THE IT PRODUCT OF THE WEEK - FOR YOUR EYES ONLY
Gigi here!
Don't mess with this Drugstore Deals Reviewer! I will climb Mt. Everest or swim the English Channel to find cutting-edge deals to keep you lovely. Though generally non-combative, I have been known to wrestle another shopper to the floor to obtain the last remaining item in a display if I plan to review it. My mind is a living Rolodex for the latest and best in beauty I've seen in countless magazines and in other media. For what? For the elite, the proud, the stunning readers who were wise enough to join this utopian site. "Magnificent Meg Heads" rule here! They rule everywhere!
But I didn't need to scour the planet or my barren building pretending to function as a drugstore this time. I had a serendipitous moment in the The Medicine Shoppe (yes, we do have one other drugstore but the concentration here is on pharmaceuticals and over-the-counter medications). I had a sore throat and needed antibiotics and picked them up here. This entire staff works hard, very hard to fill prescriptions so quickly that I swear they're clairvoyant. They seem to know what you need before you tell them! Scary.
This time I lingered even though they were Energizer Bunnies as usual and filled in it two minutes. I sat and found two revolving displays of beauty accessories--care for feet, tweezers, manicure supplies, all the tools to make staying gorgeous possible. The displays resembled Christmas trees as they turned, revealing all of the tempting products dangling and showing off their gleaming wares, some in colors like cobalt, red, emerald green, and gold. That meant I had to purchase something. And then I saw "IT."
What is "IT?" Denco Ultra's Dream Eyes Eyelash Curler for around $6.50 (used by professional makeup artists). This ingenious eyelash curler has become my newest friend. It is a multi-tasker. I dance and chant at the feel of this all-plastic, ergonomically shaped, fully washable crimper. It is more comfortable and offers less "ouch" than metal; it is not as apt to pull out delicate lashes (I have a scant supply and plan to keep them). Now comes the fun part: Slide open the bar in the front and an eyelash comb and brush will emerge. No more excuses and no more mascara lumps, flakes, or unruly Andy Rooney brows. This is grooming at home and to go at its best! (For brows, a bit of moistened soap on the brush will hold them in place so that you are not confused with him by your friends in case you have no eyebrow wax.)
The appearance makes it more than a beauty implement. It's a power tool, reminiscent of action flicks. It's sleek, chic, and oh-so-maverick! Walking down the street and fear a shady-looking character? Whip out the curler and say, "My Name is Bond, Jane Bond." Any bad guys will retreat in haste.
Thus I "Googled" where to purchase it if you don't have a Medicine Shoppe near you. For online shopping, visit www.peninsulabeauty.com to purchase it. The price? $3.99. Yes, you read that correctly. A beauty steal for less than $5.00 makes my heart beat wildly.
Gigi the instructor must give her tips or Catholic guilt kicks in--big time. Great lashes sometimes take great time. Look in a mirror and gently sandwich lashes within the curler. Ensure that they have not gone awry (slanted or forgotten) and begin again if necessary. Lashes are more defined when this is applied to the base, but exert only gentle pressure. Make sure that you purchase replacement pads when you feel the benefits are not quite as effective as they had previously been. Wash the entire tool frequently to avoid contamination. Don't think of using any curler after applying mascara; you will most likely receive extra "oomph" but make quick work of pulling out these fragile hairs and they often do not grow again. James Bond's gadget inventor "Q" would be envious. I'm just humbled to be of service to you . . . and I think I'll enjoy a Martini--shaken, not stirred.

ive never really used an eyelash curler before, so i think i might check this out
I don't curl my lashes with eyecurler cause I am SCARED ! I always try and buy new eyecurlers lol cause I think the results are good and I think it's totaly IN to have that in my makeup vanity... but it's so hard lol I am been practicing and can't DO it !I saw one ate sephora's who has a heater too so I think it will be more convenient for me lol...am I going to be sacred of the heat now? <3

I've always been afraid of eye lash curlers, especially of losing my lashes. You make this out to be the most wonderful of tools, however, so I'm curious...though I think I'm too much of a scaredy cat to ever dare use even this gentle tool!
i must curl my lashes for it to curl, otherwise it's just straight... but i'm yet to find a perfect eyelash curler! (i don't know if it's just me or lash curlers are awfully hard to find in australia?!)I think it makes a biggg difference curling before mascara compared to no curling before mascara!

I often curl my lashes, and just use a curler my friend got my from her Avon rep. I never thought an eyelash curler could be turned into a multi purpose tool! I admit to being too lazy to comb my lashes but if it were right there in the same tool maybe I would actually put the effort in! I'm glad there is a good eyelash curler that doesn't break the bank, I will have to keep my eyes peeled for this one!
I can't say that I really need a new eyelash curler, as mine is fine, but this review made me want one and want one NOW! It sounds fantastic.Alas, Peninsula Beauty do not ship internationally :(Oh well, can't be too sad as mine isn't bad!
Gigi, what a great find! I've been reading all the spotlights and seeing just how much all the Meg Heads loved curlers. I have never used one but thought I should give it a try. There were so many choices at the store that I didn't know where to start. So I left without a curler that day. Now I know where to go and what to get! What a great price as well. I really love the idea of being able to wash it and having a brush in the handle. No more excuses to being lazy. Thanks Gigi for another great review and another must have to get.
They look interesting. :) i have just bought a pair of ELF ones today with their free shipping offer (EU and UK). my other ones are on their way out. Do you think these are better than the cult Shu Uemura ones?
Gigi, what a find! I can't wait to try it, especially since I now have an added incentive to be SuperLashGal. While waiting for my ace haircutter Ashley (also known as NYC's uncrowned Queen of Extensions) to finish up curling her in-chair client's luxuriant mass of Great Lengths chestnut curls, this Brazilian beauty -- a Victoria's Secret model -- turned to me and said, urgently, "WHAT do you do to make your eyelashes so full?" Well, once the staff picked me up off the floor I of course told her my secret: Givenchy Phenom'Eyes, dusted with a coating of Divaderme Lash Extender. Since using this combo, occasionally alternating with Urban Decay's primer, I seldom need to curl, but this little wonder may make me a believer once more. I'm going to try it for those "out the door" wanding days to get that little extra ooomph.
The famous Shu Uemura curler just doesn't curl all of my lashes (maybe my eyes are bigger than average? I don't know--and it pinches!) but I digress.. I shall put a little faith in your find and try the Denco Ultra's Dream Eyes Eyelash Curler. Thanks for the tip!

I don't curl my lashes, maybe I should start though. :)

Sounds like a winner! My lashes are ridiculously long and I can't fit them all into a damn curler so I often end up with weird crimps,LOL!Will stalk this item and love that you spotted it! :)
I curl my lashes sometimes .. not everyday because i simply forgot i have an eyecurler in my vanity ...
I love a new eyelash curler! It is like the heavens shine down when you use it for the first time and its not all gunkified... at least for me :) This sounds like it would definitely do eyelashing curling magic and more. Quick tip: Heat up the curler first with a few second blast from your hair dryer, curl 10 seconds, apply mascara, and curl with a warm curler again holding until it feels cooler. Its magic. I also try to curl in more than just one place, close to the lid, mid way on the lash and then the ends, it gives a more natural look I think
Style may be on the surface, but you can be deep and still have some - Clarissa Gough
I use an eyelash curler everyday I have too, the one I have at the moment keeps ripping my lashes out at the corner every now and then so I think I need a new one !!!!
Well gigi youve done it again-love that theres a comb included as my comb of the moment is a scary metal one that could maim one if one be combing lashes while tipsy or something(should the situation arise) .Go gadget go.

I love my curler, but it's metal, and I'm always twisting it in weird positions to get all the lashes. My husband is scared of it, and won't let my son come in the bathroom 'when Mommy's using that torture device'.It's old so I've been thinking of getting a new one. Maybe this one will be less scary around my house? And cheap!
Sounds like a great find, though I don't curl my eyelashes anymore because I found the only thing it did to my lashes was making them either break or fall out. That was 5-6 years ago. I'm just fine with the way my eyelashes are right now, but out of curiosity this would be something to check into!
Make up your beauty-full mind...

You ladies have me laughing--it's just a little curler and it won't be brutal to use when used slowly. Megsplace, the heavens open and there is no gunk--I know the feeling! Thanks much for adding the fact that warming a curler makes it far more effective. I don't know if I like this better than Shu Uemura's, but it produces results. Just for your gorgeous, amazing, witty dahlings, here's how much a crimper helps: If I have misplaced one of mine, I warm a spoon with a blow dryer and use the curved metal to make my nine eyelashes lush!
Gigi, thanks for sharing your find!! I used to have a curler just like this (with the brush/comb part too, which I didn't discover till months later)! Chucked it out recently cos I had it for far too long (possibly 10 yrs!).. I'm Asian and have thin, short, straight, downward-pointing eye lashes. What works for me best now is an old Shiseido curler bought many years ago + a mascara that's light and stiff enough to hold the curl. I got a replacement (also Shiseido) recently but it doesn't curl as well (why??!). I then use a metal teeth eyelash comb to comb out the lumps. Things that I do to make my eyes look bigger....
I *HAVE* to curl my lashes. If I don't, they inevitably end up sticking straight down into my eyes, and then I have that "GAH! There's something in my eye!!" feeling all day. That sounds like a nifty little gadget!
OMG I want!! I have never liked eyelash curlers because they pinch - this sounds perfect. I like the idea of plastic instead of metal. Too bad shipping costs twice as much as the product. I'm going to look for this locally...
I must try this!! My Revlon metal curler sucks even though its apparently supposed to be really good...eh I have devil lashes and they refuse to hold a curl regardless of what mascara I use!!
I used to take the time for a curler but felt I was really damaging my lashes so I just stick to mascara. I've been tempted by the HG Shu Uemera curler that is all the rage but they don't sell refills and you are forced to repurchase a NEW ONE after the ONE replacement pad that comes with it is done. HELLO LANDFILL! I love SU but that is ridiculous! For me a really good mascara makes it work but this inexpensive and refillable option sounds great!
Love, hugs and shoes...Angie
I never knew that about the SU curlers--OMG!
I really like my metal eyelash curler. I picked up the Shishedo one from TJMaxx for $12 and found it way superior to my Revlon one. It doesn't pinch me and it curls my lashes without having to squeeze it really tight.
Gigi, another stellar review! I use my Shu Uemura eyelash curler every single day. But thanks to your review, I'm going to buy this Denco toy to be my travel curler. I like to keep a separate travel makeup case all packed and ready to go. It's great for quick getaways. It also helps me to NOT forget critical elements (such as an eyelash curler). Ladies - I cannot believe how many of you don't use one. Go get one right this minute!! I've been curling my lashes since back before my Momma allowed me to use mascara. Seriously, it makes a huge difference!
Carole
I have an eyelash curler that I only sometimes use - I really can't tell the difference! I use it at the base, and then again at the tips. Maybe I should shoot my hairdryer over it before I use it to make it more effective, I don't know.
I use eyelash curler almost everyday. It makes such a difference on my short eyelashes. But Iam looking for a new eyelash curler. The one I have now makes my eyelashes break or fall out:(
I have a heated eyelash curler which is like a mascara wand (so def no ripping out for me!) but its such a pain when i run out of batteries for it! i think i need to get a good non battery powered one for times like these (no curler to use at the mo =( and i always forget batteries!!!!!!)this sounds good I am going to buy it!!! thanks!
This sounds so darn interesting......But i don't think i could love it any more than my old faithful Shu Uemura curler. I will be checking on this and if any of you get this curler can you def/please send me a personal message ;0thanks girls
As Cat Hickland once said, there is no part of my body I would put in a vice and that goes for my lashes too.I have nice lashes that curl when I use a curling mascara so I have never tried an eye ash curler. This sounds a lot more gentle on the lashes than most. Too bad there is no picture of this futuristic sounding implement!
Beste Hilsin
This sounds awesome!! I am always losing the comb that I buy (they are just so darn small!) and I love my eyelash curler! I have never used a plastic curler, but I will be searching for this to give it a try!
wow, what a bargin Gigi, great article. My lashes are quite long, and I don't bother curling them, I find my mascara does enought for everyday wear. But I should really start curling them more for weekends/special events.
ive never curled my lashes. i wonder if i should. that's a good price for something i just want to try out
How is it that I have NEVER tried an eyelash curler??? I think after reading this I may need to go out and get one!
I am not a fan of curlers, as my natural lashes tend to be more than any curler has achieved. I find that when I use curlers, a lot of the times, it straightens my lashes out a bit. But for the moist soap trick with eyebrows - I like to spray hairspray on my index finger and run it over my eyebrow. Then quickly, brush your eyebrow into the shape you want and it'll stick for the day. That or clear mascara.

I didn't know that the Medicine Shoppe had cosmetic related products. I'm always in there for pick up my grandmas prescriptions and I've NEVER noticed. Weird. This sounds like a pretty nice eyelash curler, expect I an honestly say I don't use one. I'm obsessed with Lumene's Blueberry curl mascara, which curls my lashes well enough that I don't need a curler :)
Gigi, I love you so much. This review was HILARIOUS! I'm a klutz and better left AWAY (far, far away) from eyelash curlers. Learned that one the hard way.
Gigi, I love your reviews...not only do you explain everything you need to know about the product, but I always have a perma-smile while reading!I have tried Shu Umera, Mac, Shesido, Revlon. My theory to why they stop working is that the metal frame is bent on a daily basis, theres only so much pressure it can take. I have read that the heated Panasonic one is also amazing. I'm going to try this one first, as it's cheaper, and sounds good. Artcandy

I really love the lashes in the model pic! *so* gorgeous :D. I <3 eyelash curlers, but am guilty of curling my lashes after mascara application :(.
I use my eyelash curler every day. This one sounds awsome. I love the fact that it has the brush built right in so I wouldn't have to search for mine.
I do like plastic eyelash curlers best. They are more gentle and work better than metal ones. I think the one I used to use was from Maybelline and was a cheap drugstore find that worked well. I did think that it "opened up" my eyes and looked good. After a while though I just got lazy and wanted to simplify my routine. Maybe I will try using one again just for special occasions or date night. I'll check out this Denco one. Any excuse to glam it up and wear dramatic makeup! :)
Gigi, you've read my mind! I have been thinking of buying a curler for a few weeks now and have been scouring the internets for a cost-effective and quality item to buy. Now it looks like you've done my running around for me!Unfortunately the store you linked to doesn't deliver to little old Australia.. but I might just keep an eye out for one that does. Thanks again, your articles are great!
That model looks beautiful. I have not used eyelash curler before. Did u guys hear about the new medicine u take( well actually u put it on ur eyelashes like a mascara) that actually grows ur eyelash! Sounds cool!
This sounds like it may give Shu Uemera a run for it's money. Having the comb and brush attached sounds like the best idea I have heard for a long time.

Alas, eyelash curlers seem to be ineffective. It's not the curler's fault. My face and eye shape and lash length is the issue. No matter how much I contort, the darn thing cannot make it on to the pad for curling. Thank goodness for mascara!
I currently use the ELF lash curler, for only a $1, it's amazing! However, I have noticed it pulling out more lashes then it should, maybe I will try this plastic device. For only $4 it's definitely worth a shot!!
I use an eyelash curler every day that I wear makeup. I have stick straight Asian eyelashes, and if I don't curl them, they won't show up, even with mascara. This eyelash curler sounds very promising!
