MY FIRST MAKEUP

Kate2004rock here! My first makeup was a Tinkerbell set with a translucent powder a gawdy-pink lipstick and some rose-oil perfume. I got it with some dress up clothes sometime around the age of four. A few years later I got a new makeup palette with all kinds of "fun" colors of eyeshadow (teal, orange, hot pink) and those little lipsticks that stack like legos. My mom just HATED when I wore the stuff out of the house...to school, on airpline trips, wherever. She told me I "wasn't" old enough. At age 9, I began buying Wet 'n' Wild nail polishes (which, at the time, were only 99 cents) at the grocery store when my mother was back in dairy checking dates on gallons of milk. I wore green and blue (school colors!) on alternating fingers for about tree years! Eventually she even bought me some powder (for covering breakouts) and a lip pencil at a friend's Mary Kay party that I got roped into attending. The older girls at school always had their free-gift clinique bags out at lunch or between classes to reapply. And I so just wanted to be like them.
For my 13th birthday, I finally became a woman. When I opened my presents from mom and dad, I got a tube of Maybellilne Great Lash mascara and an appointment card to the Clinique counter that evening! I got my first makeover and and was "outfitted" with all the products I'd need! Though, my mom thought I would eventually get tired of wearing makeup (joke's on HER, now!), the lessons I learned in that experience were so important! Someone really took the time to show me how to wear makeup and how to wear it right! I really hope that every young girl in the future gets the same kind of treatment! I encourage all of you to do the same for your daughters, neices, or little sisters.
I'll leave you with some suggestions for the best products for "young" learners to start out their makeup wearing careers with!
1) Stila Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer -$32 is a reasonable price for complexion products. It has some shimmer which young girls (and 23 year old MBA students) love. It has SPF 15, because we need to drill it into their heads NOW!
2) Tarte Bronzer in Park Ave. Princess - As I'm sure most of you know Tarte's packaging is beyond cute and its supposed to be fun. And Tarte products pack some punch. Most teenagers feel obliged to wear bronzer every day and the Park Ave. Princess is perfect because it will show a makeup newbie that bronzer is supposed to be brown/bronze and not orange. It's a pretty glow in that fabulous faux-croc case.
3) Clinique 3-Step Skincare - Easily one of the most foolproof ways to teach your girl the steps of skincare and why and what each stage does to beautify your skin. Plus, clinique's different lines are easily swapped and blended (perhaps if she needs acne-care or redness treatments). Plus they're at lower price points than the heavty-duty stuff that us less-young girls have to use.
4) Urban Decay Big Fatty Mascara - I recently discovered an unused forgotten tube of this in my own stash and It just does wonders. You get tons of volume and great separation and $20 is something she can afford with her babysitting cash. Downside: slipperly slope into getting addicted to the primer potion.
5) Duwop's Lip Venom - $16. This silky clear-pink gloss (shimmer available!) is a great natural look for younger girls but they get some plumping action to really get a good pout going. Plus its handy and pocket sized!

I can't really remember my FIRST big makeup splurge but i know that in the past 6 months i have spent more on makeup than i have in my entire life (thanks to an addiction everyday minerals!!)! :)
I have to agree.. I've gotten way too much makeup this entire year than I really can use! But I absolutely love everything that I have!

Hah! I totally had the Tinkerbell makeup set, too. And I also, at the age of 13 got a Clinique makeup application appointment as a Birthday gift from my aunt!! It was cool hearing about your makeup memories, growing up!

Thanks so much for the trip down memory lane. My aunt bought me a makeup palette when I was about 10 years old, and I have been addicted ever since!
i think my first make up products were those cheap make up sets that come out around christmas. The colours were so transparent and muddy i used to look like a clown packing it on with those flimsy sponges that came with it. Every year my aunt buys my cousin those sets. I keep on telling her her money would be better off getting one "expensive" product than those sets but shes stuck in her ways.
oh dear, I really can't remember but as I "took" some of my mom's makeup while she wasn't looking *lol* my first purchase wasn't makeup, but a sophisticated body wash by Calvin Klein, I believe. I remember feeling so unbelievably irrestistable when stepping out of the shower, that I almost slipped;-).

My parents didnt let me wear makeup or shave my legs for a LONG time... I think 13!!!But I remember having this little tinted lipgloss that I got at a friends birthday. It was like a lisa frank lipgloss and I coveted it... I even smuggled it to school and REALLY REALLY glopped it on... Lol I made the mistake of putting it on before a school picture... and my mom FREAKED because... well it really looked bad!!LolBut finally I grew up and now I enjoy the finer things in life!My sister just turned 13.... Im pretty sure shes in the same boat as me. Lol I feel bad but shell figure it out im sure.I took her to the store to buy acne and skin care products last time I was out visiting... but no makeup or anything.I want to start her out on clear mascara because I dont want her to make the same mistake as me and end up with horrible dark circles under her eyes from improper makeup removal! lol

Oh yes, and I received some Chanel freebies from my aunt on a monthly basis when I was around 10-14, because a Chanel salesperson lived in the same apartment complex and my aunt was watching her cat every now and again when she was on business trips. That was just awesome!!

When I was a kid my best friend had an older sister that had moved out and left all her old makeup behind. I shudder to think of how far expired it was but we sure did have a good time with it.
I had horrible cystic acne for most of my life, but I wasn't allowed to wear makeup. So I sneaked it!! But it looked just awful since I didn't know about color-matching or application, and I gave up.Then I got a j-o-b and splurged on Prescriptives! I am so sad they are closing, even though I haven't worn their stuff for years and I feel like the product isn't the same quality. Now, like Rapunzel says, I'm addicted to Everyday Minerals and have spent hundreds of dollars on it in the last 6-12 months. Which is really ridiculous because their stuff lasts FOREVER, no way will I ever be able to use it up!
I loved reading this post, it was a walk down memory lane.I was in 6th grade. My first experiences with make-up were not too good...I stumbled and faltered with every step. It's an awkward age. I can remember buying this baby blue creme eyeshadow, I loved the color but it looked awful on me! I applied it to my entire eyelid...clear up to my eyebrows. I looked like a clown. It makes me laugh now. I was more of a tomboy and after that eyeshadow episode I said the heck with it! When 16 rolled around I was a different girl and with the help of magazines and a few good friends and many mishaps the whole make-up thing finally "clicked". I think I held on to the baby blue eyeshadow until I was about 20....I'm serious!! LOL finally I ended up chucking that thing. To this day I shudder when I think of baby blue eyeshadow on me.
my mom thought I would eventually get tired of wearing makeup (joke's on HER, now!)That's just too funny, Kate2004rock. :P My grandma and mom and aunt got me into makeup by giving me little items from their gift with purchase sets, and I think they sometimes regret it! (Although they do appreciate my makeup knowledge). When I was really young, I know I had some of those Tinkerbell makeup things but I just can't remember what. The first sorts of things that I bought were Lip Smackers (oh yeah, sparkle and scent!), especially the Vanilla Frosting lipgloss. I might have had some pressed powder in middle school, but I really didn't start wearing makeup until high school! I wore some brown or black eyeliner, some drugstore mascara, and I slathered some Cover Girl stick concealer all over my face to cover the acne :( And I used lip liner (Wet n Wild) or my Jane beige colored lipstick. Oh dear. And I didn't really get into makeup until I was in college! My grandma took me to a Clinique counter as a Christmas present. It was wonderful :) Probably one of the best presents ever!

That is great things to think about. Wish my mother had! I think I was 12 when my mother decided to give me make-up for my birthday. A blush, a dark blue mascara and blue eye shadow. I did not really take to wearing it, even if the other girls had started at that time and so she never bothered with trying again. It took me 10 years before my interest awoke. And now? I think I've more than made up for not taking an interest, my collection growing everyday! So late as of today, I bought a Mac concealer even if I already have one that works from Bodyshop, just because I had to try it. :S
I have loved make-up for as long as I can remember. My nose always sweats first when I am hot, and I grew up in Phoenix so during most of the school year my nose would sweat on the bus to school (where regardless of air conditioning vent location, it was coolest to sit near the back). In 4th grade my mother gave me a sample powder compact from a Clinique gift with purchase and I thought getting to "powder my nose" was the coolest thing ever. A little later my Nanny's sister (who worked for Revlon) gave me a large shopping bag filled with Revlon freebies, and I declared myself "A Make-Up Millionaire." My mom loves to tell that story. I have very sensitive skin and seeing the road I was headed on make-up wise, in the beginning of middle school, my mother took me to the Clinique counter for a consultation and to choose the right color of the only foundation my Dermatologist said I could use. It was so awful; it was astringent like and separated into clear and color and had to be mixed every use. I still loved it. By 8th grade, my best friend had started calling me "Clinique" as a nickname. And the rest, as they say, is history.

I think my first *splurge* was buying MAC concealer. But before that my friend and I would ride our bikes to the "park" but go to our closest Shopper's Drug Mart and buy $30 + on makeup and what not and go up to our rooms and play with our goodies!! I remember my first purchase had to include a Covergirl foundation compact (I think it had noxema in it for zits??) and CG mascara and a bunch of random nailpolishes and some really ugly colored of Wet and Wild lipstick!!! I really had no clue but it was a start. Oh and Bonne Bell lipgloss!! I remember buying that like crazy when I was young!
Lol my first makeup set was...a Plastic one lol in the toys department but I was sure it was working... When I was puttin the hard plastick lipstick on my mom's lips I could see it works and I loved it lolI don't remember what was my FIRST real makeup though cause I feel like I grew up with makeup stealing it from my mommy...and starting my own little collection from hers lol....

I still remember taking my cousin to the Clinique counter for her first "grown-up" makeup, when she was 13. We got her the 3 step skincare, mascara, an eyeshadow trio, and blush! Her mom sold Avon, and this was back in the day when Avon was boring and kind of "mature", so having been allowed nothing but Avon up until that point, she was thrilled.
I know that I got this really plasticky makeup kit from my uncle when I was 8 or so. I moved onto using my mom's rejected items from GWPs from Estee Lauder and Clinique when I was about 12. She only uses foundation, blush, lipstick, and some eyeliner so I had to figure out on my own how to use mascara, powder, everything on my own in seventh grade. I remember looking clownish if I would try to use blush and thinking that maybelline and covergirl were the best because of the ads on tv. Walmart makeup was (and is) heaven! But then I discovered youtube makeup videos and beauty blogs. Now I'm addicted and my mom loathes it! I must add that you girls are very lucky because my mom never ever voluntarily gave or gives me any makeup.
Kate! I absolutely loved this review and storyline of your 1st makeup! Man - totally enjoyed this and was captivated and excited for you at the same time! "My mom just HATED when I wore the stuff out of the house...to school, on airpline trips, wherever. She told me I "wasn't" old enough." LOL~ I bet she DID absolutely HATE it! That's what struck me so funny but I bet you were cuter than ever in those moments! I could almost picture your mom's disapproving face as I read this. Wow - remembering first makeup moments. I hate to say it but I don't remember makeup from very young, maybe pretending to put lipstick on an old Barbie??? but the real deal...??? Sadly, the most vivid makeup moment I remember happened when I was a little girl, going to be in a dance recital, and since I didn't really have a 'real' mom, my dad took me to my recital. I had gotten a lipstick somewhere and since I was just a little kid and knew enough to know I didn't have a clue how to apply it correctly, and of course my dad couldn't do it. So, I went up to another little girl in my dance class who's mom had just EXPERTLY put some red lipstick on her. I asked the mom, "Could you please put my lipstick on me like you did on your daughter?" And the nice lady proceeded to draw my lipstick WAY over and outside my natural lip line. It LOOKED like I did it myself without a mirror!!!! So, a person would wonder why I'd even ever want to wear lipstick again in this lifetime!!! And how do I buy any kind of makeup without going into complete trauma!??? And THIS is probably WHY I don't remember any of my years of discovering the reasons women LOVE their makeup!
Jeanasina!
I can't really remember what my first makeup was. I know it was bad quality and from a bad brand though! I didn't wear makeup when I was little, I wasn't a girly girl at all. I am morphing into one now at the age of 20! I didn't have much makeup or wear much makeup before I was 16. I really started to buy makeup when I was 17 and went to a formal. I went to a MAC counter to get my makeup done, and bought their foundation and a lipgloss. From there it has snowballed into a range of other brands as well and when I found Everday Minerals, I became addicted.
I think the first piece of makeup I ever bought was a Cover Girl pressed powder to control the shine. I got a shade that made me look super orang at first, luckily the store let me exchange it. My grandma used to always give me her Clinique GWP stuff, too, which I loved. I think I got into Sephora and higher end stuff when I was around 16 after my camp friend from California showed me the ropes.
Katie, I loved reading about your early makeup memories! Well, my memories go back waaaaay further. First of all, I went to Catholic school, and we weren't allowed to wear makeup "except for a light shade of lipstick." Oh please! I needed so much more than that! Anyway, suspicion of makeup caused a trip to the girls room with Sister to wash away the sinful traces. When Mom finally broke down and let me wear makeup, she took me to the Charles of the Ritz counter at the John Wanamaker dept. store in Philadelphia. I know most of you probably haven't ever heard of Charles OR John, but bear with me. They mixed up powder that was just for you! It was so cool. They took all these different colored powders and mixed up your individual perfect match. I was so excited. I loved it until I realized that it was an "old ladies" brand... and then I got into Bonne Bell and all that stuff.Anyway, I have loved makeup since forever. I feel like it helps me look like I feel. And I feel like a babe!

i dont think ive ever really splurged or hauled make up. i get whatever i think i need and have heard rave reviews of. anyway, wow at ur 13th bday! my mother didnt want me ever wearing make up. i didnt really start until college.
I loved your story! My mom HATES makeup and only wears foundation, she's always done that. So as a little girl I loved makeup but it was as foreign to me as unicorns. I was lost in the makeup world for years (and I still don't really know what I'm doing!) She wears Clinique foundation and in junior high I started stealing the makeup out of her bonus bags (she never used it anyway!) and living off that until she finally gave in for high school and bought me a few pieces of my own. I think the first thing I ever actually bought myself was probably some sort of glitter eyeshadow, I was a big believer in glitter.
I am applauding the topic for a piece and the suggested makeup you highlight! Great piece! I'm going to get emotional over this and so I'll try to cut to the chase. After consuming a gross of candy lipsticks in two weeks at the age of five, my parents knew they had given birth to a makeup addict. Some of my sweetest memories (no pun intended)? Revlon nail polish in my Christmas stocking at around age 10. My mother taking me downtown and purchasing Revlon eyeshadows in gentle pink and blue at a department store. My mom coming home from work and bringing me Yardley of London blush and Astral Wine lipgloss (no gloss smells as good as that did). My sister and I were radiant when Love cosmetics carried foundation and color and we received it, and then my sister started her first job. She came home the day she was paid and had stopped to buy me a palette (see--that's where the palette addiction comes in) of lip glosses I love. As a senior in high school, I had a particularly magnificent Christmas and my dad and mom kept surprising us with one gift after another. My dad finally pulled out Bonne Bell and Neutrogena soap and said, "I'm done fighting. What you want, you get." And somehow that made me never want to take advantage of them because they were so kind. Darn! Who cries over a makeup piece? I do!
My first makeup was nothing as fancy as yours, lol. I just got a black pencil eyeliner from a drugstore.
I stiil have a lot to learn! So.. yeah thanks for the advices!
Wow this is such a great post. Makes me reminisce. Makeup was always the elusive cool thing (shaving my legs was also included in this catefory) I always wanted and Mom kept saying no, which in my adolescence seemed like an eternity but only unitl I was 15, and my mom being her strong self was not someone to be double crossed (basically she said no and I valued my life). My mom has always ingrained in me the importance of hygiene and taking care of your appearance, mostly so I don't regret it later on but also she just didn't think I was old enough. And when I was 15 and she felt like it was time she took me to Estee Lauder counter, one of her favorite makeup brands, and had them really teach me the basics (which I pretty much knew from sneaking through her makeup bag when she wasn't looking) because she didn't want me to be that trashy teenager that wore to much for her age and didn't know how to apply. I'm really grateful for that, and she has passed down to me the importance of quality of product and classy makeup vs. trashy. I think one of the most important things I will want my daughter to know is to take care of your body/canvas, you can't camoflauge every flaw you could have avoided if you had taken care of yourself, and also something similar to what my mom did for me, taking my daughter to a makeup counter and learn from the professionals rather than her teenage friends who are also blindly learning. Most of the commercial makeup companies out there now have a tween/teen section; Arbonne, Avon and Mary Kay have them for sure and they're perfect. Such a great post Kate!
Style may be on the surface, but you can be deep and still have some - Clarissa Gough
My very first make up, if it even count as a make up item was Bonne Bell vanilla lip smackers! I only got it because I saw my best friend's collection of lip smackers, we were in 4th grade. From then till 10th grade i didn't wear or buy any make up until the end of 10th grade for my formal.i took my friend with me because i knew nothng about make up, and i ended up getting an Australis make up set and a maybelline XXL mascara. Those were probably my first ever "proper" make up i've ever bought. neither of my parents like maked up... so i was never really into make up eitherRight after my formal, i wiped everything off my face and went without make up till i was half way into my first year of university. now i can't go without make up! :)
Lily =o)http://lazyscorner.blogspot.com/
my first make up was eye liner
I think my first real makeup (besides the occasional drugstore blush and lip gloss) was some Mary Kay that my mom got me. I think there was a liquid foundation, blush, eye shadow, mascara and lip liner. And their cream cleanser to take it all off. The colors weren't very young if you know what I mean. They were kinda mature-ish. Think "dusky rose" and "Chianti." Not exactly teen material. But I liked them all the same. I phased out of those though in search of brighter, more youthful colors. I ran for Covergirl. I used to spend hours poring over the site's color match thing. I remember I had cheekers blush, a couple eyeshadow trios, and wetslicks in Firefly (I went in search of it after I saw it on Anne Hathaway and loved how it looked fab on her and it did on me too) and L'Oreal Lash Architect mascara. I was also supplemented by my Grandmother's Clinique GWPs.Even so, I only really used makeup on special occasions. I don't think I wore full foundation daily until I was in 10th grade. I discovered Bare Minerals and my life was never the same. Then in 2007 I discovered Meg's here and then makeup became a bit of an addiction. Now I don't know how I ever went without.
I remember when I was a young'n my mom and aunts would give me their free gift bags and I would put my most "grown up" things in them. d: My first makeup product was an eyeliner when I was in middle school. It was the only cosmetic item I had until mid high school when I discovered mascara and eye shadows. It took a while longer before I experimented with mineral makeup and started to use blush and foundation. Now... I have a drawer full of stuff. (:
I used to dance was I was very small, so I wore a full face of makeup then. But when I stopped dancing at about age 11 I went off the makeup. From then on my main purchases were mascara, eyeshadow and a tinted moisturiser. It wasn't until I discovered EDM a few years ago that I really got into makeup again, when I learnt that it didn't have to be overpowering and full on, but could be natural and easy to wear
Haha, my first makeup was plastic and from the grocery store toy aisle. Makeup in high school didn't start until junior year and consisted of tinted clearasil and a covergirl pressed powder. Frankly I had no clue when it came to makeup. It's only been in the last couple years, really year, that the focus has really magnified. My purchases are always small because it's painful to see a huge total on the register. The last two "big" purchases I made were $15 each a month apart and came after much internal struggling! :D I don't regret either one as amazing products have resulted but it certainly is hard to commit when every penny counts. I'm a bang for the buck girl, each $15 resulted in big dividends.
I can't remember what I bought first, even though it wasn't that long ago. The first time I wore it though, was in 3rd grade when a friends sister did our makeup for a party. We looked so trashy, but I loved it anyway!Being taken to the Clinique counter sounds like heaven. My mom never wears makeup, so she just let me wear whatever I felt like no matter how horrible it looked. None of my friends are that addicted either, they barely wear mascara, so finding beauty blogs and youtubers saved me from still having an orange face with creased eyeshadow. Now, I've fallen in love with colorful makeup like neon yellow eyeshadow or bright pink lips, but people are so used to it they rarely comment anymore, even though I bet it looks ridiculous (and i love the ridiculousness!).
Wow, I can't even remember my first makeup product! I remember my aunt giving my this glitter gel or something, that you could put on eye or cheeks. I know I would take my Mom's makeup a lot. I think early on I had a few Cover Girl single shadows, or other drugstore brands. My first makeup gift was from my Mom and it was Urban Decay Midnight Cowboy and a liquid liner that I think was called Shattered.I like the idea of taking a 13 year old to have a makeover and learn about makeup. My Mom really only wears foundation, blush, and lipstick (unless I do her eyes) so I learned how to do eyeshadow from magazines and makeover shows on TV.
My first makeup splurge was estee lauder. I remember buying it for my mom as a kid and when i got to be a certain age my mom decided that i could get some products......I still love some of the estee lauder line.My first adult splurge was probably a smashbox set on QVC a couple of years ago....and once i found smashbox--I fell in love with the line.
My story is similar to yours, Kate! When I was just about to start 6th grade, I asked my Mom if I could start wearing makeup. She agreed, and took me to a department store with a Clinique counter. The MA there did my makeup, all the while showing me how to apply it, and my Mom bought me all the products she used. I think that is absolutely the best way to go about showing young girls how to wear makeup.
:) What a wonderful memory-jogger and fun review! My Mom was and still is "naturally gorgeous" and there wasn't a lot of makeup in the house.I went to Catholic schools (no makeup rules strongly enforced,LOL!) and the first cosmetic I personally purchased was a .25 cent red-box of Maybelline cake mascara on my way home from school...oh the wonder of it,you spat into the little plastic resovoir and then used the mini-toothbrush to scrape the waxy-black cake...voila! You had thick, spikey lashes and no one was the wiser,LOLROF! Could also easily be hidden. :)I moved onto Bonnie Bell lipglosses and Max Factor "Panstick" foundation after that and honestly, the rest is history...My grandaughter who will be 12 also loves makeup and I'm SO glad she can have "Hello Kitty" for Mac lipglosses and nicer stuff now. :) I think it's important to "allow" a bit at a certain age and to make it as nice as possible for a girl starting out. :)
i don't exactly remember what my first makeup was but i'm going to say that it was a clear mascara or a bonne belle lip gloss. those were the days! i remember being a little kid and going to the bonne belle or lip smackers section and being so fascinated by all the bright colors and flavors. the choices were endless.i think my first makeup splurge was my MAC eyeshadow in Parfait Amour. i was about 11 years old. i went in there with my aunt and i saw the prettiest purple shade. going into MAC that young was really amazing. all those makeup products and all the colors!!! i became an eyeshadow addict after that day :)

I was in middle school when I started wearking makeup ...very simple lipstick ,covergirl face powder, and mascara.....it wasn't until high school that my mom would start to buy me clinique....alll though i have to admit i was clueless on how i was using it.
Thank you for this! I'm 16 and I'm just starting out with makeup. I just recently started wearing makeup to school; just a little bit of mascara and some lip balm, and that's it. At home, I love experimenting with shadows, and I love Wet n Wild palettes because they're pigmented an cheap!
I didn't even wear makeup till I was 16yrs and still don't really wear much now... But am trying though :).
my first make-up was mascara.... the LashBlast by covergirl. It was OK... i figured all makeup made you look amazing. Now I am definatly turning into moreof an expert ;D
I don't remember what my first real makeup was, although I am sure it was one of the jumbo Bonnie Bell lip glosses or maybe the clear bottled gloss with the roller ball and metallic cap. I had bunches of those! I was allowed to wear makeup in 8th grade and my mom bought me a palette of assorted colored e/s. I loved it and remember playing around with different combos. I remember loving browns and purples and still do today. Mom got me Merle Norman foundation. I hated the stuff. I felt like I looked orange. The best part was putting powder over it!! I did love the smell of it Merle Norman powder and it had a big puff. I moved on to Cover Girl Foundation after that. I was never big into makeup collecting until I got out of college! I think I was enabled by Internet LOL!!!Great topic :)
~~Christy
i have bougjt varies products from Duwop. I really like the twlight lip gloss. whilie i know some feel it isn't worth it, i really do like it. minty and tinglly which is what i love about plumping glosses.
I remember getting some cheap makeup set for my 6th birthday, there are heaps of photos of me wearing some crazy clown looking makeup that day. :P When I was about 14 I started wearing Maybelline Lash Discovery mascara everyday. I also used to wear a black Revlon Colorstay Eyeliner and lipgloss most days. But I never really got into wearing eyeshadow on a regular basis until I was about 17-18. Now I'm a makeup artist, lol! So my makeup collection has grown A LOT and I'm much more into wearing a lot of makeup (although I hate the 'caked on' look). Megs Makeup, blogs and modelmayhem are really helping fuel my makeup addiction, I love it. :D
Ooo I definately had the Tinkerbell set too. Anybody remember their peel-off nail polish? :) I think my first "big" purchase (at the time) was VS lipgloss for $12 a tube.

Hmmm...I remember my mom using her OLD Mary Kay eye shadow (it was in a palette and the brush had to be wet to use it - would that be considered a cake eye shadow) on my for things like Christmas concerts for school. I also had a blue eye shadow and brown mascara from a dance recital in 3rd grade. When I was in 7th grade or so, I had a friend that owned a lot of make-up, and she gave me a bunch of eye shadows that she didn't use. The spring of my 8th grade year, my mom took me to a Merle Norman store and they did a whole face look for me. I have to agree that having someone put together an entire look for me really helped. Definitely a good idea for young girls just starting. Since then, I go through times when I really splurge on make-up and times when I don't buy anything. I'm in a major splurge phase right now with EDM and Silk Naturals. LOL I have more make-up than I could use in a lifetime, and I still want more!
oooh i cant remember :( does that mean im old... boo!but i do slightly remember some bad cheap shadows i had.. ooh and def never had a makeup brush until yonks later, just used those sponge things.
makeup makeup makeup!!!!!!!
