HOW SHOULD I WEAR MY LONG HAIR FOR A HOT NIGHT OUT MR. MARCO PELUSI !?
Meg here! We have a great question for Mr. Marco Pelusi-our hair guru, it's a good one and one I'm sure a lot you want the answer to!
Q: "I am going out for my birthday and I want my hair to look amazing. I
have long wavy hair. What is a style that looks hip, trendy, yet sexy?"
A: "You're in luck, my dear. Long wavy hair is BACK! It first of all would be nice to get a quick trim, along with adding a few longer, well-blended layers to tame and shape and help control those waves. Go to someone who knows curly wavy hair. It can be a nice solid line at the bottom, and if it's short enough (closer to the shoulder), it can lean forward. Or it could be cut into a 'V' in the back bottom.
To get the waves to look trendy, they need to be big, loose waves/curls, without frizz. First thing to do is to use a wonderfully moisturizing conditioner in the shower, and even perhaps leave a bit in the hair (preferably Marco Color Hydrate Conditioner with Collagen Color Guard). When you leave the shower, towel blot your curls thoroughly, removing excess moisture. Prior to combing, apply a leave-in conditioner (preferably Marco Color Anti-Frizz Leave-In Conditioner) to allow the curls to form a lovely S-shape, and to encourage loose big waves. Allow the hair to dry for a while. After it's dry, to add the 'sexy' part, grab a fat barrel curling iron (1 to 1 1/2 in.) and take 1/2 sections and curl them. Allow these curled sections to drop down and cascade in a natural fashion. After a bit of time, lightly finger through your curls to slightly stretch them out and loosen them. If you wish, add a gloss or spray (preferably Marco Smoothing Gloss and/or Marco Color Guard Hairspray) to enhance and 'finish' the style; which should have movement and flow, and not be stiff in any way. Let the curls relax and have fun shaking your head around to attract attention! Hope this helps! If you're ever near Robertson in L.A., let me know; I'm happy to demonstrate this technique for you at my studio!"
Vote for Marco for best L.A. Haircolor!
Who out there is growing out their tresses? Thanks as usual Marco! We hope you win the title!

I'm growing out my hair too! I just got it trimmed and re-shaped the other day, but it's almost halfway down my back and I love it. And lately, thanks to my Chagrin Valley shampoo bars, it's got such nice texture that I can literally roll out of bed it already looks good--can't beat that!Marco, I love that you give such detailed instructions and really explain people can get the look they want!
im growing out my hair. thought i wanted a short style but now i dont like it so im going back to my original length (and hopefully beyond).

I am not growing my hair out for a while I think. Have been very happy with my short hair since spring. It was not long before that, but about jawline. I always get tired of a style fast so doubt I'll ever get really long hair again. Plus long hair is so high maintenance imo.But of course I sometimes dream of having thick long wavy hair. But I think I need to get a wig for that ever to be reality.
I'm opposite - I always think that long hair is low maintenance since I can pull it into a ponytail, braid it, or pin it up. When my hair has been short, I had to blowdry it, use wax/pomade/gel, and still pin back errant parts. Of course, you have a totally cute face that short hair looks absolutely perfect on.
Yes, I can understand that too and that's what many say. I guess it depends on your hair as well. I need to have a fringe/bangs if my hair is long, since my face is so long and forehead so high. So that means even if it's long I need to style it and it takes ages to dry so have to blowdry it. And when it's short like this all I do is let it dry while I have breakfast and get dressed and do my makeup. Then I just put a tiny bit of wax in it and hairspray and then I'm ready to go. Takes like one minute max.
Love this, Marco you are amazing! :DMy hair is pretty long and I badly need a haircut.. it's been in such bad condition since I had my chemical straightening disaster but I think it's just starting to get healthy again. Yay! :D
This sounds like such a beautiful hairstyle but i just can't get my "sometimes" curls , sometimes waves to behave themselves :(I need you to come to my house everyday and do my hair...LOL
I just got a haircut a few weeks ago! Although I would like to keep my hair longer.. I don't think mine is meant to be long. I have to make sure I keep cutting the deadends, otherwise it will look bad..

My hair is pretty straight, but I always have random curls at the tips :(I'm trying to grow out my hair so that I can cut all my dyed parts when it's longer, because I just want my natural & healthy hair back.. haha
My hair is a constant source of trouble for me. It never looks chic or even good. I definitely need to find a stylist like you Marco to set my hair on a course for fabulous! Thanks for the tip though, hopefully I can pull that off

I love my long hair and ever since switching to SLS/Paraben/Cone free products, it's never been better! I have to have layers or else it would be very flat, extremely heavy and very hard to manage. Marco, thank you for giving very detailed instructions on how to obtain beautiful waves!
Isn't it crazy what a difference it makes to use natural hair products? Night and day.
!!! Awesome question!I have been growing out my curly hair for quite some time now....its slow... its probably about 3-4 inches past my shoulders now...And EVERYDAY I think about cutting it short again....But Ive resisted so far!!Marco Ive heard great stuff about your leave in!!! great tip!! :)i've been trying to find a suitable hair style for a while, since my friends always comment how i never change my hair, it's either straight and short.. or long and straight. my hair is hard to tame, i always get flyaways, it's kinda thick very hard to style, i always end up spraying tons of hairspray.i would def pay a visit to your studio when i come to LA :)

I am growing out my hair - much to my dissapointment. I have to grow it so I can put it up for a dancing concert.I much prefer short hair, as like parakeet, long hair is way too hard to deal with. If I had long hair I'd want it to be gorgeous and wavy but my stick straight, thin, flat lifeless hair looks totally crap long.
Exactly! My hair is never gorgeous when long, or if I want it to look good I need to spend lots of time and products and then it'll be flat in a couple of hours again anyway. My hair was long a couple of years ago and I guess I will at some point want to grow it out again, because that's how I am - I grow it, then cut it, then grow it... and so on and so on. It's a wonder I have kept the same haircut for about 6 months now. Usually never happens!edit: on second thought... it's not been 6 months, I think it was in May that I cut it like this. lol Well anyway...
I know, right?! I'd need to spend at least half an hour on my hair in the morning if it was long. Then by halfway through the day it'd be flat and boring again. When I have long hair its just up in a ponytail or messy bun with my fringe out.Short hair is wonderful for me - like you I dry it when I am dressing and eating breakfast and when I go to do it, it takes 2-3 min if I want it looking extra good! :)I can't wait to chop it off again. I do the grow, chop, grow, chop thing too. I am just thankful it doesn't take my hair too long to grow!
I am growing my hair, I have always loved it long, and because my hair is quite wavy it frizzes heaps when its short.
I'm growing my hair out too, but it feels like it takes forever for my hair to grow! I can't have short hair, then it just turns into a huge, frizzy mess, since it's so curly. When it's longer it's at least a tiny bit more controlled.
My hair has been super short for 5 years, and all this time I've had to straighten it daily. It's finally long enough to let my natural curls show, and I'm super excited. I am trying very hard to grow it out. In fact, I'm doing a series on products and brands for curly hair on my blog and examiner.

I just cut my hair off not too long ago. I love it shorter, but I do miss the length sometimes. I atend to grow my hair out super long, then chop it off, and start the whole process all over again! Long hair makes me look younger, which in my case is not a good thing! I've had people ask if I'm 13 (I'm 25). Not cool when I'm a working professional!
Does anyone know anything more about cutting for your face shape? Does that help at all? I have a heart shaped face and I have a hard time with my hair anyways but I'm wondering if maybe its who I'm going to or if I need to have my haircut to "fit my face." Any truth to this?

This would be an excellent question for Marco to answer next!
I'm growing out my hair as well. I made the horrible mistake of cutting it to my shoulders while I was pregnant, basically because I was tired of messing with it. Well, now I'm no longer pregnant, and I really miss my long hair!! It seems to be growing pretty fast, but I'm really impatient and I hate the in-between length so I really hope I stick with it!!
OHhhhhh Marco...how I wish you were closer to the Washington D.C.area. its been years since I've been to a salon (too many bad experiences) but I love reading your post! When I think of going to a Salon I have the same feelings and reaction people have when they go to the dentist and he says "you need a root-canal"! My blood runs cold! I feel faint! I want to run away as fast as my legs can carry me!Every time I've gone into a salon the first thing they want to do is chop off my long hair!! "Your too old to have long hair" or "Its not in style" or "short hair fits you better" good-greif...I don't want to rant...I would just love to find a nice salon that would give me a trim and a nice color job to get rid of these grey hairs. Maybe someday...until then I will read your post and dream.....
im trying to grow out my hair as well. id like to grow it to about 8 inches longer than shoulder length, so i need about 3 more inches. lately ive been wanting to get it cut into a very deep, sharp v in the back once it gets long enough. i cant wait!!
I recently cut my long hair. I had a baby and after 4 months my hair started to fall you in chunks, this was due to stress and the doctors had to do a emergency c-section and the doctors cut my main vein and over cut me and left me open for 5 hrs and i lost 2 liters of blood and so i suffered trauma. A good friend advised me to take vitamins for target for skin, hair and nails and it works, I have grown my hair back, you can see the small hair come back, know i will grow my hair.
Growing out! Not too long, not too short. It seems like hair that starts getting too long requires more monthly trims to continue looking polished and even in texture. Shoulder blade length seems like a happy medium.
I donated my hair over the summer, and now I really want to grow my hair out! I love the look of long effortless waves, and this post is making me anxious for my hair to grow. :)
I donated my hair awhile back too, Dianad! When I saw this post I felt the same way, even though I've donated my hair a few times before. I can just get *most* of it into a ponytail... I can't wait until it ALL fits in a ponytail! (someday, maybe, I'll have lovely waves again...)

Can't wait until I fit into the long/wavy hair category. My hair is naturally curly/wavy, and I'm growing it out. :)

Thanks Marco! Any advice on long wavy/ curly hair is much appreciated. I find that sometimes my hair looks great with a similar technique as above and then other times, i do the same thing, and it goes into a frizz ball.. not sure why.. but i have noticed that if i stay still, say with my hair drying on the back of my sofa while i check megsmakeup for an hour (lol) then it will stay in nice smooth curls and not frizz. Also maybe to do with the humidity here in FL.. yuck. Anyways my hair is never foolproof and what works sometimes might not work all the time annoyingly.
makeup makeup makeup!!!!!!!
Yeah! Long wavy hair is back!!! Usually when I wear my hair this way for an event I go to the salon and they dry it straight first and then curl it, I leave with big curls that I separate before going out. I always get the best compliments when I wear my hair this way, but when I try it at home, I still end up with frizz.
I got my hair cut fairly short (about shoulder length) a few months ago, and I liked it at first, but now I seem to have long-hair envy wherever I look! I'm definitely planning to grow it out, I miss having it longer.
Oh Marco, I wish I knew how to use my GHD to curl my hair.. I swear I've watched the instructional DVD three times but I still can't get it right! I'll keep trying though, I'm determined to give myself soft curls one of these days!
I have very thick, half-white/half-hispanic crazy curly hair and I've never been happy with it. When I was in high school, it almost to my bum and a hot mess of frizz and insanity. Since then, I've tried to learn to control it, mostly to no avail. The only way I've been able to beat back the frizz is to flat iron it but without the right cut, flat-ironing is pointless. I'm in an in-between cuts phase right now and can't afford the salon cut I dream of. Thanks for the tips Marco! Maybe, if I can keep from touching it, I'll be able to get those dreamy waves without the frizz!
Oh please tell me what can I do with my shoulder length layered frizzy hair.Pleeease.
I have long hair and when I want it wavy I just twist it up when it's damp and let it dry. It's much easier and gentler on your hair then using heat.
i've the hair sooo straight i must use a lot of products to have curly hair .. :(
This is great, I would love to try this, but my hair is so thick that it would take close to 3 hours to do this. It just doesn't dry on it's own very fast. I'm not joking when I tell you this...if I put it up in a clip for the day during the summer, when I take it down later in the afternoon after a day at the beach or something...it's STILL wet. I need tips like this, with a blow dry step in there somewhere or I'll never get out of the house!
I'm also growing my hair out, I cut 18+ inches off to donate, before the cut my hair hadn't had more than a trim for 6 years! Right now it's shoulder length and soon it will be long again!
I'll have to wait a long time before I can sport long waves because I'm going for a haircut soon! My ends are terribly dry so it's necessary. Come to think of it, I can do this before my haircut, one last hurrah for my long hair!
I wish I could grow out my hair but I have such fine hair it looks horrible long. So shoulder length with layers for me. I have a really cute rocker look going on right now, love it! But boy do I wish I could have long wavy hair, it is the hair of my dreams!
I am attemping to grow it out now. I doubt I will grow it more than a few inches past my shoulders. I used to have very long hair. My hair is wavy so thanks for the tips! :)
I've been growing my hair out for a while now - it seems like it's "stuck" and won't grow any longer but I'm still trying! Marco gave such lovely tips as always. I would really like to try the products he suggested and the tips on my naturally curly (frizzy) hair....I never wear it curly but Marco def knows what he's talking about! Thanks for the tips and product advice...maybe I will learn to love my curly locks! ♥
"Never take someone for granted. Hold every person close to your heart because you might wake up one day and realize that you've lost a diamond while you were too busy collecting stones..."
i'm growing out my hair! i usually have my hair a little past my shoulders. its gotten longer and i just got a new BaByliss curling iron! im excited to try this technique out.
oh how I wish my hair was wavy! I have long stick straight fine *aka flat* hair. I've been thinking about getting some hot rollers.
I'm growing my hair after having it cut really short (at least for me) last year. Ashamedly, i haven't actually had it cut since then!! *blush* My hair used to be naturally very straight but since having kids it has a wave to it...not that you can call it curly (or particularly wavy for that matter) but it isn't straight anymore. I hate in-between hair...not quite this or that!! :(
I seriously want to meet this man!Every time you post about him I run to his website and drool over every product! A sheer genius!
