GETTING TO KNOW LS820! SPOTLIGHT ON LILY SHEN!
Name: Lily Shen
Age: 20
Vocation: Field Marketing and Business Owner
What is in your purse? I don't have a whole lot in my purse because I rarely get to touch up during the day (so i have to make sure my make up is applied carefully in the morning). Very bland... coins, Avon pampering balm, Nivea soft kiss balm, Nivea strawberry balm and Palmer's cocoa butter spf balm... I have no idea why I have sooo many in there!
Guilty Pleasure: Spending money, too much money, on clothes that I either already have, or will never wear. My wardrobe is completely full of summer clothes, but I always end up buying more tops and dresses.
Skin color, type and any special skin concerns: I have pale olive skin during winter, but I get tanned easily during summer. I have pretty sensitive skin, it gets very dry during winter (but I still break out sometimes - not as much compared to high school years). And pores, I hate them!
Beauty inspiration: Corny, but I have to say my mum. She captures my idea of natural beauty, she's almost 50 but she still looks 35 and the only make up she uses is lipstick. She has silky smooth skin, always have me in awe.
Top 3 skincare products:
1. Palmer's Cocoa Butter - It hydrates my skin super well and leaves a lovely yummy cocoa scent.
2. TN Dickinson with Witch hazel - this is my cleanser and toner in one. It's my staple item, I use this to remove make up on my face or just to wipe if i feel oily.
3. SPF sunscreen, during summer - I get super lazy and just use sunscreen instead of moisturizers (it seems to be doing an OK job in hydration and giving me added protection at the same time).
Top 3 tools of the trade:
1. Blush brush - I cannot live without blush or the brush! It's such a convenient and versatile brush, for beginners and lazy girls like me, I use it for almost everything, blush, powder, foundation, contour...
2. Eyelash curler - I’ve only just discovered this recently *sigh*, without my lash curler my lashes are long and straight!
3. Eye kabuki brush - it is another versatile tool that is a time saver for me. I use this for eye shadow, eye contour/shading and buffing and highlighting.
Best beauty secret/tip: For damaged skin, pores, blemishes or breakouts use aloe vera gel, or for a better and more organic approach, snap off some aloe vera plant, wash it and apply its juice on your face. Works wonders!
Three current beauty products you'd like to buy:
1. A perfect small kabuki brush that is suitable for travel and on the go.
2. A perfect nude lipstick that suits my skin tone.
3. Odd colored hair dye that is ammonia free and would work on black hair without having me to bleach it. I like to experiment a lot!
It's really nice to get to know you Lily! Your picture is so cute and hilarious!
You seem to have a lot on your wish list but haven't settled down on any brands yet. Ladies, help Lily decide!

that is so cute that your mum is your beauty inspiration!! i love my edm eye kabuki but i cant find it!! so strange because i am very ocd especially with my make up drawers!
That is cute that your mom just uses lipstick...sometimes I wish I were less "high maintenance" in that way because I get buried in all my products somedays (but I can't live without my foundation, mascara and concealer lol). There is a super cute kabuki brush, it may be more "bulky" but it is retractable, the "Too Faced Retractable Kabuki Brush" is the one I suggest, its super soft and soo cute!
You should try the baby flattop brush brush from EDM. It's small, really small, but it gets the job done!!
I was going to suggest this too! I wish Everyday Minerals hadn't discontinued the baby kabuki, but the flat-top kabuki is good too
Yes, the baby kabuki would have been perfect but I like their small flat-top one as well.
Your pic is adorable. I think most women are guilty of spending to much money on something or another!

Hi Lily!I'm loving your picture, so cute! I agree with MrsBlacksten about most women being guilty of spending too much money on something or another. I spend way too much money on makeup.. but I'm a makeup artist, I can't help it. >_> Lol :PI know that MAC makes a lot of really nice nude lipsticks but I'm sure there's other brands out there that do just as good of a job... so I'm interested in seeing other people's suggestions.
I would recommend the Mark Kabuki Brush. I carry it in my purse a lot and it works great. Oh yea and its only $6. I also wear cheap spf lotion in the summer. I also love love love Aloe. We have plants in our yard and its great. My mom always talks about how nurses give burn vistims this special gel that is pure aloe. But I don't think its the same from a package as it is straight from the plant. That way it is free of remnants of metals from the extraction process.
Love and Lipgloss,
Kathryn

I agree, I love the mark retractable kabuki brush! I even bought an extra to give to my mom. And it's inexpensive! Very soft and dense. The Too Faced flatbuki is supersoft and only $12.50! It doesn't have a case though :( I've been dying to buy one..

hey lily. i think i found a great kabuki brush for you to check out. here's the link to the EcoTools Retractable Kabuki. It looks good because there's a cap for it so it would be great for travel.http://www.parispresents.com/EcoTools_BAMBOO_Powder_Brush_p/et1214.htm

Hi there Lily. I really like your picture. Very cute.I used to have a major shopping addiction and clothes were my weakness. I just went through my closet recently and put everything I don't wear in a box. (Maybe soon I'll actually take the box over to Goodwill or something.) Now with all the stuff moved out I am so surprised at how much I just had versus what I actually wear. My closet looks so bare. I agree with rynthayer. The mark kabuki is a great brush that you can carry in your purse. It comes with a cap so you don't make a mess in your purse. I love Aloe Vera and use it in the winter about once a week to just help my skin stay moist. Great tip, though. I will have to try it on my face. Thanks for sharing with us!
LOL, I love your picture!!!
Make up your beauty-full mind...www.myspace.com/blackdivaworld
it so sweet that your beauty inspiration is you mother, I too love to shop! every couple of months I get the "bug" and all I want todo is shop! especially when I get a new magazine, Style or Vogue and I see new looks and make-up ideas etc..It feels so good! Thanks for sharing with everyone Lily, your a beautiful young lady!!
Awesome Lily! You definitely seem like a very creative person that nearly every look works on. I've always been jealous of people who experiment often and it always works on them whether they like the end result or not. I too feel like my mom is a major beauty inspiration, not corny at all.
Style may be on the surface, but you can be deep and still have some - Clarissa Gough
lily,my mom is the same way. here's to hoping we get their genes!!

Great picture--love your sense of humor.I love Palmer's Cocoa Butter stuff too. I have the lotion and it's super moisturizing and I find the scent really comforting. We seem to have a trend of lip product junkies being featured :D
Hey, that aloe vera tip sounds interesting! What does it do, exactly, for acne? It's so hard to suggest cosmetics for others because we all have different pigmentation and the same product will always look different on another person. I'm still in search of a great nude lippie, let me know when you find one!The only hair dyes I can recommend are at natural food stores. There is a co-op near my house that sells every hair dye colour but is gentle, etc.
hi there! :)the aloe vera plant works wonders!!! especially on acne, if you feel like you're breaking out you can apply the aloe juice to prevent it (or deplete the severeity).. and for ongoing pimples it'll just ease your pimples, as well as the reddness, you'll be able to see the results within hours! (it works kinda like those anti acne treatments.. except 100% natural)along with that, the plant can heal wounds, burns and ease scars, great little plant, very easy to grow in your yard as well! oh thanks for the tip! i never knew they sold hair dye at natural food stores, but i'll def check it out nxt time! :)

I use aloe vera gel everyday as my moisturizer (I have oily skin). I just mix a couple of drops of tea tree oil or lavender into a glob of gel, and I have enough for my face, neck, and chest. You can use whatever essential oils you like that are safe for skin. It works great!
Lily, you look great! I am also one of the few ladies that hardly ever carries makeup in her bag. I only have my Glossimer and I dont ever use- what a shame. I am also on a search for a perfect nude lipstick but my skin is really fair, unless in summer so I have difficulty find a shade that doesnt look too brown.
My lashes are long and straight too, I use my curler every day! And you should wear SPF all the time, not just the summer :) Thanks for sharing your info!
You are just about THE cutest and most stylish girl in the world!!!I LOVE your unique look and and the fact that you are still so down to earth!Smooches to a girl who obviously is the best of both worlds!
Your picture made me giggle and giggle! I love the playful attitude it conveys; you're too cute =)Next time I am at the shop, I am picking up a tub of cocoa butter! Mine ran out a long time ago and I switched to a different brand because it was on sale. Just not the same. Palmer's is fantastic.I'd love to find a good hair dye too... I have never dyed my hair because of all the chemicals in them but it would be fun to try out (especially bright funky colours.)
I love your picture, so cute.I love aloe vera too. It works on everything. It works well as a moisturizer, it doesn't clog pores and it's not heavy. I've even put it in my hair whenever my hair is super frizzy and it tames frizz too.
OMg! lol Kudos to you for being brave enough to post that pic! you come off as so playful! And I tottally know what you mean... My closet is like 7/8 summer cloths!!!! And then I always complain in winter I have nothing to wear lol!
Tan is Love
I'm a bit of a shopaholic myself....I just can't help myself...I wish I had the same amount of confidence with just lipstick on that I do with a full face of makeup. Mark has a cute inexpensive retractable kabuki brush ....you should check it out.
Hi Lily! An eye kabuki? I've never heard of such a thing. It sounds awesome! Urban Decay has made a nude lipstick called Naked, I"m not sure how it looks though. Aloe vera is such a great product. Good for burns, skin irritation, healing, etc. I may have to try it as a moisturizer if I can manage not to kill the plant...Thanks for the info.
Eye kabuki brush is available from Everyday Minerals http://www.everydayminerals.com/store/makeup/brushes/eye-kabuki-brush.htmlPerfect for applying mineral makeup in tight corners around your nose and eyes.I can't live without it!
I was getting ready to post the same thing- I've never heard of an eye kabuki... and now I must have one!
Hi Lily, its nice to meet you :) You look so cute in your photo. I love my eye kabuki too, especially for under eye concealer
Hi Lily! What sort of business do you own? I really recommend the EcoTools Retractable Kabuki brush, it's a great product, you can't go wrong with it! As for a nude lipcolor, I think it's best to just test out different brands to see what suits you best in terms of formulation and color.
Hi nina! :)It's always been a dream to start my own little business, i started off with some cosmetics, that didn't so well, now i've opt for swimwear i've just got it started though, i refer to it as my newborn lolthanks for the tips and recommendations! i'll def check out eco tools they sound very environmentally friendly which is a bonus! :)

hello lily !!!Your picture is so funny !!!
Hi Lily nice to read all about you and I also love your cute picture :-) x x
Hi Lily, nice to meet you! Absolutely love your picture! So adorable and fun!
is witch hazel better or tea tree oil, as a toner?
it's cute how your mom is your inspiration. i love how old school moms are so simple and classic. just wearing lipstick is enough for my mom too!
Cute picture. Thanks for the tip, I think that any tea tree oil product also works really well on damaged or blemished skin.
Lily, your photo is so awesome! I love your cheeky look into the camera. :DIt was great getting to know you Lily. :D
Hi Lily,Must mention that I love your name. Also your picture is very cute. Noticed you wear a greenish eyeshadow colour around your eye and it looks great with the hat! Matches perfectly. I was just on the EDM site and ordered some items, one of them was a eye Kabuki brush but I ordered the junior. I this the one that everyone is talking about? Also please share with us what kind of business you own? I would love to hear where your inspiration comes from.Artcandy

Hi Robyn!Thank you for your lovely comment :)Yes, the EDM eye kabuki brush, i love how soft they are!I pretty much just recently started my little business, it's for swimwear (i've been meaning to do something about it for 2yrs but uni has been putting me off.) there isn't any specific inspiration in starting, i started in retail when i was 16 and the long hours/min pay/mean manager wasn't pretty, so i wanted to do something on my own. swimwear can be ridiculously expensive around here, so my motto is to minimize the price yet still push excellent quality products. :)

Nice to learn more about you Lily.I love the picture...too funny! As to just using spf in the summer, you should try the moisturizers with spf already in them. You still get the benefits and no extra effort.

i love love love your picture!! Thank you for the aloe idea! I have aweful pores..Well just aweful skin!!
Thanks for the tips on the Aloe plant, I recently saw them discounted at Walgreen's of all places.
love your picture, thanks for the interview! I have tried aloe on my face before, it didn't work out so well for me. I wonder why?
Hi sunshinegal! :)thanks for the comment! did you rub the juice of the actual plant on your face? aloe gel doesn't work well on my face but the plant does!

Hullo Lily! I have the same skin tone, it makes foundation shopping quite a pain, doesn't it?
You are so adorable. I love, love Palmer's Cocoa Butter for lips in the swivel stick. I keep one in my purse and one on my vanity. Did you know Palmer's has a new product? It's a Moisturizing Gel Oil with SPF 15 & Vitamin E. It's very thick so it's great for super dry skin, which is what I have. It's also fabulous to use on your cuticles and feet. At night I normally have used my cocoa butter for lips around my eyes, but now I'm using the gel oil. It has a nice pleasant scent. There was one product I bought years ago from Palmer's that was cocoa butter and the smell was terrible. I can't remember what it was, but I returned it.I have the same problem with my lashes. I have to use a lash curler or my lashes stick straight out.Welcome to Megs!!!

Nice meeting you! That rocks you own your own business! And that your mom is your beauty inspiration!
Hey Lily. I love your picture! It tells us a lot about you! I think it's awesome that you have your own swimwear business. I'm kinda doing the same thing as you. I have my business degree and I'm working in retail *for no pay as well* in order to find my niche and develop my skills. I want to be a retail marketing analyst and eventually own my own business as well. Do you have any tips for me?
