GETTING TO KNOW RYNTHAYER! SPOTLIGHT ON KATHRYN THAYER!
Name: Kathryn Thayer
Age: 24
Vocation: Recent College Grad... not sure where to go from here.
What is in your purse? L'Oreal true match super-blendable compact makeup in C2, mark. powder buff in Nude, mark. matte-nificent in Ivory/Nude, mark. hook-up with good riddance in fair/light on one side and and pro gloss in sexy on the other, Lip Fusion in Blush, Dior Addict Lip Maximizer, Dior Addict Lip Glow, strawberry Carmex stick, original Burt's Bees stick, Mark. juice gem in Pomegranate, CVS brand pomegranate beeswax lip balm, Healing Waters peach lip butter, Nerd's Brand lip balm strawberry/grape swirl (soooo yummy) and ModelCo Glass in Passionfruit.
Guilty Pleasure: bad MTV reality shows.
Skin color, type and any special skin concerns: My skin is pale and ruddy. It's very sensitive and gets red and rashes quite easily.
Beauty inspiration: I find beauty inspiration all around me. In magazines, on TV, at the grocery store, old movies and at the farmer's market, basically everywhere. I like to combine looks I see. I love to play around and I am all over the place with the type of looks I like to create so I could never name just one person whose look inspires me.
Top 3 skincare products:
1. Mark See Things Clearly moisturizer - this moisturizes enough for my dry skin and evens out my complexion plus gives it a little bit of glow.
2. Mark Calm Yourself Hydrating Mask - this is cooling and feels soooo good after too much time in the Desert or beach sun or the morning after having a few too many.
3. Clean and Clear In Shower Facials - I love both the original and the citrus. I love to use these before a big night out. They leave my face feeling like I have a beautiful model-like complexion perfect for a full application of formal nighttime make-up.
Top 3 tools of the trade:
1. Sonia Kashuk Blending Sponge - This is a virtual dupe for the beautyblender only instead of being a normal egg shape it has an hourglass shaped indentation in the middle which makes a perfect grip. Oh yeah, and it's 1/2 the price from Target.
2. Sonia Kashuk Duo Fiber Powder Brush - It's perfect for putting the lightest coat of powder over foundation when you want a finish and lasting powder without a powdery look.
3. MAC 168E Brush - This is a smaller version of their 168 which is an angled contour brush and it is perfect for applied the teeny tiniest amount of blush which is all I can ever wear and only after a full face of foundation because of my tiny face and natural pinkness
Best beauty secret/tip:
Stop overpaying for pedicures! Instead buy a ped egg, the revlon version or the dr. Scholls one from the drug store or Target and some professional strength cuticle remover and orange sticks from the beauty supply store. Now you can prepare your fingers and toes for polishing yourself, then go to the nail salon and get both your finger and toe nails painted for a fraction of the cost of a mani/pedi. You still get flawless polish application and the use of the salon dryers as well as the experience of heading to the salon, but at a fraction of the cost.
Three current beauty products you'd like to buy:
1. TEMPTU® AIRbrush Makeup System
2. Matte Nail Polish (especially Sephora's and Zoyas)
3. Dior Addict Lip Polish in both Fresh Expert and Radiance Expert
Great to get to know you Rynthayer! You seem to know a lot about nails and nail polishes and mani/pedis!

I'm so lemming the matte polishes too. I totally agree on doing your own mani/pedis. It's cheaper, it's a nice way to pamper yourself, and there's a real sense of accomplishment in doing t on your own. My additional tips: Use one of those 3 or 4 way files that really buffs and shines the nails, and also use a nail treatment base coat or a ridge filler--both of these really help the polish go on nice and smooth.
I totally agree with the recommendation of the buffing block! I get the 4-way Tropcial Shine block from Sally's. LOVE IT!
I will look for that next time I'm at Sally's...I can't believe I'd never been there before until recently!
Hey!!I also love that mark calm yourself mask. Meg sent it to me, I love to use it after an aspirin mask when I have time. It makes my skin feel like I've just had a facial!I am dying to try the temptu airbrushing!! Has that been reviewed on here yet?
I really wanna try the Temptu too! Next time I'm near a Sephora I hope they have one I can play with. I'm a nerd and love gadgets, so beauty-related ones get me super excited lol.
Great tips! Sadly I neglect my feet too much. I didn't know Clean and Clear had an in-shower facial product. This is worth investigating! Matte nail polishes are really in right now and depending on the colour, they can look amazing! Perhaps Kathryn can offer some colour recs? ;D
I'm interested in these Clean and Clear products too--hadn't heard of the in-shower facial products either!
My favorite nail polish color for this fall is cream green. I believe OPI has one in both normal and matte.
Love and Lipgloss,
Kathryn

Yay! Nice to know other 20somethings who are also not really sure "where to go from here" :) I totally agree about your mani/pedi tip! I never get professional manis any more (I used to love getting acrylics but it was too expensive to maintain and I hated shredding my nails). I'd always ruin them within hours of getting them done anyways, so I just do them at home and use some Sally Hansen InstaDri topcoat. Also, I've found that buffing your nails before painting smooths them out and helps them look like you got them done at a salon!

I agree with you about the Ped Egg, I have one and I love it! I love to go barefoot and that in turn has given me some caloused feet, but with the Ped Egg and a good rich moisturizer I can wear those pretty sexy sandles. Thanks for sharing you beauty tips
I'm totally loving Zoya's matte collection for this fall. I wasn't so sure about it at first, but I'm really starting to love it. I know that China Glaze is coming out with a matte top coat, which will convert ANY polish into a matte. I think OPI and some other brands already have them out. I must buy it a version.
I'm thinking I might just try a matte topcoat too. I was looking at matte polishes at Ulta the other day but the warnings on the display about chipping deterred me. I have such chipping problems anyway. Maybe a topcoat won't be so bad.
Love and Lipgloss,
Kathryn

Lol Id love to do my own pedis and manis... but it turns out IM just too darn lazy....I bought a do it yourself acrylic before.... yea.... it sat there.... till I finally threw it away cause it was like 2 years old...But way to go for actually having the ambition to do it!!

Thanks for sharing! :) Ican do my own toes perfectly well, but I still love getting pedis now and then, it's just such a nice pampering treat! I can't resist hehe.
I dont waste my money on pedicures. I take great care of my feet myself, and I dont have any major foot problems that would rewuire me to go to the nail place anyway. Filing, shaping, and all that, I can do myself. The paint job I do is like an 8/10, but if Im really feinding for a pro job, Ill go to a salon. But I havnt in years. I can even do my own french tips on my toes!
Hi Kathryn, its nice to meet you :) I love your smile in you photo, you're so cute! Great tip on the mani/pedi's
Oh I can't *wait* to try the matte nail-polishes, they look so classy. I'm thinking I'll go with a matte top coat to transform my existing polishes when I'm going somewhere special. : ]Also, I've been a bit weirded out by the ped-egg and all of the different versions that are popping up.. it looks so.. yucky. :| Do you really like the results? I guess you're just one of a few people I've heard trying to extoll the virtues, so I may just have to try it out!Great to meet you Kathryn. ♥
I don't know what to do with myself after I graduate either. It's kind of a crappy time to be coming out of school isn't it? Thanks for the tip about the mani/pedi. I wonder if a salon near me will do just a paint job...I'm glad to know that the Sonia Kashuk sponge works well. I thought about buying it but I wear powder foundation. I may get it for my mom though. She wears liquid. Nice getting to know you!
It actually works really well with powders too. I use it with my mark. Powder Buff to get a full coverage look.
Love and Lipgloss,
Kathryn

I wish I spent more effort and time on my nails to make them pretty. Hmmm I should
Me too Lanz l have done them so beautifully on occasions and then they just get messed up :-( straight after doing them !!!
Great to meet you! I always do my own pedi's (I actually would be to embarrassed to get a real one because my feet are horrible from 17 years worth of ballet) and its so much fun to set it up and do it at home. It makes me feel great after, even though its my feet.I'd love to try a matte polish, but I have heard you aren't supposed to use a top coat because they're matte?
Nice to meet you! Your smile just lightens up your face.I love the Ped Egg. I don't know how I ever lived without it. Believe all the hype Shaybear. It works wonders. I do my own pedis at home. I used to get french tips at the salon but that became too expensive on my budget so I've learned to love my plain old nails. I hardly ever paint my fingernails because of all the typing I do. But I love to do my feet. It is relaxing to me even though I'm doing the work. LOL.Thanks for sharing with us!
Old movies are the best places for beauty-inspiration. I also love Sonia Kashuk.. I have her brush set! And the ped egg...best. invention. ever!

I have never tried the ped egg! although i think my foot does need a well deserved pedicure, i don't think i've ever pampered my foot, due to time restriction.. and sitting with my head pointing at my food make me extremely dizzy!my mum bought me these slippers they have little plastic massage ball thingy on the sole, they do great things to my feet :) a little painful sometimes though!

What a great idea on the ped egg and the half pedi at home and half at the salon! I always feel like my own polish jobs never last as long. Love your picture, you look like the happiest person!
i completely aqree with your tip!!i love the whole experience of qoinqto the salon, but i found that by preppinq my nails myself and waxinq from home, i am savinq so much $$!.
»smilε :)
I have never had a pedicure, I've always done them myself and I kind of like it :) I am kind of weird and I like having manicures done profesionally (maybe because I'm right handed and it takes too much cordination to use my left hand) however in these tough economic times I haven't had a mani in over a year cause I've been doing my own!
I use the PedEgg also and I have always liked doing my pedicures myself. I am also wanting an airbrush application system and Temptu was the one I set my heart on, because of its look and at $225 its one of the cheaper ones on the market. If you get it soon Kathryn let me know how you like it :)
Style may be on the surface, but you can be deep and still have some - Clarissa Gough
Thank you so much for the compliments. It especially makes me feel good because my brother told me I should change my Facbook picture from that one because he thinks I look "scary" in it. It seriously brightened my day to see myself on here and see so many comments.
Love and Lipgloss,
Kathryn

i couldnt use a ped egg i use moisturiser and moisturising socks, the ped egg adverts grosses me out so bad-when they tip the "shavings" in to the bin!!loving matte polishes though!
Hi Kathryn! Nice to meet you, you have a gorgeous smile! :DI too love that Mark Calm Yourself Hydrating Mask (that I got from Meg) doesn't it just feel amazing? I wish we had those Sonia Kashuk blending sponges here, I pay so much for beautyblenders for my kit! :(Love the tip btw! I always do my own pedis and manis. We had to learn how to do them as part of my makeup course and it really is pretty basic and easy to do! Not to mention that it feels great afterwards! And I also really want an airbrush application system...
wow, you carry lots of makeup in your purse :) I am also thinking about nice dark matter polish for Fall - I currently have Essie in Pama limited edition color, it is a very nice rich dark red color that is not too vampy. I know Zoya had Truth or Dare collection and it has quite a few matte polishes in it!
I see your a mark fan as well....and great idea about the ped egg sooo true just buy one and you can just give yourself a mani and pedi at home when ever you need 2 ....great idea!!!
Yes, great tip Kathryn! I myself will never ever pay for a mani/pedi again. It's just one thing you can save on because everyone can do their nails, you just have to set time for it. :)
I definitely agree with doing your own manicures and pedicures. With a little practice it is easy to get great results! Plus, it is much easier to ensure that you are using sterile equipment when it is your own.
so you're a mark fan. i've never really used mark products but i intend to one day. also, i like your top 3 tools of the trade. i love sonia kashuk!
Thanks for the tips.
Hi Kathryn! so nice to meet you!! I am such a fan Sonia Kashuk's duo fiber brush, love it!!! I love my ped egg as well!
Nice to meet you Kathryn!Bythe way, I love your hair...it looks super soft and shiny.I like the clean & clear in shower facials too.

I use the version of the Ped egg that they sell on QVC, I love it. I do love getting Pedicures though, it really is a treat. I do my own fingernails. Whenever I buff my nails they break, my nails do so much better if I don't buff the surface of the nail.
very nice interview, I also am a sucker for bad MTV and VH1 reality shows. haha Good tips on the home pedicure, I love giving myself those with my foot spa and some good foot scrubs and oils and lotions. I need to do this tonight!
I just graduated to and I'm trying to find my way. It's a tough time to be a recent graduate. No one is hiring and no one is willing to train new people. I've been thinking about getting the MAC 168 but I think the 168E is more what I need. I'm glad to hear that you love it.I love the look of the matte nailpolishes to.
Thanks for your help! I love your tips on mani/pedis - I very rarely get professional ones either, although it does appear that I need to pick up some new tools for my at-home ones! :)
xoxo
I love pedis! Hey girl how is the Dior Addict gloss? i have been really wanting to try it !
Julie Dee <3
Hi Kathryn! Dior & Mac products are wonderful. I can't ever seem to get away from their cosmetic counters. Oh I would love to try the Temptu also. I don't know anyone who has one yet. I have recently read good reviews on those Sonia Kashuk brushes. Great beauty tip for manicures and pedicures - Thanks! I have a ped-egg and think it's fantastic. Kind of gross, but what a seriously wonderful job it does. Nice to meet you!
Hi Kathryn! Nice to meet you!
So nice to meet you!
Great tip! Cheap prices but not cheap quality, great tips to stay touched up and relaxed for worthwhile prices.
