JULIE HEWITT! HUE COLOR CREAM EYESHADOWS!
Tantejoan here and I Love a Mystery! Ever since I had that color makeover by Maybelline’s color consultant Chuck Hezekiah I have been keeping in mind his comment about the changeable nature of my eye color lending itself to a very broad spectrum of colors. Now, when I go to the drugstore or department store counter, I admit I am a bit bolder in my choice of colors, and it is quite exhilarating, especially since the previews of fall fashions all show that jewel tones are back, in clothing and in makeup.
But my favorite colors for the eye are actually a form of no-color, the greiges and blue-greys and greenish-taupes that look especially good in these early, pre-Fall days. Their indeterminate hues make my blue eyes come to the fore, but veiled in a kind of mystery. That’s why, when Meg sent me an eye shadow from Julie Hewett called “Mystere” I leaped to be first in line to review it.
Mystere is right up my alley, Eye Shadow Alley, that is. It is a mauve-y, amethyst-y, grayish pot of muted color that is both a perfect, perfectly light version of a smoky eye color, beautifully buildable yet subtle. For evening it demonstrates its versatility as a base for a more dramatic, traditional smoky eye when combined with powder shadow and liner. The wonderful thing about a color like this is that it is arresting and bold on the young, but very forgiving on eyelids such as mine. You know, the kind with a bit less elasticity. Mystere draws a veil over all of that, in a sexy, siren-y way I love.
Julie Hewett is an L.A. based makeup artist who first made her mark in the film industry. Her use of vibrant color enhanced period films such as “Pearl Harbor,” “Ocean’s Eleven-Twelve” and “Spiderman-2,” and more recently she has helped bring the intensity of Bollywood-style color palettes on film and off. She has a wonderful line of blushes and eye shades, plus tons of really vibrant “Noir” red lipsticks, balms and glosses. She also has a wonderful little brush called a chubbie that I'm definitely going to buy today. (One of the nice things about her line is that she sells multiples at a discount – I’m getting another eye color, a blush and the chubbie for much less than they would be bought individually.)
This line is a real find, and just in time for me to experiment with some Fall colors now that my complexion is back to its fair shade after a summer of fake tan and Tropic Queen bronzer.

i got mystere from meg and initially i liked the color but ive been having a bits of trouble with it creasing. ive been using too faced shadow insurance but it didnt help. any suggestions? i wanna wear this color.
The colour does look beautiful, but I have never tried cream eyeshadow so cannot comment on creasing. Maybe dusting a powder over top to try and set it?
It really looks like a gorgeous colour, I always have difficulties with purple colours, though and end up using it as a liner only or something. Its coming into spring/summer here in Australia so our colours aren't going to be quite the same! I have tried a couple of cream shadows, but from brands like Max Factor and didn't have any problems with creasing.
That colour looks really nice. I've tried some cream shadows and haven't had any problems, then again I guess it depends on the brand.
Beautiful! I love purples.
Ohh. I'm totally buying Shimmy in Goldie and Camilla Balm!

The color looks gorgeous!! I have bad luck with cream eyeshadows but maybe I will give this one a try!
I loved the color, however I had trouble with it shifting. It seemed to all slide to the crease and then it didn't look like I had on any eye shadow. I did try it with a primer and it still did this. I have dry skin and normally don't have trouble with cream eye makeup. Wet and Wild's cream colors stay put on me just fine. My advise, Mystere is such a beautiful color and if you can, try get a sample before buying. If it doesn't crease on you, then go for it.

Ooh, selling multiples at a discount is a fantastic marketing method! I would definitely check out a line who does that. Bravo Julie Hewett! Also, I love that colour - I've been very much into purples at the moment, they seem to bring out such a provocative look. : ]
That purple color looks amazing. I love wearing purple shadow, it brings out the green in my eyes.I received Mystere from Meg and I love the color. It's perfect. It's so pigmented and shimmery. It's awesome to use as a shadow base, or it works well all by itself. I used to make a gorgeous smokey eye the other day, but I do have a gripe with this shadow. It creases on me pretty badly, even after using primer. I love the color, so I'll continue wearing it, but I just wish I could find a way to make it crease less.
Love Julie Hewett...thank you my pretty pink box for introducing us! I love her cheek/lip stains. I'm going over to her site right away to check out the new eye colors. Thanks!
Wow! I hadn't heard of her before but I LOVED the makeup in Pearl Harbor so I guess I'm an unknowing fan :DThe "which red are you" feature on the website is really cool--check it out!
that is a lovely purple shade and it's perfect for the fall season. i have a real hard time with cream eyeshadows creasing on me so i tend to stay away. have you had that problem with this product?i'm so ready for more purples, grays, and dark greens in my closet and on my face!

I have a nice Julie Hewett palette I got from myprettypinkbox.com, and I love it. It's all cream products, and they're so nice! I really like the blushes. I'd love to try more of her products, including the cream shadows.
I love creme eyeshadow but I hate how it creases and smudges. How is it with this brand?I probably would wear the violet but the other colors arent there enough for me! i LIKE BOLD!!!I am however very excited about fall fashions coming into play... but sad too see the warm sun duck out.
Tan is Love
I lurve purple and lavender eye shadows. Also, it might be time for me to sign up for My Pretty Pink Box.
i love cream shadows, but only if it's used for a light shimmer. otherwise they usually get stuck in my crease :( and looks all gross by the time i got home.otherwise i think they are great as a primer/base or highlight etc.

What a gorgeous colour. I love purples. I don't often wear creme eyeshadow by itself, but its my favourite base for loose mineral pigments. It also means that I can play around with the colour, for example put a light blue creme under purple eyeshadow...
I'm so sorry to hear all of these creasing-shifting comments, because I don't get this problem at all and cream shadows are my preferred texture, especially in cooler-cold weather. My office tends to be overheated and dry, making the cream formulas a blessing. I am, however, pretty consistent about using an eyeshadow base before any color, and that helps things stay put. The Urban Decay works fine, but I also use MAC's Painterly, which has a thicker, almost tackier texture. It's great on its own as a light, pinky beige color, but I find it makes a very good foundation for any buildable cream color. Good luck. And by the way, although the photo reads true purple, please note that this is a really versatile neutral color, and can look plummy brown. It all depends on what you wear with it, part of its mystery.
I Just won a Gift basket from Meg and i had 2 Julie Hewett products this product ( In a different color ) iam at work so iam not quit sure on the color and lip stick.. which i tried last nite and loove! I havent put on lipstick in YEARS! so iam excited to see how these 2 products work out for me!
I haven't tried these e/s before but I am in love with the violette color. I am a huge purple e/s fan. I hav never tried a cream e/s but it sounds like something I will be trying out not to far in the future.
i'm not really a fan of cream eyeshadows as it tends to crease BUT if it's used as a base for powder eyeshadow then it's better.
I have yet to break and use eyeshadows... :(
That shade of purple is beautiful and would work well with my green eyes. I have not tried cream eyeshadows before.
A good primer will remove your fear of cream shadows. I use "Spackle" and L'Oreal's "Decrease" from the drugstore. It holds color in place without creasing. Another gem? Ultima II's "Fade Not, Crease Not." The "Mystere" shade is so beautiful that it cannot be described, and I'd love to try this purple. It would greatly enhance my hazel eyes. Ladies, just buy Revlon's Makeup Eraser in a stick and never worry again. If you try something and don't like it, all hints are removed and you move on to something else with which to play. There's no oil in it but works wonders. Great review!
PURPLE!! Wow, I can never get enough of that color :D. Looks quite a bit like the new Stila Smudge Pot, but I think this Julie Hewitt is a bit more exciting.
My daughter favorite color, i love purple too. i love eye shadowsand will have to try this
i am updating my wardrobe and makeup with shades of grey and purples, those colors are very fun as far as makeup goes, and they are neutral enough as accessories. I just got grey bag and grey leggins- possibilities are endless :)
Beautiful color...I'm drawn to purple!!! ehhh ...I'm not sure about cream shadows because of the creasing but as a base it would work fine.
This shade looks perfect, I love purples, it makes my eyes look greener. I also love that you mentioned that it is good for both younger and not so younger eyes. I would love to try this.
Until I started wearing loose mineral eye shadows, cream was all I wore. They are so much more forgiving because they sort of blend on their own. I loved that I could slap on several colours without having to be absolutely accurate and it always looked amazing. You definitely have to work harder with loose minerals! Purple is one of my favourite colours.
Looks gorgeous. But I stick to powder eye shadow. I gave up creams years ago because of creasing :( but it does look really pretty. I love all shades of purple for my eyes!!!
i prefer the powder too its too sticky cream eyes shadow for me ...But i have blue eyes and i love purple for my eyes ...
I love purple and am so glad this is a good fall color. I have something similar to this shade from MAC and am excited that I can use it more and more as the weather cools. I'm still afraid to try cream though... occassionally I'll wet a brush and dip it in some loose eye shadow and make a cream version, but it creases so I'm not adventurous to actually try a real cream shadow. Maybe I will soon!
Purple is one of my favorite colors too. With brown eyes, I tend to use greens more - but am drawn to the purple family. And with the interesting color of Mystere, it just might work for me. TJ, after your Maybelline color makeover, I bought the eyeshadow quartet in the green, and have been happy with it. Then I got a Vincent Longo trio from Beauty Ticket - which has a pale lavender, a deep one, and a nice green. Those colors go quite well together. But these are all powders. The only cream shadow I've used in years is Benefit in Stiletto. Couldn't resist the eggplant shade and the name! Using primer potion keeps my eyeshadow in place - no sense putting the makeup on unless it's going to stay put!

I'm always pretty hesitant to try these cream shadows cause they cream always clumps into the crevice of my eyelid... Then when you try to fix it, the shadow is all hard and unspreadable! eek such an arravating process

this looks like a great color. also reminds me a bit of the stila barbie collection in violet. packaging too.

I also received this from Meg and love the color! I use is at a base and use a very similar powder color on top to help with creasing. Thanks again Meg!
I am so excited to try this color! I love jewel tones, and with my hazel eyes I usually gravitate to purples. This color looks so dreamy and yes, mysterious! I'm a bit worried about creasing...but I use a primer so I'll see how it goes! If it does crease, i think it would still be a gorgeous base to use underneath other jewel tone powders! Love this!!! Thanks so much for the review ♥
"Never take someone for granted. Hold every person close to your heart because you might wake up one day and realize that you've lost a diamond while you were too busy collecting stones..."
I love jewel tones in clothing but for me it just looks a little sloppy for makeup.
Such a pretty color!! OHH!!
I love this color, it looks amazing! I too have an issue with cream shadows though, even with a primer. I would love to try violette too. :)
The colour looks pretty! I`ve tried cream eyeshadows and the trick is to apply a very little amount of product to avoid creasing. Dusting a powder over is a good idea too.
I received this from Meg, and also felt that the gorgeous color was a bit difficult to describe (a smokey dusty purple color?) I loved the color, and how smooth it felt (I applied it with an ecotools flat eyeshadow brush). I personally feel that the color is pretty versatile and would be good for work, or going out. However, it is a bit expensive, and tends to crease (although it creases a little less when I apply eyeshadow primer and set it with powder afterwards). The problem is that when I use a powder on top, the color isn't quite the same. But I do like this product a lot :) Thanks, Meg!

Hii Tantejoan!!How are u?
It is true that this color brings mystery and sensuality!
The color is very sweet and very pronounced at the same time! What can exactly attract!
The color has to sublimate the glance!

Amy , Big kisses from Paris!

Purple is my favourite color, and this looks gorgeous! Applied lightly with a lavender shadow, you have a bold day look. Applied with grey, blacks and deep purples, you have a beautiful colored smokey eye! :)
