im frugal but i havent mastered the sacrifice thing. i cant wait to read others' stories.
I am the worst when it comes to spending what I don't have! Before I moved I was A Manager of a Starbucks. I was making quite a bit of money! 18.95 an hour. And even then I spent money I shouldn't have been spending! I LOVE LOVE LOVE to spend money, even if it's stuff I really didn't need that much. And I used to go to the Casino alot! Almost 3 months ago I moved and went back to school. Although I am so happy about finally getting back on track to my dream of being a Veterinarian, I am unhappy about the pay cut I had to take. I'm in school all day so I had to opt to be just a barista at starbucks. I now make 8.75 an hour :S
But you would never know it by the way I still buy stuff!! I'm still in the bad habit of spending like I used to with no money to spend!!I have a seperate checking account with my rent money for the year in it.... Needless to say... I have used that card for quite a bit of purchases lately! and If I keep it up I'm going to prematurely run out of rent money half way through the year!!My most recent purchases include upping my tanning package to the top package (gotta look good), 2 New tanning lotions, Estee Lauder splurge and maxing out my maurices card. (Hey it's fall... I need new clothes)That was just this week!!! I just got paid today it was enough to cover mabey.... an 1/8 of what I spent this week! So the cutbacks begin!I just canceled my netflix!!! Sad to see it go, instant watch rocks!and I decided I'm going to live on what scraps of food are left in my house till the 3rd. Why the 3rd? I get my new lot of Food Stamps then... YES!! So when it comes to food I usually eat really good the first half of the month and it slowly get's worse and worse untill I'm randomly showing up at friends houses around dinner time.... Me: "Oh I'm sorry is this a bad time??" Friend: "Noo not at all, you can have a bite to eat with us"Me: "You are TOOOO kind"Friend: "Is that a new coach purse??"lolThank god I have paid off my car before I moved! When I used to have to make those payments I used to cut out ALOT just to go on my little spending sprees!I've taken toilet paper from work (unnecessary cost!!)Starbucks Napkins are awesome!!I've actually let my car run out of gas!! Almost been fired from not paying my union dues!!!!! ( I hate those union dues!!!!! So I pay them last usually)Lol But I always buy new treats and toys for my bird and cat!! Plus Im getting a kitten in a few weeks!!! So excited!!!And here is the Number ONE desperate act on my part so that I can spend big.I sell my PLASMA!!! Yep... Twice a week, 30 bucks a visit! In a month of selling plasma I can afford to spend 240 dollars more on making myself happy and beautiful ;) So lately I've been considering selling my eggs o.0I know it sounds crazy... but I'm pretty not all there.... I think I MIGHT be crazy enough to do it... You get paid 5,000 -15,000 dollars depending on your eggs!!!!! OMG THAT"S ALOT OF MONEY!!My Name is Leighann and I'm a spendaholic.Check me into rehab before it's too LATE!!!

I think Punkeydew wins! Except don't sell your eggs. They pump you full of hormones and you'll sprout hairs on your chin, a friend of mine in college said that's exactly why she didn't do it!
Lol I know about the hormones which is exactly why I havn't just gone for it... Plus I'm pretty crazy and Im afraid what MORE hormones will do to me.But I DID NOT however know about the hairy chin part.... lol that's a definite turn off :S Yet.... for 15,000 I might be able to get some cheap electrolysis... ;)

Yes, I think it is going to be hard to top that story! But good for you for following your dreams! I am lucky enough that my parents are paying for my veterinary education, and won't charge me interest when I start paying them back! So for now all the money I make for myself can go to fun stuff!
Wow, I don't think i'd ever go that far :)I love my makeup but i tend to buy it when it's on sale or i ask for gift cards and then use them to buy from sephora or ulta when they are having sales. I have so much makeup that it almost makes me sick esp since i hardly ever use it--I feel so wasteful but.....I just gotta have it! I guess we all have our obsessions and mine is makeup and body lotions and the big oneCHAPSTICK!!!!!
Thankfully I consider myself rather good at budgeting. I am not tight, but I know when to say know.Generally what I do is if I see something I like (clothes, makeup, whatever) I look at it, test it out, try it on. Then one week later if I still like it and I am still thinking about it,I go back and buy it. This doesn't always happen, obviously, but I *try* do it. I find I save a bit more that way as I am not impulse purchasing :)
I'm with you Alice. Being a student and having an almost non-existent wage means I have to write a list and stick to it whenever I go shopping for anything. This goes from groceries to make-up to clothes and shoes.Thankfully discovering Meg's Makeup has meant I can still indulge in beautiful, luxe items without stretching my budget and going beyond my means! Level-headed budget conscious sista's rejoice in Meg's! :D
I agree with both of you. Being a student and only working a few hours a week means that I need to spend sensibly. But luckily I have never been an impulse buyer so thats not too difficult. Thanks for the site Meg, theres some great bargins on there.
We don't have cell phones, cable, my tv is 20 years old, no one in our house has bought new clothes since 2005, clip coupons, and we drive vehicles from the early 1990's. Still money is very tight as my husband lost his job in 2005 and did not find one until December 2008. He tried his own business but he let people pay late and did lots of work for free so we were in the red well over 6 figures. Needless to say, we may never be able to pay all that money back. And then I have a severe spending habit. My true weakness is fabric stores. I love to sew and love fabric, very expensive wonderful fabric. I am a devout member of SABLE (stash accumulated beyond life expectancy). We would not have money for our mortgage or food, yet I would buy fabric. Finally it became so bad my husband had to ask everyone I knew to not let me go to a fabric store. I have been 15 days fabric free. It has been the longest 15 days in my life. I feel like I need a 12 step program to help me through this.

I don't imagine that this will be a killer saga, but this is my tale:Growing up my family was not very well off. I lived with my Mom and Grandma who were both ill and could not work. I was able to attend private Catholic school because of scholarships and I did work study. Throughout the week I worked after school cleaning and/or helping out with bingo. During the summer (in high school), I would work during the week on cleaning, painting, weeding, etc. I feel that my upbringing gave me some sense of frugality and responsibility. My family did have to rely on some government help to get by: food stamps, commodities. I wore the same clothes year after year. I had to watch my friends do things and go on trips that I could not afford. I remember when I went out to eat with my friends..... If we went to Olive Garden, I had water and the free breadsticks. Sometimes a friend would give me her side of spaghetti. Sometimes I had a few dollars and could split an app! We had not water from time to time. That sucked. All of these sacrifices were made by my family so I could get a good education. However, I did become obessed with skincare and hair products. I will have to say, though, that in college I still purchased within my means. Bills came first. Fun spending came later. My ingrained sense of responsibility is rather hard to shake. I had a credit card, but my main reason was to buy dance clothes: new ballet shoes, pants for jazz, leg warmers--I'm not kidding. :) And, yeah... I started checking out more beauty products...One thing that I would skip out on a little was food. I was never starving, but I did not eat poshly. There was that time in my early twenties when I regularly skipped lunch so I could have money for ballet class. :) Then for dinner I'd eat a giant $5 burrito from Chipotle as some kind of reward. I typically ate a lot of soup, beans, and eggs. I can cook a mean omelet now! I was a theatre major in college, and after I graduated, a lot of my friends moved to New York. I was talking to a professor about how I wished that I could go, but I did not have enough money. He suggested that I should just throw caution to the wind, forget about my bills, and just go--What!!??!?? That sounded like the most absurd thing ever to me! Not pay your bills? Do you know what that does to your credit? Needless to say, I never made it to New York. (Although I have visited, and by golly, I just LOVE that city!!!)As I got older, I was able to purchase and try more glamourous beauty products. But, to reiterate: Bills always came first. I did my best not to max out cards. Oh, I used them enough, but I am a major avoider of overdraft charges and late fees. And if I ever get those, you should see me talk my way out of them, and I can because I have a responsible history with my credit card companies. Fast forward to now. I am married. My husband has a stable, well paying job. I want to work full time, but after getting my Master's degree (yay!) I haven't been able to find any work that suits me. For now, I suppose I'm fine with that. My husband wants us to try to really limit credit card use. **cricket** **cricket** But, uh... I can't use our bank card for everything--He's not supposed to see my beauty "budget". :) Well, I have done exponentially better on cutting down on credit card use, and I even let him be privy to much of my product purchasing. However, when I "need" some Kinerase moisturizer, or some $28 face wash... I still use those credit cards. I mean, he just wouldn't understand. To end my too long tale, I will always have a roof over head, my bills paid, something edible in my house, and electricity and water, etc. But I will also always have the amazing beauty products of my desire, because I have my credit cards. I have good credit that I have built since college. So even if I'm jobless (which I was for 3 months this year, and now I make less than half as much as did before I had to quit my full time job, that I hated anyway, in order to finish graduate school strongly) I can buy my $100 peptide serum. Hell yeah! I feel that after all that I didn't have growing up, and after accomplishing so many educational goals (which is why my family sacrificed so much for me in the first place), that I deserve the luxury products that I buy! (Even if they fall a little bit out of the budget of the "bank card".)
I love this site! I never actually looked at it, but when I got a credit card I said, Why not. NOW this is where Im doing all my christmas shopping LOL
LOOL i think all have obssesion its natural !!! and i'm little bit impulsive buyer for clothes And BAGS of course im a girl ;)
Hmmm I generally am pretty good at budgetting... But I'm sure I'll have this problem at some point
I wish i could join in on this great contest!! hahaIam way spoiled! My Boyfriend pays for everything .. and i only work 12 hours a week!! hahaGood luck everybody!!! =P
I'm getting married in March so I'm supposed to be saving money to pay for the wedding. Unfortunately, all those savings somehow end up being spent on makeup week after week...I wonder what I'm going to do when it's time to pay up!
I am currently saving for a house that I just bought they give you a few months to pay your first mortgage payment and since all my other money went to the down payment i have to start saving for my first month..... but it is so hard i have been saving for months now with no new clothes or shoes but..... i have not gone without makeup shhhhh dont tell my fiance
I am so fortunate to be at that point in my life (finally!) where I pretty much can afford whatever makes me happy. HOWEVER,I also LOVE to gift/spoil the people I love so it's like I have to "budget" to allow for that/them as well,LOL! I remember literally going to bars at happy hour "back in the day" and HOPING they'd serve something up from the kitchen as a snack because I had no money for dinner! I mean none,it was between eating and the change I had for a bus-ride back to my apartment or one hell of a long walk in a rough part of town. I worked at the Chanel counter of a chichi store and got HUGE boxes from the company sent to me at home, packed with a gazillion $ worth of Chanel products as I was a Rep for them and I'd trade the stuff out to friends for a home-cooked meal,LOL! Eyeshadow for pasta anyone? Lipstick for a burger? :) I once traded out a bottle of Number 5 perfume in exchange for an invite to a HUGE Italian wedding because I KNEW there would be LOTS of food...and cake! Those were the good ol' days??? ;)
Punkeydoo, I think you win...you are too funny.I remember living off Ramen noodles (5 for $1) for quite a while after I spent too much money on myself. Oh, I must have the Too Faced Diamond Lip Gloss! (I am thinking about "candy diamond")
I've used to spend money I should not be spending all the time, but I am getting better about that (no thanks to this site!). But sometimes we just have to splurge on ourselves, because we are totally worth it ;)At least with beautyticket.com, we can spend less to splurge though!
I have never gone without - I only buy when I can (which is pretty much always). My biggest splurge was a white gold 1/2kt diamond ring. I saw it in the jeweler's window and fell in love. I bought it just because it made me happy to see it on my finger. I am financially responsible. I pay my credit card bills (I pay the balance down each month) and I watch my checking account to make sure I don't get too low. I have a savings account that I put money in without fail every month. I buy what I want within reason and only if I can afford it. I try to buy on sale as much as I possibly can. I do eBay, I do discount stores, I buy used books, etc. Before I buy something, I try to think "Do I need this? Why do I want this? Do I have something like this already?" So I think before I buy. But if I think I'll regret it if I don't buy it, then I generally buy it. And I've never really regretted it. I am very proud that I make my own money and spend only within my means and that I don't have to rely on anyone else to feed me, etc. I can take care of myself.
You are my "she-ro" of the month Darlin' himekosorano!!!You defy the stereotypical "20 yr. old" in so many ways and I applaud your fiscal-sense and the fact that you "get it" for one so young...It's VERY important to build some great habits so early in one's financial career and I see fabulous things ahead for you in many ways as well as always being able have those little "extras" that we all need. :)HUGS!!!
i have four kid and it is hard to spend money,at times thinks get very hard and i also try to buy what i need and i love make-up a lot.
I've been hesitating on that first purchase but this is so tempting. I love getting discounts on makeup and skin care!
Wow, at least I now feel like part of a community. I would spend all my money on makeup and skincare.
i spend a lot for no reason.i've come to get stuck with a huge credit card balance that i'm slowly paying off. I ALSO have a huge collection of crap EVERYWHERE in my house where people aren't even allowed in b/c more often than not, there is no space to sit...The worst thing to happen, was somehow we got a moth into the apt. Being that there is so much STUFF, one moth turned into gazillion. And the cleaning began. The Salvation Army and friends have been blessed with over 20 shopping bags full of stuff I have used barely or not at all. The garbage can has seen the rest. Now I am halfway there but I still have to keep catching up to the credit damage. I used to think I was responsible with money but I caught the materialistic bug.I use beautyticket.com now to make purchases and take advantage of any and all coupons if I have to.I'm not going to lie... I still spend when I shouldn't, but as my downgrade from Platinum to plain red macy's card will attest- I have most definitely scaled down.

Brooklyn007 and Himekosorano - you two are such a great inspiration! I wasn't nearly as wise in my youth as you are. You are off to great starts - keeping your priorities straight. Congratulations and best of everything to you both!

The most I have sacrificed is my savings account. Nothing comes between me and my food, not even my makeup! LOL
