ILLAMASQUA! THE LINE IS WORTH MORE THEN JUST A GLANCE! IT IS PHENOM!

"I used to be Snow White but I drifted..." Mae West.
Goddess Granny here and I'd give a lot to have tea with the divine woman who said this originally: someone who was physically amazing and to have a sense of self-depreciating humor as well is truly a legend in my eyes. (Yes Meg...you TOO have those rare qualities, so there! :)
To my way of thinking, the most "beautiful" simply don't take it all so seriously.
I think that most of us dream of being able to maybe just one time, re-create our physical-selves into that which we usually only admire from afar? I think we all most likely have SOMEONE who inspires us to be a bit "more than" we are in our day to day to day lives but unless you are a model, an actor, entertainer, or someone else who deals in the more theatrical aspects of life, we really don't get that many opportunities or options to even attempt such a thing, multiple weddings aside. :)
Like most of us,I have my git n' go daily routine down to a science and it allows me to free up my hands and time so that I can get things done. However, when I'm out and about and spy someone who obviously and for whatever reason HAS taken some extra time with their appearance,I often sigh and wish I had at least made a half-baked attempt at "being" who I TRULY felt like that day and for me, makeup has that power to transform and get the mood and message going faster than just about anything else I might choose to put on.
A couple of weeks ago,the incredible "MissRo" posted about a new cosmetic line on the scene: Illamasqua.
a LOT of what's out there! To impress me so profoundly was a real feat.
I ordered up 2 lipsticks, a highlighter, a powder blush, and an eyeshadow...several items are "backordered" that I am lemming so I get on the damn wait-lists. I want it all but honestly, these days I have SUCH a tough time justifying cosmetic purchases because Meg is very generous with her writers and I am a sucker for a great review as well, often resulting in smokin' my credit card up! :) At this point,I am not a bit skeptical that any of the items will be "typical" simply because they couldn't possibly be based on what I had researched.
Box arrives...not much better than a Sephora order in the mail, right? Elegant but simple glossy black packaging and high-quality slick black cases...better than expected actually. What grabbed me was the "commentary" printed in tiny letters on the back of the lipstick package:" Bring a room to it's knees without saying a word. Each of these glorious colors makes a statement as individual as YOU are!" Now get this....I LOVE THIS and it's my NEW mantra!!!:
"Worn by those who refuse to be everybody...."
I can't think of a better way to express the individuality that is all of us or how better to celebrate it than by experimenting outside one's "comfort zone" and possibly morphing into that special-someone who may inspire us OR to simply cultivate and encourage that which MIGHT just be lurking beneath the surface dying to get out!!!
Yes, I am very passionate about this makeup line for "your alter-ego" because I think that's why we gravitate towards makeup in the first place: we crave that which is beautiful, unique, and special and WANT the world to see us as we do ourselves. :) This is powerful stuff.
Oh, how are the products you ask???? Amazing:simply and completely amazing.
The lipsticks I bought were "Encounter",the most perfect red ever and "Welt", a shade of purpley-pink I have been hunting for forever...smooth and light but very pigmented and go on effortlessly without any dryness or tugging. Staying power is epic! I "needed" a powder blush in a true-pink to wear with the lippys and I chose "Unrequited", a flawless full-blown rose that blends to perfection and gives me an "afterglow" like nothing else.Husband told me I looked "younger" when I first applied it and I promptly smooched the case!
The eyeshadow colors are breathtaking but again,I tried to choose a "need" (such a silly word in this case!:) and picked "Tango" powder-shadow,the copper of a burnished penny that turns my brown eyes to a glowing ginger! I thought I had tried every flippin' type of "highlighter" out there but no...bring on their "Illuminator" in "Halcyon", an ivory-pearl.This goes on wet but quickly dries to a won't-budge finish that adds GLOW to wherever you touch it! Multi-purpose and literally like nothing else I have ever tried,I am captivated by it!!!
I apologize in advance: you'll notice that a lot of Illamasqua's items are "sold out" on the Sephora site...I'm not happy about it either so I'm hoping that Meg can work a pink-spell or two with this incredible company and let them KNOW they are needed, wanted, and desired!!!
The latest collection has me gasping for air and it's not even at Sephora yet....wondering how the plane-fares are to the UK these days? I defy you to check out ONLY the lipstick colors on the Sephora site and tell me that there isn't something you crave?
Now check out the eyelashes...swooning yet?
My current "inspiration" is Rachel Evan Wood as the diabolical and ravishing "Vampire Queen of New Orleans" on my FAV HBO series "True Blood" (the show is genius, directed by Alan Ball of "American Beauty" fame but can be bit gory? LOVE IT!!!) which features some of the most gorgeous human beings/actors I have ever seen. Her makeup as this character is SO over the top 1940's glam and perfect that I am hoping to perhaps re-create her look for Halloween at the very least or preferably, for a local wedding in someone's barn. (you think I jest???)
I have jeans older than this redheaded-Vamp but I can copy her look and pretend for a while, right?
The best part is that is allllllll comes off in the wash. What do you have to loose?
Whether your inner-self sometimes craves the look of the ever so divine "Dita Von Tease" (OOPS... probably shouldn't say her name along with Rachel's, rumor has it the very young Miz Wood caused the marriage of Marilyn Manson/Dita to implode) or the cool-perfection of Greta Garbo, the smokin' hot harshness of a young Joan Jett, or the bombshell/goddess look of Mae West herself, you CAN and OWE IT to yourself to try a product or two from "Illamasqua" and see what you can "make of yourself" when you are inspired in a way perhaps never before!
I am in their debt: Illamasqua has renewed my LOVE of makeup and color and re-inspired me to dig deeper and find those elusive and FABULOUS creature lurking within!
Who knows who's hiding inside just begging to come out and play....:) Whose look would you love to be able to re-create on yourself though the magic of makeup?

yay i might be the the first to comment so that is exciting... this line looks great. Well... I would love to replicate a cat woman look http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_AvrEgmWvcNk/SQsPYLx8AVI/AAAAAAAABII/MxjtoukYOa..... there are some great vintage images of this and i would love to perfect it but in a wearable way like angelina jolie.. http://fileserver.glam.com/glampress/beauty/slideshows/Angelina-Jolie-Ca... so far no luck at getting the eyeliner on nicely- i just a bit crap at it.. or maybe it is the fault of those stiff wands that come in my few eyeliners that i have.. well anyways it looks foxy! or catty rather.
makeup makeup makeup!!!!!!!
ooh that DOES look like the perfect red. I love their looks on their website too.
WOW just checked out the looks...♥ I am in LOVE with this line! I'm going to have to get some goodies at Sephora soon. The colors are amazing!!!
"Never take someone for granted. Hold every person close to your heart because you might wake up one day and realize that you've lost a diamond while you were too busy collecting stones..."
I seriously love the idea of m/u for an alter ego. I certainly have one which I sometimes wish I'd take an extra 5 to find. But life is just a little busy sometimes!!I have heard great things about their lines as well - Fingers crossed that a Sephora swings my way in the next few years!!
I am so glad to see that someone wrote an opinion on their purchases from this company! I almost always love to see opinions and esp on makeup! I am not a fan of red lipstick so i'll have to check out some of their more neutral shades and i really want to check out their highlighter....it sounds enchanting ;)
i LOVE the queen vamp on true blood, too! im doing a "vamp-y" look for my friend's birthday dinner this friday. not doing a red lip though. more goth, i guess.

i dont think i can ever pull off a red lip :(
theres only 3 kidns of lip products that i can see right now, and im not a big fan of red lipstick for myself, hopefully they have a really vibrant hot pink, thats more of my look. But I LOVE the packaging. It kind of reminds me of Alexander McQueen lol
great review, certainly very enticing. The lipstick looks like a nice deep red, rather than a bright red...however I try to steer away from most prominent coloured lipsticks and try to stick with light pink, clear and nudes.as for re-creation lol i don't think i'm hip enough with make up to recreate anything but theatrical... but only within my own four walls.

My alter ego has been dying to come out and show herself with bold red lips and not the neutral lips that I have been wearing.
I love that slogan too.I want full on forties starlet red lips. I want eye shadow that smolders. I don't know if I can pull off matte though. I generally stick to shimmers and shines to bring out my eyes and lips. Otherwise, they disappear. So I'll have to focus on their shimmery stuff, which means the lipstick is out. But those colors are so lovely...
Wow goddess granny watta review-I dont know where to start-mae west quotes(ha ha wouldn't you two get on like a house on fire),bit o celeb gossip thrown in for good measure and using weddings as an excuse to change your look-love it.I see the true blood obsession is still in full swing-its coming to I reland soon so will get to see what all the fuss is about-yey.Anyway back to Illamasqua-god damn it your some make up pusher-now I really want the tango eyeshadow ,the unrequited blush(a true rose my fav-been looking for the right one for years)and the halcyon illuminator. The beauty blogging world is going crazy for Illamasqua-Ive yet to read a bad review.I think you should forward Illamasqua your glowing review as a way of luring them to megs.PS-my beauty icons-cindy crawford, rita hayworth(especially in gilda),veronica lake and I know this is crazy cos shes a cartoon-jessica rabbit-gotta love the hair("Im not bad Im just drawn that way").

Champ guerlain have a new product a pearly lip liner just for your cupids bow-you apply to the bow and it catches the light and makes your lips look fuller, also if you apply a lighter lippy or gloss to the center of your lower lip-it makes your lips appear fuller too.

Great review. After that first post about this line I had to check it out--I love the photos on their site, they are really like artwork, all inspired by beautiful makeup. I'm noticing lots of matte lipsticks in the collection...very "in" for fall!
I can't comment on product yet but that shade of red is TO DIE FOR! I have always wanted to play up the black lashes, white face and RED LIPS look but alas my lips would look like little bloody red fish lying on my face. I DO however applaud and encourage your ideal to step out of your comfort zone with makeup...at least for a night out. For those who do no know I let Goddess Granny do a makeup makeover for me the night we went out to the Pink Steakhouse at the Madonna Inn and although I can say I don't know if I would ever be able to recreate the sparkly eye AND red lip combo she did for me (God love her)...I DID just let it fly and went with it! It was FUN and I had a blast. I absolutely stepped out of my comfort zone and had SUCH a good time that night.God gave us a WORLD FULL OF COLOR!!! Don't be afraid to experiment with his palette! Can't wait until my first Illamasqua experience!
Love, hugs and shoes...Angie
wow... seriously, you need to stop doing reviews ;)lol you just have a way of making everything so irresistable!!Haha I am soooo a sucker for eyeshadows that actually look good.sooo many eyeshadow look wonderful in the packaging but then you put them on and they are flat and yuk and dirty looking. So these sound promising.Love their slogan! and the company looks so elegant!Thank you for the review!
Tan is Love
I think that may be a little too red for me :-)
I have seen this company before, I love their website. They have one of the best makeup websites I have been to. Their products all look so beautiful but are a little bit on the expensive side. I believe they are at some Sephora's now if I remember correctly. Maybe I can track them down and try them out
Wow, I love their website! I wish I could pull off some of those looks.
You sure got me looking at some new products. This is a review to get the ole juices running again!

Ohhh I adore Dita Von Teese's beautiful, sultry and sexy look! I have many many red lipsticks and nail-polishes that I use to try to recreate her effortless sass, but alas I'm a little too tan to really pull it off. :DThanks for letting us know about these amazing products! It's a pity they're all part of Sephora's range and we can't access them here [hrumph!] but I live in hope this will change sometime soon!
This line looks fantastic!! I am especially loving the sound of the lippies you purchased... Lovely :)
You sold me on the copper eyeshadow. I will have to write the name down because I know I just pronounced it wrong in my head. I love that it came elegantly packaged. Sounds like a great line to give gifts from.
great line. i love red lips. although finding the right shade is difficult, i think it gives a classic look. i love it.
Ooh, that is a gorgeous red!
Wow, that is one intense red lipstick! I've never tried a red lip before because I don't have the guts to pull it off, and there's never been an appropriate occasion to try one.
Wow what an intense red! The review was very interesing and the makeup looks great.
Wow, the hilighter you reviewed sounds so great. I always wear a hilighter under my brow bone and in the inner corner of my eyes. This is something I would love to have.

I really enjoyed reading this longer post! I burn my credit cards up too, especially now that I am a meghead...also a sucker for a good eyeshadow and love that it accentuates your eyes. I have to say that I have yet to try this brand and am going to visit the website on friday(payday)!!! I think I'll justify a purchase by saying I need to update with new fall colors...thanx!
;) Gloss & Gum <3
I can not pull of a red lip but i will look into the neutrals.
wow, looks like a gorgeous line! I have yet to really try and rock out a red lipstick but I am getting braver!
I am also scared to attempt a red lip, I've just never found a color that would work on me in a darker or brighter shade. Help! There are so many celebrity looks that I would love to recreate. The gorgeous Eva Gardner being probably my ultimate but really anything that is old Hollywood I just love. Kevyn Aucion is also an amazing makeup artist and he recreates amazing looks and shows you how in his books and makes it easy to do.
Style may be on the surface, but you can be deep and still have some - Clarissa Gough
This is a brilliant product line! The lipsticks, lipglosses and blushes (both cream and powder) are spectacular. The eyeshadows, not so much. I'm loving the Rich Liquid Foundation...it takes a bit of tweaking and application practice to make it look perfect, but it's the best full coverage foundation i've ever tried. Your skin will look inhumanly flawless, it stays put forever, and totally controls oil breakthrough.
Jayne: I am SO glad you posted about the foundation,it's on my "must try" list and I've heard that many pros LOVE it!!! I'm all ober it now, thanks!
Great review!I just checked them out on the Sephora website and their stuff looks so pretty, I love the packadging. The cake eyeliner looks cool, I like the idea of it, solves the problem of liquid liners drying out.
Excellent, i use a lot of lip sticks and have not found the one i like.
Mjsred: Fantastic that you'll be trying this foundation..I think you'll love it! However, here's a couple of caveats, based on my experience with the product. It's EXTREMELY thick and stiff in consistency, and consequently, very difficult to work with. You probably will want to thin it out before application. I use a dime sized amount of primer mixed in with a pencil eraser sized amount of the foundation, because it's super concentrated. It's also very matte, so sometimes I'll add a pump of Face Atelier's Ultra Sheer shimmer liquid in Champagne to offset the matte-ness and give it a little dimension. I use MAC's 187 brush to stipple and swirl it on. Application takes FOREVER, and just when your arm is about to fall off, then the Illamasqua Miracle takes place...lol! Good luck, and please post your results with the foundation. :-)
My Sephora won't have them for another year. I'm pissed.
That's a beautiful red lipstick! I hear a lot about Illamasqua being the "new MAC, but better". I never took the plunge with MAC, however, because I don't feel like really bold colors work well with my features, but I will be testing this in Sephora when I have a chance! Thanks for sharing :]
xoxo
It looks like a really high-quality brand. I have to order from them one day. The prices are a bit high though... But I don't think you can be disappointed in this one, can you?
That red looks amazing. Definitely channeling some 50 screen sirens there :)
Lily - Mineral makeup Junkie!!!
I want that red. If I had that red, I'd start wearing red lipstick all the time again!
