MAGIC OF ALOE - SATIN SHIELD

Wed, 09/02/2009 - 11:48am
  • Face

MagicOfAloeMissRo here! Now, everyone knows the benefits of Aloe Vera. If you don't, here's the low-down:

  1. Pamper yourself to a soothing body rub. Slice aloe leaves lengthwise and use the inner sides as a biodegradable body scrub in the shower.
  2. Treat burns from minor mishaps in the kitchen—from grease splatters or hot utensils.
  3. For more major kitchen mishaps like a scald, mix some aloe gel and vitamin E oil into a little jar for a homemade burn healer.
  4. Banish black and blue bruises by swapping on the good goo.
  5. Soothe and heal sunburns the feel-good way. Aloe contains cooling properties similar to menthol.
  6. Take the sting or itch out of insect bites.
  7. Reduce tissue damage from frostbite.
  8. Alleviate mysterious rashes.
  9. Make feet baby soft with an exfoliating foot mask by mixing together a half cup of oatmeal, a half cup of corn meal, four tbsp. of aloe vera gel and a half cup of unscented body lotion.
  10. Help heal herpes outbreaks.
  11. Fight Athlete’s Foot.
  12. Swab over blisters for quick relief.
  13. Use as an antidote to allergic skin reactions.
  14. Replace creams and lotions as a general moisturizer for dry skin. Aloe is fast absorbing!
  15. Prevent pesky pimples and treat acne.
  16. Soothe Psoriasis.
  17. Prevent scarring and stretch marks.
  18. Help rid of Rosacea.
  19. Shrink warts.
  20. Reverse signs of aging skin and wrinkles. Cleopatra did!
  21. Help eliminate Eczema.
  22. Brighten skin. Aloe can decrease pigmentation and dark spots.
  23. Make skin new again with an exfoliating, organic sugar scrub by mixing together two tbsp. of aloe vera, 2 tbsp. of organic brown sugar and 1 tsp. of organic lemon juice.
  24. For rougher patches mix together an organic salt skin scrub using two cups of sea salt, one cup of aloe vera, one cup of organic coconut oil and two tbsp. of local, organic honey.
  25. Speed up hair growth by massaging aloe into the scalp, letting it sit for 30 minutes, and rinsing.
  26. Reduce hair dandruff by mixing aloe vera juice with coconut milk and wheat germ oil. Massage into scalp and rinse.
  27. Replace aloe with conditioner for silkier, smoother hair.
  28. Remove eye makeup... and the list goes on!

(Source - 40 Amazing Uses for Aloe Vera!)

Well, how about using it as a face primer under your foundation?!

Magic of Aloe's Satin Shield is a silky lotion made with aloe vera, mica, jojoba esters, and sunflower seed oil...that's it! A little goes a long way, so you only need a tiny bit to smooth over your face after you apply your moisturizer. You don't even have to wait a second before you can start applying your foundation.

Not only is it a face primer, but you can use it as a body lotion, or even a hair gloss after you blow dry your hair. So essentially, it's a 3-in-1 product.

I have used my fair share of primers and even though I don't wear foundation everyday, when I do this is the primer I use.

You can purchase your Magic of Aloe Satin Shield here.

Do you use face primers? And, if you do which brand do you use and why?

I use Monistat Anti-Chafing Powder Gel as my face primer.  I sometimes use Avon Magix because it has SPF, but the Monistat is thinner so it's easier for me to blend in.Someone on the Everyday Minerals forum posted about using aloe vera gel to wetline her minerals!  Aloe vera is also good to drink for an upset stomach!

I use a powder oil control primer under my mineral makeup--thankfully I don't really need anything more heavy duty than that. Aloe is a wonder product, though. I remember growing up my mom's friends always had aloe plants in their kitchens for those inevitable cooking battle wounds :D

I second the use of anti-chafing gel...sounds weird but it has what you need in it. Besides it's purpose is to protect the skin.As for the aloe vera gel I would think the plant form would be way too sticky to use as a primer. This product adds enough other emollients to make it usable for that. I wouldn't recommend straight up aloe for a primer.

I am in love with my Kumaara primer so I never even thought about using it for that.  I do...however LOVE aloe and any product that embraces its naturally enhancing properties.  I used my Magic of Aloe lotion at night and woke up with super soft and NOT oily skin.  This is a big test for me as I tend to roll around a lot and get hot when I sleep which makes me wake up like an oil slick.  You truly need very, very little to soak into your skin.I'll try it as a primer tomorrow and report back results!!!!

Love, hugs and shoes...Angie

I usually wear a face primer or else my makeup is a shiny, gooey mess in about 2.5 hours. The only primer I've loved is Cosmedicine's mattifying face sunblock, but it's pretty expensive. So I end up using whatever random one I have on hand.I love aloe gel though! For my face moisturizer, I just mix some tea tree oil in with a glob of pure aloe gel. It works great!

You need to check out their website.  Free samples and all you pay is shipping-$3.95, not bad.  It looks like a very comprehensive line and their masks are calling my name. This product is a cross between a gel-like lotion and a high end primer.  I like it better as a primer than a moisturizer, it's not quite enough to cover my dreaded KP.  If you don't have KP this chit would be divine.  As a primer, it keeps my makeup looking great with zero irritation.  Works equally well under my liquid foundation as it does under my new fave: Everyday Minerals (mineral makeup).   I love the way it feels as it glides on my face, it's a very cool product.

Wow!  Who knew there were so many uses for Aloe Vera?  I used to have a plant - but then over the years, I lost my green thumb.  I try to leave plants alone so that they can live.  But now, I realize I must try again!  I have been using the Monistat chafing gel stuff as a primer since I read about it here.  It works great and is so inexpensive!  But recently I received the UD facial primer from Meg, so I've been giving that a whirl.  Love it too.  So now I use whichever I'm in the mood for - or whichever my hand grabs out of the drawer first.  I could see me using the satin shield as a body lotion.  In fact, I want some right now.

I'm a little weird about primers. The first one I ever tried broke me out (Smashbox Photo Finish primer, I loathe you!!!). I've also tried Kumaara, Korres and Lorac's primers--all of which are a little spendy, are nice products, but didn't hide my pores as much as I'd hoped. And I just received this Magic of Aloe Satin Shield in the mail and can't wait to try it!UPDATE: I tried it and it's nice! But it is silicone based, so I have to cleanse my skin thoroughly to prevent breakouts.

I received this from Meg. It's a pretty good product. I don't love it as a primer - it makes my foundation look like it's sitting on top of something and it doesn't make it blend well. I use a cream foundation though, so that might be why. I do like it as a moisturizer though. It's great for that. It's silky and smooth. It actually reminds me a lot of Smashbox Photo Finish primer texture wise.

I used an aloe-based gel from Jason Naturals as a facial moisturizer for years. My skin requires something a little more moisturizing now, but I still use the gel to soothe minor injuries and irritations.I don't use a primer, though. I find that if I use a moisturizer that agrees with my skin, I can get away with just blotting and adding a dusting of finishing powder over my mineral makeup once or twice a day. I switched to minerals to avoid slathering so much stuff all over my face, so using a primer would be counterproductive for me.

I'll put them on for special occasions, even though I still don't feel like it makes a noticeable difference, it makes me feel like I'm putting in a little more effort.  I will use Avon Magix sometimes simply for the SPF though.

Aloe Vera truly is a magical thing. I went straight from desk to two weeks working outside in intensive sun, and Aloe Vera slathered on as soon as I got indoors again took away the red just like that. Though I recently learnt that you have to mix a little bit of oil into it to use it as a moisturiser.Used as a face primer alone, you have to be careful to use just a little bit since otherwise it will sort of lay itself as a second skin on your face, prone to flaking and whatnot. Not nice! Though if used in the right amount, it really does make your skin silky smooth. And as you say, for every kind of itch try Aloe Vera. ;)

MisssRo!  That was an awesome list of Aloe magic you listed here!  As far back as the 80's I had an aloe plant growing in the window just in case there was an emergency with my family that required immediate access to Aloe!I will admit, the texture of this Aloe Satin Shield is like liquid silk for just an instant and then before you can blink an eye, it's already absorbed into your skin!  I did try it as a makeup primer and it is quite lovely but at $55.00 a container I will be sticking with my Monistat Chafing Relief Power-Gel at less than $8.00 a tube. This is a luxury item treat for me and every single time I put it on my face or hands or anywhere - I just can't get over how intoxicating silky it is when it goes on your skin!  When I put it on my hands I immediately have to go up to somebody/anybody and say..."You gotta feel my skin right now!"  It makes your skin feel as soft as a baby's bottom and ladies...those little babies are about as soft as it gets so that's quite an endorsement!  It really REALLY creates the ultimate smooth surface for makeup or just for having dreamy smooth areas of skin!

Its so awesome to see all these great uses for Aloe. I was recently invited to a Aloette party, which is a makeup skin/bodycare line made purely with Aloe in everything. Now I see what the rave was about some of their products. My aunt also had a aloe plant growing up and living in the desert meant we had a lot of sunburns in the summer. Miracle for that but now I want one of my own for all the other benefits. If it does moisturize and prime then its the primer for me since all other primers make my skin too dryand then my pores produce extra oil to compensate and thats the last thing I need. Thanks for the great info :)

We used to have lots of aloe plants all around the house, but I don't know what happened to them...As for face primers, I don't really use them. Most of the ones I've tried have either broken me out or made my foundation look weird. I really like Everyday Minerals Kaolin Powder (or something like that) though, but it's too drying if I use it every day.

I just use my lightly tinted moisturizer as a face primer. I don't like to layer too many products because then they start feeling heavier and heavier.I do like to use a primer on my eyes though - MAC Paint Pot in Painterly or Too Faced Lockdown Eyeshadow with Shadow Insurance in it.

Woah! I had no idea it could do all that! I don't use a face primer at the moment but I would love to buy this! I am also going to share this list with my mom! She'll love it!
