REAL MEN AND WOMEN USE SHOWERCAPS!

Jeanasina here! Hello ladies of the shower generation! I'm here to talk about shower caps! You know what I'm talking about (at least a lot of you should)...those pink, light blue, sometimes white, plastic shower caps that fit on your head nice and snug! Sometimes they even provide them free in hotels for your showering enjoyment! It usually has an extremely unattractive piece of nasty elastic around the edge to keep it on your head and to keep the humid moisture off of your hair! The elastic and the plastic are sewn tight against the edge. They do that so the 'scratchy' edge will remind you that you are wearing the cap so you won't accidentally leave the bathroom and mindlessly go outside to get the mail with it on! The neighbors would be saying “OM MY GOSH – HAROLD! WILL YOU LOOK AT LULU OUTSIDE IN HER SHOWER CAP!” Just so you know,I'm wearing mine now as I type this so I can take one for the team...The Shower Cap wearing team. Nothing says “I'm getting my freak on!” like sitting naked on a desk chair in front of my computer with a plastic shower cap pulled down tight over my cranium! I'm not saying I'm actually doing that though.
Back in the old days when I was young, all women wore shower caps! Man, we had some well coiffed hairstyles and they were meant to last for several days! You paid a lot of money for a stiff flip or Grecian curls on the top of your head! No way – would you take a full on shower and allow the water to damage your wind proof tower of hair! I remember one of my hairstyles for a prom (apparently that's an old people's word these days). Anyway, I had curls on top of my head AND the biggest, hardest, crunchiest FLIP imaginable! Oh honey, I had a hat head the likes of you have never seen! When I think back to that occasion all I can think of now is...HOW THE HELL COULD MY DATE STAND DANCING SLOW WITH ME AND PUTTING HIS FACE RIGHT ON MY ROCK HARD MEGA HAIRSPRAYED FLIPPED UP HAIR? That just about kills me to think of it!
If your date tried to run his hand through your hair two things happened...he got his hand stuck and you yelled “Don't! Don't mess up my hair!”
Years later nobody wore them – it just wasn't done! You tied your hair up on top of your head if you didn't want to get it wet and if you had short hair, well, you'd try to aim the shower as low as possible to keep your hair dry. For awhile nobody would be caught dead wearing a shower cap! People would snicker if they caught you and then tell all their friends! Total geek or elder person were just about the only people who wore them anymore.
Well somewhere along the line, I apparently started wearing a shower cap again. There is one in my bathroom and I know it doesn't belong to my Harley Husband so I must have brought it with me when we moved in together! I don't have the actual memory of purchasing a shower cap but I use the thing.
It's not attractive to look at and it sure isn't attractive on my head! When did I go back to covering my hair up with that thing when I shower now?
You can attempt to cute up your act by purchasing a funky fun shower cap with flowers, dots, lips, bows and all kinds of crazy decorations on them! I saw them priced from 1.00 to $34.99 on-line! As absolutely unforgiving shower caps can be in the 'looking good' department, apparently at least one famous person thinks shower caps are a 'look' to be seen in! I read an article on the Internet and there as clear as day in a photo was Rapper Snoop Dogg arriving in Paris, France wearing a bright blue shower cap! It was his headgear of choice that day!
So honey, if he can go to Paris in a shower cap and it looked like it wasn't a high price model – well maybe I should give my shower cap a little more respect and not feel it is such a downer on my looks whenever I put it on to shower! Maybe I'm actually smokin' hot with this thing on! I think Blair Waldorf on Gossip Girl might have a very upper crust shower cap! I'd love to see it wouldn't you?! It's probably got a big bow on it or maybe a pearl broach!
I have a friend who flew to New York to spend a sizzling weekend with an attorney she knows. Up front this guy was all suits and a flashy car. He had a beautiful apartment and liked to eat a fine restaurants. Her first day there, he said “I'm going to go take a shower before we go out.”. She sat waiting for him to come out of the bathroom. When he did, he was lifting weights in one hand, placing Crest white strips on his teeth with the other while wearing a pink shower cap pulled tight over his hair! My friend said she couldn't stop laughing and it pretty much killed the mood of the much anticipated romantic evening for her. She can't even talk about it without splitting a gut with laugher! He didn't like the fact that she thought he looked hysterical and told her he didn't want to mess up his hair or get it wet! She said he went from a possible 10 to a 1 in seconds flat on her date meter! So there you have it! All kinds of people use shower caps!
Tell me about yours ladies!

I love my shower cap! It's clear with blue stripes, and it does it's job well. I used to wash my hair everyday, sometimes twice a day. I ended up stripping my hair, it was terrible. I finally weaned myself from lathering up daily, and now have it down to every other day or more. As a result, my hair is super soft and less oily (it had to rev up oil production to replace the oil that I was stripping from my head). My shower cap comes in handy at night. You see, while I don't wash my hair every day, I do shower twice a day, and who wants to go to bed with wet hair? But I can tell you one thing, I don't look nearly as cute as that girl at the top of the page with her super cute shower cap...
fatcat - I have often wondered if me washing my hair daily actually causes the oiliness I get when I miss a wash. I want to try washing my hair less but am nervous about it. I have a shower cap that I use for when I need to wash off and I have already washed my hair for the day. It is really handy since I seem to never be able to step into the shower without soaking my hair! It is a pretty basic one, the pic in the blog is adorable though.
That pink striped shower cap was without question the cutest one I came across in my shower cap research journey! It can be found onhttp://www.mimialamode.com/for $29.95! This adorable website has made shower caps one of their specialties!!!!
Jeanasina!
i think i've only worn a shower cap once in my entire lifetime and it wasn't pretty like the one that's featured above. it was just a clear one. i just love washing my hair! and that story about the guy wearing a shower cap is hilarious. i can't even imagine a boyfriend or even my dad wearing one because they're guys! they shouldn't care TOO much about their hair hahaha!

I'm definitely on the don't-wash-every-day bandwagon. My hair is far less oily, and it really holds the style better, whether it's flat-ironed or blown dry. Sometimes I will skip the shampoo but condition only, rinsing well. That gives me wonderful results, so long as I don't leave the conditioner on for a long time. Say, it just occurs to me that I posted a Chit-Chat piece a week or so back about how I don't wash my face in the a.m., just splash water and go. Now I'm wondering if someday soon I will be scrawling my comments on the sidewalks as I lay in the gutter! C'est la vie!Oh, and Jeanasina -- my fantasy mother, Esther Williams, always wore the most bee-youtiful caps, bathing and shower. If I rummage long enough in my sister's attic, I'll bet I can come up with a vintage dandy.
I too am a loyal shower cap wearing person(lol) because I wash my hair every other day to keep the natural oils in my frizzy hair. That is hilarious about your friend I think that is kinda nice because he was secure enough to wear that with her around and not feel it compromised his manhood, well done!

I don't care what anyone says......SHOWER CAPS ARE FREAKING AWESOME!I used my first shower cap a couple of years ago. My mother had bought some and gave me one. I was a busy college student, and appreciated it. I hadn't ever used a shower cap, but I gave it a try. I have curly very frizz prone hair. So I thought it was a great idea. It really keeps moisture off of your hair. The kind my mom had bought was lined in like a soft terry material. So it really keeps any and all moisture off. I love to use them especially when I have straightened my mess of curls into a sleek straight style. The kind she gave me was a cute white one with a cute (not granny like) blue floral pattern on it. I say showercaps are a definite must have! I think every lady and gent should at least own one!
I wear a shower cap at least once a week...and my hubby laughs at me every time! :^O It's just a cheap one got while staying at a hotel and I have had it for 3 years.
i am not the one to take showes, im a bath girl, so i dont really have a need for shower cap... i actually had one- and i used it when i colored my hair, to prevent the color from dripping on my clothes and body....
I have never worn a shower cap!! iam sorry everybody!! =D .. although that one in the picture is kinda cute!! haha And you are very right about people not really useing them any more.. there are only a few little old ladies who come in for there weekly sets at the salon i work at!!! ... That is a cute story about your friend and iam sure ANY body would do that same thing!! Iam just thinking about if that was me and my boyfriend walked out with a shower cap on... OH MAN!! haha
I don't use shower caps either. If I don't want to wash my hair, I just pull it all up in a pony tail or a high bun. I don't really mind if it gets a little bit wet. I do remember the first time I saw a free shower cap at a hotel. I had never used one before, so I was excited to test it out! d:
i don't use them, but i do need one for when i don't want to get my hair wet and then have to straighten my hair again
LOL - what a great review! I bought a shower cap a while ago, it's light blue with snow flakes on it. Very cute! But I don't wear it, not even sure why I bought it. I think it was one of those things it's on sale, what a great price but I have no use for it. LOL... At least my Mother does use it when she comes to visit. If I don't want wash my hair, same thing just make a high ponytail or a high bun. I think if my husband came out of the bathroom like your friends lawyer guy. I would definitly crack up! Great story!
I don't use them to protect my hair from water when its dry, I use them to do my deep conditioners once a week. For like an hour I walk around my house with a shower cap on just doing my thing even if friends are over and they don't mind..I know I look old ladyish because it isn't a fancy one like in the pic above just a plain powder blue one..lol now that I think about it!
;) Gloss & Gum <3
There handy if your putting a hot oil treatment in your hair to keep it out of your face-but the scrachy band does bug me.The man in the shower cap story-mood killer...He wasn't one for keeping a sense of mystery lmao.

nooo i hate shower caps! the one i had was pink with a bunny on it. i used to wear it when i was younger. the way the water splashes everywhere and the pat pat sound the water makes on the cap bothers me.
I have a purple shower cap that I can't live without. Because my hair is so thick I can't wash it everyday otherwise it will be a dry mess. Shower caps are a staple in my daily routine.
I wear my shower cap with pride its blue with flowers on :-) !!!I have long hair I put it in a ponytail and put my shower cap on every time I shower or my hair will get wet and I'm not washing it everyday !!!Plus my hair is curly and I straighten it so if it even goes into a damp atmosphere it goes wavy and a mess :-( !!!It does feel a bit rough though maybe I should buy a new one as I can't live without it now !!!Jeanasina I had to laugh at that Bouffant Shower Cap !!!!
I have a Hello Kitty shower cap that I bought at the 100-yen shop in Japan. But, I never ever use it! My hair needs to be washed every day.
Awwww how can you not use a hello kitty shower cap :-( Send it to me I'll use it LOL :-)
I have a bright purple shower cap and I love it :) Keeps my hair from getting wet in the shower so what more could I ask for? I once answered my apartment door with my shower cap on and it was my best friend. She said giggling at me and I didnt know why. Then I remembered hehe. I think most people my age don't wear them but they're so practical I love 'em!
I don't wash my hair everyday either. I just pull it up. However I don't have very long hair so it's a challenge to keep it up for my shower. I don't know why the thought of using a shower cap never crossed my mind. Duh! Thanks Jeanasina. I'll stop by Walgreens on my way home and see if I can find a nice pink one.
I love my shower cap!! I only wash my hair about 3 times per week, and my shower cap totally saves my hair! I used to clip it up while in the shower, but the humidity from the hot shower would cause bends & dents & the worst frizzies ever, which then defeated the whole purpose because I would have to straighten it again (and cause so much damage to my hair from all the heat)! Since I started using a shower cap, I can go in the shower with super sleek hair and come out the same! One of my necessities by far..
Yes same here Megan141 and I was mine 3 times a week too :-)
I am an avid shower cap user! I wash my hair every other day, so on the in-between days- you guessed it, a shower cap. I actually own three of them. One is for putting over hair masques or deep conditioning treatments, and then I have one in each of my two bathrooms. They are lifesavers, as I have naturally wavy hair that frizzes at the mere mention of humidity. I really love the picture with this post. I think you've inspired me to find a more upscale cap.

I don't use shower caps, but 1) I probably should, and 2) there is no shame in using them! It's not all that great for your hair to wash it every day anyway, and with a cap you can still get the rest of you nice and clean. I usually just put mine up in a bun but then I still have to be careful about how I move so my hair doesn't get wet. I need a shower cap!
I have three shower caps.. hot pink, light pink, and purple. My hair is super thick and long, so it takes forEVER to dry.. If I wash it at night it's not dry until at least mid-day the next day, if that. It doesn't start looking good until the day after I wash it, and looks great up to 3 days later. It's also dry so I try not to wash it until I need to. On the off days I use my shower caps! I put my hair up in a clip an then slap on a cap (the hot pink is my fave). Occasionally I'll use them when I have a deep conditioner in my hair, just to lock it in that much more. The only thing that sucks about them-- the elastic leaves a red ring all the way around my forehead! I don't know if I should have gotten one that has some sort of fabric on the inside of the band so that it wouldn't leave a mark or what, but it takes a good half hour to fade.
I think shower caps are awesome, well other then that elastic that leaves a mark they are awesome! I don't have a shower cap at the moment but I do need one! I would love to find a hello kitty cap like someone mentioned!

i dont have one!!!! what ! I know it is an outrage. I have long very thick hair too, just like you hrhtracey and it also takes aaaaages to dry, but since i live in Florida I dont mind the nice coolingness of wet hair flapping, lol. I do need a shower cap though dont I. It really is a must have, esp that cute one above! I do the same as moon8305 "I usually just put mine up in a bun but then I still have to be careful about how I move so my hair doesn't get wet. I need a shower cap!" but it makes my curls go all frizzy.. no likey. Must get showercapp
makeup makeup makeup!!!!!!!
I loved the Sephora brand shower cap. It has a wide band which held tight and was pretty comfy, plenty of room for the ponytail and lasts forever. Well, one day before forever. No matter how well the cap is hung to air dry, eventually it took on a musty odor, probably because of the fabric in the elastic band. So I bit the bullet and threw it away. BEFORE I bought another one. So I am currently using a fine 2.69 version from Safeway. It isn't as big, isn't as comfy and the narrow band doesn't keep the water off my hair as well as the Sephora version. Lest you think I am using it to keep my beehive alive, I just don't want to wash my hair every day any more. And now that it is shoulder length, there is all that drying time. I do wash the bangs everyday because you just can't have everything. Try ebay for the Hello Kitty shower cap.
hehehehe!me and my fiance wore shower caps to "do rudeys" once (we were staying at a hotel and were about to go out to dinner my hair was washed and straightened so i didnt want to wet it-but i refused to be the only one in a shower cap so i made him wear one too!) it didnt go to well i seem to recall lots of giggling and lots of shower cap scrunchy sounds!!! ( I dont know why we didnt just use the bed????!!!) hahahah still makes me laugh now!!!but on a more serieous note i like shower caps its so diffcult trying to shoer without wetting your hair! i want a pretty one like in the picture i have only ever seen the cheap ugly plastic ones from hotels!
I just got a new cute shower cap from TJ Max that has a lot of cute french on it :] LOVE! And what an appropriate post :) I think theres definitely stigma agaiinst it being "un-cute" but I don't care! I have long thick hair and I'd rather not wash it every single day (it's terrible for my hair!!)
xoxo
Jeanasina, omg, after that description, I am DYING to see a photo of your prom hair! :P Also, I just had to see that picture of Snoop Dog in a shower cap--so here it is, ladies! http://justjared.buzznet.com/2007/03/20/snoop-dogg-shower-cap/I dunno about a guy wearing a shower cap. If it takes a guy longer than 5-10 minutes to dry/style his hair, then it takes him longer than it takes me to do mine (okay okay, I should spend a little more time on my hair, but STILL!).I've only used a shower cap on a few occasions, but my grandma has used one for years. My hair used to be so oily that it needed regular washing (and no, going without washing did not help unfortunately... every body is different!) But now that I'm on Accutane, it might be a good idea to use one! My hair is just long enough that it does get a little wet in the shower. And if it were a really really cute shower cap... with Hello Kitty on it... well then, it'd be a done deal! :P

.... I still like it when my hair is crunchy and rock solid...Lol Wind, Rain, Hurricane proof hair ROCKS!!!Lol mabey I should invest in a shower cap....Hey I have curly hair... and frizz is almost impossible to avoid...And yes I still scream "Don't mess up my hair" when someone tries to touch it!!!LolLol

I must confess I do not use a shower cap. Sometimes when I put a deep conditioning treatment on for longer than 10 minutes I put my hair in a hair turban. But I shower everyday so it's not really necessary for me to use a shower cap. And I'm pretty sure I would have been made of fun severely in my college days if I ever sported a shower cap.
I love my plain clear shower cap. I don't like to wash my hair very often because it gets dried out. My boyfriend just laughs at me, but I don't care! I thinks it better then the plastic bag I was using before.
I wash my hair about twice a week. I have very thick and long hair and it's very time consuming to wash my hair everyday. Shower caps ARE MY FRIEND! I take a shower daily so I have to use my shower cap to keep my hair from getting wet. I don't care if it is styled or not... I just don't like getting my hair wet if it's not shampoo day.
I have to admit I don't use a shower-cap at all, and tend to throw my hair up on the top of my head when I don't want my hair to get wet.In my experience, shower caps can get a bit on the nose after a few months use - it just starts to smell like dirty hair, and I can't help but think that all of those oils that are in my hair are being imparted onto the cap, and are then permeating every time I put it on my head!So that's that, really. Once a tie-upper, always a tie-upper I would think. Power to you shower-cap wearers, though! :D
I wish I could have a reason for owning a shower cap, but I am one of those people that has crazy greasy hair. I don't know if it's from over washing or what my deal is, but my hair is way too oily. Sigh. I've even tried washing less to make it better, but nope, didn't help. Oh well, I am so envious of you ladies and your shower caps.
I'm not a user of shower caps but the one shown in the picture is super cute! That alone may make me a reformer! Shower caps to me are just something my aunt gave as a gift one Christmas that she probably grabbed on a clearance rack at the dollar tree.
I have always always used a shower cap since I was a little girl. My hair is obscenely thick (my stylist had to mix 2 extra bowls of color while doing my foils yesterday) and I have very dry skin, so minimal hair washing is necessary. I have used all kinds, cheap hotel ones, caps from my grandmother and now I have a Hello Kitty one too. I think I got it at the sanrio store. You can also buy packs of cheap ones at Dollar Tree, that have about 8 caps in them half pink and half clear, I use those for deep conditioning treatments and used them when I dyed my hair brown myself regularly. This also totally reminds me of the one time I went to summer camp as a kid. I forgot to pack a shower cap and made my best friend tie a plastic grocery bag around my head for the sans hair washing showers I took. The other girls in our bunk thought we were sooooo weird. Other than that one time I have never been self-conscious of my shower cap use. I am interested in one lined with terry cloth. How much of a difference does it make from a regular one? Anyone tried both kinds?
Love and Lipgloss,
Kathryn

Eep, I didn't know that using a showercap was totally uncool! Although, I guess I might have gotten a sense of that from how few of my friends use them. I for one, love showercaps. I have long, thick hair that I can't wash everyday, and bundling my hair up never fails to leave me with damp hair. Showercaps are also awesome for when I use a face mask and don't want to get any gunk in my hair.As for showercap vogue, I just use the cheap disposable ones that hotels give out. :\ They do the job though!
lol! i think that's a little too much for shower caps. My shower caps are relatively.. Bland. Nothing fancy! but my mum's always searching to buy some "pretty" shower caps. i've always used shower caps until now, which is weird because now is the only time i've ever had long hair and for some strange reason i just stopped using shower caps :\
Lily =o)http://lazyscorner.blogspot.com/
I love my showercap! It's sage green with a retro print, I got it at BBW. I got 5 of them during a semi-annual sale, so I always have extra ones. I use it to keep moisture off my hair when showering or bathing, and also to help my deep conditioner penetrate and work better.
I like shower caps for when I've done my hair or had it done and don't want to wash it right away. I don't have any kind of fancy one, though, just the cheap ones you get free at hotels or whatever.
That post was so FUNNY the prom part made me laught cause it's so true! my man LOVES to touch my hair and I love it too but....why does he always want to touch my hair when I spent 2 hours trying to make it looks OK???Now about the shower CAPs I totally wear them I hate FLAT hair like really hate and the warm water on my thin and long hair make it FLAT in 2 seconds !!!! it's absolutly not SEXY even with BOWS or DIAMONDS after shower everytime I look at myself in the mirroir i have to laught I look bald with jumbo ears ( I put mu shower cap behind my ears not on top of my ears lol). What's also funny it's that I have a Hello Kitty Cap and I don't even reember buying it neither lol....
Hollywood http://thehollywoodheels.blogspot.com
Hahaha. This was hilarious- very nicely written. I actually do not own nor have I ever- except the ones from the Hotel when I am being silly. To quote Kramer "I take Baths" I want time to relax even if it's just a 10 minute soak- I want my "alone time" as my son calls it. (He recognizes that he needs alone time too) I have 4 kids and we live in a very small house- so we all need a little break from each other sometimes! So my bath is my relaxation- showers drive me batty- it's just too rushy rushy. That is a really cute cap in the photo though!!!
Jeanasina - you slay me every time!!! The guy lifting weights as he showers with the crest strips and the shower cap - that should be a scene in a movie. I swear truth is funnier than fiction.I love a shower cap - but I like those hideous plastic ones they give you in hotel bathrooms. All my friends know that if they stay in a hotel, they have to bring back the shower cap. I'm with Shaybear - they get a little smelly after a while - so I like to use them for a couple of days and toss. Just thinking - not very environmentally friendly of me....
No shower caps for me usually. The only time i wear any type of shower cap is when i'm doing deep hair conditioners.....If i wore a shower cap my hair would be unbelievably knotty and unruly (it's very long and curly)!I do, however, appreciate the beauty of some of them. I think they are absolutely kitchy/cute/adorable. I always think of little old ladies in their old fashioned bathing suits wearing their swimming hats--and think...aww how cute!
I also wear a shower cap!!! Love mine, although mine is NOT cute!! I have long thick hair and only wash 3-4 times a week, if I didnt wear one the humidity in the shower would make my hair a frizzy mess!!!
