ALIEN SKIN CREATURES ARE NO MATCH FOR MY DERMATOLOGIST!

Jeanasina here! A few days ago I went to my dermatologist a.k.a. Dr. I-Can-Remove-All-Travesties-On-Your-Skin-With-The-Use-Of-Diabolical-Implements! I have a really great and well known dermatologist that I trust implicitly and go to for all skin issues. I have about 10 friends who also think he is the best of the best! He's honest, direct and if you want something taken care of , he's on it. If you have an unusual skin growth, without hesitation, he will open up his shirt and say “Look! I have one of those too!” and then assures you that it's nothing but he can remove it if you want to get it off. He told me that he has one patient that comes in once a year with about 50 growths on his back and all he ever wants is for the doctor to LOOK at them and make sure they are not cancerous. Satisfied that they are still healthy growths, he goes back home again. Not once has he ever said he wanted them OFF! Well ladies, I can tell you, that I don't like 'things' growing under my skin. I touch them obsessively and worry them unconsciously and check the size of them daily!
As you know, I recently lost my job so before my insurance runs out I thought I better go see my skin guy so I can have him get hacking on the various types of barnacles and other atrocities that seem to have been mysteriously growing on my body over night! I came to my appointment armed with a child like drawing of myself on which I had drawn DOTS all over it starting with my face all the way to behind my knees so he wouldn't miss even one of those skin interlopers! Every day that I checked my skin and found anything new, I would add a dot to my drawing to indicate the exact location of the 'skin creature' lurking in those spots. I wanted all those suckers OFF OF ME and I wanted to be sure I wouldn't forget about even one of them! I brought to his surgical table a combination of melia and non-cancerous skin growths!
He looked at my stick figure drawing with the big head and proceeded to work from the bottom to the top of me! I had a couple of small growths behind my knees as well as those pesky melia which had hidden there for some time. The worst was my forehead, just under my hairline – there were about 8 skin growths on one side of my forehead and about 5 on the other and of course a couple right about center on my forehead! I even had a little growth on my hand! I had 2 small and one marble size melia on my eye lid! The worst scream worthy discovery was that I had one growth inside my ear! Somebody kill me! My girlfriend looked at it and said “Holy Shit!”
Anyway, with the help of my doctor's lovely understanding nurse, who's hand I held for dear life, one by one I allowed my doctor to excise the devil creatures that had grown on my skin! He had three methods of treatment for my beautification enjoyment! The first was Liquid Nitrogen used to FREEZE the skin lumps that he felt would die and fall off eventually (these were not warts he told me). The 2nd was removal of the melia. For the melia he takes a razor like object and says in a firm voice “DO NOT MOVE!!!!” Then he makes a slit in the center of the melia and then uses a needle to eject the sand like pebble living inside the melia! Allow me to tell you that as I lay prone on his surgeon's platform and just as he was coming towards MY EYELID with his horror show metal objects – I was making a keening sound as I clung to his nurses hand! I am so squeamish about my eyes so knowing he was going to make a slit in the eyelid...SOOOO absolutely out of my comfort zone!!!! The third and most un-fun portion of my appointment was when he got out the Novocaine needle and stuck in my hairline! “HOLY SHIT!” I'm pretty sure I said that! Then he numbed the thing up and used his burning stick to kill the thing on my head. My story was just about over when I realized he was going to stick the Novocaine needle inside my ear so he could burn that lump of badness living in there! At that point I really started to sweat and the very idea of a needle in my ear was more than I could tolerate but he kept saying “You want that thing out don't you?” I said, “Yes” with trembling lips. Then...well, I think his nurse is probably in the hospital because I'm pretty sure I TORE HER ARM OFF the minute he put that needle in my ear!
When he was done, his nurse used several cloths dipped in blood stopping coagulant so I wouldn't be bleeding all over his office. I sat up, white as a sheet and shook his hand and THANKED HIM for removing the spawns of Satan from my skin.
I took the bus home from my appointment and when I got home I looked in the mirror and I can tell you this...the look I am currently sporting CLEARLY tells people that SOMEBODY – a very bad somebody – must have put their cigarettes out on my forehead! That's totally what it looks like! My husband said “Wow Dear – That must have really hurt!” Damn right it did! But as bad as I look, I am SO happy that every one of those things are off of my body! In a month or so all these blisters are going to heal and even if they leave marks - I can handle a mark more than a creepy growth.
I'm going to do a follow-up blog on melia's soon, so stay tuned!
How about you ladies? Does it give you the willies to have something that doesn't belong there on or under your skin?

Wow, what a story! Just by reading cold sweat ran down my forehead, lol. I have a dozen moles, especially on my forearms, which I'd love to have removed. But on the other hand, as they mostly appear only in this area, I also could have them covered with nice tattoos. That's what I'm gonna do instead of getting slaughtered;-). I also have them checked out regularly to make sure everything is ok (growth, shape, etc.) but so far it is. Hope your blisters heal pretty quick!!!

oh my goodness i was totally scared while I read this....especially about your eyelid. that must have been really scary sitting/laying there knowing that one of his little metal objects was going to cut a bit of your eyelid. i too am curious about things on or under my skin that doesn't belong. unfortunately my insurance doesn't cover going to the dermatologist. :(

Jeanasina,I totally understand "freak outs" at the dermatologist. My genetics have blessed me with many moles that only multiply with sun exposure. I don't typically have them taken off unless they are worrisome but I do have the dermatologist check them just in case! On a recent visit Doc set me up with some miracle products, and I have to say, if I have to go to a Dr.'s office thats the one I would rather be at...

holy shit, for reals!!! a sharp razor near my eye---don't think I can handle that!!!Last year, for the better part of the year, I was going to my derm every couple months to get cortisone injections for keloids on my ears (results of ear piercings, and i'm prone to scarring). Basically they stick a needle right in the middle of the keloid (which is still attached to my ear!) and fill it up with as much cortisone fluid as then can get it. On my left lobe especially, I had a ginormous (well...not like golf-ball sized or anything) one that always got people's attention :( ("oh are you ok? did something happen to your ear!!? me: 'nope, just my lovely KELOID'...most people didn't know what keloids were)It was awful because keloids are tough and fibrous little buggers, and on several occasions the dermatologist (or the resident doctors) had trouble actually GETTING THE NEEDLE INTO THE KELOIDS!!! 'Hmmm...that's quite solid let me try a different sized needle'. Then there was the issue of getting the cortisone stuff to stay in the keloid itself since they are pressurized or something. Anyways, it worked for a while, definitely softened them up, but I fear they are making a comeback ever so slightly :( I think I also have some tiny melia on my eyelids, but those don't bother me too much (since they're so small) unless it's impacting my eyeliner application somehow. I've tried to squeeze them out but that only resulted in sore eyelids!
Oh wow. That's a great dermatologist. My family's derm keeps telling my mom to stay out of the sun and EVERY visit she has a sunburn and can't lie that she has had 'minimal' sun exposure. I've never had an experience like yours although my derm gave me miracle cream called Clobetasol that cleared my leathery-gross exema patch! Simply amazing! I love my derm! If I did have any kind of mole of any kind...I would definately have it removed asap!
i wonder if that is available in the uk? I have this really bad on about half of my upper left arm and a little bit on my right arm and i'm really self conscious about it, especially as its summer and the idea is to wear less clothes. I have two draws full of cardies i use as cover ups but it would be nice to not have to worry about it.
i have a cyst on my wrist that makes me crazy. It has been there for years and it makes me worry even though several docs have told me its harmless. It is creepy to have something under your skin that doesn't belong there... I can understand your enthusiasm about getting those things out of your body, congrats! I hope your healing process goes smoothly and you are feeling good!
I have a thingy on my eye lid as well that i'm scared to get removed. I had a bad incident with my eye so i get a bit freaked out.I went to NY and apparently a piece of rusted metal flew into my eye but i didn't know it. The next day when i went to work (i work for an eye doctor) i asked her to look at my eye bc i thought i had pink eye--she said no you have something in there--she tried to get it out and couldn't so she sent me to an associate opthamologist. I went to the optham. and he called my primary care physician who would not give me a referral until he tried to get it out. Needless to say, i went to primary where they numbed my eye and took a long (huge) needle and tried to dig the rusted metal out.....embedding it in deeper and spreading the rust throughout my eye. My aunt had to get up and leave the room bc all you could hear was the needle scraping the metal.....ARGH!!!They could not get it out so i had to go back to optham. and he had to take a divet of my eye out bc my primary had embedded it deeper and now i have a scare on my eyeball......But as for the dermatologist....i really love mine. I go there bc i have melasma and they are going to do a laser on me in the fall. My dermatologist is my patient (at eye drs) and we actually started out emailing eachother and then i went to him for derm work.He is great and so is the aesthetician i go to!!!
Oh Jeanasina... I just got out of the fetal position I was in from cringing at your story! I'm still shaking though. You could be a great horror writer, girl. I get little bumps and things, have had a few removed - but nothing as scary as what you've had done. So far, I haven't had anything really dangerous, but my my Mom and Grandmother both had moles and melia popping up all the time. So I'm watching carefully.

as serious as this post was, i couldn't help but laugh at the way that it was written =] very humorous - especially the stick figure drawingdo melia grow on their own or does something cause their growth? i'm also glad that your doc didn't find anything wrong with the growths and that you're happy with the end result!

OMG what a story haha! I've never actually been to a dermatologist ($$ issues, insurance doesn't really cover it) but I've always been tempted. I haven't had more than the normal couple of pimples though so I don't know if it'd be worth the money.I guess this is a classic case of no pain, no gain? :) Sounds like your skin is going to be a million times better as soon as your skin recovers from the purging!!

Jeanasina, i love your writing. Yes, it sounds funny, but I do get what u go through. From my mom I inherit a whole lot of birthmarks, and they keep coming with summer sun. Every year I get more marks, some more annoying then others, - I was pretty happy to get a cute mark on my cheek but not too happy to get more on my chest... I had milia on my eye when i was in school, and it fell off by itself after 6 months or so... I totally hate some of my marks (yep, i have a couple on my head too- thanks god for hair!) and would love to remove them, but no insurance! It alsoo worries me that i keep getting more and more all over my body, and have no chance of going to the doctor to check them out.
Jeanasina, your story and connemara's made me cringe! OH MY GOODNESS. EWWWW! I'm glad your derm does good work though. Now if only he were in my area...I've only been to the derm to get an rx for Accutane. Eventually I'll have to go in to talk about the scarring (both the raised and indented kinds), but I'm scared to have anything else done. I have a little skin flap on my left eyelid, near the fold of my eyelid, and quite a few milia around both eyes. They drive me absolutely crazy. One time, I tried to mess with one of them, and now I have a raised scar there. Absolutely fabulous (I'm being sarcastic). I'm not going to mess with them anymore myself, and I would love to get them removed, but I don't think I could handle seeing a lance or needle coming at my eye!!!I also have a little wart on my left thumb that only bothers me a little bit, when I remember it's there.

Your one brave woman-I'm a total chicken and your story had me freaking out.I don't know how you didnt keep ducking when he was coming at your eye.Remember when rachel in friends had to get the eyedrops put in and they had to trick her into it-well that's what I'm like.Kudo's to being so aware(stick figure drawing).Hope you feel better soon.

Ganglian cyst or something.I would like to get them all removed... but i dont want to pay for it! my insurance is not so good :(
Tan is Love
That sounds like a scene from a horror movie... I cringed at the though of the needle in the ear and hair line. The nurses always get irritated by me when they need to prick my finger for a blood sample, because I constantly pull my finger away as the last moment. I'm so afraid of pain! I have quite a few moles, and one milia that I want removed, but I've been too scared to commit. I don't know if this article will give me the motivation to get my moles removed, or if it makes me more scared... anyway, I loved this post!
jenasina hope your skin heals quickly and you are happy with the results!I couldnt cope with anything happening to my eyes! cringe!!!what are melia/milia?! x
Yet again on Meg's Makeup, we talk about another elephant in the room. This time it is a discussion on abnormal skin. (It has been my experience not a lot of people are very forthcoming about these issues.) We all have different skin issues and I am grateful that Jenasina was brave enough to bring it all out into the open. Jenasina, I sure hope you are feeling better soon. You are always full of vim and vigor and hope this does not keep you down too long.
I've been to the derm a few times and had things removed. The first time was when I was really young and had a mole removed on my left forearm. I was pretty young so I don't remember why it is that I had to get it removed. I do remember them cutting around it and then sucking it up with what looked like a tiny vacuum cleaner. I also clearly recall how bad it hurt when they stitched me up and then took the stitches out! Ouch! The last time I went was for this annoying mole on my nose. I kept getting pimples underneath it and it freaked me out that the pimple would damage the mole. I hated that mole my whole life so it was a nice excuse to get it removed! What's funny is that by the time the appointment rolled aroundt the pimple was already gone but the derm lied so that my insurance would cover it, tee hee : ) I had been having some bad acne around the time of my appointment and when I went in the nurse looked at me and she asks "Is there ANYTHING ELSE you'd like checked out....?" Ugh, I felt so self-conscious. I said "Sure, I have acne going on too" The derm gave me some stuff for it which I never used, hehe. Does anyone recall that Seinfeld episode when he's dating a dermatologist and he ridicules her because she talks about how fulfilling her job is and that she saves lives. He says something like "She's a pimple popper! She just rubs some aloe on your skin!" And then he meets one of her patients who had skin cancer and he's like "Skin cancer! How could I forget about skin cancer!" Ahh, Seinfeld, the good ol' 90's!
That was a brave and hysterical post! Very entertaining. I had one mole removed, for cosmetic reasons only. It hurt a lot more than I thought it would, though for such a tiny spot. I've certainly done way more painful things in the name of beauty. Right now I'm seriously thinking about getting some Botox for my frown lines. I've been using those Frownies patches for several months now and they definitely work, but it would be nice to get the Botox and be done with it.

Girlfriend, I too have my derm hack any bit of unnecessary growths from my skin! I don't care WHAT it is, it needs to go! Too bad I'm uninsured for a while now, I haven't had a hacking for a year now.I think EVERYONE should get regular derm check-ups - I had a friend who passed in her 40s because of undiagnosed skin cancer. Thanks for the topic Jeanasina!
I dont' think i would like anything sharp around my face, especially around my eyes!!!! (it reminds me of Saw II) shivers.

Jeanasina! Such wonderful fun to see your post... Miss you muchly at the office... OOXX Ah, yes, our fav Doctor Derm! YES, I, too am a fan of this wonderful practitioner, who you describe in such wonderfully entertaining detail. So fitting! I, too, always come from my visits with great results AND great stories...As always, your writing is a HOOT! Who could believe you could write about a derm appt with such humor... only you!!! Miss you, miss you, Good Woman!
whoa...that story had me clinging to my computer desk with my heart in my throat and a cold sweat running down my back! I have a mole on my back,my GP wants me to go to a specialist to have it looked at. Yes I am going to have it removed. Its an ugly mole, I make sure that I don't wear any shirts or dresses with a low back that might reveal it, yup...that baby is comming off there. did your Dr say if your growths were malignant? Thats what scares me about this mole I have!
What a hilarious article!I can't imagine how scary it can be to have a razor coming towards your eye - one of my nightmares is to get a needle in my eye, I swear I would vomit then faint!I really want to get a couple of benign moles removed but I am unsure of cost etc Fantastically written article!! :)
Thank you all for your comments and for sharing your experiences and personal stories! I have to tell you that it took me awhile in my life to get to that point of allowing and tolerating the day of creepy growth scourging to happen. Believe me, I am so squeamish about anything concerning doctors. I have so many stories about putting things off because I just can't deal with cutting or needles or any of it to be honest. I do trust completely my doctor and in this instance specifically I had so many of these growths on my FACE! I'm already dealing with elderly face issues that I can't control but in this instance I could control getting these growth off of me by having them removed. The doctor did tell me before we did the removal that they would all continue to GROW. I also have had skin tags and have had them cut off! There is blood in them you know so it's not a fun event to cut them even though it actually takes about one second!! My doctor told me I could cut them myself – like THAT would it ever happen! Once, I had my husband do one but I was cringing in fear! Years ago my first skin tag grew out at the bottom of my nose! It looked like I had a big old vein growing right at the base of my nose! That was the first time I had an experience with someone cutting off a skin tag. Again the thing about having someone come towards your face only with a scissors this time.
What really made this recent appointment bearable for me (well not bearable) but courage wise was this story. Last year I had a lump in my breast (not a cancer lump) but a lump that would get infected every few months. The infection was intolerable and my breast was in so much pain each time I could hardly function daily. I'd take wheelbarrows of ibuprofen to get through it for all the weeks it lasted as well as prescriptions to help with the infection. I had it -x-rayed etc. but every time they said it was some sort of cyst and that this infection would continue to happen forever maybe! Well my friend 'vannell' said “You have to get THAT REMOVED!” No way was I ever going to let any doctor cut into my breast while I was AWAKE! Ladies, I'm here to tell you, there are a lot of things I cannot do, unless I am under anesthesia! My total freak out factor always comes into play if anything involving cutting or medical instruments are involved! I have phobias about just getting a physical exam every year! In another life I think some bad stuff must have happened to me because I absolutely cannot tolerate it! I'm paling visibly as I even write this!
Anyway, as my story continues,'vannell' literally hounded me about this lump and daily would say “Have you made an appointment yet?”. Of course I never did because this was terrifying to me! Well one day 'vannell' came to my desk and said, “I'm going to stand here while you dial and make the appointment or I'm calling and making this appointment for you myself!” So I made the appointment and 'vannell' even offered to go with me, but I went alone when the day came.
When I got there, the dizzy terrifying pulsations began and it took everything I had to not run back out of the doc's office. He knew I was out of my mind frightened. I told him the only way he could do this was if I could leave my bra on. I felt too vulnerable if he could see my entire breast or maybe he'd make too large of an incision if he had access to the whole thing!! I'm super modest and that also would have put me over the top! I didn't care if my bra got blood on it either as long as I could leave it on! He agreed I could and I wore a very low cut bra so he could get at the cyst. You could see the cyst but it was also deep below the skin. So, there I was lying on his table and I'm telling you I think I started crying because I was just so scared. Well, he had to stick a needle in there you know and again I held on for dear life to his nurse's hand. And he began cutting...so in order to NOT focus on what he was doing I started asking him questions about his life, his family, movies he liked....anything but conversation about what he was doing. I had my eyes closed tighter than a vacuum packed seal a meal! It took awhile for him to get the lump out. Just when I thought we would be able to wrap it up, he told me the 'lump' has a sack around it that has to come out or it would grow back again. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! So I kept talking and trying not to squirm! This is why they strap little kids to those awful boards in the pediatric doctor's offices – the frantic desire to squirm and get the hell out! I totally understand that!
He finished, and sewed me up and told me I did really well and my breast has been GREAT ever since! So ladies...having THAT experience made the removal of all those other things NOT SO BAD! The eye melia was really difficult BUT it was over in less than one minute. Even though I was making high pitched noises in my throat I got through it. Also...I was again able to let him do the eye melia because my friend 'Vannell' had a large eyelid melia too and she marched right to the doc and said 'GET IT OUT' and if she could do it, I could do it! I also saw that her eyelid healed perfectly and you never even knew she had it cut! Sitting here with my measle face looking like appearance – would I go back and have him, cut, burn, freeze everything he did? Yes – because the peace of mind I have in not seeing those lumps and crater looking skin growths any long just feels better to me. I also know they won't be sitting on my skin possibly turning into something deadly later on! I am working on my article all about melias so stay tuned lovely ladies! Thanks for listening to my story and hugs to all of you for your healing wishes!!
Jeanasina!
Oh wow, this story has made me not want to ever remove a mole! LOL How scary. I am ok with moles on my skin, I get them checked every time I go to the derm, but anything else odd on my skin has to go. I once had a bump on my head removed, it hurt when I was brushing my hair. I almost passed out when they were removing it, I could hear the suction as it left my head, the smell of my burnt flesh as they cauterized it almost made me throw up right on the spot...I just don't handle this stuff well. LOL
wow that really sounds like a horror movie. I recently took my grandma to get a mole removed from under her eye. I wonder if this is how she felt too? I had to watch her get it done and from my side it looked soooo nasty! it turns out it was a cyst and they took this weird needle sized scooper thing and scooped out the yuckies from under her skin. UGH so gross! it healed after a few days and now its like it was never there! hope you heal well too!
OMG Jeanasina - I"m tough as nails when it comes to these things - heck I even opted for an arm block instead of anesthetic when I had my carpal tunnel op, and I watched it on the monitor - tho' a couple of times the surgeon lifted up my wrist so I could see close up. If it's there it has to go. I don't want anything lurking on my skin. Cut, burn, freeze whatever - or give me the instrument, and I'll do it myself.I'm histrionic about moles etc, and make my brother, who has a lot of them, go to be tested periodically. He is not as tough as I am when it comes to this. Anyway he had this little brown mole thing on the corner of his eye. The psycho dermatologist he found looks at it and says :'oh well, look that's either a harmless cyst, or it's cancer for sure'. My brother is understandably so shocked he can barely speak as the man sticks a needle into it. It turned out to be a cyst after all - so my brother said something to him about his bedside manner. 'Oh it's just so awkward I get it out of the way quickly - anyway aren't you all relieved now?'.Then while the bro' is recovering from the bad news, the needle, the good news, and the subsequent smell of burning flesh as the offending cyst is removed, the dermatologist says 'you know - you have an unfortunate frown - don't people say you come across as moody and bad-tempered. My normally loquacious brother is now unable to speak. 'You need some botox', says the derm. 'Why don't we just do it now, and get all the unpleasantness out of the way in this appointment?' Brother by now is a complete wreck, so he just nods his head weakly.Afterward I called to check on him. All I heard was this little voice 'first he said I had cancer, then he told me I look bad tempered, so he burnt it off, and then botoxed me....I had some valium, and now I'm having a drink.' Anyway it took forever to get the full story out of him - understandably....I still laugh about it (I don't mean to), him not so much.....but the botox was fabulous on him. It must qualify for at least a runner-up in the 'doctor's appointments from hell' awards.

You are much, much braver than me. I can't stand shots, needles, pain, doctors, or anything like that! haha I have quite a few moles, just the regular brown non bumpy kind. Sometimes I wish I could get them removed, but I just think it would be more for cosmetic reasons. I just watch mine and make sure that they don't change shape or anything. I'm not sure why but they really don't bother me, I guess that's a good thing.
At one point I poked and prodded my melia and wondered how on Earth someone would go about actually removing them from my face. It's reassuring to hear there is a relatively professional way to have this done! I've only got them a few times and someone said they could be a sign I was using too much heavy duty eye cream near my eyes. And lo and behold, when I tried stopping the products in the area they went away by themselves after a couple of months.I've since stopped being so heavy-handed with my eye-cream [less is DEFINITELY more when it comes to this beauty item!] and my eyes are now pretty-much melia-free.
OMG I can't believe you managed to let him put the needle in your ear! I would have been long gone by then. I have had a few moles removed from my stomach and neck and had a cyst removed from my face, but not all in one go - I had time to settle and regain my composure over a few weeks between each! Congratulations for getting it all over and done within one go.
I have one mole on my back that I need to have looked at (though a regular doctor said it looked fine), but as far as moles go, I got lucky. Unfortunately, I got more than my fair share of freckles instead ;P.I usually do great at doctors. They are highly trained not to harm me, so I figure just let them do their job, and if something happens, it was probably going to happen anyway, even if I did worry. Well, except if the doctor in question seems like a ditz. Then I'm watching their every move...
I go to the dermatologist every 6 mos and have something or another either burned off or cut out. My last visit he cut off 4 suspicious dark moles but everything turned out fine. While reading your story I was actually griping the desk, I can't even imagine getting something removed from my eye. Yuck!
I've never been to a dermatologist, I usually take things off myself hehehe I once cut a skin tag off my neck with a pair of scissors yes I know I'm stupid !!!!Reading this has put me off going not that I was going anyway !!!
That would FREAK ME OUT!!! Anything near my eyeballs and I just can't handle it. During an eye exam the doctor once stopped what she was doing and asked me if I wanted to relax for a minute because I had been, without realizing it, cringing into one corner of the chair.
Ahh - Jeanasina, I am cringing at your story of the needle going into your hairline. I had a couple of little moles removed from my face and they had to numb the area before they removed them. I didn't realize the needle going into the side of my nose was going to hurt so damn bad. They didn't warn me and I let out the biggest shriek in the derm's office. I definitely got some "looks" from other patients as I was walking out the door. I was left wondering if they blade would have hurt less than the novicane needle.
Speaking of melia, I have an annoying one on my nose! I've consulted the dermatologist about it and it could easily be removed as what was done with yours but I haven't got around to having the procedure done. The weird thing is one time I was so frustrated with it that I began to pick at it and I managed to remove the bump leaving me with a small wound that healed flat. For weeks I felt where the bump was and it was flat but then after some time it would grow back. When it grew back to size I picked at it again and the same vicious cycle continued. It's weird that it keeps on growing back!
I have the same problem nina and I do the same as you I take them out with a needle, its easier than going and paying someone else to do it as they just do the same thing :-)
FYI - I posted this earlier in the thread:
[Re milia] I've only got them a few times and someone said they could be a sign I was using too much heavy duty eye cream near my eyes. And lo and behold, when I tried stopping the products in the area they went away by themselves after a couple of months.
I've since stopped being so heavy-handed with my eye-cream [less is DEFINITELY more when it comes to this beauty item!] and my eyes are now pretty-much melia-free.
HTH. :] ♥
You are very very very strong...I would have run out of the room crying like the little baby I am!!
I am going to assume you meant "milia" and not "melia." I looked it up and milia is the correct spelling (in case anyone else is trying to figure out what this is). I can understand why you wanted them removed. I wonder what causes them... I can't believe that even though you were just talking about a horror show, I was laughing my bum off. I don't know how you managed to make that funny but it is impresive!

FYI - I posted this earlier in the thread:
[Re milia] I've only got them a few times and someone said they could be a sign I was using too much heavy duty eye cream near my eyes. And lo and behold, when I tried stopping the products in the area they went away by themselves after a couple of months.
I've since stopped being so heavy-handed with my eye-cream [less is DEFINITELY more when it comes to this beauty item!] and my eyes are now pretty-much melia-free.

elle_71125! I have a write up coming soon about these inside the skin little white varmints and you are 100% correct - it IS spelled milia! The village idiot was in the house apparently as I narrated my tale! I am completely delighted that my telling of things too scary to endure had you laughing! You have made my day!
Jeanasina!
OMG! I think I have milia. I thought they were whiteheads. Thanks for letting me know. I thought there was nothing I could do about it!

Wow thats a crazy story. If anyone came near my eyes like that I would freak out. I am so sensitive about my eyes lol. That was really brave of you though coz I certainly would not have been able to go through it. I hope I never have to have anything removed because I'm too much of a chicken lol.
what a crazy story. I am so sensitive to things near my eye. I only let myself do my eye make-up and such, if anything came close to my eye like that, I would totally freak out!
omgoshh i hope your eyelids heal fast! i'm terrified of anything to do with my eyes... ><

Oh wow. When I got some of my milia removed, they used a little drill thing. It basically vibrated underneath the skin, and within a couple days they hard rice grain-ish things popped out! It made me red for a few hours after the procedure but that was about it!
