SWEETASSGAL GETS A LITTLE NUTTY! THE BENEFITS OF ALMOND OIL!

Sweetassgal bringing you some natural and organic love today via natures most perfect nut. No...not Jeanasina (we love your nuttiness honey) but via the Almond...one tiny little piece of crunchy perfection that packs a powerhouse WALLOP of health and beauty power. It's the Demi Moore of the nut world and I'm loving it.
Am I over exaggerating? I think not. As posted a few weeks back I've begun adding essential oils to my bath for relaxation purposes. Following the suggestions of many I also added a tablespoon of Almond oil to the water to help moisturize my skin. What I have found has been absolutely remarkable. Not only is my skin insanely soft after bathing (lotion isn't even necessary so this saves me valuable time before bed) but it acts as a great natural shaving lotion as well. The oil sits on top of the water and I simply rub my legs with my hands spreading the oil/water around and shave. My razor glides over my skin effortlessly and my skin is left silky smooth and completely hydrated...and NO shave cream bottles to take up space around my tub or end up in landfills! Not to mention the $ savings. I'm skipping expensive lotions and shaving cream and feel great about both. Though I do have to warn you it gunks up the razor a bit. Just tap it on the side of the tub to remove.
An added bonus...for those of us who don't have Meg's coveted "space" between their thighs and like to wear skirts in the summer you know how your bare legs rubbing together while walking can create some MUCH unappreciated friction. OUCH mama...fire down below!?! It's like the 4th of July with all those sparks going off down there! The almond oil creates a natural barrier that keeps that friction from building up and you are left pain free and cute as can be in your summer dress. I bought three new summer dresses this weekend just because of the Almond oil!! FUN!
Worried about the oil in the bath getting in your hair and looking greasy? Don't be. Almond oil massaged into your scalp is a natural answer to excessive hair fall (the amount you lose in the shower), it nourishes and smoothes your cuticles making it strong and thick and adds beautiful shine to your hair. Remember...you are only adding one tablespoon to your bathwater and this is being distributed ALL over your body and hair so excess is minimal. Almond oil deeply moisturizes your skin, improves your complexion retaining a natural glow, smoothes skin irritation and inflammation (ahem...devil's thigh burn), prevents aging, heals rashes and calms dry irritated skin. They say it helps lighten dark circles too but I cannot attest to that.
But don't stop there...get Almond oil from the inside by snacking on this delicious and SO good for you treat (plain unflavored almonds...otherwise you add unnecessary salt and calories). Almonds reduce cholesterol, promote brain and nervous system health and enhance endurance. They contain vitamin E and vitamin D and really help as a light snack between meals to keep you from overeating. You see my friends...just a perfect little bit of natural and organic goodness for your hair, skin and from within! I bought Aura Cacia Organic Sweet Almond Oil at my local health food store for $7 and you can get it online in bulk for even cheaper. Get a big enough bottle that you can refill your bath side container and keep packaging out of our landfills.
If you've got any more uses for this sweet serum let us know. The more uses I find for my natural and organic products the better. So for those of us who are "fire starters down below" drop some in your bath water and hit the streets in your favorite LBD sans painful thigh rubbing and irritation.
It's the REBIRTH of the sexy dress for our SEXY fuller figured Megheads! GLAM ON!!! WHO ELSE IS IN LOVE WITH THIS NUT!

Not in love yet. But I am gearing up to be. This little nut sounds like a miracle. I am loving the shaving and thigh suggestions for usage. I also wonder if it would benefit my husband. He has quite an impressive beard. And the skin underneath often gets painfully dry, itchy, and flaky. I wonder if massaging his beard with the oil would help. Hmmmm? Thanks for the glorious introduction to almond oil SAG. At this price I have no reason not to check it out.
I love using oils, and I have used a couple of mixes that contained Almond Oil.. but never AO on it's own. I'll definitely have to give it a try now! I've been looking for a natural shaving alternative, as chemical ones always give me horrible razor burn and break me out into unsightly bumps all over my legs. I use Vitamin E Oil on my legs after I shave which helps to minimize it, so it stands to reason that using oil to shave with would eliminate it completely! I also use it as my moisturizer for my face, and it leaves it silky smooth and soft. It's funny how something so simple (and relatively cheap) can be the most effective thing!I'll be adding some to my bath tonight.. I know all too well the horrors of the 'fire down below', and that burn can last for days! Let me tell you, when you go from wearing a skirt or dress and getting that burn, to wearing jeans the next day.. that doesn't put you in a pleasant mood. And the 'just got off of a horse' walk that it forces isn't attractive either.EDIT: Oh, I also use a mix with AO in my body scrub with some brown sugar.. it smells divine! Something about the smell of almond oil triggers happy feelings in my brain. :)
Oooh almond oil. I use a body scrub that has a bunch of that in it and it smells SOOOOOOOO good. I don't see why you couldn't make a DIY almond body scrub using the oil and some sugar...Now there's an idea!
I have yet to try sweet almond oil, but I've seen it in a lot of skincare recipes. I have some apricot kernel oil on hand and I like to rub it in my little boys moist skin after their bath. I'll even add a drop of lavender to get them nice and relaxed....and sleepy! They love being pampered : )Edit - Forgot to add that yes, I am a member of the inner thigh burning club. Ouch!
i love this company - i have an air deodorizer (how random in relation to this post eh) from them and it works magic - plus its totally naturali have not heard of using almond oil for baths, shaving, OR the inner thighs - i am the queen of biking shorts under dresses and skirts and bermuda shorts in the summer because theres no other way to live if i want to keep my skin blister free... will have to try this asap! thanks!!

I love almond oil! I haven't tried it in the bath either but I love using it as a moisturizer. I use a drop on my face when it's really dry. I have a bit bottle of it right now. I'm going to go and start using it.Oils are amazing. There are SO many to try. And some are even natural SPFs! I have a little bottle of red raspberry seed oil that I use when I'm in the sun.
i love the smell of almond oil. I use a boots body butter with organic almond and pistachio oil in and it leaves my skin soft and smooth and smelling yummy. I have a tiny bottle of almond oil for my nails. I got it last year when i got acrylic nails and the woman who did them recommened a brand of nail oil made up of pure almond oil. I rub it in my cuticles and then add a few extra drops to a dollop of hand cream and its ideal for the winter months when skin takes a battering.
Another great review, SAG! And saving us money too... I like the way you think.I have been using L'Occitane's almond oil in the shower and after - but hadn't thought about using it for shaving my legs. Great idea! Also, buying the Aura Cacia sounds a bit better on the budget than my beloved L'Occitane. I'll be checking it out when I run out of my current supply.Almonds are wonderful - in so many ways. I carry a little 100 calorie bag of the plain ones in my purse for food emergencies. You know - when your errands seem to take longer than you expected, and you start getting hungry, and you are in danger of succumbing to fast food or a frappuccino? Whip out that little bag of almonds and you are SAFE!

I didn't know almond oil can prevent excessive hairfall! Thanks SAG, I learned something new today!
I love almond oil - it's great for massaging onto your face - you remove it with a washcloth that's been rinsed in fairly warm water and wrung out - very helpful for blackheads. I know it sounds counter-intuitive but it works. You can also use olive oil, or Udo's oil (blend of oils) in this way. It's best if you use extra-virgin. I'm definitely going to add some to my bathwater - sounds fantastic. Thank-you for the tip - I especially like the idea of using it for shaving...brilliant advice.I know everyone says nuts are fattening, and they are - if you eat them roasted and salted. Raw unsalted nuts are a lifesaver on a diet - they make salads more palatable, they fill you, provide you with fiber and good fats - which makes you less likely to crave the bad ones. I'm not Twiggy, but I tend to be on the slimmer side - and I eat a lot of nuts. There is nothing more delicious than dried apricots and figs with raw almonds or pecans except maybe a whole chocolate fudge cake, but I digress.....

sounds lovely. when u apply it on ur thighs so u can wear skirts, does it make you extra hot? i tend to sweat in that area as well as get friction.
http://www.youtube.com/ashleya1002
I sweat there too (ug...gross) and I don't find that this makes it feel extra hot. Mainly because the barrier reduces friction...which reduces heat...which reduces sweating! I shopped all morning and didn't feel any irritation. The AO just let my legs glide smoothly. It was heaven and I got all of the "airy" feelings of wearing a skirt instead of having my body heat kept in by pants. Lovely! Remember...a little goes a long way. Just a drop on your hands to rub in should do. YAY skirts!
Love, hugs and shoes...Angie
I love the idea of streamlining and multi tasking. Who would not want to try something that helps the skin, hair and scalp! (This leaves more room in my suitcase!) Plus, it is very accessible.I just read that:Almond oil is widely used in Aromatherapy for giving body massage. The oil is easily absorbable and serves as a great emollient, by lending a soft glowing beautiful touch to the skin. It balances the moisture in the body. In case of loss of moisture, it helps to restore it. It makes a great lubricant, thus aids in combating itching and inflammation. It is an excellent natural moisturizer that is suitable for all skin types. Owing to the multitude of benefits that Almond oil offers, it is increasingly finding its way in the making of soaps, creams and moisturizers.Almond oil application is the best therapy for conditioning the skin and reviving its natural glow. It is also known to improve the complexion and give a younger look to the person to whom this oil is applied. It helps a great deal in nourishing the skin. Sweet Almond oil application provides an instant relief, in case of muscle pain. It has a high concentration of oleic and linoleic essential fatty acids. Though, it is mostly used for giving a body massage, but, at times, it is used as base oil and mixed with Wheatgerm oil to give it a longer shelf life.
Thanks Angie for another fabulous review! I am a huge fan of all natural beauty treatments and it seems to me that the items I buy at the health food store work just as well if not better than the ones I splurge on at the department store. About ten years ago my father was diagnosed with adult onset diabetes which led him to completely change his diet. His breakfast consists of a high-fiber cereal, to which he adds wheat-germ, flax seed and you guessed it- almonds. The diet he adopted definitely helped him become more fit and healthier, and his doctor was really impressed with the results. So I've seen first hand the amazing things the almond can accomplish, but I had never thought of using it topically. Right now I am using Weleda rosemary oil, as a hair treatment. It works really well, but the almond oil would be less expensive and I'm sure it smells divine.

I love almond oil I buy an organic one from Neal's Yard and use it when I make my own lip balm and with my essential oils :-)
Hrhtracey-I couldn't agree more, the most natural elements are often the most effective! Especially when you have super sensitve, problem-skin like mine. I think it's partially because I never used to use anything natural that I am struggling with some of the skin problems I face today.
Can't wait to give this a try-it can be my belvoved Tea Tree Oils new best friend! Almond and Tea Tree sittin' in a tree........
Great information Sweetassgal-Thank You!

Ooop! Just learning how to post from my Blackberry. Me no likey new technology sometimes........ Where r u LAFRED-throw a girl a bone.
The smell of Almond Oil is probably my favorite smell in the whole wide world. I've only used it in my hair where it adds A LOT of shine, but these skincare tips look great!
Wonderful review, and so inspirational! I have been using almond oil to massage my cuticles for ages -- I do it while I'm watching TV. Nothing goes better with Michael Westen's informative primers on how to make C4 explosives out of toothpaste and old eraser ends than a gentle but thorough cuticle treatment!
I've found most natural, organic oils work great for lots of things. From calming my itchy scalp, and make it dandruff free (ok, the reason for my dandruff is seborrhoea) to shaving legs with. Since I don't have a bath, I take a shower and rub some oil onto my legs before shaving. If it's just stubble, I shave it right off. If it's long hair because I've been neglecting it, I use some shaving soap or cream on top. Almond is good, but a little bit too fatty for me at times. I rather like safflower, that is just a bit drier, to use as a lotion.
oh wat a great idea, putting it right in the bath. I have however, used it to shave before, in the shower, not so easy, cos it makes the shower a bit slippy under your feet, but it works. I also love using oils on my face, i used jasons vit e beauty oil, it is lovely, smells of almonds too since it has ao in it. I used it while my face was still damp and rubbed a drop or 2 all over. Ive stopped using it for now since it had wheatgerm oil in it and i dont want to use that. Maybe straight AO is the way to go, not tried this brand yet.
makeup makeup makeup!!!!!!!
I never thought about shaving with oil. Thanks for the great idea. Now I wish I had a bath tub! Almond oil smells so divine! I have the Jason Vitamin E oil and that has an almond scent which is fantastic.
check out my blog

great review. Some of my scrubs contain almond oil and i did notice that my skin was much smoother and didnt need lotion after using the scrub. My friend have used almond oil for her hair and she really liked the results. The only concern i have is that it does leave a residue on the tub, and messes up my razors.
Ooh, I love the smell of almond oil, yum! I used to have a few almond oil hand creams that I loved. However, I've never used it on its own, but that will soon change. I love taking baths, and I love when the bath moisturizes me. My favorite bath is when I use a bit of the Humongo Lush bath bomb, it leaves a great coating of moisturizer on my skin, so that I don't have to use an additional moisturizer. Using almond oil instead sound so much more cost effective, I'll surely pick some up next time I go out for groceries. I also love eating raw almonds!
OMG....I loved this blog! I am so interested in using essential oils for things such as skin care, hair care and for any/everything else. it just makes perfect sense that we should be using more oils and natural ingredients in everything we buy! Have you guys tried any other essential oils for the hair. I am looking for something to help thicken hair and help with fall out (which sweetassgal--told us almond oil does).anyone have any other suggestions -please let me know ;)ANDPhilogene--I must ask you about your homemade lip balm....how do you make, what do you use, where can we buy...LOL
connemara22 I use organic olive oil, Organic Almond oil and Organic Bees wax then I add some drops of essential oil, I can't give you measurement as I just know how much to use just by tipping it in :-)But I can tell you that Olive oil is the largest amount then Almond oil and hardly any of the bees wax the bees wax is what makes it hard so you don't want a lot :-) Hope that helps this is my recipe so I haven't ever measured it !!!
Almond oil as an anti-chafing product, hmm! You could put it on your feet to prevent blisters, and around your sports bra. What a great idea, thanks!
I'll be honest - the only oil I've ever used on myself was olive oil, and that was because it was convenient to work with! It was a great makeup remover for my delicate eye area nad I'll definitely be looking into these different ways to use it - though I'm not sure if I"m ready to invest in different oils.
xoxo
This sounds great, I never thought almond oil could do all those things! I would so much rather have one natural product for shaving, moisturizing and anti-chaffing! Thanks for the great review, next time I'm at the health food store I will be looking for this!
I can't believe how many uses you got from one teeny weenie bottle of almond oil.I'll be trying the almond oil leg shaving oil cos it might stop me nicking myself with the razor for a change.I read you can rub a teeny bit into your eyelashes to strengthen them .Wonder would a little bit at the back of your ankle stop the pain of breaking in new shoes.Love the way you kept putting in the message of buying less packaging and not filling up landfill.
PotionPrincess♥
I'm going to try some almond oil
i use jason natural vitamin e oil and that has almond oil in it- i love it- i rub it on damp skin after my shower.I hadnt thought of doing anything else with it! i like the idea of putting it in the bath and body scrubs etc, i am off to rub some on my scalp before bed, i will report back with results in the morning (please dont let my hair be a big greasy mess tomorrow!!! ;)
I'm a bit hesitant with oils in general, and I don't like almonds neither lol. But the review keeps me thinking to change my attitude:-D.
Make up your beauty-full mind...www.myspace.com/blackdivaworld
I'm not really a big fan of almond scents in general. I love real almond nuts plain but dont like the flavoring in food and cakes or in sprays, hair products, and lotions. But this is the best blog post I've read in a while and has convinced me to try this in my occasional bath. thanks SAG!
;) Gloss & Gum <3
I've just recently got into using oils and I love it. I always thought oil=greasy mess but it certainly isn't. I find most of my lotions more greasy than these oils. My favorite right now is the jason's vitamin e oil. I am definitely going to check out the one you suggested! Thanks for the info!
Oh wow! I have to try this - you're the twentieth person to tell me almond oil is wonderful. Now someone from Meg's Mafia has recommended it I have no excuses not to try it!Sadly I don't have a bath - could I use this wonder oil in the shower? I might just give it a go regardless. Nothing ventured, nothing gained as they say! ;]Thankyou for the great ideas! ♥
Be careful using oils in the shower...I don't want you to slip and fall!!!!
Love, hugs and shoes...Angie
Ohhh, thankyou for the warning! I would never have even considered this and may have been left with a nasty injury. I should probably avoid using it in the shower as we have two children under the age of 6 stay with us every fortnight [my partners from a previous relationship] and I would hate for them to slip and fall!Looks like I'll just have to continue campaigning for a bath. ;]
Thanks for this review! I love almond oil! It's amazing and I'm a sucker for things that have a thousand different uses. :PWhen I was doing my makeup course last year we had huge 2 litre bottles of almond oil on hand at all times. It's amazing to use for facials and it's a fantastic makeup remover. We all used to use it to remove eye makeup and everything else and it did a great job! And none of us ever had any kind of reaction to it. Almonds are one of my favourite nuts, so delicious! <3
I can't not wait to try this, I have been looking for an essential oil to put in my bath and I love the smell of almonds. I am going out tomorrow to the health food store to get this. I have also been looking for an oil for my super dry hair and will try this.I having been eating almonds ever since I read about the benefits of eating them to prevent migraines, I have found that it works as long as I also stay hydrated.
I love almond oil! I use it all the time. A lot of people fear oil and think it will break out their skin, but this is just not the case. It's also great for taking off eye makeup!
Using almond oil when shaving is a great idea, thank you. I currenty use it to moisturise my cuticles when they get really dry and I find it's fabulous for that.
Wonderful review! I really haven't got into oils, but I keep hearing such great things about them on this site that I think I'm going to have to start using them! I love the idea of using these on my thighs, I too have rubbing issues and this sounds like an awesome solution! I also like the idea of using this for shaving. Regular shaving lotions and creams tend to dry my legs out really bad. I bet this one wouldn't!
Sweetassgal! Makin' fun of me are you? Honey you sure know how to do a write up! You and your essential oils – almond oil! The only essential oil we have in this house is the oil sardines come in! I'm telling you straight up - sardine oil? Nothing at all even remotely feminine about soaking in a bath that smells like sardine oil! I think I'd rather do these essential oil soakings at your house SAG! The way you describe what this oil does in making you want to purchase cute sun dresses on the spot!...you sure make this nut oil sound sublime! The only reason I always had an aversion to using oil is because it always leaves an oil slick. Oil slicks are scary ass situations when you are on your way to being elderly. I wish I had more patience for a bath. I can only sit there so long and not one second longer. I wish I was a soaker woman. If you were bath oil and I got in the bathtub with you and you saw it was me you'd say “We better work extra fast to adhere to her skin because we've only got about two minutes before she's out and miles from nowhere near this bathtub!” I might fidget a lot if I was at a spa sitting perfectly still in some kind of tub attempting to SOAK! I'm not a soaker. I wish I was because I know for so many women, it's their complete place of freedom and pampering! Soaking in all those oils, and potions and sometimes flowers!! For so many women it's their most sensual time! A woman and her soaking routine are one! You know exactly what takes you to blissville in the privacy of your own tub! Run a bubble bath – the anticipation of that bath is SO good! I love all of it, but I'm just not a soaker! I guess if somebody paid me a lot of money to soak in the tub I could consider trying harder to like it.
I love almonds though! I love almond croissants most of all! I love the smell of almond scented lotion! I love this review! And I just love the daylights out of SweetAssGal! Honey you are having such a FUN life! When I think of someone who is really LIVING their life; I think of you girl! I envy you and admire you. Everything you pointed out was totally news to me about this lovely nut! I am seriously wishing I had some almond oil here with me now so I could experience all those things you described so well. I can practically picture you walking around with your almond oil clutched in your hand; turning and looking at everybody while applying a little on your arms and everybody who is watching you apply it is WISHING they were you because I just know it shows on your face how much you like putting that oil on your skin!
Jeanasina!
I absolutely love the smell of almond! I use Jason's Vitamin E oil as my nightly moisturizer, and my only complaint is that the amazing almond scent doesn't last longer! So, this stuff definitely sounds awesome. I have that thigh-rubbing problem, I never thought of using oil as a barrier, that's pretty brilliant. I was planning to buy the Monistat anti-chafing gel, but I can probably just use the Jason's stuff I already have. Thanks!
Thank you for great review.
I would have never thought to use Almond oil on my legs as a "shaving cream." I've been trying to steer clear of using soap to shave my legs but I have yet to find the perfect shaving cream/foam or whatever you want to call it. I'm going to look into finding me a small bottle of Almond Oil, because not only does it do that one thing but it also does so much more. I never knew Almonds have Vitamin E in them and that's why they moisturize and lighten darks spot. Vitamin E is good for those 2 latter things. Thaks for a great review.

I also love Almond Oil! To make a wonderful hair treatment (for hair fallout), use a teaspoon or two of almond oil, and 2-3 drops of rosemary essential oil. Like you say SAG, the almond oil is wonderful for your hair & scalp, and the rosemary essential oil helps to strengthen the hair. I find if I put this mixture on at night before I wash my hair, then all I have to do in the morning is shampoo & there is no need for conditioner. The only thing to be careful about is if you have nut allergies. My nephew is allergic to all tree nuts, so my sister has to be extremely cautious with all new skin care items, to see if they contain any nut oils. You would be surprised how many items now contain nut oils. Take organic/natural lip balm for example - usually the first ingredient is sweet almond oil (which is great for us that aren't allergic), but my nephew would be in trouble if he used that. All in all though, I love my almond oil. I'm definitely going to have to try it for that thigh friction when wearing a dress - thanks for this post!
