MARCO PELUSI ANSWERS YOUR HAIR QUESTIONS! PART DEUX!!

Hair genius extraordinaire Marco Pelusi has taken some time out of his day to go back to your hair questions!! As usual, he answered them with precise care. Hair's some of your answers! Thanks Marco-xoo
Micky Santos says, "I have really thin hair that is colored and volumizing products make it look and feel really dry. Any suggestions?"
Hi there! I can most certainly understand where you're coming from. The combination of color treated hair along with very fine hair is a bit of a dilemma. The biggest complaint from women like yourself with fine color treated hair is that products formulated to preserve color often weigh the hair down -- which is exactly the opposite of what you want! Therefore, the answer for you is somewhere in the middle. I would recommend shampooing more often so as to increase the volume in your hair -- but you absolutely must use a product that is 'color safe'. I would recommend ALTERNATING shampoos -- one day please do go ahead and use a bodifying or a volumizing shampoo -- and the next day use a moisturizing shampoo. This system will even out the potential for either drying the hair out, or weighing it down. The answer is to mix it up -- and the answer is really in the shampoo you use -- volume will either begin or end with a shampoo. That's the best place to start. Of course, you know I'm going to recommend Marco Color Bodifying Shampoo with Collagen Color Guard, as I specifically formulated it JUST for women with fine color treated hair. It's a slightly higher pH than my moisturizing shampoo, but still maintains the life of the color -- www.marcopelusi.com
Kimmielocks says, "I'm a student who barely has time to devote to her hair in the morning before class. Outside of ponytails or simply wearing my hair down, my hair routine is pretty boring!
I have long, straight hair. Can you suggest some quick hairstyles or ways to jazz up my hair? Thanks!!"
The best thing for you to do it to spice your hair up with a cut! The easiest way to jazz up long hair -- without losing length -- is to add LAYERS. If you've had difficulty with layers in the past, tell your hairdresser to go 'easy' on the layers, and to keep them on the longer side. Layers are the very best way to spice up long straight hair. If you're gutsy, add even some shorter layers, OR, add a sexy, long bang! Bangs -- when kept on the longer side -- and bangs that are swept to the side -- are very trendy right now -- and are quite an exciting easy addition to jazz up your long hair. I would go back to basics, and start with a really, really good hair shaping (cutting). Another possibility is to add a few highlights -- even just around your face -- to give the illusion of volume and body and movement in your hair. Often times we only think of haircolor as far as covering grey, or doing something totally different. Actually, the reality is that highlighting can add that extra something that makes long hair exciting. I hope this helps! Thanks!
Thank-you Marco! It's very exciting that you give us such great insider access!

I second the bangs... they can do a lot for a haircut. They're so trendy right now and look good on everyone!
I love bangs! I just got some long swoopy ones. They look cute and don't make my face look any rounder, which is awesome! I also got some more layers cut in too. Definitely made me feel better about my hair :)
Yay! Thank you so much for answering my question, Marco!I think I will definitely be taking your advice when it comes time for my haircut! I'm pretty ashamed to say I haven't gotten a haircut in almost a year *hangs head* so that's probably one reason why my hair has gotten so boring! I absolutely love bangs and had longer straight-cut bangs a while ago. I adored them, it was just a hassle blow drying them straight due to a cowlick I have. Maybe this time I'll have layers + sideswept bangs cut in.
I love my bangs!! I have really long hair and was tired of it being boring LOL. So...i had layers and swide swept bangs done and love it!!!
I recently took had several inches taken off my hair. It is now a medium length with layers and highlights. It really gave me a more fresh modern look and it is one of the best things I have done. I want to tell all of those girls that are on the fence about long layers. GO FOR IT. !! You will be glad you did.
I looooved my sideswept bangs, they totally changed my look. But it made me crazy how they were always in my face and I don't look good with regular bangs so I can't so the bang thing anymore =(
Thank you, Marco. Your ideas sound fresh and easy. Now, I'm waiting for the answer about a technique for a quick morning do. It was a good question, as a ponytail gets boring after awhile.
I LOVE sideswept bangs - and the best thing is that I can cut them myself so I don't have to be back in the salon every few weeks just to get my bangs cut :) If you guys are interested in cutting your hair yourself, check out youtube - some of the ladies (ahanbarbie comes to mind!) have excellent tutorials on it :) They keep my forehead from looking as big, and they're a casual yet chic look - and hey, if I get tired of them, I can still pin them up or blend them in with the rest of my hair! win win situation! Thanks for answering our questions :)

I didn't think I would ever hear an expert in the hair industry suggest that someone wash their hair more often... I like the idea of mixing the shampoo/conditioner up, it totally makes sense for us fine haired vixens. I'll keep that in mind next time I'm need new product. Thanks!!!
I agree with the bangs!!! a long swoopy bang.. or the "laguna beach bang" i call them!! =D I love the idea of switching the shampoos to!! that is a great idea!!! I will tell my clients that!!!
I love love love bangs they can transform a boring hair cut instantly :-)
I really do love BANGS too it was hard to cut the first time but now I wont let it go =)

My hair sounds just like Micky Santos' hair. I have bleached fine hair. I also find that bodifying shampoo makes my hair feel dry. I HAVE to use something with moisturizing or repairing components. I have not tried Marco's products, but since they were specially formulated for this type of hair...I would love to try it.

I've been considering long, side-swept bangs, but I'm scared to try it. My hair has a mind of its own and is wavy, curly, straight depending on the day. I had bangs for a LONG time (until college) and I remember always struggling to get them to look decent (and often failed). It took forever to grow them out when I finally decided I had enough of them in college. I need to get a haircut soon, so maybe I'll be brave and try it. BTW: I LOVE Katie Holmes current style. I saw her on So You Think You Can Dance, and I thought it was really cute.
Great suggestions, thanks so much! Done the bangs, the highlights, and am really trying not to get too "layered" because I'm in the gym a lot and all that hair popping up and out is a pain to deal with...I'd like that sleeked-back ballerina-look if only in my mind,LOL! I think I'm leave my hair alone until I can get back to LA...:)
I have very long hair too and my bangs are just about to grow right past my eyebrows...I usually keep them kinda short and eighty-ish;-), but recently I just let them grow and am now able to have the bangs straight down, side swept or keep them out of my face with a pin (to the side or in the middle by taking the bangs up and brushing your whole hair to the back). Definitely more varieties than with my 'ol eighties palmtree, lol.

I can't help but change my hair every six months or so. I get so tired of having the same look! I have just gone from thick dark bangs to growing them out with a side-part. Soon I'll be rocking an asymmetric bob for the Australian Summer in a few months - can't wait for my next hair change! Change, afterall, is as good as a holiday. ;]
Kimmielocks- have you ever tried using hairsticks? I have long hair and wanted to find ways of keeping it up and out of my face. I bought some hair stick and I love them! They take maybe a minute or two to use, and your hair looks cute and stays up! If you do a search for them on youtube, you'll find lots of ways to use them!
Thanks Marco! I have the same problem as Kimmie. I always opt to put my hair in a ponytail rather than style it because I seriously couldn't think of anything to do with it. Great tip!
thanks for the advice
I have to agree that layers can really bring a blah haircut to fabulous. I admit that I usually have boring hair. I usually just want it out of the way. I don't have a lot of time to spend on it...and it's just a pain in my but. I recently went to the hair dresser for a haircut (it was down to my bum) and got a sholder length cut. The stylist added some layers to the front and straightened my hair. The layers made my hair look wonderful. Since I just clip my hair back most days, those layers really make a difference. I now have very feminine layers fall out of the clip in such a pretty way...

I think that if you have straight, long layers and don't wanna cut it, you can put in some mousse and put it in a bun with a chopstick. When you get to school, let your hair down, and voila!
Great advice, THANK YOU.
i have the same problem as kimmielocks. mornings just rush by and i never have time to do anything with my hair. thanks for the advice.
I love my bangs. I think these posts with hair tips are fantastic. Thanks!
I cant decide on which kind of bangs to get. I really want to do what Zooey Deschanel does, but I am afraid my thick, wavy hair will be too scruffy for work if I go for that. I have little curls at my temples that tend to frizz horribly... Would long side swept bangs be a better bet?
I'd love to try Marco's line of products. I like how they seem to be specially formulated for a very particular hair type. I like meticulous!
