THEBALM! TWO-TIMER MASCARA!

Meg here! I am having a birthday party tomorrow night. My birthday is Monday and who wants to party on a Monday? One of my guy friends can't be there so I went out with him last night. I raged! I was like a caged animal released (its been a tough month.) I really was naughty and really wild.
I had to get myself to Costco today with my friend John and we had to get some party supplies. I didn't put any makeup on except my moisturizing sunscreen. I barely had the energy to drag a comb through my hair. I felt like death warmed over and headed to John's place to get the errands done.
John: Meg, wow! You look great. Really you look young and fresh faced. I think this is the best you've looked.
I am ready to beat him but then I realize something HE IS BEING SERIOUS
He goes on to tell me that I wear too much makeup and it just makes me look older. Solero and Megken have said the same thing to me pretty recently as well. I don't know if my new beauty routine should include me going out the night before and dancing on tables but HHmm something to think about I guess
This brings me to TheBalm Two Timer Mascara. My friend was just in town visiting me from the UK and he said "Are those your real lashes? They look real but are they those lash extension things?" They were my "real lashes" I had just used the "Marcus Lashalot" end with is the fuller end of the dual wand. It is great becuse it actually gets really skinny in the middle of the lash wand to collect gumped up extra clump so your lashes just look long and full-but they're REAL no extenstions needed.
During the day, I absolutey love the other end of the mascara "Johnny Finetune" it lets me be precise and it looks like I'm not even wearing any mascara. It just really makes my eyes POP. It's just a sexy girl next door hotness. Apparently lately, I've been looking like I should be on the show The Girl Next Door!
I love that it is duo-sides because as women, we need A. Options B. Cosmetic Case Space! I really grab for this little Two-Timer constantly.
So I'm going to start to go more with the Johnny Finetune and try to hide behind a lot of makeup. I mean I am Megs Makeup. It's not like I'm ever going to be one of those "natural girls" Ugh. Sorry babe, not me.
I will be trying a lighter hand though.
As with all of TheBalm's products-I think this is a very quality product at a fair price.
I will have a lighter hand with my makeup! I will...I'll start Sunday.. Saturday night is party night and I'll be going behind Johnny Finetune's back and having quite the affair with Marcus Lashalot! As Sweetassgal
says I'll be getting my "Glam ON!"
What did you ladies think of TheBalm's Two-Timer mascara? Are you having secret rondez-vous on your old lash wands?

Wow - this mascara sounds amazing. I have sensitive eyes & weak lashes, so I can only wear waterproof mascara. Although, I did check the site and it said it's water resistant, but sometimes that's not the same as waterproof. This mascara sounds good enough to give it a try, though. I'll probably pick it up on my next Sephora shopping trip! I'll let you know what I think.
Whater resistant and waterproof are not always the same thing. People tend to use both expressions as if they were the same but to some brands they are not. I don't know about this particular one but waterproof is when you have to remove the mascara with oil based removers so it comes off, but water resistant is when it will come off with warm water and regular makeup remover but it's harder to take off. it won't smudge as much as regular mascaras, but it will do so (whereas the waterproof one won't). it's a bit confusing, really. I think.
I love love love this mascara. I don't know if it is suppose to curl my lashes, but it appears that it does. I like the two brushes. Like Meg said, each brush produces a different result. I used the fine tune end to comb my lashes for day and they look real, like those cute babies lashes that are inches long! The other end works more at thickening the lashes. This product lasts all day and no black specks my eyes. Great product. This is a must buy.

First of all, HAPPY ALMOST BIRTHDAY, MEG! No, I know it's not your birthday today, but by the time Monday rolls around, I'm not sure I'll remember to wish you happy birthday (for the same reason you won't be celebrating on Monday--Monday's just are crazy and not very fun!).This mascara sounds fabulous... but I'm hesitant to shell out more than $8 for a mascara (maybe that's why I'm still searching for my holy grail of mascara!!). I do love my double ended Revlon primer+mascara, but I must admit I've strayed... A clinique mascara here, an Avon mascara there... Maybe someday I won't be such a mascara commitment-phobe!Also, what moisturizing sunscreen were you wearing that made you look even more fabulous than usual?

First of Happy early Birthday mine is on Wednesday :) hope you have a great party tomorrow!I think that's great when mascaras give your lashes the ultimate makeover leaving others like 0.0 WHOA haha. Sounds like a really neat mascara i'm good on the curling i'm lucky enough to have lashes that stay pretty curled just by doing the zig zag motion when I apply mascara. With mascara too my lashes are pretty long thing I need help with is the thickening/fuller look haha. That's why I kind of want to try the Fiberwig. I have read on here and heard from others mixed reviews but some of my friends have had great results so i'm enticed to give it a go :)
Dancing on table tops releases some kind of freaky-hot endorphins that just make you glow! Good for you Meg, you released the beast in the best possible way, love that! Your birthday party is all I've thought about for the past week, it's what got me through 100 degree yard sale weather, I can't wait to see you! I hope you don't mind if my inner beast crashes the party, she has been nagging to be let out. On to the mascara. I tend to look at most products in a pessimistic light. Perhaps, it's a defense mechanism, if it fails, no biggie, if it succeeds, unexpected happiness abounds. This mascara blew my socks off. I have used it in the way Meg mentioned, for day vs. night, and I have used both at once (really dramatic). All three methods worked beautifully and served very different purposes. I love a product that can multi-task. My only negative, it was a little hard to remove. It doesn't smear, great for sweltering weather and watery eyes, not so great for sensitive eyes during the removal process. It won't stop me from using it though, the results are just too damn impressive. I'm talking, lashes hitting the sunglasses, impressive. Blue, you won't regret this purchase, especially when your peepers look so bright and beautiful! Thanks Meg!
*drools* Seriously... I didn't need to know about another mascara!! Now I must buy!! Sounds absolutely great. I love the ones with 2 ends... Usually one is a white primer... And.. back in the day... I used to Goop on the primer to give myself white lashes.... and black eyeliner to the max ..... need I say more.... HAHA yes... wanna be goth emo in high school.

Wow, this story is so inspiring. I know on days I slacken off and go with mascara, lipgloss and foundation people are always asking me what I've been doing to look so damn fresh!Maybe we should all take a leaf from your book and have regular 'minimal makeup' days? :)
I need to try this,I can never wear mascara during the day without edging into tranny zone yet look kinda dead without any makeup.Im trying to perfect the no makeup cheating look, facial tan, blush(or I look like the undead-triller video anyone)and lipgloss.Mabye this is the holy grail of mascara.HAPPY BIRTHDAY MEG,dont lead dawn to far astray,Im sure youll have a blast.

Happy Almost Birthday!! I hope you have a wonderful time this weekend and on Monday. I cannot believe that this mascara really makes your lashes look fake, when they're actually real. My lashes are (whispers quietly] horrible. They thin and sometimes it looks as if they're barely there. I most def. need to get my hands on this because I cannont master the art of putting on false lashes and I'm almost fed up with trying. Thanks for this review I'll be putting this on my next beauty shopping list !!!
http://liptontee.blogspot.com
I don't ever wear any mascara, because all the ones I've tried just makes my lashes look like they are either made of plastic, used to be spider legs or worst of all, they make my lashes clump together. Probably I'm just bad at applying mascara! With that said, this might just perhaps work for me. I'll see and cross my fingers. Thanks for the review.
First of all happy birthday fearless leader! You deserve to have crazy fun after the month that you have had. Great review of the mascara! It sounds fab. I adore the idea of two options in one tube. I am always looking for mascara that doesn't look like mascara for that daytime look. This sounds perfect! But does anyone know if there is an easier removal method. I hate the idea of irritation for my sensitive eyes like Stylemamma mentioned. I think that will check this one out!!
First of all, Meg, a VERY MERRY UN-BIRTHDAY TO YOUUUU!! (Can you tell I am channeling my inner Mary Murphy here?) Second of all, your Costco-going friend is right, if that cute little photo of you sipping a smoothie that accompanied your bathing-suit buying piece is any evidence. Girlfriend, you looked abut 15, tops! A-dorable.I have to say, my Bad Mommy may not have done more than set me adrift on an ice-floe with a box of Keebler Club Crackers, but she did tuck a few funny things into the box with me. One was a fabulous collection of sayings that, if she did not invent, at least I've never heard anyone else use. They are coming in handy since I discovered you and this wonderful place you gift us with every day. For example, if she had lived long enough to see Amy Winehouse she would have exclaimed "She looks like something sent for but never got here." (Actually, my Brit friends describe Ms. Winehouse's look as being dragged through a hedge, backwards.) Her favorite color was SkyBlue Pink, and her least favorite Meesamishina Green. All of which is by way of saying that after seeing a video of Amy last night I learned two things: a) that woman has spent too many nights dancing on table tops, and b) she is in desperate need of your Costco buddy. 90 minutes of looking at that hot mess with the amazing voice inspires me to spend even more time out with less on. And that was before I confessed I was barely wearing anything but mascara in the "What's on Your Face" thread in Chit Chat. You may have noticed I like mascara. I love this one. It is everything a gal on the go needs, which is why it is the only one I am packing in my suitcase for the beach, right now. I just had to stop and read this. As ex-Bad Mommy would have said, "The man who said One Thing At a Time never met This One." (Until I registered for elementary school I thought that was my name. Imagine my first teacher's surprise...)
wow this mascara sounds wonderful. i don't wear mascara that much really i some how keep forgetting to put it on when i put my makeup on. i'll have to head over and check this out and see whats it all about.
Happy Birthday Meg!! I love mascara! I'm still searching for my HG mascara. Does anyone ever really find theirs? This sounds perfect a day look and a night time glam look. LOL @ tantejoan-at least you made an impression :P
Oh, Meg, haven't you heard - it's your birthday WEEK! Since you've paid your dues this long: from this moment on, celebrate your birthday with everyone you know. If your friend can't make your party, then dinner at your favorite spot and free dessert is part of the birthday week. I can't tell you how many times I've had fun during the whole week. Another friend took me for a birthday massage - birthday treats for the sweet. I started that when I was 21, and will never go back to just one day. Think about it - 51 weeks of doing for others makes one week for you look enticing....My friends have now embraced the concept - we'll never go back to Just One Day....If that mascara duo doesn't make my sensitive eyes sting for a week, then I'll raise a glass to you with bells and long lashes on! Best wishes for a healthy and happy year!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! and a 2 in 1 what a great idea!!! as soon as i get some extra cash (( my car payment and student loans are killing me )) i might have to try this out!! <3<3<3
Route66-HOK and I have Birthday Months!! Get with the program!! It's way more extravagant!!
This IS an amazing and well-thought out product that I'm also in love with!Really does the trick and every girl needs to keep her "options open!"I did find that the new Sephora mascara-remover does a good job of getting it off...;)I WANT this chit to last,LOL! I agree that sometimes less is more except when it comes to men and money but you already know that darlin' girl!Wishing you the year ahead that you DESERVE,filled with laughter, health, and love in every beautiful day!Be wild and have a fabulous party!!!
Happy Happy Birthday, dear girl! You deserve all the best. Now I wish you hadn't mentioned this mascara, because I thought I was in love with Diorshow. And now, I feel like I must have an affair with this Two-Timer mascara. I love the idea of having a simple day look that can be turned into Evening Diva with just a flick of the wrist. DANG, I thought this was the month I was going to save money and not buy any new cosmetics. HAH! I couldn't even type that with a straight face!

Happy Birthday! This was a great review. This is an awesome mascara!
A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.

Happy Birthday Meg!!! :)This product has everything I look for as a dedicated member of this site.1) A stamp of approval from you. (You do not often do that.)2) It is ONE product that does different things with two brushes
3) A high rating from many "sisters" on this site.
I am always looking to fine tune and streamline . . . How can I resist?
I wish you a BEAUTIFUL Happy Birthday and that all your wishes (not only beautywise, lol) may come true!!The mascara sounds amazing and I'd love to try it out. One word to the "morning after"-glow: After a night like yours (and I'm happy that you had such fun:-)...) I look more like coffindoll, not like devildoll...and EVERYBODY around me notices it. There hasn't been one time that I got compliments for a hangover look.
Make up your beauty-full mind...www.myspace.com/blackdivaworld
Meg, i just love it, sounds fantastic!

Happy Birthday To YOU!!I have tried so many mascaras...my own eyelashes are so short and thin. I started experimenting with false lashes and now I love them but sometimes its a hassle...I'd love to try a mascara that gives me the long lush, sexy lashes I crave! I'll give this a try because you liked it, thanks for the info Meg
Happy Birthday!!!It's so funny that you mentioned that your friend and Megken both said you look younger when you have little makeup on. My hubby has been saying the same thing to me lately.... argh. I wonder if after a certain age, makeup just tends to look harsh on us. After all, I know that I always wore makeup so that I didn't look like a little kid (I was regularlly offered kiddy menus when I was 18, while my 14 year old brother got the adult menus), but now, I want to look young for as long as I can. When I was in Sephora, buying my Korres mascara, I was playing with makeup from TheBalm line. I should have picked something up because the products felt great and had good pigmentation, plus they've always gotten nothing less than stellar reviews on this site. I guess I'll have to give them a try next time... I really do love the Korres mascara, it replaced my beloved Too Faced Lash Injection, but I will surely give TheBalm mascara a try next.
Happy Birthday Meg. On the 'you look younger when you wear less makeup thing' - I think it has a ring of truth. Today I saw a couple of girls who I thought were in their late 20's - um take 10 years off for their real age. That said, we need balance - I had a 'delightful' boyfriend who raved on how great I looked without makeup, not dressed up, natural blah blah. Well, I ended up looking like a German Hausfrau who'd stopped just short of socks mit Birkenstocks, and he ended up cheating on me with the slutty waitress with waaaaay too much makeup and an indecently short skirt.....a cautionary tale.

i never tried this particular mascara, but i am noticing a definite marketing trend here. So many cosmetic companies have come out with creative mascara wands- vibrating wands, rounds wands like Givenchy, 2-in-1 wands like Guerlain, Japanese brand wands that actually have extra "hair" to make your lashes look fuller... very interesting to read the reviews about all these mascaras...As far as going out without makeup, I have to agree, man prefer more natural look. I dont pile on makeup but I cannot imagine going without a bit of foundation and mascara. But last time I decided to go "bare", I got called "breathtakingly beautiful".... That is not a compliment you get every day, and i, like Meg, thought guy was making fun of me at first :)Have a great party tonite :)
Happy Birthday Meg!!I haven't tried The Balm but I AM GOING TOO. Thank You for the 411. I did a few table dances and a few wet t shirt contests in my life. I came in 2nd in 1 of the contests! I would have been 1st but the winner, known to her friends as "DD" (double D), I called her Kathy HAHA, was willing to do more then show hers thru a wet T Shirt. There is something magic that happens during a night of being a "free spirit".Rock on Meg, Jump on a table, have a few drinks, and as SweetAssGal would say: Glam On!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've heard so much about this brand!! I'm a broke college student so when I go into Sephora its just a bunch of hopes and dreams LoL. I really want to try this stuff out. I'm still in search of a mascara that makes my lashes look "fake" but not FAKE. The closest I've come is Imju Fiberwig, but this review has made me want to shell out the money I don't have to try this stuff. I like how there's 2 mascaras on one thing. It reminds me of mark. hook ups. And it really does help with cosmetic case space. I wish all makeup brands would do some kind of mix-n-match thing. Anyway... I love the dramatic lash look.. I want to see you review more mascaras!
This is a mascara I'm gonna have to try for myself. If it works that well for Meg, it's worth a try. Happy, happy birthday, Meg!!!
Moema....always a Mom first
Ok, I love the Balm. And I love double-ended mascaras. So imagine my sqeaal of joy when I discovered the Two-Timer masckara. The Lance Lashalot end has a cool hourglass shaped brush for really targeting your shorter lashes on the corners of your eyes. Then the other side as a cool brush (like the Tarte Lights Camera Lashes brush) great for separating and adding OOMPH volume. It doesn't run or smudge during the day down your face and is rather water-resistant...you NEED a makeup remover to get it off.Definitely moved onto my list of "Top 5 Favorite Mascaras"
Katie
This may be a dumb question...but what's the the dual sided wand? Is that some magical trick I don't know about?
No dumb questions sweetie! Basically each end of the tube has a different shaped wand. One is for full thick lashes...the other for fine and precise definition. It's totally cool!
Love, hugs and shoes...Angie
Wishing you a early "Happy Birthday Meg". This mascara sounds to good to be true. This is going to be on my next list to sephora. I'm currently using DuWop Venom and I love it. But I can't wait to try this and compare. I do like to wear just enough make up on my face and especially during the day I don't like to be to done up. I do think I look older when I have to much makeup. Sometimes less is more ;-)
Happy Birthday! I definitely need to try this stuff!
wow this mascara sounds hg worthy!! :D it took me a while to realize less makeup looks better and im still trying to cut some things out of my makeup routine, but mascara really is a must!! i think im gonna go buy this if its not too expensive :)
oh, by the way, happy birthday tomorrow! may all your birthday wishes come true :)
Meg, Happy Birthday, I am working doing sleep studies and after sleeping during the day and being really tired, I find myself reaching for a little tinted moisturizer, some cream blush, lip gloss, and mascara, (I usually wear a full face of makeup) and every time I go the minimal way I am told by colleagues and my boyfriend "you look great, you must have gotten a lot of sleep", and it's usually when I get the least amount. I am definitely going to try this mascara, I love the Balm's lip gloss. Thanks for the information.Happy birthday and make next year your best year yet.
Happy Birthday Meg! Great review as always. This mascara looks promising because let's be real here, I really can't get my mascara to work with the kind of wand it has. I love that this has two kinds of wands that can help you achieve the perfect mascara application!
Happy Birthday beautiful Meg! I hope that you are having a great day. Best wishes for the year to come. I had a funny dream about you this weekend -- you threw a very wild b-day party at the castle in the hills! You were very GLAMMED up! I think you look great either way - makeup or no makeup. Depends on the occasion! As for the Balm's Two-Timer -- sounds wonderful! I like that it has a different brush to get those pesky hard to reach lashes in the corners of your eyes.
Happy bday!!! :) This is not what I needed to read!! I am obsessed with mascara, lol. I really want to try this out, I love the idea of 2 wands!!
This mascara looks awesome! Happy birthday, by the way! I love that it gives you two options. I definitely want to check this out!!
First off, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MEG! Hope you had an awesome party!Secondly, I have a problem. I'm addicted to mascara. I am always buying them. I can hardly make it through the suggested 3 months on one tube without buying one or two more. I just got new mascara this month (and last month), but after this review, I may need more. Meg, you are such an enabler! My current favorites are Bare Escentuals Buxom Lash Mascara (hate their foundations, but love their mascara and plumping lip glosses!) and Max Factor 2000 Calorie Extreme Lash Plumper (the British version is called something like False Lash Effect). I have heard that Max Factor will be discontinued in the US in the near future. That's a shame because it's good inexpensive mascara. Covergirl's Lash Blast is very very similar, though. I will have a cocktail (or two...) in your honor today, Meg!
Magnificent Megastar of Meg’s Makeup! I am sitting at my desk at work, decked out in a iridescent pink party hat, wearing a hot pink sequined halter top and some soft pink spandex biker shorts with matching pink anklets and pink sparkling tennis shoes with pink shoelaces that have feathers on the end all because I know YOU are all about PINK! This is my personal tribute to your day today honey! Ok, truth, IF the H.R. department of this place didn’t frown upon tributes to friends which involve wearing specific unauthorized clothing – I would be wearing such an outfit so that you would have birthday representation in the State of Minnesota! All I can do instead is keep singing … “They say it's your birthday..We're gonna have a good time…” while I spin like a whirling dervish on my desk chair!!! Sounds like you already DID have a great celebration! Did any National Inquirer reporters get actual photos of you during your naughty and wild birthday exhibitions? I’ll watch for your face next time I’m in line at the grocery store and the tabloids are screaming their lurid headlines…Hopefully there will be nothing like …”L.A. woman reveals freshly died pink hair on her private area during a forty-five minute birthday marathon of doing the splits alternating with headstands while being escorted around to several nightclubs with mysterious male!” Happy Birthday you beautiful maven of Pink!
On to the two timing BALM mascara discussion! This mascara is pretty good! I used the regular shaped side first and was very VERY pleased with the results. My lashes separated nicely and they actually DID look longer! I have small lashes. I didn’t have any clumps (we women don’t want clumps or lumps on any area of our bodies when we think of our images). I use the normal looking side the most. I tried the other end a few times (I hadn’t realized at first the purpose of both ends) and just thought to myself…when one end dries up I’ll switch the brushes out and just use the brush end I like the best for on-going purposes. I like the fat end the best! The other end brush looks to me like someone had a rubber band around the bristles for a long time and then one day took it off which resulted in a hinked up looking brush. Funny that someone thought…if we kinda mess this brush up and make it look like somebody has already been using it for years, the result will be that you can use it as a ‘specialized’ effect brush! Kinda crazy! But that's just me! Whatever works for your needs is what you want to use! Maybe somebody realized that women who are in love with their particular brand of mascara will hold on to that same mascara tube long after it should have gotten tossed out! Maybe they thought, 'if we make at least one end of the mascara wand look like an old tried and true brush' to begin with, that we'd have a hit on our hands!I still remove all my mascaras (including this) with extra virgin coconut oil – I just can’t say enough how great I think this works for mascara removal of any kind! Never ever any stinging! Plus I feel it keeps my eye area hydrated and it lasts and lasts for ions! I really liked this mascara but I probably will stick with what I can buy at Target or Walgreens which is more affordable to me. Right now my favorite is Neutrogena's Healthy Volume Mascara which I purchased recently for $7.39 at Target. I alternate between using that and The Balm and feel happy with both results!
Jeanasina!
How much is this thing?
The Balm is $20.00.
Jeanasina!
I've been hearing so many great things about thebalm. I definitely need to try out some of the products when I have more cash. This mascara will be at the top of my list :)
I've been looking for a new mascara forever, I cannot wait to try this one!
okay, after reading your review, i am srsly tempted to go out and buy this mascara!! i have tried many mascara brands, but am still searching for my HG..
