MAGIC OF ALOE HONEY ALMOND SCRUB!

Goddess Granny here or what's left of me in this sweltering South Texas heat! I feel a bit like the Wicked Witch lying in a sodden heap muttering "I'm MELTING" to any poor munchkin who will listen! It's been 100+ for well over a week now and no matter how you color it,that's flippin' hot!
I'm grateful for the small comforts: ice cubes in everything, frozen fruit, James Perse cotton tanks ,(the best skimpy but bra-friendly cut ever!) unlimitedAC with a thermostat I can jockey up and down (husband Mike's pet peeve!) and cool cucumber melon scented baths! This hothouse flower doesn't go anywhere she doesn't absolutely have to these days
This kind of soggy boggy weather wrecks havoc with my sensitive skin: I do still go to the gym often but when you're living in a constant state of stickiness and sweat, even the most perfect complexion can suffer.
I am a huge fan of scrubs, suds, and lathers of all kinds and cannot stand "low-lathering" anything...I need to FEEL and SEE that stuff I'm using is working although I do realize that today's tech can work miracles without visable proof. Sometimes though less really IS more...
Simple white plastic jar...very basic label with cute little aloe graphic...brief "how to and ingredients" label...not much to look at but you cannot judge this humble jar on it's looks alone! In this market of hype and over the top packaging, one would have to think that either it contains something "average" or that maybe, just maybe the product has been SO perfectly edited and perfected that it dares to enter the public eye without announcing it's arrival in a red-carpet sort of way?
Think of it as that devestatingly beautiful woman who "downplays" her assets in order to be taken more seriously...she KNOWS she's got it so why be arrogant about it
! She's that confident in her abilities and allure.
Magic of Aloe Honey Almond Scrub is one of the products created by the Magic of Aloe company, founded in 1971. Yep...in this day of "don't blink or it's gone" products and companies, they've been producing one of the finest lines of all natural and organic skincare product lines on the market for that long.Aloe is one of the main ingredients and who among us hasn't at least heard of this juicy green plant and it's noted healing properties?:
"Aloe is the ultimate skin care treatment. It soothes, it softens and it moisturizes. These aloe vera products have the ability to penetrate the water-retaining layer of skin allowing the enzymes with in the gel to slough off dead cells, which aids in restoring the complexion. This enzyme activity has been observed to reduce and eliminate scars, liver spots, age lines and other marks and blemishes. A person with troubled skin needs the high quality therapeutic cleansing and moisturizing of Magic of Aloe product line, which includes aloe vera based moisturizer, aloe vera lotion, aloe vera gel, collagen cream, aloe vera based cosmetics, and aloe vera hair care. A person with good skin must not take that blessing for granted. Skin that is not routinely cleansed and moisturized with quality treatment products such as Magic of Aloe will show the wear and tear of father time."
The site is very straightforward and basic and they offer sampling programs as well as specials and discounts, gift certificates, and even distributorship programs. You can even purchase their finely-crafted products wholesale in plain packaging to add your own "private label" touches to,an amazing plus for anyone who's interesting in carrying some amazing natural products in their salon, spa or other sales venue.
When I first opened my jar of Honey Almond Scrub I wondered if I could taste it: it smelled THAT good, very creamy.moist, and fresh and the "signature" ingredients are simply: aloe vera gel, corn starch, kaolin, (natural clay) corn meal, almond meal, and honey...what's not to gobble? Well...not so big on clay-snacking but the rest certainly would taste nice enough
The texture is soft and souffle-life but it has a richness to it that rivals MUCH pricer products.
They suggest you use the scrub twice a week to "remove blackheads and impurities caused by an abundance of oil secretion" or in my case common crud...I scooped a bit out and honestly used way too much the first time, a little goes a long way as it spreads so well...it's very scrubby but not at all harsh. I applied it to a damp face and I liked playing with it so much I left it on for a bit sort of like a mask and scrubbed at it here and there! They suggest leaving it on for 10 minutes and using a circular motion to apply. I tend to play with my products. It smells SO good and it's totally non-irritating,just leaves a very smooth and clean face behind when you remove it with a warm cloth and water.Lovely all the way around...
A very simple, fresh, ad honestly lovely approach to deep-cleansing that my sensitive skin LOVED! Nothing high-tech or with ingredients I can't pronounce, just a beautiful combination of nature's finest ingredients combined in a simple way that works and is a joy to use! Other companies promise and promote "purity and simplicity" but Magic of Aloe in all it's rather homely glory is the real deal in a plain white jar!
Great pricing and they offer an amazing assortment of products which I'm sure are all as equally nice in their results.
I for one along with so many others currently am all about editing and simplifying my life and my stuff these days: I want only what is real and right, what works and what is quality and this company, with their "old school" approach to products and ingredients is cool in this respect without even trying.:)
Are you also into getting back to the "basics" of beauty these days? These products a GREAT place to start! Who else felt the Magic with Magic of Aloe?

goddess granny-- I totally feel the same way about products that don't lather! That was one of the reasons I didn't like Cetaphil at first (clearly, it doesn't clean my skin if it doesn't lather... and I def need to use a better [lathering] cleanser first and then Cetaphil cleanser to really get my skin clean!)But I read an article in Women's Health magazine a while ago and wanted to share it here--it says that the lather is just added for psychological reasons! (well, it works... haha). The article talks about shampoo but I'm sure it's similar for face wash!"Shampoo myth: You need lather to know it's working...MYTH."http://www.womenshealthmag.com/beauty-and-style/shampoo-myths

bluedevilkitty, I was going to post the exact same thing! I bought a huge twin pack of Cetaphil at Sam's Club, and was disappointed that it didn't lather. I know the lather doesn't affect the actual cleaning power of the cleanser, but the lather is so satisfying! Even though it works ok, I probably won't buy it again because of it.
I have been using this 2-3 times a week since Meg sent it to me a few weeks ago and I love it so much. It makes my skin feel so smooth and I love how simple the ingredients are. It smells DELICIOSO! I totally look forward to using this when it is Magic of Aloe day again! i love how you can still feel the smoothness of the aloe gel spreading across your face even with the grainy texture of the exfoliating almond!
Oh yah and everyone that has this, BE AWARE...that it doesn't tell you this on the label of the actual product, you are supposed to leave this on for 10 minutes! I wish they would add that to the label cause I was just washing it off like normal until I saw on the website that you are supposed to leave it on. I feel like I wasted half of my jar before I knew that piece of info!
I adore this scrub. It is amazing. I admit that the simple packaging threw me off at first. I thought how could this innocuous looking tub of stuff be that big of a deal. Looks certainly can be deceiving because this honey almond scrub is so sweet that I like Winnie the Pooh would get my big butt stuck in a hole to get some! It is fantastic! I have very sensitive and extremely oily, acne prone skin. I am often doubtful that a scrub can do anything other than irritate my skin. I am so impressed by the simple and straight forward ingredients found in the product. And when I opened the jar up I was blown away by the delightful and not overpowering scent. Every time I use this my skin is instantly cleaner, softer, and clearer. And it really soaks up the oil. It is nothing short of a miracle product. I only wish that I could use it every day. I absolutely recommend this scrub to anyone. I fully intend on purchasing it when I am out. And I would really love to try some of their other products. Thanks Meg for sending me such a great surprise!
This stuff sounds GREAT!!! I want to try it.
I just went to their website to look around. They will send you 4 free samples if you are willing to pay for the shipping cost of $3.95. However, I tried to order them for 15 minutes but, kept getting an error message that said:Sorry -- This order form cannot be processed. The merchant identification is missing or invalid. Please inform the merchant of the problem.I will try again later.I think I differ from many people on this site. I could care less about what the packaging looks like. I care about the results and recommendations from others. If there is a product that is in a plastic tub or even a plain mason jar that works I will try it.The streamlining for me is a work in progress.
This scrub sounds really nice for sensitive skin. Doesn't LUSH have a scrub that uses almond meal as its scrubby bits? I've always sort of wanted to try that one, but am wary of LUSH because of the expiration dates on their stuff -- I don't think I scrub often enough to use it up.
I probably would have probably passed up this if I saw it sitting at the store. I'm one of those people who is completely drawn in by packaging, probably not the smartest philosophy, but hey..Anyway, this sounds pretty fab. I completely agree about lathering! If something doesn't lather I pretty much cast it aside as something that won't work very well.Enjoy the heat that you have, it's been raining my part of the country non stop for the last month it seems :P
Honestly with the bottle being so basic in the store I would've passed by it without giving it a second thought or a chance to be tried out. But after reading this review I have to say I am curious!
My maternal grandmother from Austria had a truly green thumb and there was nothing she could not grow. Her mother had put moldy bread on infections (also known as penicillin in later days). My grandma would cut into the leaves of her many aloe plants and apply the sap to our injuries as children; there was no stinging, no screaming on our end, and almost immediate healing. You ladies are right--the packaging is unimpressive. Actually, I thought it was something Meg might want me to handle as a Drugstore Deal (a very inexpensive one). But it's sublime. What I shock I received! I went to the site and will purchase other items because of the performance of this. Although I have been out little this summer, there has been a noticeable change in my skin, and this has helped me to feel totally cleansed, clarified, and smoothed, with no "ouch" factor. Excellent review, GG!
I just LOVE the smell of almond and honey. There's a hand soap with those 2 items as the main ingrediants so I know what you meant about it smelling so good you want to eat it.
I'm not so sure about the 10 minute mask part of this product. I'm impaitent so if I used it I don't think I'd always add on the extra 10 mins, but aside from that everything sounds really nice!!
www.JenniferSuarez.com
You had me at aloe, and then you had to add almond and honey? I don't doubt you wanted to eat it -- it's a freaking macaroon. I've just placed my order.
South Texas Heat? It can't be that much worse than WEST Texas heat!! It's been over 100 every day this week! You start sweating the SECOND you step outside. Just plain nasty. I was definitely in need of some facial refreshment last night ... and some exfoliation to scrub off all the grimy nastiness from my face. Yikes! I reached for this lovely potion - sort of a cross between a hydrating creme mask and your everyday exfoliator. Which, is basically my two favorite types of treatment products rolled into one. It really smells like almonds and honey and it left my face smooth and refreshed. I like the simple clean packaging. The lovely natural smell of the product and the great results. This little beauty has edged its way into my twice weekly routine!!

This scrub looks like it would really work. One of my friends have this and says it works really nicely. If I got it I would use it quit a lot! It looks like a fabulous product. A very useful product to a !
I love Nicholas Jerry Jonas! He makes my heart melt! ♥
This sounds like such a great product! I'm on the site right now looking around. I'm a sucker for scrubs, and I too am living in 100+ degree temps. I tried to order the sample pack, but received the error "The merchant identification is missing or invalid." I'll try again tomorrow maybe.
Yes, I'm definitely going back to basics! I believe nature has some amazing ingredients to offer and I'm taking full advantage of that. Although I haven't personally tried this product, I believe in it because its ingredients are pure and simple.
So, how does this compare with Suki's exfoliating lemon stuff? I'm just about out of Suki, and I'm wondering if I should try this instead. While I do love the Suki scrub, it's not inexpensive - and since it's not carried here, I have to order it online and pay a lot for shipping. Those of you who have used both, please let me know what you think. Thanks!
Carole
If you have access to fresh aloe, this is a great mask. Juice a small piece of it, add a tsp honey and enough oatbran to make a paste. First I leave it on for a while, then I add a little water, and rub it into my skin for some exfoliation. You can also rub a little of the cut leaf onto spots and scars....

Fresh aloe is sheer heaven. You would not think it is readily available in gritty, techno Manhattan, but virtually every corner Korean grocery has a few stalks tucked among the veggies and fruits. I try to keep some in a glass with an inch or so of water in my fridge, ready for burns and cuts. and of course it can literally turn sunburn into no-burn overnight. Love it! Used to be the beach at my sister's home was dappled with bright green from all the bottles of aloe vera gel tucked into beach bags, but this year the populace has apparently wised up to the news that the dinosaur green color was actually a dye. Now the bottles are all clear, bubbly and refreshing. I just worry one of the toddlers will try to down it like a pop.
Goddess Granny! I was reading your review this morning and ironically the radio was playing "Highway to Hell!" LOL! I couldn't help but think that's where you are in your 100+ heat wave town! I am a complete fan of anything that smells like almond!!! In stores, if I see lotion that says 'almond' on the label, I do the covert thing where I open the the container to smell it and then accidentally touch the stem of the lotion pump with my finger before closing it back up again. While putting the container back on the shelf I apply a 'heavily debating and considering' look to my face. Then for the next 15 minutes I walk around smelling the place on my hand that is now enhanced with the secret teeny touch of almond lotion. Yes, I'm sure store cameras have caught my shady behavior but so far the store undercover police have not sought me out. Most times I do go back and actually purchase the divine almond smelling product I have officially subjected to my sniff tests. Sometimes almond and honey is a bit strong for me and honey lotion alone doesn't work on my skin. I would love to try this product however and based on smelling commentary above...I have a feeling I'd have to steal away for covert smelling sessions alone! I HAVE to smell everything before I buy it! One time I got pay back though! I was in a grocery store in the winter and had on a nice wool coat. I was in the bodywash isle and as usual contemplating which product to get based on my enhaling of the fragrance tests. With body wash, I open the nozzle and gently squeeze the bottle and a nice 'whif' of fragrance comes to my waiting nostril and I can make a determination. But on THIS particular day...payback was, as they say, a bitch! I leaned down to do my usual stealthy squeeze for a fragrance sample when SPLAT, a large amount of the product flew up into my nostril and then fell back out again all over my nice wool coat. MORTIFICATION! There was nothing to wipe my nose and coat off with either. I had no tissues with me - nada! Did I learn my lesson? Naw. I still covertly smell stuff before I buy! I am not alone in this I have observed! I even see people spraying things like Fabreeze and odor preventing products right in the isle before they buy!
Jeanasina!
I've also tried the Suki Lemongrass scrub and it's fabulous...a bit "abrasive" for me,I think it uses sugar for an exfoliant? It also hardened a bit quicker in the jar than I liked for the price but it's an amazing product. Can I say that this rivals it in everyway and honestly does as good of a job for me? ;)
As to the taking it back to nature products that I use and looooooooooove - oh man, don't get me started!!!!!!...Just this morning I used one of my all time favorite masks! There is a CM Naturals company that also has a Masque Apothecary with natural based products that excel in what they do for your skin! I just used one of my favorites - a Chocolate & Papaya mask! Officially it's called "Cocoa Noir Chocolate Antioxidant with Papaya Enzymes"About this particular mask: "This clay based mask is formulated with dark cacoa. Cacoa is rich in antioxidants and high in natural fatty acids, which help to nourish and soften skin. Added papaya enzymes lightly exfoliate while honey helps skin attract and retain moisture. While we never add synthetic fragrance to any of our masks, the natural cacoa aroma in this one provides a decadent facial experience that will make your taste buds jealous. The best part? This mask contains no parabens, preservatives, synthetic fragrance or dyes." It comes in a powder and you just add water and put it on until it dries and then....OH BABY - You know what I like! It leaves your skin in great condition! I'd love to try most all of their masks according to my skin type! Check out their website! They have a yummy sounding coconut & honey mask! They have a 'calming' facial with Aloe and Chamomile and a CoEnzyme Q10 facial antioxidant with Aloe and Honey and many others!! This review today...speaking of honey & aloe of course made me think about some of the ingredients in the CW Natural's Company fabulous facial products! Have a look for yourself! http://www.masque-apothecary.com/products.html There are great reviews to read also! The customer service is off the charts great! They really want to use their natural products to have YOU obtain the results you want and everything I have tried from CM Naturals has been outstanding!I think you will find that the CM Naturals company, also, as Goddess Granny states, meets her criteria and maybe yours too, in saying "I want only what is real and right, what works and what is quality and this company, with their "old school" approach to products and ingredients is cool in this respect without even trying.:)Goddess Granny, as I write today...I am also holding up a lighter which is lit and swaying back and forth to honor you and say "I'm a huge fan again today of you and your reviews honey!" OX to the highest power!
Jeanasina!
mjsred, the great thing about the Suki scrub is that it can be used straight, as it comes from the jar, as weekly-or-more-frequent scrub, but also as a cleanser. You put a small amount in your palm, add a little water, and work it for a few seconds. Immediately the texture changes into a very sensitive-skin-friendly frothy wash for daily use. I usually keep the jar in my shower for Tasks I Do While Trying To Keep My Conditioner On for 3 Minutes.[edited because while sin-friendly sounds intriguing, skin was in the intention.]
Waving her Bic back at Jeana: BOY...are WE dating ourselves,LOL! Nowadays they hold their $500.00 "smart phones" in the air for atmosphere,LOLROF! AC/DC is my fav band of all time :BTW I used to love dancing to "She's Got The Jack" until husband burst my bubble (it's got a HUGELY sexy back-beat! )and explained what the words meant...leave it to him to lead me back into reality,HAHAHA!I'm also a huge fan of CM Naturals and am clicking on you link NOW!!! HUGS!And who insists her girl Joan IS a "HOT MESS!"LOLROF! (Recently we worked out the definition of this "trendy phrase" with the help of my 11 yr. old grandaughter. :)I have some Suki past it's prime and WILL use in this way, thanks so much...who KNEW genius could be had in 3 minutes or less? :)
Okay...just ordered the choco masque...what a GREAT selection of masques!I'm absolutely positive I'll love this too! We need to get her to share some of these products with the reviewers here and do an entire segment on them for her! Such natural and amazing products! I did the glycolic creme from CM Naturals a while back I think? This is a little company with amazingly effective products!
Mjsred, while you are baking in that Texas Heat, I'm over here sweltering in the California Desert. It is dry, hot and I am parched! I love finding the perfect tank, thanks for the reference! I love AC/DC too! I'll flick my Bic to them, with you and Jeana any day-good times! I NEVER overlook or judge a product anymore based on packaging alone. I can't believe what a sucker I used to be. I am in need of this lovely little jar of goodness. I now know, the more simple and pure the product is, the better it works on my complicated, sensitive complexion. Thanks for the useful Suki Scrub tip Tantejoan, I can't tolerate it straight up, a bit to harsh for me. Great review!
Mmmmm... I'm a sucker for things that smell good. Scrubs aren't really my thing though. Too bad. Maybe they have a regular cleanser?
I live not too far from the Magic of Aloe home office, and a long time ago went to a demonstration that a friend had at here house, I remember loving the products. Thanks for reminding me about them, I am definitely going to check them out again.
Excellent review! I love AC/DC too! :) Actually we were playing cards last Saturday with friends and we all agreed that AC/DC was the best band of all time ever. At least we all agreed on something Aha.... I LOVE this scrub. It leaves my combination sensitive skin so clean and so soft. I have to admit I've been using it more then twice a week. My skin as been really oily lately so I've been using it every other day and it hasn't irriated it, it feels better. The smell is divine. I will for sure buy this again actually i do want a take advantage of 75% on one product on orders over $25, that is a great deal. Compare to suki? I LOVE LOVE my suki scrub I thought I couldn't live without it but when this came in the mail when I had just ran out of Suki so it replaced my Suki until I get a new jar. They both work great for my skin and I love them both and will keep buying them both ;-)
A scrub made specifically for oily, blemished skin?? Visiting their site NOW, especially since I'm moving down south in the fall. My excitement for escaping icky cold weather is slowly being replaced by a fear of 100% humidity and sweltering summers.. what was I thinking?? :PAnyways, I've had bad experiences in the past with scrubs that only seemed to aggravate my acne-prone skin, but this combo of aloe and honey almond (mmm), sounds like it could be exfoliating + soothing. Thanks for the rec!
tantejoan, "you had me at aloe" That made me laugh out loud! Definitely the best play on that line I've ever heard.

The bottle packaging is boring (I'm a sucker for cute packaging) so without reading this review I would just pass it by.
Okay - ACDC puts on the best live show! I received three free tickets, took my early teen son, and realized when my date took him for a snack, that the girls flash for the camera. He missed all of that, and arrived in time for the cannons to go off. Whew! I'm still a good mom....Now for the pure ingredients for sensitive skin - I'm going to look for the samples. Thanks for the tips which aren't listed on the label. I'l be leaving it on while I condition my hair. This site is the best!
I so agree about the lathering thing, I had a hard time using Cetaphil because it didnt lather. I have been on a mission lately to turn my whole regimen "all natural" so this product sounds great!! I too live in Texas where it is 1 million degrees and my face always feels like it is suffocating in this humidity. I imagine this product smells delicious!! I have horrible oily skin so I am so getting this!!! :)
OK, I just want to plant a thought in the Mind Palaces of all you lather gals. (And can you guess what blond Aussie charmer uses that image in his hit tv show?) Lather is generally the antithesis of all things "natural." That which makes a cleanser lather usually has ingredients whose names do not appear in nature. I cannot recall passing a Laurel sulfate bush, for example, on my last visit to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. For example, here is a list of the ingredients in Aveeno's "all natural" Clear Complexion Foaming Cleanser: Butylene Glycol, Disodium Lauroamphodiacetate, Xanthan Gum, Water, Sodium C14-C16 Olefin Sulfonate, Salicylic acid, Propylparaben, Polysorbate 20, Phenoxyethanol, PEG-6 Caprylic/Capric Glycerides, PEG-16 Soy Sterol, PEG-16 Macadamia Glycerides, Methylparaben, Isobutylparaben, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Protein, Glycerin, Fragrance, Ethylparaben, Disodium EDTA, Butylparaben, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Citric Acid. Granted, some of these are less chemically than others, but you get the picture. So, seriously, as a former lather addict, I have trained myself to think when I approach the cleanser aisle, not "frothy, billowy and sudsy," but rather "gentle, dissolving and melting." It's a big adjustment, similar to going green or using the metric system, but I promise you, even the oiliest of oily-skin beauties can get a thorough, refreshing beauty routine without benefit of suds. Just ask those among us who cleanse with oil. No frothing there.
Good points Joan, all made with your incredible wit. You continue to slay me. I personally don't care about lather I just want something that works without being terribly toxic to me or the environment. Lather, schmather!!
i also want something that is good for me but also the enviroment
I am off to the website now. I just have to try this scrub after reading such a well written article.
My scrapbook shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/elle71125
I love this scrub, I use it 1-2 times a week and it makes my skin so soft!
Great deal, thanks
i love the assortment of the both products !!!
Fresh aloe is wonderful for cuts and burns. It is one of the best plants to have in your garden because in a pinch you could just run outside and break a leaf. Then you just apply the sap directly to the wound. It also makes a great mask. All natural and pure. It's right up there with honey as a wonderful natural remedy.
Oooh, I love using honey!
this sounds so nice i am going to the site now to order this, im a bit put off by the fact that it doesnt lather but apart from that it just sounds divine (clearasil doesnt lather so i always use it then use a lathering face wash-just psychological?! not sure but i def dont feel clean without lather! regardless of that i aam still going to order this right away, great reviews x
I promise you that your face will feel very clean after using this. It is remarkable how much it cleans out your pores. I like it better than products that lather. I think that you will too. BTW-Lather is usually a result of bad chemicals in a product. No lather is much healthier!
Everything now-a-days seems to have alloe in it! I love it! I love alloe! I went to the beach one day, and it was foggy, but not foggy enough to block out the sun and keep me from getting a sun burn. And well...i didn't put on any sunscreen. So i went home that day with a really bad sunburn all over my face, neck, and arm. And alloe saved my life! No, it just helped the burn soooo much. i put on like 5 layers of it before i went to bed, and i woke up in the morning to see the burn faded sidnifigantly (sorry, im bad at spelling :P). Sorry, that whole story was pretty much beside the point.....Anya
I too absolutely love anything and everything with aloe in it. We actually have heaps of aloe vera plants growing in our garden too, I tell ya, nothing is better for sunburn than FRESH aloe vera!I am growing to love honey as well, I never liked it much before but with all the benefits it has how can I not want to use it?!
This product sounds amazing. I love aloe, it's so good for scaring, and I'm into a more natural look.
