OLAY'S NIGHT FORTIFYING CREAM!
Gigi here! Would someone please tell me that there are no product application police? I was kidding last week when I referred to the St. Ives patrol, but shopping for skin care can become pure hype. Yes, I was born at night, but not last night!
It was hard to control my annoyance with a saleswoman at an Estee Lauder counter recently. Where do they find these Stepford types? I am hooked on their CP+ serum and wanted to purchase it. The saleswoman asked, “Well, you know you absolutely must use this particular cleanser beforehand, don’t you?” I pasted on an obedient smile and said, “Certa inly.” Then she said, “Well, then you must follow with this” and tried to sell something else. I lied smoothly and said, “Oh, I have that” (and I also have eighty dollars along with the $55.00 for the serum which gives me more guilt that the nuns in my elementary school). She would not relent and “The last step to be used right before bed is our newest item.” I almost fainted at the price. I wanted to ask, “And what must I use at 3:00 a.m.? Do you have a bank in mind which I should rob?” Her facial features disappeared and all I saw was the word “COMMISSION.”
A friend of mine with flawless skin told me she enjoys Olay’s “Night Fortifying Cream” (a generous tub retails for around $14.00). Swamped again by the number of moisturizers on drugstore shelves, I wanted to destroy the display of this item simply because of the name, telling me when to use it. What—did I need ten other creams for this to work as well, one to layer every so many hours? I saw an opened container of it and read the label—no other products were mentioned. That was a surprise. And then I sniffed. And sniffed. And kept sniffing like a dog trained to detect drugs—Heaven! It has a delicate, slightly floral scent. I bought it.
The B Vitamins included serve a few purposes. They keep skin hydrated and plumped. At the same time, they speed the exfoliation of dead skin cells, resulting in a quickly refined appearance. Even those with Rosacea have benefited from their use, as ruddy areas are made far less visible. Aloe has naturally curative powers and soothes. Green Tea does the same but also takes on the role of protecting your complexion from the sun when infused in creams, as it is in this.
Olay’s cream has a lightweight texture and soaks into your complexion quickly. I wondered why they recommend it as a product for night, but that may be because of the huge trend in mineral makeup (just a guess on my part). Choosing a moisturizer to wear under these powders can be challenging, as it may cause the powder to coagulate and collect in creases (of course, none of us have any, but this advice is for family or friends of ours who may). I had an instant silky, non-greasy feel. It remained weightless and I remained supple and soft.
The ingredients will not cause blemishes. It works for women with oily, combination, and sensitive/dry skin. This is a bargain, especially if you spend time in the sun or water (beware chlorine). I used it on what I fear is becoming my “turkey neck” and my hands. They were softened and polished! Benefits accrue over time. I’d like to thank Olay for not promising the moon. It is a delight. Pardon me, as my alarm went off. I need to apply something, but I can’t recall what it is.

I'll definitely recommend this to my mom! Thanks Gigi!
So Gigi, are you telling me that us oily/acne girls can really use this? I would love to put on a night time moisturizer and not wake up looking like the Exxon Valdez had a spill on my face. I am intrigued.....Great review BTW. You always make me laugh while feeding my brain. You make learning fun! I would tell you to consider teaching as your profession if it wasn't already!
This is intriguing to me. I usually can't wear things like night creams because they're just too heavy. I end up a crazy, greasy, pimply mess. This one sounds nice though, if I could actually wear it. I'm still a little apprehensive because 99.9% of these things cause acne. It would be nice if this was an exception.
Gigi, thanks for the fabulous review! After I go through my 324563521 other face products, I will be hunting down this one! (Seriously, I get talked into buying face stuff so easily...) And I agree with you about salesladies and face products! It drives me CRAZY. Like the time I went to a makeup counter which will not be named... me: "So I can use this makeup removing cleanser all over my face?" saleslady: "Well, I actually wouldn't use it on the eye area. I'd get our eye makeup remover for that." Well, it was true, because the facial makeup remover will BURN YOUR EYES LIKE CRAZY... but really now, what's next? A makeup remover for cheeks only? For your forehead only? And goodness knows I need a special one for my nose--all those pores need some special makeup remover love!

I love wearing night cream and I'm almost out. I have been using Burt's Bee's Radiance and it is very nice, but I like to play the field. I also have the Burt's Bee's Pomegranate night and eye cream. I haven't seen fit to invest in a high end night cream. It seems like a good product category to settle for a drug store deal. Thanks for the great review!

Well put Gigi! Enough is enough, we are too savvy to be fooled by someone as transparent as the lady at the makeup counter, aren't we? Well, I am NOW, didn't used to be so good at standing my ground. I hate the way it feels to get taken by women like this. I love when you show us something that works well and won't require us to take out a 2nd mortgage to achieve beautiful skin.
GiGi! It is good to hear from you . . . I hope you are still feeling better. I have to wonder what these sales people are thinking when they are SO PUSHY. Do people really fall for this?
Personally, When I am trying a new brand or something new I like to start small. I buy one thing at a time and see how it reacts with my skin. Don't get me wrong I would love to try the entire product line at the same time. But, problem skin and my budget veto that impulse. I try to be as practical as possible in this economy.
I also like that this product works for everyone and will not make your face break out. Something that works for all skin types is great! I could pack this for a trip and have all my bases covered.
This product really sounds wonderful, but I wish that Oil of Olay would stop testing on animals so that I could reap the benefits of their products.
Olay is so amazing :) This sounds like a good product - thanks!
omg i hate when salespeople pressure you and try to act like it is not for their comission! When they push me too hard, after I have said no several times, I will actually say something because I think it can be borderline rude sometimes how they act!
Hmmm. I can't decide if I would like to try it or not. I have oily skin and using night creams - well it's just too much. I wish I could get like a sample pack from the drugstore or sephora's of small little jars from a variety of night creams so i could sample them long enough to show some results without committing my money to something doesnt affect my skin.
GG....I swear you are taking "funny pills" and I mean that in THE nicest way girl! Your reviews lately have been cracking me up!!!I am a fan of Olay: they offer solid technology at a mostly affordable price! From time to time I use and enjoy "whatever" in their line strikes me and you have hit me head on with this product, pencing it in now...I also went to their website and signed up: I get nice coupons and samples from time to time. :)I am SO over counter people...I worked for Chanel when it first arrived in the US,we were the "black smocked elite"(they provided our "Chanel -style uniforms and BOXES of products,it was a GREAT job for a couple of years!!!) and it would have simply been "indiscreet" to suggest products to our coveted clients! We gracefully applied like maniacs and made them up to look like divas...THEN when they looked in the mirror and gasped (along with the help of the beautiful indirect lighting in the Chanel booth,LOLROF!) they'd ask ME what I used and I couldn't write the tab up fast enough! The promise of results sold products! :)I am weary of the bored "attitudy" bunch at the counters these days and simply don't feed into them.I say things like "I'd like to try product X and my budget today is Y...what do you use and like in that price range?" Makes them focus because it becomes "about them" and not about me so much and I get my way! :)Now please know that Mac and some other companies offer amazing training and it shows in their professionalism. If you work at a counter,PLEASE stop applying your own makeup when I speak to you??? No chit: I was at the Dior counter buying my foundation and the young man never took his eyes off the mirror and continued to apply his eyeliner as I told him what I needed...PLEASE!!!I also have Meg's now so who needs to dress up to go buy a lippy???I can get advice on line and shop that way too now! Great as always and OLAY Ole' to you beautiful girl!!!
sounds good for mom
Some of those "sales-women" are too scary...Oil of Olay is my favorite Drug Store Deal. I aways have on hand the Gentle Foaming Facial cleanser and the Olay Complete all day moisture lotion SPF 15 for normal skin.. My grandmother used Oil of Olay, the pink cream in the little jar was always on her vanity and my mother uses it too...I feel like I am continuing a family tradition
Sorry Gigi: I tried this product and used the whole container and felt it was only okay. Not great, not bad, just did nothing for me. I can't say that I would recommend this Night Fortifying Creme though several of their other products are wonderful.

Your are so funny Gigi! Great to see you writting reviews. I agree enough is enough... How many containers do we need. I like a simple routine, I can't be bothered with too many steps or I just want do it. I don't have a night cream a the moment I just use my daily cream at night. Maybe I should check this out? I've been cautious of night cream cause I too will wake up with a face ready to fry some eggs on it. ;-)
Gigi, I love your reviews! The dept. store counter scenario was soooo familiar! Anyway, I've been using the Olay Night cream for several weeks now, and I like it. While I am faithful about using a day moisturizer (SPF!), I hardly ever used anything at night. I know, I know... it's probably against the law for a woman of my age to omit it! But now I'm reformed. I use the Olay, it's not at all greasy, and I think my skin looks much better when I wake up.

Thanks for the review! I love how Olay anything smells! Seriously what are those sales people thinking? Haven't they gone thru it?

Hmm I'll have to try it. Oh btw, don't dry your hair in the shower, just making sure you know one of the other big common sense things. Like, the night cream stuff.
Ah, Gigi! So many choices, so little skin. Well, given the advent of the dreaded turkey neck for me as well, perhaps not so little after all. But the problem is, with so many creams and lotions and potions to test, how does one make time for a new and economical alternative? The truth is, ever since joining this wonderful community, my face has become a veritable proving ground for a myriad of cleansers, toners, day creams, night creams, scrubs and the like. I find myself standing in front of my bathroom mirror, frozen in the face (no pun intended) of all these choices. When that happens, when I cannot decide between luxury lotion A or bargain-basement B, I do tend to reach for an old, reliable standby to ease me over the speed bump. I reach for something Olay. Now, of course, I am tempted to go forth and add this to the mix. And I can resist anything but temptation. Where's my CVS card?
Oh Gigi! You are just divine! I laughed and laughed at your review and I'm still smiling like a major goon! It sure would be fun to have you in the same room listening to your stories or even better having you apply the products you discuss to our faces with your glorious explanations and teachings of how to best to use the products! The best was..."Her facial features disappeared and all I saw was the word “COMMISSION.” LOL! I'm still working on the container of Olay night recovery moisturizing treatment you recently recommended. I love the fragrance of this product and look forward to putting it on every night. I can't say that I agree with the writing on the jar which says.."for the look of a mini-lift every morning." I think my results have been pretty good but not awesome. Your review today of the night fortifying cream of course makes me want to go out and at least try that as soon as I have used my last dollup of my current Olay for night cream! I love the price! What I'm truly looking for is a cream that I can afford that I put on before I go to bed. Then, the next day, in the morning, when I wake up and go into the bathroom and do the 'just before I go to the bathroom' peek in the mirror to see how bad things look...it's at that moment that I want my eyes to bug out like in the movie MASK because they are seeing a remarkable change and I see my old skin that I used to have miraculously transformed at last! That's what I keep hoping to see. What I do see from most night creams I use is that at least...things are pretty much the same and haven't gotten worse. Worse would be bad. Really bad.
Jeanasina!
Gigi - great review (as always - we know to expect the best from The Best). I love Olay - it's great when you are low on cash, but can't afford to skimp on skin-care. Much Love

I love how Nina says that she will recommend this to her mom. So young! So cute!
Hmmm, I'm not usually impressed by the promises of night creams, but this one struck my interest. Might be worth a look.

I think I have reached the age where I should bite the bullet and start using this product. Even if it means I can share it with my MomMom.
I don't use night creams. They are always thick and makes my face oily.
I want to try something like this but I am afraid of the reactions my skin may have. I have been dealing with acne forever and I don't need anything breaking me out. I will still be looking at the package, when I head to the store.

I won this product from Allure last year and was very surprised by it. Like you, I have a fear of turkey neck...even though I'm 25, it sometimes depresses me how I obsess. Anyway, I used this and did not experience any issues like I have with other night creams. No break outs, no irritation, very light weight and decent smell. Good stuff!
I so agree with you about those rude counter ladies at the department stores. Especially Saks Fifth Avenue, sorry, but gotta name the name. I love the store with all my heart, but the counter girls need to CHILL!! It's not just there. It's all of them. I am glad I tore my credit card up from Saks, no thanks. I don't want to pay a 20% department store interest rate when I can just use my Visa. They were ridiculous. I used to shop there frequently and when they would see me coming, I actually overheard a fight over two grown women saying, "I was waiting on her first!! I swear if you try to take my customer you're going to regret it." No lie!! Once I heard this, I walked away from the counter and decided this is LOUSY customer service to have to overhear this kind of stuff. When you're just in a brousing mood in a department store it never, never, never fails that you always have some schmuck come over and ask, is there anything I can do to help you, yadda, yadda, yadda. Same old story!! Anyway, yes, I know it's part of their jobs, but jeez, it's like you have to tell 100 people as you're either shopping or just brousing, NO I'M JUST LOOKING!! Believe me if I need their help, I'll ask. They're vultures waiting for their prey. This makes the department store experience not so much fun. There were times when I just said, enough, stop asking me!! Sometimes you just have to. What do you want me to say? So I'm not Mother Theresa...

I love Olay's products. I'll definitely have to get the word out about this little product.
i might have to try this one as well! olay is such a good reliable brand at pretty good prices! :D
I've been looking for a good night moisturizer. I've been on this moisture kick since I turned 30. Wish I started sooner!
I love this! :) even if i think my face is too young for this
olay totally rocks. I love their products. www.lingsblog.wordpress.com
