MEG UNDER ATTACK-IT'S OK! ALWAYS GOOD TO BE NOTICED

Wed, 07/01/2009 - 12:41am
  • Miscellaneous

Meg here! I have to be upfront, I am a nice person. I'm not tooting a horn or anything but I am Nice. Forget to ask if my table would like water (who cares) forget to ask if we want refills (mad) guess what? No matter what you're still getting at least your 20% because waiting tables is a bitch and you deserve it.

I, for some reason get hate mail. I love it! Hate mail means you are noticing me and I struck a cord. I really don't know how anyone could "HATE" little ole me-but whatever-not going to get me down.

I was at a very fabulous Hollywood pahtay tonight and was feeling like I just didn't belong until some strange duck sent me an email asking "Were you born a woman?"

Hate email? Well, Dahling, with that you're accepted into the celebrity golden circle. Once you can gloat and pretend to be upset over all of the "Negativity towards you-Don't they know about Africa?" Over caviar and Dom you've made it.

I am important enough to have some crazy bat email me on my gender? I know I'm not born a male..But.. WOW! HELLO CRAZY!

Thank-you to the thoughtful writers that said I had a double-chin or was a "Dumb-ass" or the thoughtful lady that said I was "A MAN"

Nice gals do usually finish last so for every mean thing you can say about me makes me more relevant. For that I can never show enough appreciation.

For the record-I have had the same friends since 5th grade. I volunteer at animal shelters and if you called me in the middle of the night I will pick you up.

Unfortunately, even in this safe place (that I have always tried very hard to keep positive.) Negative people will try to burst our feel-good bubble and I am sorry.

I'm sure you've had it in your own life. Great relationship? Great job promotion? Amazing children? Gorgeous new house? Yes, the jealous haters rear their ugly heads!

Don't ever explain what you've worked for. Don't ever apologize for trying to achieve. Pity the mean spirited soul that would take time out of doing something positive with their life to try to make you feel bad about yours.

I want all of you to write down something you are proud of! Do it! It will uplift your day and allow us all to feel safe expressing a proud moment! Don't let these doom seekers win! SHARE!

Meg, I am very proud of you. You're a lovely lady. You followed your dreams in spite of opposition.A lot of sites have very negative people. Megs Make Up has people being loving and supportive. Women loving and helping other women w/ out the catty eye scratching and back stabbing. I could say things I am proud of in my personal life, but, I would rather tell you, Meg, I am proud of YOU and your efforts and accomplishments. I am so proud of the women on this site, and we wouldn't be here if it wasn't for you and your dreams. You're the best!

The internet is a breeding ground of holier than thou and negativity due to the anonymity. I wish the psychological world would come out of their ivory tower and really study internet behavior. I would love to read a good book on it. Maybe I should launch my own study and write one. What am I proud of? I'm a first generation college student. I am the only person in my family- ever- male female or otherwise- to even step foot on a college campus. And I paid my own way through both grad and undergrad. And I will put myself through my doctorate. My parents didn't want me to go. My grandmother told me I was wasting my life. I've been taught in my eduction to reject the idea of being a "bootstrapper" but it's a bit hard to reject the idea when I did it. I grew up with nothing. My utilities were regularly cut off and I went hungry a lot of nights. I grew up in rural Appalachia where the best I was supposed to hope for was a husband that didn't beat me, some kids that weren't too rotten, and for my husband to have enough money that we could buy our own trailer. Not that living in a trailer is bad, nor having children. But it wasn't what I wanted. Women were actively encouraged as children where I grew up to fear the "outside" and avoid education. I don't mean to sound as if I am bashing the culture, but it's a really negative environment to grow up in as a female child. I suppose I'm proud that I managed to find my own way in it, appreciating the good and recognzing the bad.

Were you born a woman?  Hells bells, Meg, I can see from 3,000 miles away that not only were you born one, youve done your best to be the best woman you can be.  And, apparently, succeeded, because nobody sends that kind of idiotic hate mail to someone nondescript.  You so are descript, babe! What am I proud of?  I have been a professional fundraiser for 30 years, and in that time I have helped wonderful, generous people do great things with their money.  Conservatively, in those 30 years I have been able to raise, on average, $2 million each year.  And together with my wonderful colleagues in the six not-for-profits I served in that time, we all raised billions, with a "B."  So, today, right now, obsessed though I may be with all things to make us beautiful, the most beautiful thing I do is help the best doctors, scientists and staff in the world treat people with cancer.

Its always surprising how someone can start hating on the nice people but really they are so insecure and jealous they can't help but hate. I agree when you start having haters you know you've made it! Congrats Meg! You are a wonderful lady and you do such wonderful things for us! you don't have to put things on record for us to know all the wonderful things you do! Let the haters hate! It gives them something to do!

Meg, you are such a great woman! You handled the hate mail beautifully!I am proud that all my bills are paid each month and I have a great apartment to call home for myself and my boyfriend. In this economy that puts me ahead of the game a little. I see people living around us losing their homes and it makes me so sad. I am also proud that my boyfriend will be graduating with his associates in September and will continue for his BA. (he's 33)

Meg, I love how you always seems to take lemons and turn them into lemonade! It was a great idea to turn your negative experience into one a post that asks other women to look at positives in their lives. And you are a woman's woman. You are not only gorgeous. But you job is based on supporting women every single day. Thank You!*I, like Satil come from a family and community that doesn't exactly understand higher education. They often see it as people who think that they are better than them. This makes many people in my family and community nervous and uncomfortable. You are seen as a little freakish here if you have a degree, do not have children, and have been married for a long time. I fit the bill on all of these. But I am extremely proud to have obtained my BA with a double major in History and Sociology. I had to work full time while doing it. It was very difficult and took a long time because it had to be done untraditionally. My husband and I did it together. He earned his BA in Sociology and Psychology. Now we are each earning an MA together as well. And perhaps we will continue to the doctorate level. We are both so proud of our educatuons. But we never feel that it makes us better than anyone else-just better than our original selves! A degree wasn't a piece of paper for me. It has really signified internal groth as a person. And that makes me so happy.*But the thing that makes me the most proud is my very happy and successful marriage to my husband. It will be 11 years on July 11th. Marriage is a lot of hard work. But it has been the most rewarding experience of my life. I am so proud of our relationship. People said that it wouldn't happen. We met randomly on the internet. It wasn't on a dating site. No one believed in us. But we did. And I am so proud! We hope to have children one day. And I imagine that we will be even prouder of that.*Ok-I just remebered something else that I am super proud of. I spent over a year of my life working for the Obama campaign. I have never so fully devoted my self to an outside cause like that. This was extremely hard work. I worked the Ohio campaign. Which as many of you know was extremely crucial and incredibly difficult. But through all of the trials and tribulations I was given so many great gifts. I realized how wonderful people really can be. And how people really can come together for a common cause and make the impossible happen! I think that the work that so many unlikely people put into that election made a nation proud regardless of their political affiliation. I am still doing work with the organization. Now we are on to health care! Thanks Meg for reminding us to be proud of ourselves and that we matter. I guess it really gave me a shot of self-steem this morning!

Wow - what great stories from everyone. congratulations. I'm proud of the fact that a couple of years ago, I finally got to the point where I really didn't care if people liked me or not. It goes further - if certain people actually liked me, I would be very concerned that I was doing something which flies against my beliefs - because God knows I don't want to be hanging out with bigoted, arrogant assholes. Btw - there are a lot of people, women especially, who in my experience cannot stand you if you are 'nice'. I remember going on a trip with a 'friend' - she was infuriated that I always tipped, and that I chatted to the staff at the posh hotel we were staying at. She believes 'they' shouldn't be allowed to look you in the eye, let alone greet you. If the waitress asked her how she was, she would look the other way WTF???? Needless to say, she is now an acquaintance.Well Meg - why didn't the idiot write to Perez instead of you? Now that may really have gotten you some publicity....

This is the best response I've seen to yucky people in a long time and I wish you could see me giving you a standing ovation. What am I proud of? Running my house, taking care of my hubby while he and I are both going to school, working full time, and trying our hardest to pay bills and be happy. I am proud that I take the time to care about how I look, and I don't care that people hate me because I am thin-I work out, or blonde-I color my hair because it's pretty!, or because I love makeup and use it to my advantage. Don't hate on us girls!

I'm hosting an 18 year old French student for the next couple of weeks so I can "trade" and spend a couple weeks with his family in France in August.  It came to me as a great opportunity as usually these kinds of "international" thigns cost a lot of money.  And just because this 18 year old happens to be a BOY my boyfriend just wont shut up about it!  I just can't understand why, if he loves me (which I know that he does!) he has to be so jealous and can't be happy for my grand opportunities.  I learned to speak fluent French via middle school high school and college and a semester abroad and I am so proud of that.  Why does he have to be angry that I am using the opportunities that come up to better myself!?!?!?

it probably doesnt matter whether we are famous or not, we will be getting hate mail, hate stares or hate talk-behind-your back at least once in our lives. People whose life is more public will receive a better share than others. Unfortunately, it is just a human nature, though I do believe that people are good inherently. I had to go thru some rough times in school, since I was making the best grades and I was not as rich as the other students (it was an elite school, not in US)... as a kid, it was very difficult to handle, but we are adults now- so we should be able to brush it off and focus on better things in life

You should be proud of your accomplishments Kate! Your boyfriend while probably a great guy otherwise, obviously feels threatened and insecure about the whole situation. How much interaction has he had with this student? Perhaps the more he interacts with him he will understand that this a non-issue and that he should just be happy for you. I have had numerous exchange students live with my family-guys and girls. There was never any funny business. And I have so many life long friends now. And it often translates into opportunities such as you are having. I got to go to Japan because of an exchange student relationship. And my husband and I have recently been offered the free use of a Paris apartment because of a "French Connection". Life is too short not to experience it. Your boyfriend will likely calm down and be happy for you. Give him some time.

People say nasty, negative things because they don't like themselves. It all comes down to that. And rather than look within and change what it is about their lives and themselves that is making them so miserable, they would rather try to bring someone else a little misery, so they feel less alone. Jealousy is so unattractive.

It really sucks that people like to "try" to hurt others by saying mean things, just for the pleasure of hurting someone else.  This world is difficult enough to live in without hearing the negatives from others that didn't even have to be said.  I've met you.  You are nice.  You are real.  And you're definitely a woman...and you started out that way. One reason I like the idea of Stylemama writing on this site is that she can be who she is and doesn't need to pretend.  This is a site of "being who you are."  A site of "being real".  People can disagree about things on this site, but here you are ACCEPTED for it, not ridiculed.  So, for those who "get off" by trying to hurt others, there are plenty of other websites to choose from.  There are plenty of them that you can go to so that you can fill your appetite by preying on others.  Now, if you may have any jealousy issues, self-esteem issues, or other insecurities underlying your need to try to hurt others, then you will find alot of people on this site more than willing to share their own experiences and to help you out and to support you.  A good lesson I have learned (and probably Stylemama told me this);  if someone says something negative about you, but that "someone" isn't anyone you would ever ask advice of anyway, then that's someone's opinions you need to remain far away from.

If you find your happiness, your joy and live harmonious, your not going to want to say bad things about others, instead you are going to concentrate on your joy and not waste your precious time here on earth. I am pretty proud of stylepapa right now.  I admit, I struggle with this issue.  Guilt is like my shadow BFF!  But, one thing I know I can be proud of is the kind of mother that I am.  No matter what, I do the best that I can with them, everyday.  Even when I fail, I know it wasn't for lack of trying. They are like little lights in a sometimes dark world and I know one day they will take all of this love and all of the effort that went into raising them and turn it into something truly amazing. They will go out and love as they were loved and treat others with kindness and respect.  For me, motherhood is the hardest but definitely the MOST rewarding job I have ever had.   Seriously, the hardest.

Whew--where to start here?  Lulu, I love Dr. Dyer.  He advises to "Never let anyone rob you of your music" and I love that.  Congratulations, Meg!  You are only hated when you've been kind and talented enough to evoke envy.  People often mistake kindness for weakness and the two could not be more different! Take a bow; you ARE nice, Meg, much nicer than I will ever be.  When I grasp how hard you work for us and what benefits I have reaped from the women on this site (and the products, always secondary), I am taken aback.  But I refuse to be envious; I learn.  Sweet Jeanasina knows me well; she is cognizant that my mind is a CD player with no shut-off button and I type like the wind, so don't hate me for this, please.  I'm begging here.  My head is going to explode anyway!  These song titles and lyrics came to mind when I read your post and the brilliant comments which followed and are meant for all of you:  "But of all these friends and loversthere is no one comparies with youand these memories lose their meaningwhen I think of love as something new;though I know I'll never lose affectionfor people and things that went before,I know I'll often stop and think about them; in my life, I love you more . . ."~ Beatles, "In My Life""You didn't have to love me like you did, but you did, but you did, and I thank you . . ."~ ZZTopp or Sam and Dave, "I Thank You""We all need someone we can lean on . . ." ~ Stones, "Let It Bleed""I love you in a place where there's no space or time; I love you for my life, you are a friend of mine . . ."~ Leon Russell, "A Song for You""Blessed . . ."~ Elton John"The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return . . ."~ Nat King Cole, "Nature Boy""I can't quit her . . ."~ Blood, Sweat, and Tears, song by the same name"If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed; it's just a spring-clean for the May Queen . . ."~ Led Zeppelin, "Stairway to Heaven""God only knows what I'd be without you . . ."~ Beach Boys"I love the way you work it . . ."~ BLACKstreet, "No Diggity""Stand"~ Sly and the Family Stone"I'm in Heaven when you smile . . ."~ Van Morrison from "Jackie Wilson Said""She will be loved"~ Maroon Five, song of the same name"Gravity, stay the hell away from me!"~ John Mayer, "Gravity"I'd better quit . . .

I am proud that I have come to love myself unconditionally and have learned that only you have power over yourself (favorite quote "nothing external to you, has any power over you" ralph waldo emerson) and that like you, I don't allow the negative stuff to bring me down but build me up. You're a stellar lady miss meg and this just shows how your inner beauty matches the outer.

Meg honey...even if you DID start out a man WHO CARES!  You're smokin' babe!I'm proud of how far I've come in my life starting out with very little.  To put it bluntly I grew up just poor white trash.  Mom and I never had any money and yes...we lived in a trailer for a while.  And not a trailer park trailer...I'm talking a 30 ft travel trailer!  But as Momma taught me we were always clean (being poor is no excuse for being dirty), we worked hard and we were good people.  I didn't get to finish college but the three years I went I supported myself completely and I've never relied on anyone else to take care of me. I'm fiercely independent and that's one of the first things my husband loved about me.  I have IMPECCABLE credit because I always pay my bills, prioritize my money, budget appropriately and I've maintained my mortgage despite all the houses foreclosing around me.  When the chips are down I'm always there.I'm also intensely proud of the relationships in my life.  I've had a lifelong friendship with Jen, Ruth and Adele and it wasn't always easy.  It's like I have three wives!  But I adore them all and good or bad...they are always there for me.  I can say with utmost certainty...when its my time to go to God one of them will be holding my hand.  I am also very proud of my marriage.  I can honestly say I married the BEST man.  Perfect...no.  But never a better father and husband was put on this earth.  He moves heaven and earth for his family.  Most divorced men I knew just saw their kids every other weekend and let the mom do all the work.  Not Frank.  He's always been a full time hands on dad.  He does all the hard part with the kids.  He's police and protector and though the kids may sometimes not like it...I know when they look back they'll appreciate it.  I'm also proud of my relationship with my kids.  I know I didn't give birth to them but over the last 9 years I've come to regard them as mine and I don't even think about calling them "step".  Sometimes I have to for clarification because people get confused...I'd of had to been pregger's in 10th grade to have them!Last...I'm proud of being a part of Megs.  I've always wanted to write but never had any confidence in my abilities.  This outlet has really helped me gain confidence (THANK YOU everyone for your support) and has helped me blossom creatively.  And this is just the start!

Love, hugs and shoes...Angie

As one of Meg's best friends, I assure you, every word she says is true. When she told me about this last night the first thing I did was laugh! How sad that someone takes time out of their day to try to make someone else feel bad? Their life must be just sooo wonderful....Ah well, Meg, you rock, you're hot, you're successful and the best bestie a girl could ask for !

It's crazy how some people go all out for these comments. Mine is short ^.^! I am proud of my straight A's and I really can't think of anything else.So you only got one hate email? With one sentence?? There are so many better ways to bring down a person! She is definitely jealous and cowardly.

After loosing 2 best friends and another so-called friend to exes I have learned that people have no standards.  Even people you think you know.  You can only live in the moment and forgive/forget or ignore.  A dear friend of mine told me about a book called "What you think of me is none of my business"  I haven't read it but it sounds like a winner to me!  All you can do is live your life an listen to yourself.  You know whats right for you, for whatever reason or situation.  I recently walked out of a yoga class because it was a level too advanced for me.  Not because I hated the instructor or was trying to be rude.  I simply did not have the physical strength to not hurt myself and knew it was not the place for me.  I am flexible but not as strong so in lieu of hurting a shoulder I opted to just leave.  Yoga is one of the most loving and wonderful places to be so, naturally they understood that I know my bodies limits.  I think knowing yourself is much better than being told by someone else who you are.

I am sorry this happened. From what I can gather you are a nice person Meg, and, I have noticed something in this life, that nice seems to attracts attacks, and I do believe it is always envy.  When I have been attacted, I have to remember the words of a very wise woman who said, "you take the high road."  So I endeavor to do so. Sometimes it is a wee bit lonely, but, mostly not. I know I don't get motion sickness or anything when I travel this road.Blessings to you, Meg! It is easy to say ignore them, and harder to do so, but, just consider the source. Another wise woman, my Mama, who just surprised me today with an incredible 21 inch flat screen monitor for no reason at all, always said that.

I have been the object of another's hatred for many years (my sister) I used to think "what have I done" or "what can I do to change so she won't hate me" but you know...I'm not the one that needs to change, I'm not the one withthe issues. Don't ever let the haters get you down, your a beautiful, intelligent, witty woman!

Three things I'm really proud of:1. My 2 girls. SO far, they are bright, polite, outgoing, beautiful and charismatic (for a 2 year old and a 4 year old). I like to think that I had a lot to do with that!2. I have a Master's Degree! That's right. I've got a post graduate degree and that's my favorite part about filling out surveys! 3. I own close to 70 pairs of shoes. When I was a kid, my family was poor. I owned 3 pairs of shoe at any given time while in school.

You're super awesome!

I have read what you lovelies have written. I have been inspired to share something about me.What I'd like you to know about me: I was 32 when I got my high school diploma and went to college. All of the people that said "she didn't even graduate HS" then had to try and find something else to dis .People hate what they fear and admire. when you're hated as much as loved you have probably succeeded!

You're awesome!I'm proud of getting through an appendectomy successfully this weekend. I'm proud of taking off my bandages on my own even though I get really freaked out by anything where I might see blood or cuts or stitches. I'm proud of getting through my first year of college with a decent GPA. I'm proud of being the first person in my immediate family to go to college. I'm proud of the loving relationship I've created in the past couple of months even though there were many barriers in our way.

I am proud to be a single mom of three. Though not easy there is not a day that goes by when I don't look at them and think how blessed I am. Proud to not give up when my husband left me ( my youngest was 13 months old) It was them that kept me going!Proud to take steps toward fighting depression and anxiety and learn from my experiences and others. Proud to have the most amazing compassionate friends that were hand picked by me. They lift you up when you feel down and call it as it is. Proud to have found this site. Admire the beautiful lady, MEG... ( and I mean that in every sense)  and so many amazing uplifting compassionate people.Artcandy

I am proud to be surrounded by strong women who know themselves, their boundaries and who chase their dreams with abandon.  I love hearing from women who are principled, live with integrity and value themselves.  You all are women worthy of respect.  I love to read your thoughts.

Maybe, with this crazy question, there is another question:  Who is born a woman?  Girls are here first - loving, intuitive, creative, and intelligent.  Then, they grow into women, who do much of the same thing, but with realization - that we are another gender, different than a man, who can also take a sip of the cup of power, make more money at times, get paid less overall, laugh, and still adore being a girl.  You go girl!
