MARCO PELUSI SUMMERTIME HAIR TIPS FOR GUYS AND GIRLS!

Meg Favorite Marco Pelusi hair giving all you summer babies tips for your hair! It’s summertime, and most of you like to wear a brighter color in your hair – even you guys out there may wish to go a bit lighter. Oftentimes a lighter coppery red or reddish tone is a great choice to add into your color during summertime. A color change such as adding red or lighter colors sometimes seems to fade more quickly than the regular blonde or brunette color that has already been done. As a general note, any kind of red color is the first to fade, because red contains the largest dye molecules. Whether you’re a redhead, blonde or brunette, if you are going even a bit lighter/redder, you should always ask your stylist/colorist what he/she could do to prevent hair from premature color fade. This may include leaving the color on a bit longer or mixing up separate formulas for the base, mid-shaft and ends. Be sure to ask if he/she is doing a typical “pull through” or using a fresh color formula. Ask if the formula will be on the mid-shaft and ends and for how long. Then you need to evaluate which haircare products you’re using at home and you need to make sure that your products are specifically formulated to repair and moisturize, as well as prevent hair from premature color fade. Lastly, as a general rule, you don’t need to shampoo as often which will help retain your hair color for a longer period of time.
Along the same lines, when you guys and gals go lighter and/or redder during summertime, many of you have eyebrow tone or eyelash tone that needs to be adjusted to match the new color. It is definitely possible to tint either or both, and this is a procedure I recommend for a total look of beauty. Eyebrow and eyelash tinting is very easy to do but I do recommend going to a salon rather than doing it yourself to ensure that your color is in sync and to ensure safety. For eyebrows, it’s about a 15-20 minute process. For eyelashes, again, it’s an easy procedure that takes approximately 20 minutes. The color lasts between three and four weeks and fades gradually on-tone.
During summer, should you choose to lighten your previously color treated hair, you need to prevent your hair from becoming dry, especially at the ends. The longer the hair is, the older the hair is, the more dimensions/levels of color/chemicals are on the hair, and longer hair doesn’t have the benefit of sebum or hair oils produced at the scalp that keep the hair shaft healthy and shiny. It is a matter of using really good restorative products, which is why I specifically designed the Marco™ Collagen Color Guard™ HairCare System. The first and only complete collagen system exclusively developed for color and chemically treated hair, the Marco Collagen Color Guard HairCare System is specifically formulated to prevent premature color fade and create the most positive, therapeutic environment for the hair and scalp. Always remember that shampoo is for the scalp and conditioning is for the ends. When you condition, you need to allow time with the conditioner on the ends of your hair. The concept is just like moisturizing your skin. It’s important to not over shampoo the hair because it dries out the hair shaft. All you really need to do is shampoo your scalp and let the shampoo rinse down the ends.
These are just a few tips for you all to think about for the warmer season, and to maintain the quality and integrity of your hair while doing so. Happy Summer!
Who is going lighter and brighter for the summer? I can't speak highly enough of Marco's Color Guard System! It really is the best to prevent fading to color treated hair! A MUST! Who is with me hair!?

Great tips Meg! I have been thinking of some highlights to lighten up my look for the summer. I went a little darker for the winter. But I am having a hard time deciding what I really want done. I hate fake looking color. I really only like to do it twice a year so I want it to fade very naturally. And I hate the brassiness that so many highlights seem to take on after awhile. I have been trying to give my colorist some good examples of what I like. I am leaning towards Leighton Meister(Gossip Girl's Blair) or Jennifer Garner. I think that they have super natural looking, yet pretty highlights. And of course I have to wait for a cash infusion to do this.I am really excited. My Grandma is turning 80 in the next week or so. So I am trying to collect from the family enough money to get her hair professionally colored and a mani/pedi. She colors her own hair. She is such a fantastic person and one of my best friends. I thought that she really deserved to at least once in her life get the royal treatment. She is just so sassy and vibrant. I hope that I collect enough to get the whole thing done. She is going to be so surprised!
I went a little bit lighter for the summer. I've been auburn for awhile, and I've been SLOWLY trying to lighten my hair at home. It's been taking months, but I've finally achieved a dark blond/light brown goldeny color. It's pretty. I've been taking it slow hoping to not completely wreck my hair. Also, I'm pretty much lacking the funds to go and blow $200+ on my hair to make it blond and pretty. So, my home results are going to have to do me for awhile. Hopefully in a month or two, I'll lighten it up again.
I've gone quite a bit lighter this summer. I have so many blonde highlights that a few friends had to do a double take. Is that Dawn? I've had a lot of fun with the new look. I don't need to wear as much makeup to look pulled together so it must be a decent match for my skin tone. My stylist recommended using Redken's Blonde Glam, Pure Pearl. A color-activating treatment for ultra-pale blonde highlights. I don't have ultra-pale blonde in my hair but is still helps prevent the brown color she uses from fading into the blonde bits. "Make sure you only use it once a week," or it could cast a funny tint to your highlights", she cautions. It really works, the blonde highlights look nice and bright and last really well in between appointments. However, I would love to try anything by Marco Pelusi, he is a Hair Color God!
The Redken Blonde Glam, Pure Pearl is great. I have White-Blonde hair and I use this. I love it. It's so funny you mentioned about the funny color. I had purple hair once from it. LOL It washed out in a shampoo or two. This product definelty keeps the color bright and refreshed.
A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.

I was just at my stylist last Friday and I went lighter too for the summer. She did chunkier blond hightlights, I really like it. And I got more long layers put in. This is a great review, I'm going to make sure I pay attention to my shampooing and conditioning from now on and follow these great tips.
I've been brunette for a year now and I'm thinking of going back to my regular blonde....but a sandier version of it. Not so BLONDE!!!!!! My friends don't like me brunette. They say its just not Angie.
Love, hugs and shoes...Angie
The past few summers I did go lighter, from my regular milk chocolate brunette to a sandy brown. This year I am keeping it brunette, only because it looks healthier and matches my skin tone better. Also, because I hate to see roots of any kind. I have been using Pureology and it does seem to make my color last longer. I am kind of a late-comer to the Pureology bandwagon. I tried it for the first time a couple of weeks ago and I think I am in love.

I am currently getting my hair foiled with three colors. A dark brown chestnut, another brown and some blonde. I am lucky to have a GREAT lady as a stylist. I always tell her she has proxy over my hair because she makes good decisions. I have been having her do my natural color around my face because I am getting some hints of gray coming in. I am chemically dependent and sometimes wish I could go longer than every 4-6 weeks to get things touched up.Any tips for ladies who are starting to get some gray? I wish I could find something I like that helps me in between visits.Product wise, I have a bad scalp so I have to use Nioxin for color treated hair.
I'm always blonde, so there won't be much of a color change for me... but I did get my eyelashes tinted a year ago (I have blonde eyelashes). It irritated my eyes so bad. It was nice having dark eyelashes for a change, but to spend $25, plus tip every 3-4 weeks is a no go for me right now.
Super review! My hair's a little lighter this summer, mainly because my color has faded and I've just not gotten around to getting it done. And about the highlights... I'm letting my grays masquerade as highlights. It's not really working though...

This amazing advice is greatly appreciated! It was ingrained on me that one's hair had to be washed daily--I think that began in junior high school. One day last year I was washing my clean hair and thought, "Why?" When I use products like Lush's "Big" or some of their shampoo bars, my auburn remains intense. Lush's "Jungle" conditioning bar can be warmed by your skin and worked on through ends, thus also serving to save your color and save you time. I used color crayons for highlights, even rinses like that made by Roux. Dior used to make hair mascara for highlights in gold, red, etc. I'm not sure if they still do, but someone has to do it.
Hey Meg...great article and I love the tips!! I am getting my hair highlighted tomorrow, I am a little nervous and excited! My hair color is a darkish brunette and I am getting reddish golden highlights~low lightsi get butterflies just thinking about it...
My stylist told me at one time to use a Goldwell foam to keep color rich between visits. It worked. Now that my hair is currently in its natural color, I take vitamins which help my hair grow out in a nicely-saturated color. The vitamins are called "Hema-Plex," and the mousy color of last year has left, and the texture seems less fine.
My hair is a really deep brown that looks almost black indoors but shows its true color in sunlight. It's really hard to add color to my hair because it's so dark so I'd rather keep it the way it is. Thanks for the shampoo and conditioner tips because honestly I have been doing it all wrong!
I usually go red on the summer but I'll stop that. It's a pain to take the red out when you want to go back to any other color. It always ends up with a red undertone.
i have dark brown hair and i was always afraid to get highlights- i want them to look as natural as possible, and i always get the worst haircuts.... So for now i am not risking my hair, and just going with my natural color
I want to raise my hand like you did in the classroom and say "Pick me! Pick me!" for Marco's Collagen Color Guard product!" Man I know my hair would be a great candidate for THAT! I was born with dark brown hair and for years would go to a color expert to make me dark auburn because I love love LOVE red! I started coloring my hair so long ago I can't even remember when it started! The two hair colors I have enjoyed the most are when I am a blonde or a red head! I know I won't ever go back to being a brunette. The older I got the more I wanted light around my face (thus the blonde) but being a redhead gives you SO much more warmth and again, as you get older you need warmth to give you more color! For a long time I would be a blonde with red lowlights and currently I am a blonde with brownish lowlights weaved here and there. Because my hair is SO colored, whenever I have low lights added it always fades within weeks which is always a bummer! Stylists always comment on how strong my hair is and for 61 year old hair most think my consistency is of a much younger woman (how great is that?) Even if the face is falling, the hair is still workin! I'm sure sometimes from the back people think I'm much younger and then I turn around and people possibly think "Holy Crap!" I can tell you that my one and only Marco product (color smoothing gloss) ROCKS! It makes my split ends appear non-existent! I love always having more than one color in my hair - it gives it SO much more dimension! Lately on other women, I am completely drawn to hair that has about 5 colors in it! I absolutely love FOILS and all the possible colors they come in! I wish foils were not so expensive - I'd have them put in a lot more often. In my lifetime I have attempted to foil my own hair! I have tried kits and even have gone to Sally's beauty Supply and purchased professional foil papers, color etc. and gone home and given it a shot! SOME of my foils turn out and others...the one thing i CANNOT master is not having the color I am using on my foils bleed onto my other hair! Nine times out of ten of my foiling attempts - I'll wash it out and there will be big globs of color in places that blatently tell the world that this was another AT HOME foil job done in somebody's basement! I'm bad because when I want to get some color in my hair, I want it NOW...saving to get it done in a month just doesn't cut it!

Just have to say tinted eyelashes are the best. My mother was very glamorous, and had no hesitation in doing what needed to be done - she started having my eyelashes tinted at 7. I went to a private school where makeup was definitely Verboten, and prefects would constantly make me wipe at my lashes with a white tissue to see if I was wearing mascara - I'm so fair they definitely stood out.
I might be going lighter. I can count the number of times I have dyed my hair on one hand. My hair is naturally blond. My hair, even a few short years ago, used to be so blonde that people were very envious and thought for sure I dyed it. My hair was naturally this glorious blonde color. In the past couple of years my hair has gotten progressively darker. I know that happens to a lot of people, but it saddens me. My hair naturally is a dark dirty blonde/very light brown combination now. I still love super blonde hair, so I dye my hair sometimes back to my original natural color; that color that everyone was so envious of. I've also been thinking about dying my hair brown, but I'm not sure. I know it is hard to keep color from fading sometimes. There are so many products out there now that claim to help strengthen hair, keep color from fading, and so many other things. I have yet to find really good products for color treated hair. The marco pelusi line sounds like it could be a winner though. Next time I dye my hair I think I"m going to try this, if I can remember that is.
Thanks for the awesome tips! That was really informative and helpful :) I'm trying to embrace my natural hair color (which is dark brown, almost black). In the past I've done lots of fun at home highlights (blond and red streaks)... which was fun but high maintenance. If I ever decide to do it again, I'll have to keep these tips in mind, and I'll definitely want to grab one of those Color Guard systems!!!

I used to color my dark blonde hair red for years, and then gradually started to go back to a lighter version of my own color. However I soon discovered that no matter what color I used, it always came out oxidizing to some form of red. That's when I stopped coloring my hair and began to highlight/lowlight it instead. Perfect. No change, just the inevitable roots. Most recently I have been getting my hair done by a wizard, Lydia, who has taken me a little lighter than usual, especially around the face -- almost all the way back to the color of my childhood. I love it. The only thing is that when I stopped doing my usual short, layered look and grew my hair out into a one-length, chin-length bob, I discovered that my hair is now baby fine. Who'd a thunk it, I who have so much hair, just corn silk fine. Lydia's trick for color-treated hair is now my own: don't wash it often at all -- not every day and maybe not more than twice a week. Instead, just use conditioner in the shower and rinse really well. I shared this tip with a girlfriend who protested "Oh, no. My hair is too oily, I must wash it every day." Turns out she took my/our advice and was amazed. It makes sense: if you strip the hair of its natural oils, the body will go into overtime to replace those lost oils, creating a vicious cycle and oily hair. I think it's similar to the concept of using oil to remove makeup on oily skin. Once the over-cleansing stops, the oil production slows down.
I've always wanted to go lighter for summer.. but I've been told by a few hair dressers not to dye my hair since I got it chemically straightened. Disappointing...On the subject of eyelash and eyebrow tinting, as a makeup artist I do both. I'm always having clients requesting this as an extra. It really does make a huge difference and is so quick and easy. Always make sure that before getting it done you have a patch test done though, some people do have bad reactions to it.
These are all really great tips. I think I'm going to get some red highlights or either lighten my hair a little. I really just desperately want something different, and your tips are perfect for me.
Great tips!!! I always stay darker in the winter and lighten in the summer. I love getting caramel highlights in the summer!! :)
I want to comment on the picture. The woman looks gorgeous. Her make-up is on point, not a flaw. Her hair looks bomb. ITs all healthy looking and shiny with volume. Wow. Great Job!!

I've been thinking about getting highlights this summer. Thanks for the tips!
I dyed my hair red last summer and it just faded right out in 2 weeks. This would have been a good article to have around...lol.
