ULTA 64 PIECE MAKE UP KIT! SORRY WE HAD A TECHNICAL GLITCH! SO SORRY! UGH! REPOST!

SharonD here! This has been an exciting week for me. I became a grandmother to the two most adorable little babies on Tuesday. I named them Mopsy and Flopsy. Nope, not rabbits, deer. The mother deer chose a quiet corner of our yard under trees and shrubs, smoothed the area and moved the mulch to make a sort of hollow. Next morning there were two little spotted fawns. Flopsy was up and running, but Mopsy was having problems. She fell asleep on one of the steps on our deck while Mom and Flopsy took off. The Wildlife Department told us to not go near the fawn and the mother will come back for her. Mom did come back and encouraged Mopsy to move and she staggered to another place and fell and wouldn’t move. By morning both fawns and Mom were gone. Today, Mom and twins were back. They were as tall as the back knee of the mother when born and now they are quite a bit bigger, maybe about 6-8” taller.
I am a person who loves eye makeup and am constantly trying to get that beautiful doe eye look. A friend kept trying to convince me that the train cases from Ulta are the best deal for the money. If you go into an Ulta store and ask for their brand, the clerks act shocked. They give you that look that says if it doesn’t cost a fortune it isn’t worth it. My friend finally sent me the spring version of the 64 piece Ulta Makeup Kit in a silver jewelry case to prove to me that she was right. As usual, she was.
The case opens to two levels plus a mirror and a lower level drawer. The top shelf has six sets of six different eye shadows. These shadows are both matte and shimmers, go on smoothly, blend beautifully and are long lasting. I find these shadows are equally as good as most of my much more expensive brand name ones.
The second shelf has two lipsticks and one lip and one eye double ended liner pencils that you can take out and carry along. Eight shimmers and nine rich colored lip glosses finished this layer out. Again these products worked like they should. The pencils didn’t tug, the glosses were packed with moisturizer and went on smoothly and the lipsticks were color drenched and creamy.
The pull out drawer holds two more glosses that you can pop in your purse, two bronzers and 3 blushes. These colors worked perfectly with my skin. They are blendable so you can get the exact color to match your skin tone.
I have had the best time playing with this Ulta Makeup Kit. I used my own brushes because the brushes that came with the kit are not to my liking. This is almost always the case with any eye palettes and in no way deters from this wonderful kit. I used the colors as they are, mixed, blended, and even used them wet. To really test them, I put them on at 8AM and had a full day of errands, and then mowed the lawn, went for a walk, cooked dinner and around 10PM they were still looking great. That had to be the hardest test I could give and they performed. The spring cases are no longer available, but do keep your eyes pealed for the winter cases soon to be released.
I highly recommend this high quality, versatile and excellent value kit to everyone!

It seems so cool! I'm really a bargain shopper and I have loads of makeup from low end brands and generic brands. If you know how to work with them, some are really really good.
the kit seems so nice ^_^
I loooove Ulta. I think they have fabulous shadows.I'm a little wary of kits like this though. Typically (in my experience) the products aren't nearly as nice. They're a little bit on the cheaply made side. Especially the glosses or lipsticks.
I love palettes, but prefer small ones. This just looks too big. The ones I'm enjoying right now are Tarte's Spring Greening (flat out adorable!) and a Mark palette. The Tarte one has 6 lovely eyeshadows and three light lipglosses - and it comes in a cute little straw zippered box that is reusable. How green is that? The Mark palette has two eyeshadows, a blush and 4 lip colors. It's great for travel because it really reduces the amount of things I have to pack. The best palette I've ever used was one from Trish McEvoy a few years ago. It had just about everything I needed - and was perfect for my trips to Paris and NY that year. I like to travel light - and these really help!

This palette looks gorgeous, but I probably wouldn't buy it. I usually fall in love with one or two colors in a palette and wind up panning the rest of it. I am so boring with color -- I tend to stick to the same color family. My current favorite shadows are Two Faced's eyeshadow duo in Lovey Dovey and various Urban Decay single pots.
I'm with you cac. I do prefer small ones also. I love my Urban decay in Roach and Ilegal and I'm also using a little Stila palette in beige and brown colors that I really adore at the moment. I do love going to Ulta and finding good deals. Love that store! :)
I love Ulta but always shy away from "big kits" because honestlymy "gnat-like" attention span when it comes to cosmetics will never allow me to really even experiment with all the bounty this kit holds,LOL!!! I WOULD however gift it to someone who wasn't so obsessed with sparkly shadows...it's a beautiful collection and excellent value,I eyeballed it a couple of hours ago at the store and passed.
Would it be horribly inappropriate to give this kit to my 4 year old niece? I obviously don't condone her wearing make-up out. But she really loves to play. She is so beyond girlie. She loves make-up, purses, an shoes. But she was born into a family who will never be able to indulge or nurture this side of her. Her mom never, ever wears make-up. She is a dred wearing hippie, dula. A wonderful person, but uber natural.
You totally have to get her one. I grew up with a gorgeous hippie mother, who is very beautiful, but au naturel. My love for cosmetics was fueled by one of my aunts. My good old aunt Debby. Every time we went to go visit her she would give me makeup to play with. A lot of the stuff she gave me was old and half used, but I was a little girl so I was in heaven. Sometimes she would give me brand new things and then I felt like a princess. Without my sweet aunt my love of cosmetics would have never turned into a full-fledged obsession. As a little girl who loved makeup she was my lifesaver. I was very young when she started teaching me about makeup. My mother didn't get mad at all. My mother was glad that someone else in the family shared my love and could teach me what she couldn't. So I agree that it is your duty to buy your niece a set like this.
I do think that some sets like this do not have as good of quality products in them, but sometimes they do. Sometimes I personally like digging in a million different little containers when I'm getting ready. It makes me feel more special for some reason. But when I was a little girl especially I loved palettes like this! I still use them though. Last xmas one of my very close girlfriends bought me a makeup set. It was a last minute gift. She had said she bought it at Sephora and almost bought one for herself it was so pretty. She must not know how much of a makeup connoisseur I am though. I instantly recognized it as one of those cheap Markwins makeup sets that they sell at walmart and other places during the holidays. I know they don't sell Markwins or any other cheap makeup sets at Sephora. But I just graciously accepted her gift and as happy. i do love makeup after all, and the fact that my friend knows me well enough to buy me makeup makes me so thankful. Just having her as a friend made me thankful. But I am using that little old makeup palette off and on now. I can't bear to use it everyday, but I do use it.
My favorite current eye palette would have to be the Urban Decay Shadow Boxes. I don't care what anyone says, UD shadows are by far the best. I think they are far better then MAC even. UD shadows are a little pricey if you are on a limited budget, but far worth the investment!
Would it be horribly inappropriate to give this kit to my 4 year old niece?Since she's your family, you would probably know best if her parents would think it's cute or if they'd be horrified. I had to go shopping for a 6 year old's present yesterday, and I ended up with crayons and Play-doh! I don't know how her parents are raising her or if they would object to say, Barbies, so I figure no parent could find fault with classic creative toys, right?
OMG! Kellie76! It is your DUTY to give it to her!!!
Thanks Meg! That makes me feel better. I was feeling a little guilty for indulging her at such a young age. But hey she loves it. No one forces it on her. It is in her blood! I will fulfill my duty as a card carrying member of the MM Mafia and buy one for her on her birthday.
Kellie, I was at my ULTA today. They have a ton of stuff on clearance including some kits. One had a kit that had three drawers and was very cute and a SUPER BARGAIN price! You should check it out. Your niece might even play with the three drawer box (it kind of reminded me of a three drawer jewlery box) after the makeup is gone!
Thanks hao9703-I always need a bargain!! The next time I am near Ulta I will check it out! Unfortunately, I live an hour away. But I will make it there sometime soon. I am sure that my niece would love it. I really appreciate the tip!
I don't usually buy big kits because I am pretty picky about colors and don't like the bulk. However, I just recently bought the Ulta Summer eyeshadow palette that was on sale for like $10, and the quality is AMAZING! And the colors were lovely. Ulta is a really great company. While I like Sephora's line, it's almost as expensive as MAC or Clinique. Ulta on the other hand, is prob as good as Sephora's line, and costs much less. I highly recommend Ulta's makeup, esp their eyeshadows. Some other kits I've purchased: Stila pretty face set (2 shades of stick foundation, 1 illuminating tinted moisturizer, 1 mascara, 1 lip glaze [all full sized!]), and Stila loves Sephora set (minis: lip glaze?, tinted moisturizer, mascara, full size convertible color creme blush). I love kits that aren't palettes---it's easier to exclude the kit items I don't like. Sephora inside JC Penney's always has a lot of kits, and they frequently go on sale [I cannot resist the kits on sale... I try, but I can't]. All of the kits I've gotten, I've loved :)
♥ Lipgloss and Spandex: a blog for gals who look good and run fast
I've never tried any makeup from Ulta. I purchased some Sephora brand makeup items and some were okay and I learned my lesson with some of the others. I prefer to use MAC, stila, or urban decay eyeshadows but that can be quite pricey. I don't really like to buy huge makeup palettes because I find that I don't really use most of them. I prefer wearing sheer colored lip glosses instead of lip liners and lipsticks. I don't really wear any blush or face colors on my cheeks because sometimes they can be quite rosy or flushed naturally.
Kellie76, I concur with Meg! We must support the little ones that want to learn. Of course, no wearing makeup in public yet, but that doesn't mean they can't learn and have a blast at home. Yay Kellie!I never really use pallets, I end up wasting them. I think it's partially because I don't fall into either the cool or the warm color category, but instead a little bit of both. They don't end up working for me. Great write up SharonD, love the story about Mopsy and Flopsy!
my fav eye palette is from Sephora it is called the "Color Play Palette"it has 36 eyeshadows, 12 lip glosses,2 blushes,1 bronzer. I don't use the lip glosses on the palette very often though. But everything else is used daily
I've never had a palette before. I want this so bad though, I wish someone would buy this for me to prove me wrong somehow too!
i always passed on such palette as i thought it had cheap quality makeup in it, but this review has proved me wrong... i love palette from WnW, for under 5 dollars you get nice quality shimmery eye shadows
This kit is available on ebay for under $8.00 The spring/summer set I wrote about is no longer available. I did get the winter one from 2008/2009 and it was just as good as this one. The colors were more wintery. They blended beautifully, glosses were rich and the blushes/bronzers can be blended for any skin color. Truly this is a great buy.

My favorites are still the Shiseido rich jewel tones. I haven't seen better. Exene (from the band X) and I used to go shopping and bring the kits with us on tour. Some of her best photos feature her in those vibrant, sultry colors. Let me know if you've found the same quality with the lasting color - caliber, please.
This palette sounds amazing! I am always iffy about palettes like these because I found that most of them had crappy quality. But after this review I definitely have to check these out!
This palette does sound good, like other people have mentioned I always thought they were made on the cheap side but I'll have to try it again. I make nail polish out of the cheap palettes I do have.

This palette really does sound awesome! Natalia315 - great idea to make nail polish out of those cheap palettes!
i didn't think of using cheap palettes to make nail polish!
this is a cute palette. i have been most imopressed with the 120 coastal scents/ebay palette

I guess what I wrote before went by by with the glitch. Oh, well, it was something about how cool the palette looks. I have never really been a palette person, but, lately maybe am changing that idea. I do use and love UD's Urban Arsenal. And I do like the cute little palettes from The Balm. And I now realize, I really need to check out Ulta.
im always hesistant of buying huge makeup kits. i worry i wont like but a few colors.

It looks like a great value! I do not have room to store huge kits but, it is a great gift for someone who is starting or even restarting their collection!
i almost always buy in palette form but it sucks for on the go. i might have to check this out, I'm on a makeup buying strike right now but hopefully that will have ended once the winter kits are out!
Awww, what a nice deer story! :)This case looks gorgeous...it is huge as well!As for my favorite eye palette, it is from estee lauder! I love their eye shadows :) Great colors and they apply perfectly...
I love going into Ulta, not as much as Sephora, but it's still a thrill. But I have to admit, I do always feel that if you don't pay a lot of money for something, it isn't going to be that great. On the other hand, I have a ton of favorite things from the drugstore, so I guess I need to re-think my philosophy. I actually have a huge traincase from Ulta that is pushed to that back of my product closet, maybe I will take it out and give it a try.
Kellie, I think that would be an awesome gift for your niece, but as the aunt of 4 gorgeous girls, I learned early on the ask their mother before I get them anything that could even remotely fall under the category of "inappropriate". In my opinion, it would be a fantastic gift, but then when I was 4, I used to spend hours sitting at my grandmother's unbelievably incredible art deco vanity table (the kind you see in movies set in the flapper era), applying her makeup while wearing one of her fur stoles and high heels. My mother never wears a drop of makeup, she is allergic to everything, and unlike me, has no vanity, so I didn't have the opportunity to enjoy this experience at home. I still have fond memories of it, so many years later.
Yeah you always have to check with a girls mother. I loved your story of the art deco vanity. Your grandma sounds like one classy lady. I would have loved to see someone doing that. If my grandmother or mother would have had a gorgeous vanity table like that I would have spent all day playing with it!
I received an Ulta kit similar to this one for Christmas. The only products I've used are the eyeshadows, blushes, and an eyeliner. The rest seems kind of cheap. The shadows are ok, not very pigmented are long-lasting. I have to apply them over an eyeshadow primer and a MAC paint pot to get the eyeshadows to stay on for more than a few hours. So, while these kits may seem like a great bargain, I think it comes at a cost of quality.BUT I think if you are wanting to test out some new colors or if you are looking for a good gift for someone, then this would be great.
I wouldn't use everything in the palette. It would go to waste for me. And I hate the Ulta brand stuff because I'm pretty sure I'm severely allergic!
I am a sucker for palettes. :-) This is a great one! I like all of the colors and they wear well!!
A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.

before i started getting into mineral makeup i would LOVE getting similar cheap palletes like this from Macys, it is so fun to suddenly have a bunch of colors to choose from and play with, a great stocking filler present for a best mate too. You know what i really want though, the coastal scents set off 88 eyeshadow pallete, i want i want!!! http://www.coastalscents.com/cfwebstore/index.cfm/product/1677_122/88-pi...
makeup makeup makeup!!!!!!!
I love palettes! The idea of having a whole look already ready for you in one place definitely appeals to me on those mornings I'm in a rush. My cousin raves about Ulta eyeshadows..unfortunately I don't have an Ulta near me but the next time I go visit her, I will definitely look into their products :)
I love pallets to, but someone please tell me when on earth they will stop putting those cruddy little sponge applicators in them... C'mon... include some brushes.... we don't need the stupid sponge applicators, they're terrible....
I would love to try this !
no one is with me about the spongy applicators?
my favorite palette eyes is estee lauder !!! but i would try it for the glosses ..
How cute! Do you have any pictures of the little deer family?I saw this at Ulta, and I must admit I didn't give it a thought. When I was younger I received some kits like these and was never impressed. Today at Ulta I purchased a little kit that is very similar to the kits from Urban Decay. I only tried on one or two of the colors but so far I really like it. After reading this I would be willing to give their palette a try, especially cause it pretty much equals the cost of one or two colors from a more expensive brand. Like someone Britts said, it would at least be good for trying out colors you may not have otherwise!
kits like this remind me of when i was a teen and my mum used to buy them for me. The pigmentation of the shadows was often a joke. I used to gauge a hole and patt the shadow dust on and still not have anything show up. I used to think up until a year ago, why spend more that £2 on a shadow, its only going on your eye. Since using better quality shadows, i know that its better to go with quality over quantity.
ive always thought those were bad deals because they give colors that arent really popular so that people try it. its fun to try but not for any daily wear.
I never understand kits like these. A lot of times they seem like a random collection of colours thrown together, and often many of the shades aren't even very nice. And although there are some good budget makeup brands out there, the bargain kits seem to be pretty low quality.Like sangus said, something you buy your teen who is just learning to play with makeup.
i wish we had sephora or ulta over here, this could probably last me 10 years!

This kit seems like a must have for a makeup junkie like me!
This case looks drool worthy. I will be waiting for the winter one.I can agree that the clerks act like it has to be super expensive to be good. Some of the best products I have were bought at Walmart / Target...take that you snoby clerks.
