One of the joys of being a gay man is that I am in touch with my feminine side and get women but I’m still a guy so I also get men. In all my years of hanging out in the straight world and seeing what guys do to you girls I’ve learned a thing or two and now I’m here to tell you all I know. Guys are a tricky creature. They’re just as finicky if not MORE finicky than women, they love to gossip with their guy friends even though they would never call it that, to them it’s just “shootin’ the shit” but I hear more trash talking at a superbowl party than I do at the salon when my bff is getting her hair did. I don’t mean to discourage you, if anything I’m here to empower you with the secrets of the lesser sex so you will have that much more power over them 
1.One of the funniest things they’ll never fess up to (unless they’re the dbag gym rats that is) is when they come back from the gym and they say they worked out really hard…yeah, that means an hour on the elliptical watching Tyra!
2.They just want sex. If he seems interested in your little yorkie “Tinkerbell”, how mean the lady was to you at the nail salon when she was talking smack about you to her co-workers in another language, your list of everything you ate today, etc. etc. he’s not! He’s waiting patiently to pounce! And pounce he will! And once he gets in your panties forget about getting his attention again until little man is begging for more attention.
3.He totally has a problem with you making more money than him. It’s not your fault he doesn’t have the drive to get a good job and make more money! (if he had a Jimmy Choo, Shiseido, Chanel, Marc Jacobs, Christian Louboutin, Louis Vuitton addiction maybe he would have the drive!)
4.Have you ever heard that one joke about the four men every woman needs in her life?I can’t really remember the rest of the joke but guys are pretty much the same. They will never tell you that they want a big bootie girl in bed, a skinny girl at the beach/pool, a conservative girl around their parents, beer drinking and cool chick around friends and a plain Jane without any make-up when no one is around.
5.They just want sex. Oh wait, did I already say that? Well, they do, and that is what takes up about 97% of their thoughts on a daily basis (the other 3% is broken up between eating, beer, video games, sports, peeing and you) Again, I don’t mean to discourage you but if your best friend is hot, if your mom is hot, if your sister is hot…they want to do her. Not to be unfaithful they just can’t help it. Little Man has the bigger brain for the most part.
6.He was just looking at her boobs! If you catch your guys eyes wandering there were boobs walking by. That’s it. I think there is some sort of “bubbies” A.D.D. or something that men are prone to have.
7.They don’t want to cuddle, they don’t want to talk, they just spewed out 2 tablespoons of their brains! (note: men typically only have about 3 tablespoons of brain at any given moment…figure it out)
8. If he is 100% positive he will not get caught ALMOST every single guy will cheat. If you’re the “other woman” he will 8 times out of 10 not leave his wife for you. It happens in all the movies and the T.V. shows, we know this is the way it goes and yet we still hope and pray for the “not gonna happen” to happen.
9.No straight guy has girl friends that are just friends. They want to sleep with you. They might say you guys can just be friends and might not ever even do anything about it but believe me, they want to sleep with you. (are you noticing a slight pattern here? Men are definitely walking hard-ons)
Okay, I’ve been somewhat of a Debbie Downer so let me finish off by telling you some sweet things he’ll never admit or tell you….
1.Your smile lights up his day.
2.He feels very lucky to have you in his life.
3.He’s thankful to have found you.
4.He loves it when you are in just a pair of panties and one of his button up shirts or a pair of his boxer briefs and nothing else or any other combination of his things and your things on a relaxed day at home.
Well, that about sums it up for me and my little list of things you’ll never hear from your guy. What do you think? Do you have a guy that’s an exception? Have you noticed these things in your guy and now know for a fact your assumptions were true? Let me know what you think.

Daniel, you are the best! And while I've known the occasional guy who was interested in things other than the sex, if he was straight, the sex always was the numero uno on his menu. He just knew how to bide his time better than the Neanderthals of the breed. But the best of the best have so much else going for them, tenderness being at the top of my list, that I can't think of a better opposite gender on this planet. And gee, there is no law that says that women don't want the sex, too. Cyndi Lauper knew a thing or two about it...

I think that Daniel, you are super hot, funny, and smart. You are a pleasure to have as our main gay. I agree with some of what you said and disagree with some. I have always typically had more guy friends then girl friends. I am only aware of perhaps two instances where the guy had intentions that were not pure. One of my very best friends right now is a guy. We met in college. He knows that I am married and will often hang out with my husband and I. I am so positive that this guy does not want to have sex with me! First of all I am not his type at all. I am not small and Asian. Second of all he is all asking me about girl crushes. Great posting Daniel! But I respectfully disagree and think that guys can often be great friends with a girl without having ulterior motives.BTW-I forgot to say that I know with 100% confidence that my man would never cheat, ever! So needless to say I totally disagree with that statement also.My husband and I live every day with a strong faith in our fidelity. We choose not to doubt it. This may not work for everyone else. That being said better people than I have been cheated on and have been cheaters. But not worrying about infidelity does not make us complacent. We firmly believe that you must work every day to make your marriage great. Never take your loved one for granted. I can only hope that anyone here who chooses to spend their lives with a partner could be as lucky as I have been!
I think at some point every guy you know has sized you up. (except, hopefully, family members. YUCK!) Just as you probably have them. As a human animal we do that. But the difference is that we don't always act on our thoughts an are not compelled to do everything we think of! I have always had a ton of guy friends and I have slept with some of them but I don't think all men feel they need to sleep with all women. Sure, the real shit bags do, but, who wants one of them anyway?

not in my defense but just to make light on one thing. i never said this is what all men do. just a lot of men. enough for a lot of these to be obvious stereotypes of your typical men (have ya seen the trojan commercial where the girls are in a bar full of pigs?...) i know many good men and as a matter of fact, my friend Aram is one of them and he helped me out with this. men that i admire and i look up to, who would never act like this (i think). I would say that almost every man has these thoughts/temptations but the better men, the REAL men in my book don't succumb. i am completely open to criticism and take it with an open mind. i just don't want you beautiful ladies to think that this is the be all and end all when it comes to men or that this is the only way i think. just what needed to be said for this piece. another reason this needed to be done is because the bad guys, often times can pass as one of the good guys.much love to you all and have a great week! d.

I think (hope?!) all women were aware that this is how many (but not all men are this way--if they were 100% of marriages would fail, not the mere 50%. I never interpreted (okay, maybe for a second) your article as a suggestion to women that we're ultimately screwed no matter what. There are some men (whom I've met) who genuinely have the proper mix of manly traits (some of which you listed) but also (as you mentioned,) would never act like this or they know better or have learned from past mistakes. These amazing men are more rare than the obnoxious, over sexed, liars you so accurately depicted in your stereotype.One thing I believe (and also take away from your comment) is that it takes a secure, playful (but knows when to be serious), strong (but willing to be vulnerable), sweet (but not overly sensitive) woman who knows how to handle herself (and men), to have a relationship with one of those equally admirable men.

Like you said Daniel, men are all about sex first and foremost. Actually, that's one of my favorite things about my man. It's all about impulse control. No marriage is completely affair-proof. We have to maintain the relationship as best we can, right? Neither my husband or myself has ever been unfaithful, but we both know we have to work at making sure it doesn't happen. Which is a long-winded way of saying, you just never know, so what are you going to do about it? The thing I liked most about your piece is that it really had an underlying message of acceptance. Accepting someone for who they truly are is the most loving gift you can give another. It's really what we are all about here at Meg's. I love your honest, straight forward approach. I also love the way you told us straight out, no holding back. Then you turned right around and hit us right where it counts and closed with those super touching remarks. Ok, so here's the deal...I can’t figure out why Sean Connery has his photo here to represent this topic on any level. I would bet that he does not typify anything about the 10 points listed. I was fortunate enough many years ago to meet Sean Connery – twice – he even rode in our family Volvo on one occasion which is another story entirely. This is one of the classiest men of all time and he has SO MUCH INTEGRITY and I just felt his image didn’t work here. Ok, there you have it, my two cents which is just my opinion. I think maybe a photo of Jack Black would have worked better! I can imagine he might relate and speak freely as the article did on shooting the shit and what men actually think and talk about concerning women.

Jeanasina I love you but are you kidding me? Sean Connery was the worst!!! Don't you remember the Barbara Walters interview where he himself said "It's OK to hit a woman under certain circumstances" He totally said it. I was shocked when I was (like 5) and watched it! It may be on YouTUBE!!
Just my 2 cents, but I believe the picture is Sean Connery playing the ROLE of James Bond. And regardless of whether Sean Connery is a fine gentleman or a chauvinistic butthead... James Bond was hot and very interested in sex. And so maybe, just maybe, that character was a good illustration for this description of men and their little quirks. Also, I think a lot of men actually want to BE 007.

He continued to yell about Texas women all being alike, using the "F" word along with bitch. I'm just sitting there thinking what is going on with this balistic guy. Then he starts talking about his x-wife and those words were not nice either. I was in total shock!! I couldn't understand how inviting someone in my home is me really saying lets have sex. Finally, he leaves ranting down the stairs about women. Then less than five minutes later he called me I let the answering machine pick-up. He continued babbling about women. okay, so after thinking about this for a bit I can't believe i didn't think of this right off the bat! obviously this guy is frustrated because he cares about the relationship/girl and he doesn't know what to do. he's looking to his friends for support. now this venting to his friends doesn't necessarily tell you what kind of guy he is though. he really could be a loser with no drive or a total sweetheart that is completely obvlivious to his ineptitude. another reason he's venting to his friends is because his girlfriend has spewed so much bitching (poison) to him that he needs to get it out of him so he talks to his friends about it.

Thank you, Daniel! That's a lot of perspective - I knew you'd enlighten me, but never imagined all that. So, remembering his face, all confused and really sad, he seemed like a total sweetheart. And he, along with his three friends, were hot.... So what happens when he gets tons of poison? - Does he lose his romantic side? Does being inept eventually put him out of the running? It seems like his friends were really wanting to help him and it was sweet to see, - but would they give solutions, or just listen for support? As you can see, I'm looking to you for clues to the male psyche.

I totally agree with most everything you wrote here. I do believe that pretty much all men will cheat if they know they will never get caught…they stupidly believe it’s “in their nature.” No offense to any men. I think that both genders have the same chances of cheating on their partners (I just think women get caught less often).

I would say yes, what you stated about men and their expectations is true. This is what they pretty much think about on a continual basis. It's the testosterone. Yeah, let's use that for an excuse. Daniel I agree with you 100% on this one. Oh the dates, oh the nut jobs, oh brothers!! I am telling you as a single woman, I hate dating!! I hate it because of the stupid garbage you have to deal with to actually get to know some of these guys. It's a ruse they use. Oh I remember when I had a date with this jerk that got completely smashed when we were out. As if that were not the only turn off, he was gross and grossly unable to handle his alcohol. Nice impression for a first date. Well, as the evening progressed and I decided I had enough of his bull, I ran to my car when he wasn't looking and took off like a wild woman. I forgot he did know where I lived because I mentioned it to him before, yet I insisted I just meet him wherever we had decided to go out that night. Anyway, I made the mad dash home, safe and oh so happy that idiot was not with me!! Low and behold I was undressing, just basically getting ready for bed and all of a sudden I hear some weird noises. I went out towards my living room and low and behold drunk jerk was out on my balcony yelling my name!! I told him to leave or I was calling the police. Well, he didn't leave and didn't believe that I would call the police. I did and they came, they found him, got him off my balcony and arrested him. He was drunk and disorderly as they stated and you get the rest. Once again, another dream date. Oh to relive that again. Now I am so super picky I just cannot bear to go on another loser, idiot, lousy date. I just make friends with these guys now a days and call it a day. I'm sure the right one will be out there one day, but if not, so be it. Why put up with a big pain in the ass? I love men and having a boyfriend, but the choices are so slim it's frightening.
