SUNSILK CAPTIVATING CURLS SCRUNCHING MOUSSE!

mousse
Katehrm777 here! It’s beginning to look a lot like summertime!  That phrase used to mean a lot more to me when summer time meant a break from school and countless hours tanning (eek), sleeping in till 2 and going on spontaneous adventures whenever I felt like it!  Now summertime to me means gazing wistfully out the window from my cubicle at the beautiful sun, however I know the time will come where I will hit the beach (even if it’s only for one week…or one day) and so I must be ready!  Being beach ready means different things to everyone, but for me, it means figuring out a way to tame my wild beast hair the best I can once the hours spent blow drying and straightening are undone by going swimming.  My quest for the perfect product to turn a crimpy, crazy bird’s nest into a perfect beach curl Giselle-like hair is ongoing.  So when I received Sunsilk’s Captivating Curls Scrunching Mousse I was ecstatic!

Sunsilk Scrunching Mousse
promises to take dry frizzy hair and turn it full bodied, bouncy curls.  Since a blow drier and flat iron are out of the question on the beach (if for nothing else besides public outrage when you pop one out…believe me I have tried…ahem portable flat iron) I have to do everything I can to tame my hair by making best of its natural curls.  I took this baby with me for a friend’s engagement party on the beach that involved ocean swimming and hot tub usage.   After showering after the hot tub (always shower!  Always!  Get the chlorine out of your hair!) I ran some of this through my hair and decided to let it air dry and see what happens.  Alas!  My hair, while not perfect beach curls like those with only wavy hair can achieve, was shiny, defined and did not resemble a rats nest.  It was not perfectly defined curls like I would expect from a full on scrunching gel, but there was considerably less frizz and my hair had a definite shape and style as opposed to complete havoc.  I would recommend this product to ANYONE, whether you are a curly haired lady who wants to define those curls or just looking to spice up your style by going wavy once in awhile.

So ladies, anyone else use this product or have any other miracle beach products
(successful diets will be accepted as well!).

Buy It Here!

I really love this product. I use it quite frequently. I have naturally curly hair. I works brilliantly for me. I feel like the combination of cream and gel makes it less crunchy on my hair. Actually there is no crunch at all. i get soft, effortless curls with this. I totally recommend it. I also love the packaging-the cream and gel swirl is so neat to look at. I asked my hair dresser in the nicest salon in our town what would be the best way to go if I didn't want to spend a lot on my hair products. She whispered to me that I should try Sunsilk products. If you want easy and soft, curls or waves that don't cost a lot then use this product. You will not be let down!

I'm always skeptical of when they say scrunching or anything like that, I only have good mousse or bad - they don't really prove to be good at certain actions - just good. Make any sense?

I've tried a few of Sunsilk's products and they always preform well. They're not the best I've ever tried, but they preform for the price. When they first brought out their collection for wavy hair I rejoiced! Most product lines do not include products specifically for waves (or didn't at the time) and I am always craving that beach hair that tames the frizz at the same time. Their wave spray is interesting because it's not your usual saltwater spray- it's a separated oily-type mixture that you have to shake. It works and tames frizz and doesn't dry my hair quite as bad as a saltwater spray, but it doesn't give crazy texture and waves either. However, I LOVE their TLC Deep Conditioning Treatment in the big pink tub. Makes my hair so, so, so soft and shiny.

My question is about three things - first, the fragrance and the texture the next day.  After sleeping on it, especially on a hot night, what would we be left with?  And how's the fragrance?  I'd need to know for an upcoming trip to New York - the summertime humidity there is definitely a frizz-factor for my wavy hair. And is it paraben-free, I hope?  The last thing I need is a rash from that.

Sunsilk is a great range for the price - sure you can do better, but then you have to cough up. Even in the deep, deep, deep South where I live this range is great value for money.  We usually get their products fairly soon after launch, so I will look out for this. Katehrm777 - great review. "Since a blow drier and flat iron are out of the question on the beach (if for nothing else besides public outrage when you pop one out…believe me I have tried…ahem portable flat iron)" - this had me ROFL... perfect start to my morning....

I have major straight hair but I have learned to make a rats nest look like a natural beauty. I used to use Garnier's spray gel to achieve that perfect beachy look. I sprayed it on and scrunched the heck out of my hair. It always looked great until the next morning. Ha. How painful to brush that out. I will have to try this one though. I use the TLC line from Sunsilk. I love love it. I've learned to switch my shampoos and conditioners though. I will use the Sunsilk TLC and when that's gone I'll use plain old VO5. Then when that's gone I'll go back to the Sunsilk. It seems to lose it's effect if you don't take a break. But my hair rejoices when it sees that pink bottle! LOL. :)

FT-That is a common problem for us curly hairs. My stylist told me that it is because the curls often weigh your hair down-thus flattening the top. These products are very helpful. But as you probably know curly hair is so finicky. One day I will not have a flat top but the next day I will. You have your good and bad days! I never achieve curl consistency. If I apply slightly too much or too little product product or even if the humidity increases some, my hair can go crazy!

Great review Kate!  I would have never even looked at this product had I not read your review today!  I checked around to see what the prices are and did find that right now on Drugstore.com if you buy one you can get one free!  For those of you who like on-line ordering…there you go!  At $3.99 BOGO means it’s just $2.00 a bottle! (of course there is the shipping fee involved).  Check it out: http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=182172&catid=32548  I have naturally wavy hair and straighten it every other day and would love to just let it be wavy!  My wavy hair always looks too dry and frizzy so maybe this product could help with that!  I read that the smell is wonderful from several users and I’m all about smelling fresh and clean and having yummy smelling hair!!  I checked the Sunsilk website and they indicated that this product is available at your local Cub and Rainbow Foods store too – so while you’re out getting groceries you can pick up some Sunsilk captivating curls scrunching moose at the same time!  Perfect!

I don’t have any miracle beach products but what I used to do to get my hair in fabulous condition was this….Before I headed for the beach, I would wet my hair down and towel dry it and then slather, as thick as possible, my favorite deep conditioner.  Then I’d comb it through and comb my hair all back into a pony tail or if my hair was long enough a knot at the top of my head and then go to the beach.  The sun would bake the conditioner into all the strands of my hair and after I got home and took a shower and washed and rinsed out the conditioner, my hair would be in such amazing condition!  The sun baking really had the equivalent of sitting under a dryer with conditioner in my hair!  Yes, my hair was rather crunchy at the end of the day but it completely stayed in place the entire day as I sat on my lawn chair, in the water, along the shoreline of the beach while reading a good mystery!  Try it!  The end result really is wonderful!

Good review. I have very, very, very short African-American hair. My current curl definer is excellent for when I jump out the shower and finger style my hair for work, but I'm going on a beach trip in a couple of weeks and I don't think my product would work on "pool hair." (Plus, it tends to be a little heavy on humid days.) I might try Sunsilk. I've heard good thinks about their products. Thanks!

You're super awesome!

Great post!  I'll keep Sunsilk in mind.  I have had great results with Jessicurl and Ouidad products but I have to order them.  Which means I have to plan ahead - not always my strong point!  I'm also happy with Living Proof No Frizz, which I get at my local Sephora.  Obviously the price point on these products is higher than Sunsilk - so if my budget requires a cut-back (God Forbid!), at least I can try this.  In the meantime though, my hair is so wild and crazy that it is worth whatever it costs to keep me from looking like I've just received an electrical shock!

Actually, this product is called Captivating Curls Gel and Cream Twist. It is not a mousse at all. It is more like a curl cream/gel (hence, "gel and cream"). I have pretty curly hair (for those familiar with naturallycurly.com, my hair is a mix of 2b and 3a curls; it dries in loose spirals). I really did not like this product. While it did create some softness, I found that there was not enough hold. Furthermore, when the Captivating Curls and Waves of Envy line came out, I spent some time looking over ingredients and such: the Gel and Cream Twist from BOTH lines (Waves and Curls) have the SAME ingredients. The only difference is the color. Of course, maybe they've changed formulations since then, but this really turned me off of the product, as well. Garnier did the same thing when they had some leave-in conditioners: the sleek and curly ones only differed by one ingredient. How ridiculous. It almost makes me feel like they're trying to pull one over on us! How many people bought both to see which one they liked better? Awful.Speaking of leave-ins, though, I did find pleasant results with Sunsilk's Captivating Curls De-Frizz Leave-In Cream (combined with a gel). I was out of town in almost no humidity, so I can't speak of its worth when dealing with that issue. For the beach, I echo what someone said about putting a good conditioner (or oil) in your hair and letting the sun bake it! Everytime I get out of the water, I spray a UV protectant, and/or put more conditioner in my hair when I'm at the beach or pool. Paul Mitchell's The Cream is a styling conditioner with UV filters, and it's nice for a day at the beach. I can just follow it with gel when the beach day is over, and my curls behave nicely! I like wave spays, too. Victoria's Secret has one (Bare Bronze Texturizing Spray; it has some UV filters!) that I like. Have fun in the surf!

I got the gel and cream twist for curls because I have natural curls. I didn't try the one for waves. But I really did love it. I am mainly concerned with a very natural appearance and texture. That is what this provided me. And it doesn't waiver at all for me during the day. If that is what people consider to be hold than that's what it did for me. Now, like I said I did try the Wave spray. For me it is a nice change of pace if I am in a hurry or want to be a little more casual. A spray is often quicker and less messy for me. And it creates loose waves. So in my experience both types of the products offer positive results for different needs.

Ooh! Yes! I remember John Frieda's Ocean Waves!!! I loved that!!! (I just Googled it, and Amazon.com has it for $189.95... What??? Looks pricy on eBay, too. He just needs to make it again.) He has a new wave spray out in his Brilliant Brunette line, but I haven't tried it.Seriously, though, if your hair is moderately to very curly, you may not like Sunsilk's Gel and Cream. My hair has loose curls and it did not provide enough hold. I really wanted to like it, but it just wasn't good enough. Don't forget, if you go to the store and they're out of the Captivating Curls Gel and Cream, you can just get the Waves of Envy Gel and Cream because they are the SAME thing. It just comes down to whether you like the green container or the blue one. Most products are worth trying, and if you don't like it, you can take it back.

This stuff is great, the entire line is awesome and such great pricepoints! I use the cream/gel for wavy hair, and the sea spray for touchups, and I can get away with doing nothing but washing, condidtioning and about 10 pumps of the cream/gel, and I'm good to go, 2 minutes vs. over an hour when I want to go straight. Also, go figure, when my hair is straight, and I put so much effort into it, no one comments on it beyond "oh, you used a flatiron today..." when it's curly and I have done nothing to it, people stop me in the grocery store and strangers approach me in my elevator to ask me where I got my amazing curls!

i used to think that to keep my curls in place i had to use really hard sticky stuff (i used to use biosilk rock hard gel or short sexy hair's hard up gel) and they did the job, they kept the curls in place. so well in fact that i could go to sleep and wake up looking like i just finished getting ready (to think i used to do this to myself shames me now) then one day while i was at my local bar a friend of mine lovingly called me out on my rock hard curls, told me i should go more natural so i picked up my shattered ego from the floor and went to my stylist and asked her what i should use. i started using american crew's forming creme but at $15 a puck and that puck only lasting maybe three weeks i couldn't afford to keep up the habit even though my hair was gorgeous while using it. this stuff, for the money is thee best stuff around! having thick, curly, frizz-prone hair, i've pretty much tried everything out there and a lot of things are better but at 12-30 bucks a pop and going through a bottle per month can get pricey (my expensive faves are terax crema, american crew forming creme, bedhead control freak, paul mitchell super skinny serum, p.m. flex style hair sculpting lotion). during the summer months when i keep my hair shorter this stuff works amazingly well! i first bought it because the dual formula system intrigued me (if you have seen my profile you will know i'm all about mixing things to make what i need) and this did the job for me without having to make a mess! throw in the fact that i could get it at target when i was doing my other shopping and didn't have to run to trade secrets to grab my hair stuff and i was sold! love the stuff

i have super straight hair that barely curls, but im willing to give this product a try!  its got pretty packaging.. *blush* i know its not important but still :D  besides sunsilk isn't an expensive brand so i won't feel bad about trying it.  if all else fails, i can just use it in damp hair for a bit of volume.

Wow, I will definitely have to try this! I've used Sunsilk stuff before, the price is certainly right.

Update!  Recently I found this product at Cub Foods and today I had a major chance to really give it a full blown try!  Today it's raining like crazy outside so I knew it would be pointless to stand at the bus stop with my usual smoothed out, flat ironed hair.  Instead, I got my hair wet, read the directions on the SunSilk curls and scrunched and twirled my hair and left for the bus stop.  My bus was late so I stood out there for a good 20 minutes in the pouring rain under my umbrella - the humidity was running rampid!  Then I got off the bus and walked a few blocks to work - well I was expecting the worst!  When I finally got to my office and slunk into the ladie's rest room - I glanced over to the mirror and thought 'YIPPIEEEEEEE!  MY HAIR LOOKS FABULOUS!"  I was absolutely thrilled with the way my waves were showing off today!  I now have an alternate hairstyle and the product to make it look good!  I cannot believe how affordable this product is, that I bought it at the grocery store and that I'm super happy with the end result!  Thanks so much Kate for introducing this product to us natural wavy haired ladies!

Jeanasina!

This is a wonderful product for when I relax my curls but i have found it to be no help when I dry naturally.  When I tried it that way it looked like I had forgotten to put any product in!

I have wavy hair and bought this product a while ago in an attempt to get away with having to blow-dry my hair less often.  I thought it worked well, but not great.  I also bought the spray from the same line and would use them at the same time.  I think for my hair they worked better together, although I would not purchase these items again.
