CHRISTIAN DIOR 5 COLOUR EYESHADOW!

Katie here! Happy Saturdays at Sephora column! I feel unendingly guilty about my non-dependable-ness of late. Is a part-time retail working, full-time MBA student's busy life excuse enough? It doesn't seem like it is...but especially these days, studying for finals - it consumes me! Speaking of finals, I have two on Monday, and they may be the death of me: Finance at 7:30am and Economics at 7:30pm! I feel like these two subjects have some inherint irony in them - given the macroeconomic situation of the world these days - bankrupt Chrysler, overwhelming consumer debt, even more overwhelming trillion dollar's worth of national deficit. Bleak. Bleak. Bleak. On the bright side, if you happen to have the cash lying around...it's a great time to pick up real estate, take out student loans (a la yours truly), or refinance your mortgage at super low rates! All of those are what we like to think of as long-term investments.
In keeping with that theme, I want to propose a long-term investment to your costmetic case - which comes to you in the form of the ever-so chic blue and silver compacts of a Christian Dior 5-Colour Eyeshadow compacts. At $56, they make you shudder at first glance. But at $11.20 per shadow colour, the blow is softened a little bit. They're full-sized shadows and pressed in really tight - so I think you can use them for months and months before making a dent into one of the colors.
You also get a little bit of help in pairing shadows in each compact. Like tic-tac-toe, up and down, side to side, and each direction diagonally, the three colors you hit are meant to be a perfectly matched lid-crease-contour combination of colors. Of couse, you can freestyle this part if you so choose... That's 120 different combinations, if I'm not mistaken. Plus, the options are as varied as people's taste in makeup: #030 Incognito is a perfect pairing of mostly matte neutrals, perfect for the less-is-more makeup personality. #440 Sunset Cafe is a shimmery combination of peaches and pinks. Great for Bridal makeup or the girl who prefers a little bit of natural-looking shimmer in her makeup wardrobe. Or you can get dramtic and wild with compacts like #140 Twilight for smoky blue-grays or #790 Night Dust.
Happy Experimenting - and enjoy!

I was just at my (somewhat local) Sephora and Katie is sooo right about this. These shadows are absolutely fabulous. I wasn't the only one standing directly in front of them drooling over each and every one. Sadly, I had already exceeded my Sephora budget and was unable to indulge....... hiccup...... sniff. If any of you have used these I would love to hear about it and then happily live vicariously through you!
Hello. I am a former Dior Addict . . . ok, well perhaps I am struggling with my recovery~! I have TONS of shadow from Dior. I want to reaffirm that they do LAST and LAST in quanity of uses and longetivty of daily wear. Also, this one seems very versatile. (I may have to go out and get it today!)
I am not sure if it is true . . . BUT, some of their quads allow to to wet the shadow and it make eyeliner!! This adds extra bang for the $$.
Oh- and the splurge item I will not give up is SKIN CARE . . . plus, I am always on the look out for something new. However, I try to do a better job of using stuff up. Ok, well CLOSE to up before I add something new.Like I said I have quite a stock pile of color! :) So, that is not as tempting for me.
Katie-- good to see you back with a review! A Dior splurge is on the menu for me in June. Oh, and I refuse to give up paying for my hair upkeep. Maybe that's because my hairdresser is like my 2nd mom/therapist/miracle worker all in one! I love her! And if it came down to it, I'd give up going out, coffee, and even French fries in order to keep seeing her!
I concur--welcome back, Katie! I believe these shadows run through my veins and purchased several palettes before I had to take a leave from my job. They are worth every penny and are a "gilty pleasure." The finely-milled texture lends itself to blending for even those who are challenged, and the hues beautifully coordinated. This is shadow perfection! I am also a recovering addict, hao9703, so I am eeking out every particle in the compacts. Withdrawal is not pretty. Have you joined the "Dior Junkies" yet? It's similar to "Narcotics Anonymous." They help to ease the symptoms. Oh, heck, I deserve to buy one other (or twenty).
Hi Champ3377,I used to be addicted to the Dior skin care as well as the color . . . I have since found other skin care that seems to work better for me. Actually, some of it is a bit cheaper. (It has less fragrance and does not seem to irriate my skin.) However, I am grateful that Dior does LAST so long . . .Have you tried adding a bit of water so some darker shadow to make eyeliner . . . it can be quite wonderful!Have a wonderful day,Holly
I'm so due for new eye shadow and I LOVE the colors in this photo. I want it! I need it! This looks perfect. This will be on my list on my next trip to Sephora with some mascara. YES "guilty pleasure". I can't wait to try this. Welcome back Katie!
I want this shadow too! And a trip to Seporia is something I have been really wanting to do..haven't been is a while. Item I will not ever give up...LIP GLOSS, all kinds..can't ever give it up..I really love Dior, Chanel, Mac & hotpants.
These 5-color shadow palletts are great! If you have to start with only one (and who can afford more...) go with the "Incognito" -it's basic, go-to, always right for non-glam occasions, and works with all colorings.
If I ace all my classes I am buying myself this as a treat. 19 more days of school!
These dior shadow sets are so worth the price. The shadows are very pigmented, very silky, gorgeous, versatile, and very prestigious. In this recession I refuse to give up my fragrance addiction. I have started being a lot cheaper stuff, and rationing the stuff I do have. But fragrance is always a great pick me up. I love smelling good. I can't leave the house without smelling good. And in these tough economic times, I've learned that you can find some great smelling stuff at Wal-Mart:D
Oh goodness, I love when the pallet comes witht he right shades you need for many various looks. you can simply mix and match or use the darker in the crease to create the cat eye look and even use the darker mixed with water as your liner. these compacts are a miracle!!!!

The colors are really pretty. The splurge that I'm not giving up is my MAC foundation.
I drooled over these for about half an hour in Debendams (UK department store) the other day. I finish college in 2 weeks and I'm strongly considering splashing out on one on the day of my last exam - I couldn't resist swatching almost every colour and the silver shadow in one of the quads is honestly the truest silver I've ever seen, it looks like molten metal.. ohh *drools*
i loveee their eyeshadows. unlike others, with just one swipe of the finger, you get maximum pigmentation and coverage. i've had mine for about 2 months and it doesn't look really used at all...yet i use it all the time. what softens the blow even more with the price tag is if you just set aside 15 bucks a week...dont drink that coffee...and you will have enough by the end of the month =] thats how i do it...LOL
I have always wanted to buy some Dior products, but I just can't get past the initial cost. I know, I know, when you do the breakdown they're much cheaper, but unfortunately, I just can't justify spending almost $60 on 1 item at one time.
a grad student myself, i understand how diffcult it is to keep your budget on a low when there are so many temptations. but this year i hardly bought any makeup- maybe a mascara (that was $7). I splurge on Bath and Body Works semi-annual sale though-I am a big fan of nice smelling body stuff!
I think Dior never does wrong by me. Their products are always so great, but I do have to budget myself with them.

Too expensive for me!
i can't afford to pay $56 dollars for that little eyeshadow pallete, and i don't really want it, but i always do what you did "At $56, they make you shudder at first glance. But at $11.20 per shadow colour, the blow is softened a little bit." haha, i try to justify purchases like that too :D
They proably last long but OMG what a price!!!
I've been wanting to try one of these Dior palettes forever. I drool over the one my sister has lol. But on a college student budget this isn't within my price range right now =\ Sigh maybe in a few years..
Very good products and color but sooo expensive you paid the price also ...
I honestly can't say I have cut back at all on my beauty product consumption. If I like something, I put it on my list and I make sure to get it in the next month or so. I figure if I want a product that is $60, and I decide to "save" money by getting a cheaper facsimile for $30, then rather than saving $30, I have just wasted $30, because I won't like the cheaper one as much, and I will just end up buying it eventually, and end up spending a total of $90. Don't judge -- that rationalization works for me!
I don't know if I am willing to spend so much on the eyeshadow...but it is really pretty. I love the way they make it easy for you to pair together well.
Ahh, Dior, always enticing me!I have to admit though, the quality is soooo much better than the others but I don't think I can justify spending so much...even though it is soooo cute!
Pretty pretty pretty!! I love the colors and the design of it :) but it's really expensive for me... I would only buy it if it's on sale :P
Makeupaholic on a budget!!!
Great compact...it looks super pigmented
this is a great little palette, excellent for touch ups and to carry around in your bag! I love it!

I love these palettes from Dior!I have 2 or 3 of these and the colours are amazing they pair great together !
I'm starting to get into expensive palettes after buying my first one from Estee Lauder. I always considered them too expensive before but I love my palette and all my other makeup has been severely neglected since I've gotten it.
I'm never giving up eyeshadow!! In fact, I want to try this one out!!

When life hands me lemons, I'm opting for lemon pound cake!
Hmmm I would never pay $56 for a es compact, I'm sure it's probly tiny! I'm sure there are some though that are far more expensive to!!!
I use these, they quality is amazing. I don't have this exact one though i gotone for $46 but the price is worth it and itwill last me awhile :)
