DHC DEEP CLEANSING OIL!

Sharond here! When I was young (and dumb) I used to go straight to bed after a night out, leaving makeup and all the days dirt on my face. I shudder when I think about it now. I soon accepted the fact that my face could not handle such abuse and that I better do the whole remove makeup, wash, tone and moisturize before going to bed.
I started out trying drug store brands of makeup remover and felt they did not work any better than plain facial soap and water. Then I tried cold crèmes and found they worked much better, but me being me, I felt I was above using something my elderly aunts used. I continued my search off and on for years, however I did not find anything that I felt was worth the money the product cost and just used what ever I was using to wash my face, nothing geared to removing makeup.
A few years ago I got a catalog from DHC in the mail which included four samples, olive oil based makeup remover, pure soap, mild lotion toner and olive oil moisturizer. I used Meg’s advice from a column of hers about stretching samples so that I could give these samples more than one use. I was impressed at how well they worked and made my skin feel clean and hydrated. I finally placed an order and have been using their superstar, the Deep Cleansing Oil ever since.
The Deep Cleansing Oil comes in two sizes, a 6.7 ounce and 2.3 ounce, both in pump bottles. This product is used before cleansing to remove dirt, excess oil, makeup, waterproof mascara and other pore cloggers dissolve easily. It leaves your face totally clean and soft. This olive oil and vitamin E based formula rinses off easily and does not leave a greasy residue yet your skin feels hydrated and not dry. DHC labels this product for everyone, not just dry or oily skin.
DHC is the #1 direct mail skin care company in Japan with over 25 years creating products based on the natural benefits of olive oil without adding unnecessary coloring agents or fragrances. They have two land based stores in the United States, one in New York, New York and the other in Gardena, California. I have only used their mail order service ordering on line. The site is very easy to use, packages come well packed and arrive in about a week. You earn points by referring friends or relatives and on how much you order. Shipping is free depending on the amount of your order. If you sign up for the catalog to come in the mail, you will get two to four samples every month. You also receive samples of your choosing when placing an order.
Interestingly DHC also has a fine food section. I thought I would try several of their offerings and I can highly recommend the olive oil and the germinated brown rice.
Anyone other Ladies fans of the DHC line?

I am so glad you wrote this review! I used to use DHC products and loved them; then eventually I found that I'd run out of them and I started using other things I could find locally. While I'm not a huge fan of the olive oil stuff, I do love their moisturizers and the primer. They are super! They help you figure out which products are best for whatever ails your skin. And they really do work. They are reasonably priced, and I love trying the little samples before buying. Give them a try - check out their website. And now... I need to go place an order. Thanks for the reminder!

I am not a regular user of the olive oil cleanser but I have it and it does work great. Not sure why I don't use it always. Maybe because I rotate cleansers (right now - Neutrogena's foaming cleanser - inexpensive and takes it all off without drying). I wish DHC had a store in NYC. I'd probably use it more but the products are all top quality.
While I don't use DHC products, I use straight olive oil (extra virgin if that matters) as a makeup remover. I just keep a little squirt bottle full of it in my bathroom, then soak a cotton ball with the oily goodness, and bye-bye make-up! It even gently removes my stubborn eyeliner and mascara. I haven't broken out from doing this, but I always follow-up by washing my face with a good cleanser.
Yes! I learned that cleansing skin with oil first draws out impurities, as lipids bond, and my maternal grandmother and mom had nary a problem throughout their loves, as they used Pond's Creme. I think DHC has a small translucent bar which works well, but, like CAC says, "Excuse me--I need to purchase more." Loved this, Sharon.
I got the clear soap sample and used it, i love it. I love the deep cleansing oil too. I keep the sm soap sample for travel. It is good stuff. I forget about them but when I get my magazine w/ the samples I remember how much I enjoy them. Olive Oil is a great product. It is so good for you inside and out. Do U have school age children? if so, here is a olive oil tidbit for u. Your child comes home w head lice, horrifying. What will help? olive oil! wash your childs hair w/ lice shampoo, pour olive oil on the scalp and hair, wrap their head, leave it on a min. of 2 hours but, best over night, wsh their hair, repeat in 2 weeks. Lice breathe thru their sides, olive oil conditions the hair and kills the head lice too.
you can use olive oil on your skin and hair w/out lice too, pediculosis capitis isn't the only reason to deep condition w/ olive oil. GLAM ON W/ VIT E AND OLIVE OIL.
When I was in my 20's I used to come home and go to bed with all my make-up on too, when I think about it now...I cringe! Now that my 40's are here, they've been here for the last 5 yrs, LOL as soon as I get home from work I am gathering up my eye-make-up remover, facial cleanser, facial mask, moisturizer, eye area moisturizer and chapstick . I want the make-up removed as well as the grime of the day OFF MY FACE! I am going to sign up for the catalog and give the samples a try. I lvoe the internal benefits of olive oil, but I've never tryed or used and olive oil based cleanser. I am curious...
I am a HUGE fan of DHC Deep Cleansing Oil. It works so well and so easily on my skin that I've (at last!) happily gotten in the habit of cleaning my face every evening. I've also used their mild soap, which works well for me since I have combination skin that is also quite sensitive. I get so many remarks from people who admire my skin. The Deep Cleansing Oil cleans well without stripping your skin and rinses off cleanly, and there's no oily residue to gunk up your pillowcase! I'm a fan!
I love the Deep Cleansing oil and love getting my samples of it, I still can't justify buying it on a regular basis (I use reg olive oil instead) for me they are a little expensive for cleansers but great samples.
I have received the catalogs and samples and have tried these...never really found any one product that screamed "wow" but I'm thrilled to have this line reviewed as I believe they truly do give many women a chance to experience some good products without venturing out to shop...many are still overwhelmed by the tons of choices and this simple and effective style of marketing is just good business as I see it.I've tried the "oil cleansing method" and honestly found it didn't work for me personally,I'm a Cetaphil girl from wayyyyy back and then use whatever cleanser has me excited that week,LOL! I shudder to think what my skin would look like if I didn't literally steam and soak it clean every evening...
I used to use DHC products. It started when I received one of their catalogues. I love that they always have samples in their catalogues. On the down side regarding samples from them; if you tear out the sample and think about using it later, you will realize there are no instructions on the little sample - so it's best to leave it in the catalogue next to the explanation of the product until you are ready to use it! I liked the DHC products although it's been so long that I dont' remember how I felt about the olive oil based make-up remover. I stopped ordering for the same reason I always stop ordering; it gets expensive and I hate shipping costs on top of it! My current favorite make-up remover especially for eye make-up removal is Extra Virgin Coconut Oil! I love this stuff! It keeps my face hydrated (I have dry skin) and it NEVER ever stings my eyes or leaves them irritated, it just removes every bit of eye makeup and leaves my entire eye area hydrated. I will usually leave the EVCO on my face and just massage it in; after I wipe most of it off with a warm wash cloth.
Jeanasina!
Sharond, thank you for the reminder! I come back to this at least once a year, and always wonder why I tend to opt for the higher-priced spread when this is so good. I suspect because my own favorite, SK-II Cleansing Gel (much more expensive) is in a semi-sollid state and therefore easier to scoop into a small container for safe travel transport. I just never can settle back into my airplane seat while visions of oil leaking into my luggage haunts me. But if that were not my priority I would stay true to DHC, no question. In fact, I'm going to zip over to their site and order some right now.
I used to use DHC also. But I agree I didn't like the shipping cost and just started buying stuff at Whole foods and Sephora. But I did really like it and it work really well. The oil cleanser leaves your skin feeling very clean and soft, they have good eye cream and the velvet cream is amazing. I still get the catalog with the sample in them, I save them for travel.
I received these same samples in the mail years ago. I can't remember how well I liked them, but I do know that I didn't dislike them. I'll have to hit their website and give it another go!
I worry that this would be way too much for my very oily skin. I understand the principle behind it. I am just very skeptical that it could work for my skin type. What do you all think?
I have always been very intrigued by cleansing oils. I have always been curious to try them, but I figured it wouldn't be good for my skin, or that it would clog my pores. But after this review I'm reformulating my thoughts on cleansing oil.
Fairyrave, I share the same concept with you. That's my way of thinking about cleansing oil. I thought it may harm my skin. But with this review, I think I'm gonna use some brands and I wouldn't resume to my old school thinking. Thanks.
I like to clean my face twice a day. I think this is a really good product to try. I really like removing my makeup with oil it makes it easy to remove eyeliner and mascara.
i need to get the whole line to keep my skin in check

My friend sent me a few sample of this, and I have to say I was surprised. First off because I have oily/combo skin... And I was like.. OIL?! But it took all my makeup off very well and left my skin feeling soft without being an oil slick. I don't think I'd use this to replace my cleanser, but it makes a great deep cleaning MU remover before cleanser!! The only thing for me is that it's hard to come by where I live.

Good oils really make for good cleansers.
Good review. Does anyone have the link to Meg's advice on stretching samples? I would love to read that. TIA!

it's amazing how putting oil on my oily skin actually makes it cleaner! And it does not in any way increase the oil production. Smashbox makes a similar product, but it is not nearly as effective.
Oh wow, I have never tried anything like this. Definitely interested in giving it a go, especially since the oily skinned ladie's comments have assured me that it doesn't make their skin any oilier! :P
Wow. Forgot all about this brand. I always got samples in the mail and loved them.
this looks like just the thing i have been after, i hope they ship to the uk
Well, I la-la-love this stuff!!! It's my HG makeup remover. I'm using it now. It's moisturizing and nourishing without being greasy. It removes makeup amazingly... I just love it! I tried the Shu Uemura one too (yellow bottle) I think DHC one is comparable to Shu (well both are Japanese brands) Only the DHC one is a lot cheaper :)
This is amazing but this is out of my price range. :[ My friends use this and rave about how great it is. None of my friends broke out from this,so its good!
I like the foaming cleansers better then the other kinds of cleansers.
I need a good cleanser................................
