RAMAUN MALAYSIAN COFFEE SCRUB!
Hello out there in Meg's land! Sweetassgal here laughing hysterically over a recent dinner with my best girlfriend Adele and her absolutely adorable 2 year old daughter Kyra. Let me just start off by saying that Adele is the kind of girl who tells it like it is. 30 years of friendship and she's always been straightforward and honest...sometimes to the point of endearingly bitchy and that's why we love her. Being a brassy kinda gal she's not one for baby words for body parts like hoo hoo's or wee wee's. Adele is teaching her daughter the anatomical names for her body parts...and in Spanish to boot. So its completely comical when that tiny little toddler points to your chest and says "chi chi's". It downright hysterical when she pulls her shirt away from her chest with both forefingers and thumbs and says "NO chi chi's!!!". I thought I'd wee wee in my big girl pants!
Adele and I had a blast going through my latest shipment from Meg and she zero'd right in on my pack of Biotropics Ramuan Spa Malaysian Coffee Scrub...and a duplicate jar of an upcoming product to review. Friends share! She was excited to see what I thought of it so into my shower went the packet the next morning and the testing began. First off the I'm not crazy about the packaging. I'm not sure if the paper pack was a sample and therefore temporary or if this is really how its sold. But taking a paper packet into a steamy shower doesn't make much sense to me (though the environmental side of me appreciates it). Also...there is not way to get into the packet other than to simply cut or rip open a corner. And once its opened there is no resealing so it's just going to sit open in your bathroom. To use you pour a little into your hand and mix with enough water to make a paste. As soon as I poured the thick powder into my palm I was immediately hit by the heady scent of COFFEE mixed with Oryza sativa, cinnamon, screwpine leaf extract and cassia tora leaf extract. Its a GREAT scent for waking you up and getting you going. I absolutely loved the smell of it...and I knew I would. So I cupped my hand under the shower and dribbled the water onto the powder. I wasn't sure how much to use and so I rubbed my hands together to mix it. I hadn't used enough water the first time and it was just kind of goopey. I just needed a few more drops of water but now both of my hands were covered in it and I couldn't put my hands directly under the shower stream because it would rinse it off. I put my shoulder against the water and let a little dribble down to the paste. This was not an easy process and I think a premixed tub of scrub that I could just dip into would be a preferred method.
According to the directions you scrub gently for twenty minutes on needed areas and repeat twice a week. The scrub was very gentle. No harsh beads or crushed bits that can actually damage your skin by inflicting tiny little tears. The scent lingers and is truly invigorating which was by far my favorite thing about it. I hit my elbows first which have a tendency to be dry and then went at my feet as I tend to garden barefoot and they needed attention. The scrub was gently affective on my elbows but not enough for my feet. It was a little odd watching the coffee colored water run down my shower and I noticed that it left a slight stain on my grout which did not make me happy. Who the heck puts white grout in a bathroom shower anyway? As my mother would say....NOT the person who cleans the bathroom. Anyway, overall the scrub was good for light exfoliation, the scent is a perfect morning pick me up and the packaging needs some rethinking in my view.
If you like a coffee scent in the morning then you may overlook the difficulty of the application and just enjoy the spa like aroma. I'll probably ziplock baggie the rest of mine and save it for one of my little Meg's sample parties. I've had a lot of fun sharing my products with my friends and trying them on new people. Some things work for me and some for my friends. We all have different likes and dislikes.
For those reviewers who got a pack...let me know what you think and if its gentle enough to use on YOUR chi chi's! Go Kyra and GLAM ON!!!!

Sounds like you do better with yours in a cup girl,LOL! I wondered how the coffee-scrub would work out!I tested the "Coconut" version by this company and honestly,I loved it.I mixed about 1/2 of the packet (which truly is lame-o) in a plastic container on the side of my tub and then rubbed the wonderfully-smelling coconut-crea, pie mixture, more like a paste,on those nasty-bits prior to hopping in the tub!Can I tell you how many products I've rinsed down the drain by accident in my tiny shower? Mixing first, apply, then tub for me,LOL! I think the company has a lovely philosophy but I couldn't find a current place to buy this although thew do say it will be at GNC and spas.I liked the product a lot but there are are few shortcomings...LOVE your idea of a sample party, saving mine for a big one to come!
I used to love playing in the mud, actually I still do. This scrub is seriously cool. The color and consistency is reminiscent of my beloved mud patty's and just as much fun to play with. However, as you read, it's not a mud-scrub, but instead a fantastic coffee scrub. It was so dark that it made me wonder if it might leave a subtle stain on my skin after repeated use. I think I might like that. I LOVED the scent, coffee, cinnamon, and other heady aromas that made me feel a bit like giggling. (I am very easily influenced by scent, really that's just code for "perpetual moodiness".) It worked so well for me that I didn't even mind the small mess it made in my shower. BUT, the best part was how wonderful my skin felt afterwards. I like to test scrubs by NOT applying any moisturizer immediately post-use. It helps me gauge how drying a product is to my terribly sensitive, KP riddled skin. The moisturizing qualities are IMPRESSIVE, no lotion necessary. Anything that helps my chicken skin look and feel this good is of value because it really tones down my problem with KP (keratosis pilaris). I am guessing this scrub respects the skin's delicate pH balance and aids in optimal shedding of dead skin, without over-drying. Works for me....Sweetass, you give the best information and always make me laugh. I could easily picture you in the shower with your wet packet. (Whoa, that was not meant to sound sexual, but I think I just created a new word for the VaJayJay: "Wet Packet" HA! LOL!) Back to the scrub..... Like the lovely mjsred, I mixed mine in a little bowl before I got in the shower and just kept dipping into my supply as needed. We must have received the sample size. I checked out the website and clicked on the "where to buy" icon and the result was, "Fill out the form below, and you’ll receive the first notification of where and when you can buy Ramuan products at a store near you." Hmmm, I am guessing it just isn't completely available yet.I loved your story about Kyra. I am raising my two girls the same way. You should have seen my mom's reaction the first time one of them blurted out something about her vagina! I also wanted to suggest that you might want to try applying Tea Tree Oil (what else, right?) to your heels 2-3 times per week. It can really help to soften the skin in that area, I have had good results doing this. I also apply it to naked, clean toenails a few times per month, you never know what germs could be lurking in even the nicest salons. This Public Service Tea Tree Oil announcement has been brought to you by none other than your favorite, annoying broken record: Stylemama. (;
For stylemama (one of my beauty favs) LMAO "wet packet" is now my new jj reference! Also, thanks to you, I own tea tree oil (organic, of course). I would love it if you would write something to share with how to use it to its full potential. Right now I'm having trouble getting past the smell (eww!). I trust your wisdom, please teach me how to love this.
The coffee one sounds great, would wake you up in the morning as well,I read somewhere naoimi campbell uses coffee grounds from the bottom of the pot as a body scrub and mjs red not lame-o at all ,clever.

After reading about the Ramuan Malaysian Coffee Scrub reviewed here I was anxious to get home that day and see if that’s what I had in my little packet from the same line of Ramaun Spa products by Biotropics that Meg had sent. I’m not a big coffee drinker (I have one cup a day on average) but my Harley Husband drinks probably 13 cups or more a day! He has coffee when he gets up, has more coffee as he wakes up, has more before his shower; fills his thermus with coffee for the day and has a before he leaves for work cup of coffee too! He LOOOOOOOOOOOVES coffee! For him a day without coffee is DEFINITELY a day without sunshine! I was thinking if I got the coffee smelling scrub that the fumes might waft their way into other rooms in the house and that my man would be running towards the scent and what a surprise that would be when he found out the scent was on me and I was naked! LOL! Although if he saw the brownish stains you mentioned on the grout and smelled my coffee aroma he might just say "You better not be using my good coffee in your shower!" LOL! I found out that I didn't have this coffee scrub but a delightful Relaxing Face Mask made by the same company! I can't wait to tell you all about it!
Jeanasina!
I am dying:literally spitting and honking."Wet Packet" indeed...HAHAHAHA! You are such a hot mess girl!!!
Sounds nice!
Sing Van Morrison's line from "Jackie Wilson Said." I'm in Heaven with this. Lancome used to carry a scrub and masque and it transformed anyone to stunning. Sometimes I use Joey New, but I was blown away by this. There were no annoying particles in crevices. The gentle formula is amazine. To repeat what others remarked, the scent is a treatment as well! Potion Princess is right about the coffee grounds. Stylemama, you have me howling! MJSred, I am clueless when I use some items in the shower and am the "Queen of Overkill." I lost 3/4 of the "Big Hair" shampoo I purchase from Lush and pricey gels. I am challenged in this area. The gentle quality impressed me greatly!
YIKES! I'm in pain and worded that horribly and was replete with errors. Indi, forgive me, please, along with the rest of you!
i have been reading about homemade scrubs from ground coffee and olive oil... problem is, i dont drink coffee (yes, i am weird), so now i gotta buy coffee just for scrub sake, lol. i do love the scent of coffee though!
i like my scrub to come out of a bottle to be squeezed - is that spoiled?

i love coffee! I have a lovely nespresso coffee machine (my best buddy in the morning!) the caffiene in coffee is supposed to be great for cellulite-reminds me of a time i tried t do a "coffee wrap" to rid myself of the orange peel affect, it was a disaster! I painted coffee onto my legs (instant coffee dissolved in hot water) then tried to tightly wrap cling film around my thighs-so hard to do on your own on wet legs!!! and what a mess i made!!!! i wonder if spreading a paste of this mask onto problem areas and sleeping with it on would help for cellulite?! just a thought! (would the smell keep you awake?!)this sounds like it would smell lovely!!!stylemama that is so so so funny-in the shower with your wet packet!! hahahahahaha!
This sounds incredibly difficult to use but it still tempts me because of the coffee scent, I love anything that smells like coffee.
