My Gorgeous Friend's Secret to Incredible Makeup!

Goddess Granny
here! This is a "special edition" post because some info came my way that was simply WAY too good not to share with my peeps here at "Meg's!"

You know how sometimes you just hear something that makes you go "HUH???" but deep down in your heart, you are secretly hoping it's the truth because it will save you a ton of money, put you into that coverted inner-circle loop of cool-info, or give you access to something so special or unique that you will become the envy of your family and friends?

We all have the "gorgeous friend": you know the one that wakes up looking so damn good that you want to slap her over coffee? The one who seemingly never gets a pimple, cellulite,or split-ends? THAT one...the one who also can usually afford because of the nauture of her gorgeousness, the very best in products and services that the world has to offer?
I spent sometime with my "that friend" recently and while I was nibbling at my tiny bites of sushi and she was wolfing down her honkin' plate of pasta with breadsticks (because the b**** never gains an ounce no matter what!) I marveled at the way her luminous skin really DID seem to be without a single crease and how her perfectly-applied (after consultation with THE best makeup artists,no doubt!) makeup was still just that after 3 hours of shopping and lunch: perfect and without any wear and tear,no oil slicks,no creases, and no nothing but perfection.

She started giggling and leaned towards me with her perfect lips and blindingly-white teeth and whispered: "Monistat" and then started laughing like a mating hyena!!!

I didn't think I heard her correctly and asked again what she was using on her skin as I figured it was some $350.00 an ounce foundation or a $480.00 daycream or something.
Monistat. The beautiful b**** is smearing a hybrid cream by a noted va jay-jay company on her face just to mock me.

Okay, hear me out because it's SO worth it,you're gonna' love me: apparently while she was "doing a fashion show" for a local charity in Dallas over the Holidays, the pro-makeup artist had introduced her to a very non-typical use for the "Soothing Relief Chafing Powder Gel" that the Monistat company produces. Also known as "Soothing Care Chafing Relief Gel",they are one in the same.

By all reports and by the looks of my friend's amazing,long-lasting,and flawless makeup, this product multi-tasks as THE BEST skin-primer under makeup out there!!!
Those in the know and the pros have been using it for a while with great results and it can be a bit hard to find but I will hook you up in a minute. :)

After I called her names and kept begging her to tell me HONESTLY what it was,she finally pulled up this link on her PDA and I sat there reading while she accepted business cards from every man in the immediate area.

Monistat AS A PRIMER!!

Check it out but here are the basics of what you need to know about using this product as a prep for makeup:

Here's a summary of what women reported they liked best about Monistat Chafing Relief Powder-Gel as a makeup primer (foundation base).

· Dries to a powder finish.
· Creates a matte surface so makeup glides on and stays on.
· Smooths out large pores, uneven skin tone and blemishes.
· Prevents breakouts.
· Allows for much smoother for eye shadow application on mature skin.
· Keeps make-up looking fresh by locking it in.
· Makes your face look youthful and dewy.
· Helps concealer glide on.
· Doesn't feel greasy.
· Helps mineral make up last longer and look less cakey.
· Makeup stays on for 8+ hours, looking as good as when first applied.
· Excellent mattifier on top of any cream/lotion/sunscreen.
· Fragrance free.
· Non-irritating.
· Non-toxic.
· Non-staining
· Smooths skin texture which reflects light and eliminates
    shadows (so you look younger)
· Tasteless (if someone kisses your cheek)
· Non-pore-clogging (non-comedogenic)
· Keeps your makeup fresh in 100+ degree heat (great for summer)
· Gentle enough to use every day.
· Softens appearance of fine lines.

I dumped her fine-butt off and made a bee-line for the drugstore...none in stock...then another...nope...then the last one on my way home and asked the girl doing a re-stock of the shelves if they had any.She glanced at my crotch and suggested I try the "One Day" formula for immediate relief and I had to explain to her that I wasn't doing the burnin' walk of shame,I just wanted to try some of the powder-gel for chits and grins. All they had on hand was a "kit" and it included a tiny tube of the treasured stuff which was good enough for me,I just wanted to be able to try it out and would stalk it like Christian Bale if it proved to be the secret to my friend's success!

The stuff is PURE GENIUS and not only is it THE best primer EVER to touch my skin,I swear it's made the texture of it nicer as well!!!

You see it's not that Monistat. Yes, it's the same company but this powder-gel has NOTHING to do with the Monistat yeast infection products. (This product doesn't treat yeast infections.)

Monistat's Chafing Relief Powder-Gel is actually part of the Monistat Soothing Care Skin Care line and was developed to complement Monostat's medical products.
For literally a fraction of what you'd spend on famous name base makeup primers, the Monistat Chafing Relief Powder-Gel does a better job because it contains a ton of dimethicone which is the key, active ingredient in the expensive primers.

Dimethicone creates a barrier for your skin which evens out your skin's surface much the same way you use a base coat on your nails before applying color

All I will tell you from this point on is to check out the link above, read around a bit more if you like, and then go here to buy it for less than $7.00 a flippin' tube!!!:

BUY IT HERE!!

So the next time YOU are the one sitting there with your "Gorgeous Friend",you'll have the upper-hand and your makeup will look a helluva' lot better than hers does...gameover. :)

This is why I LOVE MEG'S...we get to share stuff like this and absolutely no one among us will fail to see the humor and/or the necessity of such a find!!!

Anyone else have a "non-traditional" use for a site-specific product? :)

I was very skeptical until I read the benefits.  This does make sense.  I love innovative minds and truly appreciate this suggestion.  My skin still breaks out monthly and makeup melts in the sun.  I am more than weary looking like I'm the proverbial "last rose of summer" while my husband, family, and friends appear as though they've just stepped out of the shower.  The women always have makeup perfectly intact.  Interesting--I passed a jar of "Mayonnaise for Hair" in a discount store.  In high school, my sister and I used it as a deep conditioner and it worked like nothing else did.  We whipped us facial exfoliators and masques from oatmeal.  Angie just shared a recipe and that makes me recall Jeanasina's.  I trust you completely--sometimes the things that work best are staring us right in the face and we don't see them.  Drugstore, here I come (yet, again).  Thanks much!

Holy frickin' crap!  It's Sunday afternoon and I just turned in and read Goddess Granny's review and I am astonished, as well as completely delighted with the new knowledge!  Goddess Granny you are smokin' girl!  My statement might have been 'smokin' crack' had I not read the entire review!  This review was absolutely sensational and I HAVE to try this as will every single person who reads your review today!  I laughed out loud and had to do a re-read because...let me mention your review had me feeling every single word you wrote about your knock-out friend and your thoughts about her!  You are SO funny - I love to read anything you write about girl!  Plus you can always feel you smiles and/or laughter through your words!  I love that about you!  Plus your sheer exhillerating excitement about sharing this news - well it just comes off of the internet and sweeps over the person reading until they too are smiling and getting hooked on your happy energy!  How cool is that?  When I saw the word Monistat my own personal lower regions began quivvering with dread, as the name Monistat never in a million years conjures up an image of a breathtakingly beautiful face!  It usually brings to mind an image of a freaked out, agonized, stressed out, woman on the verge of a psychotic episode unless she gets some relief from the burning and itching Monistat is known to relieve!  This is some powerful information lady!  I'm glad you clarified about the difference in Monistat products otherwise right after reading your mind-blowing commentary I would have stuck a couple of Monistat suppositories between my lip and gum to see if they would help to smooth out the wrinkles in my lips!  Absolutely love the freakin' daylights out of you GG!

Goddess Granny is one hundred percent spot on. Monistat works, it really really works. I heard this a couple years ago, and, I confess, I haven't told many people.  I know, I am awful, LOL.  I have various samples of different primers and will occassionally use those, and a lot of them work, and work fine, but, the Monistat works as well or better than any. Now I have to run out and stock up, since I suspect its going to get even harder to find. I have always dreaded the day the people at Monistat decide to repack it and charge more. I hope that day never comes, but, I am going to have to add this to my stash item list.

Had to add something...first off as soon as I can get this stuff - I'm trying it and then talking more about my actual experience which I hope will be as good as it sounds!  I searched the internet to see if Walgreens carries it...nope...but I found it at drugstore.com for $7.99 and there are 83 reviews of this grand product, most 5 stars no matter what they use it for and...there are other ladies out there that testify to the absolute love of this product as a primer!  Who knew?  We all know now!  Thank you again for this awesome tip you magnificent walking ball of red-headed live wire beauty!  You speak and we learn and learn and learn! I'm waiting at the carwash and used their free Wi-FI to see what is going on at Meg's.  I saw the Monistat product, and at first wasn't too surprised to see it being used on the face.  Actually, antifungal/yeast products are prescribed for many different facial medical problems.  But then I read that it isn't the same type of product that is used for a burning va jay-jay (remember, I live with 3 women, and have seen my share of Oprah shows too!--I sometimes get outvoted 3:1 on the channel we watch).  So I thought that it was clever when a new use was found for a product that was meant to be used for other purposes.  I don't know how I might benefit or use it (but if there is a way, the expert Stylemama will let me know).  Well I'm headed for the drugstore to get some Soothing Care Monistat for Stylemama to try out.  If I find it, you will probably see her post.

I have been using Monitstat for years on my face.  When my son was born, he turned 21 on 3/2, I also used Monitstat on diaper rash which is really yeast infection.  I have passed this hint to many people.  I even told the doctor and he laughed and agreed!

Goddess Granny, this is a great post and I love your sense of humor! I heard about using Monistat a while ago, but read that the formula is pretty thick, which can be troublesome for oil, acne-prone gals like me, so I haven't tried it yet. So far, the Clarins primer in the little red pot works best for me. BTW, if you go to youtube and search for "monistat face primer" there are TONS of video reviews, so you can see how well it really works.

As I read your review, I just kept thinking I wish I was the one going out and having a fabulous lunch dates with you!Stylepapa really did come home with a tube of this stuff for me to try. What a great guy!  I am very curious to know if this will work for someone with funky, super-sensitive skin like myself.  We all need to try this and report back.  Yet, another reason why I love MMU and all of you so much.  Monistat for a smooth complexion, now that is thinking outside of the box.

This sounds exactly like a lancome product Iused to use,it was a gel that dried to powder form, except Id get away cheaper  with this.Wow never even heard of it.think this is one to buy on the net or trick someone else into buying.like the famous hamerroid cream for your face trick(theres supposed to be a bit of a giveaway smell though)Stylemama all I have to say is that man really loves you,I read somewhere too that you can use cat litter as a face mask(but you have to make sure its 100%fullers earth litter and decant into a pretty jar)for presentation reasons also you could mix in a little, rose or lavender when mixing with water for a paste, thanks goddess granny.

outrayjust says,

After this post and watching some of the YouTube reviews, I decided to do a little experiment. When I was a teen, my mom used to use Vaseline as a night cream/moisture mask. It locked in natural moisture by creating a barrier, much like dimethicone. And she'd wake up with dewy, soft, supple skin. I decided to try it. And, in fact, being a mad skincare scientist from a young age, it occurred to me that it'd work even better over my regular moisturizer, the one with all the antioxidants and vitamins....why not lock that stuff in there, too?Sadly there were a couple of drawbacks:1) The smell2) It also locked the world out and my skin couldn't breath! The only mass breakout I ever had as a teen came from this earlier experimentWell, I thought it'd be interesting to repeat the experiment with the Monistat (it's not like a raging eruption on my face would effect my life or anything). I'm older and so is my skin. It's much drier now, albeit just as sensitive. So, after slathering on the 7 layer dip I call my nighttime beauty routine, I added a very thin coat of the Monistat. It felt amazing. Off to a great start. And I am pleased to report that I woke up with soft, supple, dewy skin to the touch. But even more pleasing was the reflection in the mirror. My skin looked soft, supple and dewy....glowy, even. No patchiness. No visible lines. No darkness (and I didn't sleep enough). And most importantly, no breakouts. All clear!

I meant to mention one non-traditional use for something intended to be used for something else entirely!  LOL!  It’s not a makeup product however but it sure works out well for some little items in the realm of makeup, skincare etc!  We have a medicine cabinet (as most people do) from the old days style of bathrooms and it is behind our mirror over the sink.  The little shelves are approximately 2 inches deep.  I discovered that the small clear glass (round or square) candle holder containers work wonderfully for holding things like q-tips, cotton balls, tiny vials of sample perfumes, a few emergency lipsticks, etc. and they fit just right on those shelves and make it a bit easier to organize those little things we put on the shelves behind the mirror!  I'm talking the small candle holders for tealights or the next size up little candle.  Since they are made of clear glass you can totally see what's inside the containers and it saves a lot of time for digging around looking for your little stuff!  However if you are someone prone to sudden jerky movements or major bouts of intoxication you won't want to use glass candle holder deals as they are dangerous if they fall into the sink!  Maybe empty de-labeled prescription bottles would work better if that's what you have going on!

So...as our story continues...I was dying to try this after reading the fabulous write up here so I went to Target last week and there were two entire rows devoted to the Monistat Chafing Relief product but both rows were entirely sold out!  So I waited patiently, constantly stalking this isle which featured the Monistat Chafing Relief.  I’m sure people thought my thighs were RAW or something and thus the reason why I was so obviously jonesing for this stuff!  What they saw day after day was me looking at the empty rows where the product was meant to be and then shaking my fist at the air shouting “COME ON!!!!!!!!!!!! How hard can it be to keep your stock current?”  I kept going back until the shelves were restocked this weekend and immediately snatched up my Monistat box of what we now know has an alias - facial primer, and practically ran to the checkout counter!  It is $5.99 at Target by the way.

I couldn’t wait to try it!  I will revert back and tell you that a few weeks ago I had my first real foray (yes it’s true) into using a ‘primer’ before I put on my foundation.  The experience happened at Kohl’s where a lovely sales girl applied a product called SMOOTH-365 Intensive Clarity + Smoothing Peptide Serum which boasts  “Instant visible results and long-term visible improvement in one breakthrough product. From the scientists at good skin™ labs, SMOOTH-365 is a unique, potent and absolutely effective, state-of-the-art complex perfecting the overall quality of your skin's appearance, right now and well into the future.”
At the time of this experience I was blown away at just what a facial ‘primer’ can do!  My skin felt like silk!  The cost of this Smooth 365 primer was $42.50!  There was no way I could buy that right now so again, when this topic came up my eyes were glued to the article because after all, I had just learned that FACE PRIMERS rock and make such a huge difference.

So in the privacy of my own home; I applied the Monistat and thought “This feels exactly the same as the Kohls product!” SOLD!  I even had my husband feel my face and he agreed that it was so SMOOOOOOTH!  I love this stuff and Goddess Granny you are without question MY HERO!  If you were here; I’d have everybody pass you around the room with their hands like they do to rock band members!  You just are constantly a fan favorite!

I had just bought my first bottle of Smashbox primer a couple of months ago after hearing so many people rave about it, and I thought it was awesome, but wasn't sure how I could continue to afford it! This Monistat works exactly the same! It feels exactly the same! I am eternally grateful to you Goddess Granny!!P.S. I truly hope Monistat doesn't jack the price up though when it starts getting sold out across the country!

This did work as a great primer.. the downside... after a week it broke me out!! :(   So sadly I have to say this worked yet did not work for me!  Once I stopped using the Monistat my face returned to normal.

I remember the first time I heard of this, I googled like mad looking for all the reviews I could find. Everyone was raving about it, so I figured I'd give it a shot. How could you not? It's so affordable. They don't have it where I live, but luckily I was heading into the US so I picked up like 5 and the lady was giving me the shifty eye. I love it though!

i have been using Monistat as a primer for a while now, and I do like a smooth texture it creates. if you have sensitive skin or acne prone skin, you may want to test it first. i think it aggravates my skin sometimes, if I have pimples.

i heard so much mixed reviews on this being a face primer but since i have it i think i'll try it out later.  i use it mainly as a eyeshadow primer and honestly i love it.  i think it does a better job for me than the too faced insurance and lasts longer.  still don't think it's as great as urban decay primer potion but it does get the job done :)

Like Outrayjust, my skin breaks out when I have silicones on it! Smashbox Photo Finish primer and Monistat both have silicones in it, so either one might break you out.

As soon as I read this post, I went right to the link and ordered it from Amazon. It really does work, and I like it more than my Smashbox primer, it seems to give me more of a matte finish, which I like, especially with my oily skin.

I've heard great things about this, but I've also heard that it can cause break outs.Is that true? Anyone had any issues with breakouts?

HAHA I had the same reaction when I saw some chicks using it on youtube. I dragged my sister to Walmart and she asked me what I wanted it for.     Let me tell you I have oily skin + I live in Florida and it makes my Everyday Mineral Makeup look great.  Note make sure to remove make up well to prevent breakouts even though I havent had any.

A primer for less than $7?! Wowee! Sounds too good to be true. I'll pick this up and try it out once my current primer runs out. *I hope I'll love it as much as everyone else!*
