PHYSICIAN'S FORMULA!

Gigi here! The white coat I wear for official scientific skin care product testing is in the washer, and thus we’ll deal with other items today. Okay, the truth—drugstore skin care is costly, as you know; companies claim that the benefits are all-inclusive, promising flawless skin and swampland in Florida. I try any line for a minimum of two weeks before I feel competent about filling my lovely pink champagne flutes or leaving them empty.
I had read that Physicians Formula mineral concealer is worthy of consideration. On my way down the aisle to purchase it, I heard, “Psst, gullible—over here!” from another display by this firm. I turned away and I swear Aerosmith’s “Walk This Way” played as it beckoned again. I found two products which work best in tandem: Their new Line Erase Rx Wrinkle-Filling (and Firming and Lifting) Concealer and CoverTox Ten50™ Wrinkle Therapy Face Powder, each about $8.99. The words that made me finally hand over my debit card? “Needle-free instant results” (I like those) and “proven.” I’m a sap for numbers, and the packaging states “70% reduction in deep lines” (for concealer) and “Over 50% visible wrinkle reduction in ten minutes” and “90% visibly smoother skin in ten days” (for the powder). Be still my heart! Was this possible? I knew what to do: check out the ingredients.
These read like an encyclopedia, but some of the most powerful are Hyaluronic Acid, currently popular and believed to stimulate the production of Collagen, the “glue” that keeps skin from losing elasticity and remaining supple. Collagen has been nicknamed “the elixir of youth.” GABA is an amino acid which works in conjunction with the central nervous system; it has been shown to calm and relax the body, including the facial wrinkles developed from stress, frowning, squinting, etc. Lecithin is present in food but is also an emollient that fills in and plumps lines.
The concealer is available in soft yellow as well as natural shades. Don’t eschew yellow—long ago, Mary Kay was a pioneer in recognizing its efficacy in combating red patches, dark circles, and blemishes. The majority of foundations use yellow in various degrees for this reason. The concealer comes in a wand dispensed by twisting the bottom. Place dots under eyes and then blend oh-so-softly with your ring finger from the outside in, as it is your weakest and the least likely to tug on your body’s most fragile tissue. Although I don’t have wrinkles, veins tend to be visible here. Gone! I see the potential of laugh lines appearing. I addressed these as well and covered two small blemishes. It was easy to use.
The powder can be worn alone or over makeup. Though I am quite fair, “Translucent Medium” enhanced my skin and kept me from looking like a Goth. Apply lightly, in downward strokes where you want to disguise pores (keep powder away from eyes, except to dust lids as a primer, as it will draw attention to creases). I was surprised that Physicians Formula would make such bold claims, but there was a huge difference in my appearance! My skin felt more taut and was brightened and refined. I wore it to bed (for shame). I awoke with the products still intact. Ah, they last. Then I did a terrifying thing: I cleansed and reapplied in the brutality of the morning sun. Once more, I was transformed! My sister had the same stunning results. I was tempted to leave the house just that way. Okay, so I used a little color, but I knew that my skin looked good and felt the same. Fill the flutes!

Gigi, this sounds absolutely wonderful! I go through mineral makeup super fast (which is not good since I use the pricey Bare Minerals) because I have a ton of redness and various degrees of broken out areas. I would like to use concealer, but when I tried using Maybelline's mineral concealer, the colors just weren't right for my skin. It was obvious I had dots on my face even though I blended and blended and blended. I've used the Phy. For. green concealer - yuck! It turned me gray. Is this similar to that? Or is that the mineral concealer you went to buy and bought these products instead? Oh, and what color concealer did you get? I'll have to go to the drugstore after my finals are over and look at these products. Who knows, I may have to go before just to get a break from the madness!
Oh this sounds great! Gigi I remember when you wrote your first review last summer on Physician's Formula products, specifically the eyeshadow palets, and I ran out and bought some the next day. I had never tried anything from their line before and I fell in love! It was the smoothest shadow ever, and the pigment actually looked just as deep on my lids as it did in the box (which seems to be rare)! I can also use the palet I bought for a bronzer and it's gorgeous that way also. I am certainly going to have to try these products because everything you recommend is fabulous!
Okay, I'm really glad you answered this, Gigi, because the photo looked like powder, not liquid. I'm going to search these out (bet I'll find them in Wagreens -- they have everything! -- and report back.
I absolutely love their Organic wear 100% Natural Origin Tinted Moisturizer. I find myself reaching over the so called "good":ie expensive, products. I find that it gives me just the right amount of coverage and good moisture to be able to face the day with out a full blown makeup session. I think this line is going to be making headlines for a long time. Very impressed. Add to your must buy list.

Beautiful write up Gigi. I have always wanted to try this line but never have. Thank God you review drugstore deals, I end up purchasing quite a few of your "picks". I have a REAL problem with allergies. Ultimately, one of the many side effects is redness in the outer corners of my eyes. My eyes tear up, leaving the skin in that area raw and angry looking. Do you think this concealer would work well in such close proximity to the eye? This cycle of tearing, leaking, irritation and finally constant redness is driving me mad. In a strained and quivering voice I ask you Gigi, (sniff) Will your miracle concealer help me? If not, then spill cuz I need your expertise baby!
Gigi, I really did love your review of this-as I do all of them. I can't always purchase the higher end products. You are more of my real world life-line for beauty needs. So are you saying that this would work well to conceal acne?
These products really DO conceal and work well, the color range is excellent but alas, they wreck havoc with my skin (as do all mineral-based products) although I highly reccommend them and agree with Darlin'Gigi as to how wonderful they are!I think the line is innovative and comprehensive and one of THE best in the drugstores!Keep it comin' girl...we need that good stuff that works and doesn't break the bank more than ever these days!
Every time I saw those Physicians Formula wrinkle products, I was like, YEAH RIGHT. I'm going to shell out my $$$ for a drugstore product and it'll suck. Now you're making me want it like crazy!!!

I own a lot of Physicians Formula products. I like the brand especially the bronzers
Like Caramel Diva said, I have some bronzer from Physicians formula and I love it! I also have a tinted moisturizer, which I like, but definitely don't love...Anyway, I really like the concealer that you described, it sounds really nice and like it would be easy to apply.
I love Physician's formula. I haven't tried these products. But I do love their concealers. I have the extra strength green goo in a tube that is reminiscent of the green goo I used to repair my bike tires with as a child. This green goo, more fondly known as concealer is amazing! I was going to get the cheaper one, but after seeing the dramatic before and after pictures on the back of the packaging I was sold. For those of you who don't know, green concealer is used to cover redness. It was the day before my graduation and i needed a green concealer fast. It was approximately 2am, and I didn't have time to go to the mall the next day before graduation. I had my foundation routine down flawlessly, to coer almost anything. Well I had done my makeup that day really well, it covered everything except for the redness. I had some monstrous things living on my face at the time. I had used regular concealer, my foundation, and powder. i knew that if anything my face would be worse by the next day, because of all the stress. So I decided to take a quick trip to the Walmart. This is were I found and fell in love with the super strength goo in a tube by Physician's Formula!
this has become my favorite brand - they are so versatile in their product offerings and are def affordable and easy to find

I recently purchased Physician's Formula Bronze Booster powder bronzer, and it totally rocks!!!! It's great, buildable coverage that never turns orange, and no matter how much I layer on, it doesn't look fake. CVS always seems to be running a special on this brand, usually buy one get one 1/2 off, so even though it's not the least expensive brand in the aisle, it's still a good deal!
my sister loves these powder
I like organic products. I have few PHYSICIAN'S FORMULA items, like concealer rx and eye shadows and they are very good.
For a drugstore makeup brand, it works fairly well.
I like the bronzers, but cannot use the foundation as it oxidizes horribly on my skin!!
I used to use Physician's formula (it trumps the other drugstore brands!!!) until I discovered EDM :)
wow! how often do drugstore products actually stand up to their claims? haha, i end up returning half the stuff i buy from the drugstore because it just doesnt work. i dont need a powder right now, but this sounds like a good one to keep my skin nice and supple.
I like Physician's Formula overall, I have some of their products and have liked all of them
wow, that sounds awesome Gigi. I wonder what else they have in them. I haven't tried anything physicians formula before, maybe I should.

i want to try this SO badly, but im afriad of getting the wrong shade! i like how this *appears* to have no shimmering stuff!
I'm scared of getting the wrong shade too! I can't even find my perfect concealer.
:O I need to go stare at this when I go shopping at the drugstore next
thanks for the review! :D il probably try this...need a new concealer! :P
I'm going to have to try this brand. I always see it but never gave it a shot.
this looks amazing! i really want to try this!

I feel very confused when I get to the Physician's Formula section of my drugstore's beauty wall. While all the other brands have their little walls neatly organized into product-type divisions, the PF wall is just a giant wall of sameness. L'Oreal and Maybelline and CoverGirl have little shelves and trays and such glued to the wall so I can quickly find the little lipstick army and the eyeshadow soldiers all in a row. PF is just a bunch of stuff with no trays or armies at all! I usually just walk past. Anyone else have this problem?
brow extender. that's crazy. I'll stick the lash extending.
