KAPLANMD! LIP 20 TREATMENTS!
Meg here! Thanks so much for Caroline Roman introducing Megsmakeup to the kaplanMD line! She reviewed kaplanMD Perfecting Serum a while back and spoke about all of the compliments she was getting on her skin.
Caroline is a born and bred Beverly Hills girl and is very familiar with all the fabulous that goes on in her town. She called me up and invited to me to the Neiman Marcus luncheon with Dr. Stuart Kaplan.
I love to play a little "ladies who lunch!" I was sure to meet her and Dr. Kaplan later that week.
I'm going to share some tips with you that come straight from the Dr. and you're not going to like them...LADIES-Stop with the lip plumpers! You know this advice is coming from Miss No Top Lip so it hurts me to tell you this more then it hurts you to hear!
Your lip plumper works because it's causing irritation that causes your lips to swell. Basically, every time you plump with a liquid you're causing a little allergic reaction. You know what else you're causing? Wrinkles!
I guess it makes perfect sense. Filling and deflating is like when you gain weight and then lose it and then gain it and then lose it-Hi! Meet me! My name is stretch marks. Applying plumper over and over is like sending a daily invitation for wrinkles to come live around your lips.
Ready for some more harmful stuff your doing? You guys are going to freak out with this one but here comes the doozey...You know how slathering yourself with baby oil would help you glisten and really soak in those UV's for a deep tan? You know that's bad. Now we know it's really bad. You see the raisins running around tan that lived on the aluminon foil back in the day. Guess what you're doing to your lips everytime you put on your shiny, sun-soaking up gloss? Yup, you're doing some major sun damage=aging to your lips!
Who knew?
I sure as heck didn't make this corralation but the lightbulb went off as Dr. Kaplan was showing photo's and explaining this major mistake.
Seeing all of our naughty behavior for the vanity of supple, shiny lips led Dr. Kaplan to create his own line of Lip 20 Treatments. "The first complete anti-aging lip treatment that moisturizes, repairs, adds natural fullness and protects with SPF 20 – all in one!"
We can now be safe and beautiful! What a concept!
This is a real grown-up (not cheap) lip treatment. The package screams luxury. I'm sure the reason Neiman Marcus is the only department store to carry this line is because it is exactly tailored for a Neiman Marcus shopper! The case is a twist up silver tube, don't worry about losing the cap. The cap disappears inside of the tube as you twist the lip treatment up.
There is an array of colors to chose from and your smoocher is going to thank you everytime you glide this baby on. It is instantly healing and moisturizes the second it comes onto contact. It's very fancy schmancey and you'll be the envy of all pulling it out to apply.
It will last you quite a while, I can't say it's a total deal unless you look at the long run. $30 may seem like a fortune for a lip balm until you start comparing it to the $500 shots you're going to need in your lip wrinkles 5 years from now. Think about it that way and you're getting off pretty easy!
These are really revolutionary on a whole bunch of levels. Use it over your favorite lipstick and you'll get the moisture and the protection.
Ladies, please let us know what you think of kaplanMD Lip 20 Treatments and what color you're sporting!

Thank you, Meg, for sending the colorless lip balm, truly a fabulous find. I'm wearing it as I type, in a perfect blending of high-end and low: $30 lip balm under $6 Mark lip tint, and both are amazing. After wearing this smoothing, soothing wonder all weekend I let my fingers trot over to the Neiman Marcus web site to order a color version of the Lip 20 treatment, only to find that every single item is now on back order. Seems that good news travels fast, and great news travels like greased lightning. I'll be back.
Thanks Meg for the info on lip plumpers! I've tried a few of them and they always make my lips burn and itch. And, my lips never seem to have "plumped".
Great info, Meg. Thanks! I don't use plumpers but I'm a gloss ho. I'm going to get some of this balm. It looks great and I now realize I cannot live without it! I thank you, although my budget won't...

Shhhhhhhhhh, So what is the secret? There are 4 things I like to have on my night stand. First a picture of dragonfly1, second my blackberry (alarm clock and email all in one) and I can't live without it, third is H20 and finally I need lip balm. Ever since I was a kid I begun my addiction to Chapstick... I am not sure what it is and any suggestions are welcome to ween me off this addiction but my lips flake and crack if i don't use it. There are facts about this addiction on the world wide web so I am not making it up! However, as far as addictions go it's not a bad one... I know FAR WORSE ones, that I am glad I don't have them... So, lately I have had the pleasure of this 30 dollar spaceship looking clear stick by Dr. Kaplan as my night-stand-stand-by. I have to say it really good, now pretty much anything works for me (I think the petroleum may be bad in the Vaseline products may not be so healthy) and in desperate situations anything from Vaseline to olive oil works. It is kinda like the alcoholic that goes for the mouthwash... so if lip stuff and blackberries and going to megsmakeup.com are my only addictions... i think i am doing well.
It's a big step to spend about 30 bucks on your lips...but think about it... is it worth a try? Are your lips worth it? It's it that much better than that chapstick all natural? it seems like it will last longer but I usually lose them before they run out and Kaplan MD is not as mushy so feels a little better. It also has good "moisture penetration"... i know Meg won't let that term slip by... Is it better than other products that are less? Not sure yet. It is a good product and I think it lasts much longer than others at least at 30 dollars I'll be more careful not to lose it... Note to Dr Kaplan: Can you cure me? I'll go into a 28 day program. Now as a guy I would never take this silver thing outside the house. If Meg was packing it and I was going into the shakes or any withdrawal symptom i would use it...
Ohhh this is bad! :( I'm a lipgloss addict! And lip plumper by I.d. Bare mineral addict too. Yikes! I'm looking at the wrinkle around my lips as I type this, hmmmm. Now if I clean my makeup drawer they want be anything left. :( But it does makes sense and I don't like needles and surgeries. So I guess I will have to run to NM or online for this sound wonderful luxury lip treatment. Thanks for the info Meg!
As I picked up the tube, I was struck by the design and immediately decided that it felt like a cross between a secret, James Bond gadget and a slim cigarette holder. Very elegant, handy to have around and luxurious. I got Dr. Kaplan's Lip 20 in Sheer Berry Shine. If you are looking at the picture that is posted, it's the 4th one from the left. This is a beautiful shade, sheer and deep all at the same time. Feels like your favorite lip balm but looks like your favorite lipstick. I love this color and I think it would flatter almost any complexion, and I never think that about any shade. Sadly, I do have one small complaint, I am not thrilled with the taste. Not horrible, but definitely noticeable. However, it wouldn't stop me from wearing it. In fact, it hasn't stopped me yet. If you are terribly sensitive to that issue, it is something worth considering. Overall, anything that makes my lips look this good and offers protection gets my vote. As far as lip gloss and wrinkles go, you have finally explained why I have the early signs of a smoker's mouth without having been a smoker. I started wearing gloss as a little girl, Bonnie Bell and I go way back. At least now I know I earned my lip wrinkles.......... Hey megken, there have been suggestions that products containing Tea Tree Oil can help to cure chronically chapped lips, check it out on the web. You know I had to bring up TTO right? Since meg hasn't commented on your "moisture penetration", I will. Your very cute monkey's lips look like they need some moisture penetration........
Someone may have to flag stylemama's comments about "moisture penetration" as offensive.... :-) I didn't even notice a taste with the clear one, i wonder if meg did?
Aren't you suppose to be reading scripts and getting your taxes together? I appreciate the support but get your stuff done! How else will you afford $30 Lip Treatment?
ummmm if you read my review... i am also addicted to megsmakeup.com ---- i am off to Staples...
Thanks for posting this! Like megken, I too have a lip balm addiction. If I'm not careful, it is not uncommon for me to see a tube being eaten by one of my 3 dogs', as if it were dog candy. However, since switching over to Fresh Sugar Lip Balm, which is $22, I haven't lost a single on to my dogs. I think that since it's not cheap, I'm much more careful about where I leave them. As much as i love the Fresh lip balm, it's too soft and melt seasily. I'm going to have to check out the KaplanMD lip balms next time I'm at Neimans.
This product, KaplandMD Lip 20 Treatments and all the information provided here in this review by Meg on lips is in a word ‘WOW!’ I already have the lip line wrinkle thing going on to my complete dismay so reading the part about inflate and then shrivel and inflate and shrivel when she spoke about lip plumpers…that’s just WRONG! All those female stars in Hollywood who have been applying those products to their lips for years are going to have lips like the mummified remains you see in museums later in life! I can’t wait to see THAT! LOL! You just know that lip plumpers must abound in moviestarville!!! Well I can tell you, that as soon as I finish writing this article, I’m going to teach every single one of the bastard lip deforming lip plumpers hanging around my house a lesson! That’s right! After today; every one of them will be sorry they ever attempted to shrivel and inflate these lips of mine! Tonight there’s going to be a bonfire in the backyard and those various brands of lip stealing freaks are going someplace where they can’t ever do lip damage again! That’s right ladies…you go home and take all of those mean, goopy, sticks of puffy-lip-producing-glop and eradicate them all! All around the world we will hear women who read Meg’s website singing “We’re not going to take it!” as they dispose of the fat lip causing bad guys and switch over to the lovely Lip 20 Treatments by Kaplan MD! This is going to be a long review because it’s such a great topic! First off…let’s talk about the completely revolutionized silver cylinder of amazement that this product comes in! This silver tube and it’s secret hidden lid at the top is pure delight for any woman who loves her lip products! As corny and old as this saying is…”You had me at the silver lipstick tube!” WOW ladies! Everywhere you go…if you take this out of your purse and twist it open…women are going to be all over you wanting to know everything about it and where they can get it! This is the most streamlined lip product I have ever seen! The product itself is tantalizing and so delightful to put on your lips! I love that it has SPF 20! Perfect – color and protection and healing properties to help with damage already there! Ladies…look into this, research it and then BUY IT!!! I have Sheer Berry - it's a gentle, barely there color that you can wear alone or over and under your favorite lip color! My boyfriend likened the information on the lip plumpers to inflating a red balloon and then seeing how it gets after a few days and then reinflating it and seeing it get all wrinkly again in a few days and to the point you can’t even stand to touch it. Ewwwwwwwwww! Helpful visual don’t’ you think!?
Jeanasina!
I just received this wonderful moisturizing clear lip gloss so I have only tried it a few times. With this being a very very dry winter and even drier spring, this little cutie will be very useful. Thanks for the into to Kaplan MD. I plan to check out the other items in this line.

First of all, A+ for the twist up container where I can't smash the lipstick by capping it and forgetting to roll it down. 2nd of all, I LOVE lipstick/treatment combos because I feel like no matter what product you use--lipstick, lipgloss, lip stain, whatever-- you and up dryied and crackly after a couple hours. So the best of both worlds is always good in my book - and the sheer bit of color with the treatment is amzing as well. I LOVE IT!

Ahem time for me to step away from my stingy lipplumper or Ill probebly end up looking like the lady from theres something about mary, thank god for this stuff gives us some hope.

So basically our lips are getting pregnant, and then getting stretchmarks. What we do for beauty! Give me moist, kissable lips, nice color, sun protection and a great package - leave the kids at home, and have a night on the town. It's worth it on so many levels.
The design of this product is amazing. I like the outside packaging and I like that it filled with a different color.
i really like that it has the inside to condition the lips

well im glad now that my experience with plumpers was quite short lived.
Oh my! As an addict to plumpers, especially Lip Venom, Venom Gloss and the Bare Minerals Buxom, this just makes me ill. I am going to try hard to use up what I have and then try the Lip20 treatments. But, I love the color of Brandi by BM so much. Wish me luck. I never dreamed this is what is going on with the plumpers, but, it does make sense now that I think of it.
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks!
Those lip sticks looks Gorgeous but I think it looks terrible after the first time no?

Thank you for introducing me to this brand. I'm definitely going to check out these. They also don't have any parabens which is a huge plus for me! Thanks for posting about the plumpers to. I don't use them but I've thought about it. I won't now.
Great review , thanks
These look SO good! I want to eat them!
WHAT!! NOOOO why did I have to see this review!I love lip plumpers!!!!!!! I hate tiny lips!!!!!!And IM pettrified of getting wrinkles!!Bad combo. I will try to ween myself off.Luckily im not a HUGE fan of the SHINY.. so I think IM ok there.:( So sad tonight... Thanks for the info on this brand it looks to die for! But 30 bucks is EEeek Especially since I usually leave them in my purse in the car in 90 degree heat and my balms always MELT!!I gotta start getting on top of these things!
Tan is Love
wooo! i love shiny stuff :D by really i would never spend more than 10 dollars on a chapstick type thing... even on a lipstick not more than 20. definitely not, haha. wonderful review though!
Thanks for the review Meg!! I never knew what the side effects of the lip plumpers were. Who would've known it would cause wrinkles??
no wayy! ive never thought bout that. but i think sunscreen in lip balms help right? like my kiehls one has spf 4 lol : )
I first used a lip plumper on accident. I hated it!! It made my lips burn so bad I thought I was going to scream. Since then, I've been careful not to buy anything that says it plumps your lips. I'm a wimp but hey, since it's causing a stinkin' allergic reaction...it makes even more since to stay away from it!!

Im over 48 and I found the Made from Earth "Vitamin Enhanced Face Firming Cream" very potent as a lip moisturizer. It helps diminish the fine lines above my upper lip. After trying many different products eye products also, I started using the Vitamin Enhanced Face Firming serum to take away the puffiness under my eyes, it decreased those fine lines and tightens up that delicate skin around my eyes. For the lips, after I applied the the cream,it instantly lifted and erased surface lines. Highly recommended for a lip moisturizer but also an under eye cream for firming....
liiike the colors.
Oh what a scary thought. I did read that lip gloss caused more cancers but I wasn't sure why. That makes sense. I have yet to find a lip product with sunscreen in it that doesn't irritate my lips though, I'm very sensitive to sunscreen, there's only a few different ones that I can wear on my face. Sounds like I need to quickly find one that I can wear on my lips.
