DIVA CUPS! THE POST THAT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE! SERIOUSLY! IF YOU ARE WOMAN READ ON!!

Sun, 03/08/2009 - 11:20pm
  • Mondays With Meg
  • Miscellaneous

Meg here and I have to BEG you to read this because, quite frankly, it will change your life!

Here is a rundown of my day. I was on my way to the Organic Green and Natural convention in Anaheim to check out some "green" products to get sent to us to review for the site. It's an all day hustle (and I had the flow) process.

I pulled into the parking garage with my trusty sidekick Megken and said "Oh, great! Argh! I forgot to put extra tampons in my purse! I hope they have one of those dumb dispensers I can buy one from or I'm screwed! What is wrong with me! I can't believe I forgot that! Damn!

Being a man, that has never experienced the glory of a brown-red stain on the back of his jeans, Megken was all "Oh, Um, maybe there's something you can get there?"

SURE >

I'm sorry, but when I go out with no back-up I'm on a timer. I bleed. I bleed a lot. To those girls that have said to me "Oh, for three days it's terrible!" I say, "THREE DAYS!!! TOO BE SO LUCKY!

I went to the convention bathroom, I did the thing when you pee and push the arcaic cotton up and prayed "Thirty more minutes...I just need thirty minutes...

Once I secured it into place I did the convention booth walk and then I saw it DIVA CUPS...A MENSTRUAL SOLUTION!

I guess I was practicing "The Secret" because there it appeared. YOU need this!

I walked up to the booth, got the pitch...then begged for one!

It's an organic show. I got the organic pitch. We spend $225 a year on tampons and pads. They end up in landfills. They irritate- these don't (latex-free!) Forty bucks and will last you for years!

I was all Sounds fab! Give me one. I'm about to supply a blood-drive right here, right now

OMG! This is fantastic! It's so hard to explain but so easy to use!

It's basically a cup that collects your period for 12 hours. I can't sleep in a pad-so uncomfortable, I SHOULD NEVER SLEEP IN A TAMPON! Toxic Shock Syndrome-very bad. I end up sleeping on an old towel.

How does this work? I'm going to to do the best descriptive I can here..It looks like a nipple-sort-of. You squeeze the cap down to whatever size your spout will accommodate. Then, once inside, the cup will open to collect your blood.

My review? It's awesome! I hate the diaper, I hate the bloody string! Diva Cups feel invisible and are wonderful! They work!

OK. You can win these. They're $40. You can use them over and over. The average women spends over $225.00 A YEAR ON PADS AND TAMPONS!

We're giving Diva Cups to the best "period piece" out there!

here's my best "Period Piece"!

We had a sleepover, we did our nails. We did face masques and toners.Ollieb wanted to try and so I encouraged her to use tampons.

It went like this " Stop screaming! It doesn't hurt! Why are you crying?"

I knew that night why poor Ollieb cried. After the third time of making her insert the tampon-I realized the problem. Her tampon had been soaking in nail polish remover!

Forget the cotton string! This is where it's at!

Best period horror story wins An Amazing Diva Cup! SO get to typing.

Hi everyone, LDPage here, I was first introduced to the "Diva Cup" on a website called www.mymonthlycycles.com I bought a box, they wwere delivered to my home. I was nervous as I opened the box, or more less nervous about getting this thing in place and then not being able to get it out,I must say it was very easy to inseert and it seemed that it positioned its self over the opening of my cervix, OK...so far so good. I went the entire day with out a single problem and believe me I was going to the ladies room about once and hour just to check....Now comes the problem I had, when it was time to remove the diva cup I was at home and tactifully positioned over the porcelain throne....whoa, what a mess! It look as though I'd been stabbed. It was just a bloddy mess. Now after reading the other post I would consider using it again and for removal I'd do it while showering. I don't think I'd reuse them however. There are two types to buy...one Diva cup is for those that have not had children and the other diva cup is made for those that had birthed a child or two. They are comfortable, on my heaviest day I think I'd still wear a panty liner. I gave the rest of my diva Cups to a girlfriend at work, she likes them, I am still undecided but I wanted to share my experiences with the diva cup. Be sure to check out the web site www.mymonthlycycle.com you can chart you period and PMS symptoms, see when you ovulating. Its helped me keep trach of "Aunt Flow" for the past 5 years....

I have used the Diva Cup now for 4 months and I love it. It took a little getting used to the first month but it has been really easy ever since. Word of advise, don't wash it with soap while out in a restaurant bathroom! I made that mistake , using some antibacterial hand soap at a restaurant and ended up with a slight yeast infection. Just rinse with warm water when emptying it away from home and wash it with no fragrance soap like Dr. Bronner's baby unscented castille soap when at home. And always wash your hands well before emptying it. The Diva cup has been truly freeing! you "almost"forget you have your period, wearing it. I feel so much cleaner using it as well Definitely worth it for me!

It's the seventh grade. I'm on my way to softball practice. My teammate and I plan on walking together but her mom almost doesn't let her leave with me because (sob)......... she thinks.... I'm... a... BOY! And that's just the beginning of seventh grade. Cut to third period pre-algebra. As I pull my mandatory 3-ringed binder from my dorky backpack, a gigantic super-human sized maxi pad attaches itself to the center of my folder! No, in fact, I didn't notice it. Not until I hear the quiet laughter and I am about to set it on my desk. Took 6, maybe 7 seconds, but it felt like time stood still just long enough to allow everyone to see my maxi before I could get the damn thing put away. Tough times. Puberty was filled with character building moments like these. My sense of humor really developed in 7th grade. Good thing too, because that was the ONLY thing that developed that year. Loads of embarrassing flow issues and still NO BOOBS, where was the justice?

I would love to try this. I hate tampons and pads. I get itchy and yes everything Meg said in this post. Here's my embarrassing PMS moment: One night I was at a Party (first year in college) and had been dating my first crush from third grade. The party wasn't far from his Parents house so we decided to crash at his place. Well I went to bed pretty drunk, ok really drunk... and sometime during the night my periods started, Yup I had no clue and when I woke up in the morning the sheets were full of blood. I wanted to cry, i do I hide this.... Anyways thank god he had slept on the couch, so I got up went to the bathroom, roll lots of toilet paper to put in my undies and push the duvet on top of the sheets so he wouldn't see and I had him drove me home as fast as could. I never spoke to him again and I'm sure his Mother was probably not impress with the discovery when she made the bed. So embarrasing, the horror on my face and not to mention the god awfull hang over I had too. So glad those days are over.

I'm one of those people who just can't use Diva cups. I tried, but every time, I got an allergic reaction *sigh*. I'm a rare case, though, who happens to have allergic reactions to the type of silicone they use. In fact, I didn't even know I was having a reaction, until the next month I skipped my period. Tried it again a few months later, same thing. Really annoying, hehe. In any case, while I was using it, these were great. To those that think this is gross, is it really that much worse than a tampon? It might seem that way until you get used to it. In the meantime, I'm sticking to Lunapads.Embarrassing story... Let's see... In junior high, I had erratic periods, and would not always have a pad or tampon on hand to catch it. We had just started swimming in P.E., and I didn't realize I was about to start my period until I was already in my swimsuit, and standing in line to get into the pool. Every girl in my class saw the resulting blood-flow, and to this day I am still scared to swim around my period.

I have a bunch questions about the use of this thing. How do you know when it is "full"? How do you empty it? Where? In the sink, toilet, shower? I can just see myself pulling this thing out of me, hoping not to drip the overflow on the floor. What if you are in public and it needs emptied? There is usually not a sink in the bathroom stall with you. Do you rinse it off/out to use again? Hang to dry? Rinse in the sink many other people are going to use after you? Rinse right in front of everyone? EW!!!! Please describe the after actions that are required. Thank you!!

Megken, I'm not shy about it with my boyfriend, but whenever I try to explain anything "girly" to him, he just gets this blank look on his face and then says "Ok ok! That's enough! I don't want to know more!". Haha. Sometimes I'm just like, "Deal with it dude" and then tell him anyway. It's great to hear a man's point of view on the subject though!

ONLY on Meg's Makeup do we share the ALL gory-glam details of the feminine mystique,LOLROF!I think it's genius and so gla it works for you, pre menopause when I use to gush everytime I stood up,I used the "Instead" cups and rather enjoyed tossing the fruits of my labors into the toilet with pure abandon when it was time to change.LOVE the stories and find it hysterical and all of us have one,how could any woman NOT?I'm not in the running as I no longer have a need to bleed BUT will share a lil'funny with y'all:8 kids in my family,I'm the oldest, many a game of hoops played in our backyard and how were WE to know that it wasn't cool to use Mom's maxi-pads for knee pads, they worked well and were replaceable! We just put that big honkin' box with the cheerful yellow rose on the front out in the garage. She pulled in the driveway and there were not only her 8 or so lil' darlin's but several neighbor kids all sporting Kotex's finest tied around their bony knees playing their hearts out...:)

Two words...Hydro Thermablation. An outpatient procedurethat saved my life. Before it, I was chained to the housewith unpredictible, HEAVY HEAVY HEAVY flows. They were sobad they caused me to become anemic. I used to tear throughboxes and boxes of tampons and MAXI pads. An awful exsistencefor sure! Then my OBGYN suggested this procedure. Now, nolie, I make it on nothing more than a panty shield! I haven'tused a pad or tampon since! It's amazing. Since I am 44 anddone with child bearing it was perfect for me. It's not advised for those with plans of children in their future.

I have been using a Diva Cup for two years and I will NEVER go back. To answer the questions already posted: It doesn't really get "full" unless you have one of those incredibly heavy periods that soaks through an entire roll of paper towels. You simply empty once or twice a day. I admitt here that I have left mine in for an entire 24 hours on the second day of my period with NO problems. The thing is simply too deep to "overflow". You empty it by pinching it to break suction, always in the shower or over a toilet. Since you can leave it in for so long most people never run into the issue of having to empty it in public. I never have! I always empty it and put it back in in the shower. It's just eaiser to clean and put back in. Is it a bti gross? I suppose. But so is stewing in your own juices in a pad (I DESPISE those things) or having a bloody tampon string leaking everywhere. Periods are unpleasant by their very nature and I personally find the Diva Cup for "mature audiences only". If you cannot handle putting things into yourself or seeing yoru own period funk then this isn't for you. The comfort and ease makes this more than wothwhile in my opinion. You simply rinse, boil it every so often to kill any germs on it, dry it with a towel, and you're good to go. There are directions printed to help you learn how to put it in and take it out and I admitt there is a bit of a learning curve. It took me a couple tries to get it to seal well. But it NEVER leaks, wven when I sleep all wild and tossy-turny. The things never overlfows, it doesn't hurt, and it doesn't itch. Tampons caused me screaming hell pain because they dried me up so much. These absorb NOTHING, leaving you at lower chance for infections and pain because your natural lubrication stays put. You can also easily have sex after you take this thing out because you aren't bone-dry (if you're into sexing on your period). These things really are my savior. My horrible story:When I was 14 I started my period at school with nothing to wear! I stuffed some toilet paper in there, but of course it made a mess. I came home to change and my brother's dog drug my bloody underwear out of my hamers and began eating them. My brother was about 11 and thought it was the funniest thing ever. I was mortified and horrified all at the same time. Why so bad? My Mom had company over and the boy I had a crush on was there. Kids at school knew about it the next day. Worst day ever. :(

I already have the Diva Cup so I will spare you the details of my many embarrassing moments. I got mine from drugstore.com and I think it was only about $25-$30 any way, they say you should not use them during intercourse and I have not tried it, but they make something called Instead that is similar to the Diva Cup but disposable and they are safe to use during those times and you never know they are there.

Hi megken here!!! Dear britts, reading your story I thank god that I am a man... just growing the first pube was horrifying enough... but to involve "period funk" with it all would have had little megken curled in a ball crying... I have to say as for the boyfriend that you were too shy to buy it in front of or if you just didn't want to explain it...I must admit when I saw how cool they were in operation I told the Diva ladies that it almost made me wish I had a place to use it. It's cool it's like a gadget. I will admit, that seeing the string coming out in the past, pre diva-cup, was a bit strange, it always reminded me of those dolls where you pull the string and they speak.

I wasn't going to post again but what the heck, I have tons to do and don't feel like doing any of it! I keep remembering a more recent hilarious period story. If you get grossed out easily, stop reading now. My German Shepherd is the coolest dog, full of love, intelligence and just neurotic enough to fit in with my family. The vet actually suggested dog therapy for her neurotic behavior. NO, I didn't take her for that, it just made me love her even more. O.K., so I walk over to Riley to give her a good cuddle and she takes off. So not like her. As I watch her leave the room I notice something hanging from her back region. Once I figured out what it was I thought, whoa, when did Riley start using tampons? Apparently, she had dug one out of the trash, eaten it and was unable to completely "pass" the totally disgusting used tampon. By the time I was able to get her to calm down so I could remove the darn thing I was left thinking, "when did my life turn in this direction?" Tampon removal from my dogs rear-end, that's original. She was obviously fine but I swear I have to totally bury these things in a tall trash can or she finds them EVERY time. It is pretty gross. In fact, my husband thinks we should use them as training treats so she will learn new tricks. My daughters (age 9 and 6) even made up a special song for her. Think one little, two little, three little Indians..... Now sing, one little, two little, three little tampons.......... Yep, just another ordinary day in my life....... Pretty funny if you ask me.

I've been reading a lot about the Diva Cup and have been trying to work up the courage to get one. I came *this* close once when I saw it in a grocery store, but I was with my boyfriend and didn't really feel like explaining what the heck I was buying. Growing up, I always had really heavy periods -multiple super-duper-extra absorbent tampons a day and extra long, boat size, winged pads. Luckily, when I started birth control the periods became lighter ...until I tried Yaz. Now it's almost non-existent ... but not non-existent enough to not have to wear anything. Only now I can't wear tampons because they're uncomfortable, and I gave up on pads a loooooong time ago. I'm thinking the Diva Cup might be my best bet. Maybe I'll win one! (Oh, and I just stopped taking Yaz ... so it'll be interesting to see what happens next time Aunt Flo visits)As for my "period piece" ... I can't narrow it down to only one, so here are a few. Hopefully someone will get some kind of enjoyment from my pain :) Please keep in mind that I'm not a freak, I was just a weird, neurotic kid.*I started my period in the 4th grade (I had just turned 10). I knew what was going on because we just had an puberty program thing at school, but was REALLY embarrassed about it. I decided to not tell my mom because I figured she'd tell everyone she knew, so I kept it secret for like a year. So, since my mom didn't know about it, I didn't have anyone to buy my supplies .... so I just used whatever I could find in the medicine cabinet. One day I found a stray tampon -sans instructions- and decided that I was smart enough to figure it out. I saw commercials on tv so I knew the general idea. So I inserted the tampon ... the entire thing ,,, applicator and all ... with the plunger not "plunged". After like an hour of extreme uncomfortableness, I finally took it out. I just couldn't understand why it wasn't "so comfortable you can barely feel it" like the commercials said. *In the summer after 4th grade I had to come up w/ a plan for swimming. I swam everyday and didn't want anyone to figure out that I wasn't swimming because of my period. Obviously I didn't want to use tampons (see above comment), so I came up with an idea that involved Kleenex and scotch tape. Needless to say, that wasn't a pleasant experience either. *In 7th grade, my pad bunched up and I bleed through my jeans and onto my seat in English class. I didn't realize what happened until I went to get up from my chair, I was in the 1st row, so I just tried to nonchalantly sit on one leg while slowly trying to wipe up the mess while everyone else left. I thought I did a good job, tied my sweatshirt around my waist, and made a beeline for my locker and the bathroom. I thought I was in the clear until my English teacher pulled me out of my next class and asked me "Did they tell you?" - making sure I knew about menstruation! After I assured her I was in the loop & went back to class, of course EVERYONE wanted to know why I was called out of class. I wanted to die! That was a really long day. Oh Geez, I can't believe I just shared those! I honestly don't think I've ever told anyone ... so that just shows how special you girls are!

Another DivaCup convert here! I've been using it for about 6 months and love it. My flow is super super heavy, so I do run into "overflow" issues, but I wear a liner with it and go empty it when I feel a leak, just like with a tampon. At least with the DivaCup it's only once a day. :)I don't need one, but since you've all been so nice to share your horror stories...my mom was pretty opposed to the idea of young ladies using tampons, but one summer when I was about 14, it became apparent that my next period would happen while we were on our family vacation to PTL. (Yes, the Jim & Tammy Faye Paradise on Earth.) Mom didn't like the idea of having to supervise me in the room while everyone else was in the pool/waterpark, so she relented and got a box of the skinny Tampax with the cardboard applicators. We tried it the prior month for a couple of times with no problems. I felt very grown up! As it turned out, the trip ended up being at the very end of my period and my flow was pretty light. On the second day, everyone got into their swimsuits to go to the waterpark. I waited until last to use the bathroom, and didn't come out for about an hour. I had managed to get the tampon in but was so dry that it was excruciating and I had crushed the applicator so it couldn't be pushed in. I couldn't get it out either. My poor mom finally talked me into letting her in and she took it out for me. I kept saying that I was going to go find someone to take my virginity so I wouldn't have this problem any more (not knowing that the average penis was much, much larger than that teeny little tampon!). Mom also went to the store and got me some Playtex plastic applicator ones. Hooray!

Well. I haven't had my "moon cycle" for a while now. My first experience with tampons was horrifying. I never had light days and girly periods that belong on a kotex mom and daughter bonding commercial, oh no no no, did U ever see "The Shining" well, I think I have made my point. Tampons wouldn't do the job for me. I don't have a need for this product, I have Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome, but it seems like a good idea. I will email the Diva Cup information to my girls. I am sure they'll want to try.

I don’t have a ‘best’ diva period story but I can say I have one comment that wasn’t spoken of on this giant ode to menstrual cycles! When I was in grade school I didn’t know much about anything because as I have mentioned, I had a less than healthy mother. The only thing she ever did concerning becoming a woman was to say “Here! Read these filthy books!” as she handed me some beginners books about what to do when you get your period. During that time there was a girl in my grade school who was a bombshell (yes, she was without question on her way to growing to be an adult porn star I’m sure.) Anyway..the girl was the most popular girl in school with the little boys there and so I wanted to be like her. I was shy and had a reputation for fainting whenever we had to get shots in school so I was in a word, a dud. One day I went with her to some boy’s house where there were several boys and girls there and she took me back into a bedroom and opened a drawer of a dresser and showed me something (no idea what it was) but she told me that what she was about to tell me was a secret. She then proceeded to explain to me that boys have periods too only their blood comes out BLUE! I BELIEVED HER! Needless to say whenever I brought that topic up to anybody I was a laughing stock. :( Sigh. When I finally did get my first period in grade school, I had to go to my dad and ask him to take me to the store and he said “Bring your books so you know what to buy.” He was a good dad for taking me. I am happy to say I no longer need cups, tampons, napkins, or emergency provisions for this delicate monthly ritual and I am elated about it although, when I first was going through menopause and had horrible hot flashes, I WISHED for periods again as I could deal with that a lot better than the flashes of blazing heat that completely soak your body and make you pretty much insane on a daily basis! I’d tell you to enjoy your periods but of course I know you’d probably use some distasteful verbiage on me...but just know...I think periods are so much easier than menopause!

First Post - Wow! You got me to talk. I have been a lurker for a long time and love the reviews. I feel like I know most of you so now maybe in a funny way you can get to know me.Period Horor Story - I have many. My first period came when I was in the 6th grade. It was in the middle of the night and I woke up to the scary sight of blood soaked underwear. I hid the underwear behind the toilet because Mom would find them in the hamper and snuck to Mom's bathroom to grab a pad. I went to school and was called to the Principal's office a couple hours later. Mom and Dad were waiting and took me home. Mom found the underwear and was afraid I went to school without knowing what to do. Mom then took me to the bathroom and to my horror showed me how to use a feminine belt and pad! I was not allowed to wear Tampons. Next it was Junior High School and I was on the Cross Country Team. I had to run a 3 mile race in a belt and pad (again not allowed to wear tampons and was to embarrased to ask another girl). I completed the race and afterwards had the horrible realization that my period was now on my shorts and legs from running.Well I got to typing and it wasn't that bad - - blushes.

vagabond: I actually figured it out because of makeup, strangely enough. I started using primers, and had reactions to them. I asked my mother about it, and she told be about how a lot of people in my family are allergic to different forms of silicone. I just put two and two together (plus, it was only after using the cups that I would miss my period). I need to look into that "Instead."

I love my Diva cup. I've herd that it takes some people a few cycles to learn how to use it, but I didn't have this problem. For me it was easier to learn to use than a tampon ( of course, that's probably because I know a lot more about my anatomy now than I did back then). I recommend it to everyone - it's great not having to worry about packing pads and tampons, and it's even greater not having to buy them.

Maj must be lucky because not everyone can get away with 10 tampons for an entireperiod. I go through about 10 a day for the first 5 days and then 5 or 6 in the nextthree days. Count your blessing Maj but others suffer far heavier than you do. Imust admit I was gifted this odd little "cup" and was hesitant to use it. However Idecided to try it one time as it was a very, very, very special anniversary for meand my husband and I knew we would want to be intimate. Let me just say that I NEVERhave sex during my period because it just FREAKS me out. I simply can't and WON'Tdo it. Since this was a very rare occasion I decided to try the Diva Cup for a day.It wasn't any harder to insert than a tampon and I didn't even feel it there all day.Like satil said it can be worn for a long time because unlike a pad (GROSS...thatthing sitting hot between your legs collecting a smelly substance...that's the TRUEdisgusting thing) your period simply deposits itself in the cup and it stays there. You pinch and remove and turn it upside down emptying the contents into the toilet.I am VERY heavy in my periods and was able to wear this for 12 hours with NO smell,NO wet tampon string, NO stain to my pretty anniversary panties, and NO interferancewith romance time. He never even knew I WAS on my girlie time. I know this seemsforeign to some but that's what people thought about tampons 50 years ago too. Mygrandmother thought you were a pervert if you used tampons because you had to touch yourself. Diva Cups are progress and shouldn't be judged too harshly. If you thinkyou can't you are 100% entitled to your opinion but if you feel you can give them a trythey are worth it. I've never had even ONE accident since I've used them this last year and don't have to think about my period ALL day long. I insert thefirst morning one while I'm washing in the shower so I'm completely clean and then I don't have to worry about it again until bedtime. I have two so at night I switch out to the clean one and wash the other one up in the sink with mild soap and water.Obviously Meg I don't need one for the contest but I'm sharing my story anyway...In Jr. High I was cursed with TWO WEEK long periods and a super heavy flow. It washell. I was a cheerleader for a small school and our away games could be up to 4 hourson a bus with NO stops to change feminine products. Sitting on a bus with a bunch ofteachers, coaches, and teenage basketball players there was NO way I was going to askthe WHOLE bus to pull over so I could change a tampon. I changed right before we goton board and prayed all the way that it would make it. It didn't. Coat wrapped aroundmy waist one of the other girls moms rushed me into the ladies locker room. Standingwith a coat wrapped around my waist I stood in the room while she washed out my pantiesAND my bloomers in the sink and dried them under the hand dryer. This process FELT likeit took about 2 hours as girls from the home team came in and out and sneered at me forstanding around in half a cheerleading uniform and a snow jacket. Utterly humiliatingand my panties and bloomers never really got 100% dry so I had to cheer for 4 games withsomewhat wet panties. I'll never forget it.

Love, hugs and shoes...Angie

My dear Jeanasina, I must agree with you, periods are easier than this here menopause,  oh the hot flashes, the insanity, the sleeplessness, all those wonderful things that go along with it, I could do without!!  I must admit, being on hormones does ease the symptoms a bit, but not entirely!!  Ah..dreaming of horrible cramps, and heavy flows!  Does seem a bit insane!

This might be a little personal... but since you said you were able to use this during "special" time with your husband... did you just keep it in?  My boyfriend is taking me on a special Valentine's weekend trip  and I'm supposed to have my period that weekend so I am trying to think of a way around it.  Thanks for your input!

When these came out the first time (way back in the 70's i think) I LOVED THEM and used them all the time. But as just as Elaine did when they stopped manufacturing "the sponge", I bought up all I could find when they stopped making the cup. It was claimed the "cup" is what started the toxic shock phenom. So we didn't have the "cup" for years and years. I'm way past the age where I need them now, but thank goodness cooler heads have prevailed and the "cup" is back. Never re-use them and change frequently. They are pretty great.

A BIG "Thank You" to Meg and Diva Cups for solving my menstral issues. Due to the size of my vagina, I have spent the last 15 years leaking all over town. No pad or tampon has been able to capture the flow of my period quite like DIVA CUPS. How come no one thought of this earlier? All I know is, I owe a world of thanks to Meg for showing me the way to a leaky period free day. I was about to have a hysterectomy because my period was so bad. Thank God my mother talked me out of it and thank God for you Meg, for you are a lifesaver. I will be forever in your debt!Love and kisses,Diexa

I have a great sotry. Let me start by telling how i heard abotu the diva cup. I was reading a girly mag and saw it, I was at work so i had my fiance (who was in Iraq) google it. He did and gave me the scoop. After i recieved the text, I thought no further of it. A few days later he told me his boss was using the computer and asked if he needed some personal time. Puzzlde, my fiance asked why, his boss answered by telling him he had left the page up and he though he could use some time off if he was on the rag. hahaha. The horror part of the story: Since the age or 13 I have had cramps so badly that I have had to skip class and get perscription pain pills. When i was 16 I told my mother i needed something more, more help. I went to my doctor and he perscribed me general birth control pills. After being one them about a year, and forgetting about the pain I started passing out more frequetly (I had passed out before). I contacted my biological mother and she told me to go in for a heart exam. Her family history had some heart conditions that have the same symptoms. I immediately got off the pill and saw my doctor once again. Yes, he said I did have the heart condition my mother had described and the BC had been affecting the heart and blood system in my body. I later tried the ring, hoping it would work for my cramping and pain, it did, and still does...but having it in creates tendernedd...so when pulling a tompon out and using a new one it gets more tender. I asked abotu the diva cup, and I would like to try it. Not only to be more green, but to not have the irriatition. :) Plus, pads are unsightly, and sometimes tampons are not an option.

I've never used the DivaCup, but there is a disposable version called "Instead", which I use quite a lot.  I guess the only difference, from reading about the Diva, is that it's a throw away version. The only drawback is that if you're VERY heavy on certain days (Uncle Gusher came into town right after Aunt Flo), then they fill up a little too quickly and you might not make it to the bathroom soon enough.  This happened to me a couple of times, which kind of turned me off to the cup theory for the first few days of period...then again, I'm REALLY heavy..

I so love the Diva Cup.  I hated everything else. And the super absorbant pads and tampons, while, on one had great cause they absorb, also dried me out too much. I plan on starting my daughter on one as soon as she has her period - well maybe a few months or so after.  I alway wish I had found it way sooner.  And reusable/washable pads.  And I thought toxic shock came about due to uber absorbant tampons, specificially Rely (anyone remember those?)  I didn't know they were relatdt to the cup.

Wow, that's all really cool. I've read about the Diva Cup, but I've never really heard from people who've used it. From all of these really positive stories, I guess I have to give it try.

oh no.  Im very open minded and will try pretty much anything, but this is gross.  I dont mind tampons at all!  I can not use pads- they're like diapers.  I never have any issues with tampons its all I use.  I guess mine is not as heavy.  Sorry Im gonna have to pass on this one.

When my friend started using a Dive last year I though "ew", but after getting fed up with tampons that leak and pads that move I gave in and got a Diva.  I am so glad I did!  I do get occasional leakage but nothing a mere liner can't handle.  I also feel better since I live on an island and was able to greatly reduce my waste from that time of the month.I used to think this was a gross idea, but it is just your own body.  I have gotten to "know" myself over the last couple of months because no matter what I do the cup gets pulled up pretty high.  I got over it quickly.  This is so much more convenient, you don't have to worry about it for 12 hours.  Before a heavy tampon was leaking on me in two to three hours.

WHen it comes to my period, ive endured many blood stained pants moments...it seems i cant find the exact absorbency i need, either its too little or too much, and im really iffy about increasing tampon sizes cause of TSF, so this diva cup seems like it would be my bestfriend.& heres my story, though it is actually BEFORE i started my period (around gr 8)One day, just outta nowhere...i had woken up to some seveeere abdominal pains, to the point where i couldnt stop crying, couldnt walk without being in so much pain.. i had told my mom about it and she gave me some tylenol and still made me go to school ( lol, bad choice mom). I ended up leaving school 2 hrs later, crying in pain. This occured the next day, so my mom brought me to the doctors that week..from that day onward i was put through 4 different examinations just to figure out the problem (2 physicals, which was really embarassing considering that was my very 1st time to the gyno and my mom was in the room, an xray and an mri). This pain had lasted an entire 2 weeks, though testing carried on after.....only to find out, nothing was the matter and that the pain was most likely due to the fact that i would be recieving my period soon. And to my surprise, i got my 1st period 2 months later. Since then i havent experienced that type of pain again (and seriously hope not to), but that is definitely one experience i will never forgot

Wow, Diva Cups sounds amazing! I too, as many girls stated HATE pads and tampons. The bulkiness of the pads makes me way self conscious, like everyone is looking at my butt and sees a big huge bulge. It's terrible! As for tampons, they go way too quick and can get someone expensive, especially on a heavy period. Diva Cups are definately something I HAVE to try. Thanks for sharing this product!

So here I am in 6th grade. I had no clue about anything girly, anything period-wise; tampons and pads? WHAT!?I wore my favorite khaki colored overalls with a windbreaker jacket. I noticed I felt wet and so I went to the bathroom. Why am I bleeding? What do I do? Who do I tell? Maybe I'll just keep it a secret and no one will find out.Lunchtime rolled around and me and my friends are playing on the monkey bars and swings. I turned to look at my butt and noticed a small red dot on my favorite overalls. I was mortified! I kept pulling my windbreaker over my butt to conceal this blood I had on me for who knows how long!Chorus time... I keep playing with my jacket to make sure my behind is covered, but I know, I just KNOW that the kids behind me see this girl with a blood stain on her pants... The boy I liked sat behind me and I could have died right then and there.I go home that day, rip off my overalls and change my pants. I crawled up on the couch, watching tv.My mom comes down and starts talking to me about periods and had my sister run out to get me my first pack of tampons and pads. I cried.... I thought I was the only one this was happening to and I just didn't understand. As time went on, I just dealt with it. But getting your period plain old stinks.

Ok so these sound really wierd and interesting at the same time.  I like the idea of spending less money and less waste from not having to throw away tapons however it still seems like a wierd concept.  Maybe I have to just give it a try...

these look so scary!! especially because they are so big, it seems painful.  and a pain to change as well.  im fine with regular pads and tampons, so i guess ill stick with those.my embarrassing story is that i once wore a tshirt to bed and the back of it got a small stain on it.  it wasnt a big deal, and i just washed it and put it back to wear to bed again.  one day i accidentally pulled out the same tshirt and put it on to go to a (guy) friends house and when i got there, they noticed the stain and were like what's that?  i said i must have sat in ketchup D:
