RACHEL PERRY LIP BALM!
Sweetassgal here! I will never cease to be amazed by how our minds can reach way back to memories decades ago, bringing back familiar sights, scents, tastes and even emotions that once comforted us in moments that may have seemed insignificant at the time...but manage to bring a smile to our face at the mere flicker of their memory. Walking through my local health food store recently I was struck by just such a memory. Browsing through the health and beauty section my eye caught the sight of a little round pot of Lip Lovers lip balm by Rachel Perry.
I immediately picked it up and was transported back to one of my favorite places when I was a child. My mother had a friend named Chris who to me was a cross between Farah Fawcett and a circa 1976 Stevie Nicks. She had beautiful feathered blonde haired, dressed uber hippie chic and almost always carried something that was either hand tooled leather or beaded and crocheted. I used to love going to her house. She was always burning incense (not the stinky kind), had cool beaded curtains, "vintage" furniture before it was cool and most importantly of all...she had one of those old fashioned french lady advertisements displayed on a giant round tin plate hanging in her living room. It was all so lovely and the memory was staring right up at me when I looked at the top of the Rachel Perry balm. Pictured on top is a darling profile picture of a very vintage looking lady wearing a smart hat with brightly tied pin and scarf. It looked just like one of the ladies on Chris' wall hanging. I was instantly transported and could all but smell the scent of musk oil in the air.
I decided to take my memory along with me and purchased a $3 pot of the Very Vanilla Lip Lover in SPF 15. Its a very soothing and sweet flavor perfect for sipping hot cocoa through on a cold winter evening. Who doesn't like a lip balm that tastes great and protects your lips! Deep down...don't we all remember our very first tube of Bonnie Bell lip smacker? I know I do and I rocked it like the glam goddess in training I knew I was! I tend to like a little tingle in my lip balm so I'll probably pick up the mint too but since my hubby always complains when I kiss him with electric charged lips I think I'll reserve the Vanilla for our smooch fests. Rachel Perry lip balms and many other products can be found in Health Food stores and in abundance online. If Vanilla and Mint aren't your go to flavors they also have Raspberry, Cantaloupe, and Chocolate...YUM! Dab a bit on, grab your best vintage fringed handbag, spritz your feathered hair with a little Aqua Net and try not to break your ankle in your wooden platform wedges. Now THAT'S 70's baby...far out and GLAM ON!!!!

My WHole Foods doesn't have Rachel Perry. Or market salad. Or those amazing spinach/cheese scones that you can get in the Chicago area. Since when is Chicago the sole propietor of spinach? And how about garbage salad from Rosebud? But I digress. My Whole Foods doesn't have Rachel Perry. Heads will roll. After I get my lips nice and soft. Where else can I find it? Drugstore.com?
Oh, you took me right back in time! I'm in the bedroom I shared with my older sister as a girl, and she is applying Bonnie Bell in the "Dr. Pepper" version. She entered a contest and won a plethora of makeup from Yardley, which she kept long, long after it was probably safe, but I can still smell "Astral Wine" lip gloss (a scent to die for!). Oh, and then there was a delectable one from Cover Girl and a funky vanilla-like balm from an eclectic shop in the complex around the University of Pittsburgh. When she and my mom started to purchase me my own products, I felt so very "grown up." Thanks for the memories and the suggestion, as always. Your pieces are as delicious as this sounds! This is a price I can justify to myself!
i do not like this stuff at all.
sweet mother of chocolate i had totally forgotten rachel perry lip balm! the pictures you've conjured and the smells i'm remembering have me grabbing my keys and heading to my nearest whole foods wannabe posthaste! i was partial to cantaloupe as i'm a rebel without a clue and loved being different. however - i may have to pick them all up. thanks for the memories and for todays way to stimulate the economy!!! meg's rocks and meg girls are the bomb!!!
Perfect timing for dry winter lips! I've tried the Very Vanilla now I can't wait to try the Cantaloupe. I am a WholeFoods fanatic so I'm sure I'll be there tomorrow buying some. The face scrub sounds really nice, I'll have to check that out too. Thanks for the info:)
Never tried the lip balm, but I have tried the facial scrub...I think it was a peach and papaya one maybe? Anyway, it was amazing, and I'm waiting for my drugstore brand one to run out so I can justify going back to it. Yay.
I was tempted to try the scrub but I just got an organic one to try out and Ihave to give everything a shot first. I'll have to keep that on the radar. Thanks makeupluv!
Love, hugs and shoes...Angie

I have the chocolate one I got when I was sooo little :)It smells okay, tastes great, and looks... off. It gives my lips a brownish tinge. It doesn't matter because I lick it of as soon as I put it on anyway, but that's a drawback to these. :)
I remember this exact product from circa 1986! I can clearly imagine the smell and feel of it right now. I haven't noticed Rachel Perry in stores lately but I should look for it. It was certainly one of the first natural brands I was aware of and their products were excellent.
Oh my god, i LOVE the packaging! I'm such a sucker for lovely packaging. And some of the flavours/scents sound just edible!
Great packaging! Nice article!
