YEAR IN REVIEW!

Mon, 12/29/2008 - 6:10pm
  • Green Chi Tuesdays
  • Miscellaneous

Sweetassgal here! to bring you the best of all things natural and organic by way of Green Chi Tuesdays!

'Tis the Season for lists I guess as I had been planning on doing a year end recap of reviews as well. Often times we review but never get back to finding out what worked long term and what didn't...or if we had a change of heart about the product. The following represent my most passionate re-reviews for 2008. So check them out, find out where they really landed on the beauty radar, and have a GLAM filled New Years everyone!

Juara Rice Facial Cleanser - This is still top dog with me. The amazing scent, the softness of my skin, the reduction in breakouts...all around a winner along with everything from their line including the Red Sandalwood Face Mask for spot reduction overnight. Hands down my favorite discovery of 2008.

Desert Essence Tea Tree Oil Touch Stick - Works amazingly well and never lets me down. It works so well I find myself giving my little bottle away every time someone complains about break outs just so I can share the love!

Burt's Bees Royal Jelly Eye Cream - Hasn't let me down yet and is a wonderful find for those who want moisturizing around the eyes that isn't greasy and helps reduce under eye puffiness. LOVE IT for the mornings when a good nights sleep didn't exactly leave me looking "bright eyed" and fresh.

Alba Botanical Balms and Glosses - Love them in every flavor. I lean towards the balms since glosses leave me fast but I love the flavor, the protection, and the price tag!

Suki Sensitive Cleansing Organic Lemongrass and Shea Butter Bar - Even my husband raves about this. The scent, the moisturizing lather...its all perfection. A little expensive for us right now but a splurge that's worth it.

Physicians Formula Organic Wear 100% Pressed Powder - I was right about this powder. Its a great, light every day powder but the compact didn't last the life of its contents. The lid ripped off about half way through and kept falling into my makeup bag. The light magnet in the top was the only thing that kept me from losing the lid completely.

Liz Earle Hand Repair - I could never get passed the strong scents associated with this so I lovingly gifted it to my BFF Adele. She thought I was nuts and that there was nothing wrong with the scent at all. Just goes to show how different everyone's tastes are. She likes the Liz Earle line and gave the gift a thumbs up. Just not for me though.

Moom Organic Natural Hair Removal Kit. - This worked REALLY well...but was REALLY painful. However, smooth legs for weeks were a huge plus. Only drawback. I personally can't reach every inch of my legs to get all over smooth so you really need a friend (or in my case my now leg hair traumatized daughter) to help you remove the hair. It has to be about 1/4 inch long before waxing so it had better be someone you can trust to see you with that kind of hair on your gams.

L'Oreal Bare Naturale Mascara - Like all mascaras this worked MUCH better about a week or so after opening. Something about new mascaras just doesn't coat as well. But a coat or two really helped to get the volume I was expecting that I didn't see at first, though the definition was always spectacular. So for a paraben free mascara I was happy. Still...one HUGE thumbs down for L'Oreal not working harder to either STOP testing on animals or prove once and for all that they have ceased this barbaric practice. It's not worth it...even for luscious lashes.

Happy New Years to all and welcome 2009! Bring on the new products and reviews! GLAM ON!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sweetassgirl, you do a great job on bringing us the good, the bad and the ugly. Thanks for your upfront honesty. I love Suki, Burts Bees, and the Alba balm. Obviously, I need to try the Rice cleanser - sounds like it's a winner. And Gigi - you never fail to crack me up. At the end of a very tough year, you've still got your wonderful sense of humor. Love ya!! Carole

Thank you for reminding me to visit Suki's web site again -- I knew there was something missing from my life -- the Exfoliate Foaming Cleanser (FORMERLY exfoliating lemongrass cleanser.) How did I live without it these past bleak five months, and why did I not reorder? Thanks to you, dear sweetassgal, I will start the new year off right.

That was a great, candid review with amazing choices! I'm familiar with and truly enjoy most of them but haven't tried the others (my favorites are the Suki soap, Burt's Bees Royal Jelly cream, and Rice Cleanser, and just about anythingwith Tea Tree Oil anything brings me to my knees!). It has amazing properties and is the consummate multi-tasking ingredient! Physicians Formula rarely if ever disappoints and it's price-friendly. As for hair removal, my husband and I continue to laugh about this. I used hair remover on my wedding day as I bathed and then decided to shave my legs afterward and polish with a loofah. (I was a moronic bride-to-be trying to tend to every detail). It was overkill. No, it was worse because I was over-zealous. I wound up with a huge, repugnant rashand scraped skin on my arms and legs. The church was hot and had no A/C, so I didn't plan to wear sheer gloves to my elbows, but I had bought them and had no choice. When I walked down the aisle and saw my wonderful husband, he said, "You look so gorgeous I can cry. You're Cinderella. You're better than Cindy Crawford." Then he looked at my arms and asked, "Do you have leprosy?" It was so disgusting that he was serious. Talk about humiliation . . .

There's an upshot to that story. We had our honeymoon in DisneyWorld and were able to get on any ride or the tram easily. People walked away in horror when they saw it and let us go ahead of them.

hmm I've been looking for an eye gel.  I'm going to have to try out the Burt's Bees one.  Royal jelly is amazingly good for you and I love Burt's Bees.
