GARNIER NUTRITIONISTE SKIN RENEW ANTI-PUFF EYE ROLLER! DRUGSTORE DEAL THURSDAYS!
Gigi here! here, with a "Drugstore Deal Dilemma . . ."
The holidays are quickly approaching--time to prep your skin before we explore dramatic cheap chic color and more! It's the best time of the year for a "quick fix" if you stay out longer than normal at parties or spend too much time shopping. I am OCD about keeping my eyes fit, young-looking, and wrinkle-free. John Mayer's line from one of his songs--"Gravity, stay the hell away from me"--best describes my beauty philosophy. I expected Garnier Nutritioniste Skin Renew Anti-Puff Eye Roller to live up to all of its claims when I needed it most ($13.00).
Meg advises us to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. When I received a copy of in my mailbox Redbook today, I had a feeling that it would list this item as one of "2008's Beauty's Top Forty" advertised on the cover. It does! Deep breath, Gigi, and tell your own experience.
My sister came upon it the week before our wonderful mother passed away in October, and the skin under our eyes was already distended due to continual tears. I am on an unpaid leave from my teaching position for multiple eye problems, and the shady areas under my eyes made me a perfect candidate to evaluate it. This sheer serum promises to reduce puffiness and minimize dark circles. Heavy crèmes and certain lipids in eye products trap fluid under the delicate skin in this area, causing eyes to appear bloated. Garnier is lightweight, with caffeine and Pro-Vitamin B5 as its chief ingredients for a sheer, oil-free, generally hypoallergenic experience. Caffeine is not as powerful as advertised. It has shown promise as an ingredient to repair cellulite but does little for imparting brightness (if it worked as touted on cellulite, I would be soaking in a tub of coffee now rather than typing!) It has glycerin, but this is a dual-edged sword. It is a humectant but, because of its ability to attract water from the environment and the lower layers of skin, can exacerbate issues and harm rather than heal.
The applicator is brilliant--simply roll the metal ball under eyes and love the immediate cooling, comforting effect (for a real treat, store it in your fridge). It disappears into skin and dries quickly. There is little risk of inflammation; itching eyes are soothed. Aside from the revitalizing sensation, my puffiness was relieved minimally at best. When it came to helping dark circles, I saw no change--as in nada, zip, zilch. There is an honest notation on Garnier's label which states that this works only on skin's outer layer (applause, applause for them). Translation? It feels wonderful, but do not expect miracles with this. If you're looking for longer-term results, other crèmes will do a great deal more. Kindly feel free to contact me for both penny-pinching and pricey ideas (pretty please, with Splenda on top!).
Suggestion: I tend to love all things Neutrogena since using their anti-acne soap and hand crème in high school. Try their "Three-in-One" Concealer (about $9.99). Dark circles are removed instantly, and the anti-inflammatory properties of aloe vera and green tea work on bags. It contains silicone and derivatives. These serve as gentle emollients, imparting the feel of silk. Sun protection of 20 is included; even during the winter, skin must be guarded from harsh cold and drying heat.
Okay--I did the research. There will be a quiz on this next week . . .
Did this Garnier work for you or are you in the same ship as me?

I agree with Gigi. I have been using the skin renew anti-puff eye roller for several months and am happy that is does no harm to my very sensitive eyes (most eye creams and serums sting and leave the skin on eyelids and below my eyes red and burned). However, I am sad to say the anti-puff roller also does no good. My puffiness and dark circles are unchanged. I like the roller and continue to use it each morning with the thought that doing something is better than doing nothing, but I won't buy more when it is gone.
Love the concept & applicator of this product; HOWEVER, results are non-existent in my case. I suffer from puffy eyes & undereye bags, but no dark circles or wrinkles. Although the cool feeling upon application is nice, there is no visible improvement to my look. Generally awakening from a supine position & sitting upright eventually resolves my puffiness issues, but nothing yet has been found to diminish those undereye bags that have prevailed for the last 90+ days. I fear some sort of surgery may be the only way to remove the bags in my case. Due to chronic sinus issues that commonly crop up for me this time of year, I do think there could be a medical cause for the swelling/puffiness & apparently resultant bags. I am hoping there is another product I will find that gives me true relief, but unfortunately GN Skin Renew/Anti-Puff eye roller is not the one 4 me.
I actually have the opposite opinion. I LOVE this. I am normally a Philosophy Girl, but, something on the commercial for this caught my eye and on my next trip to CVS I picked one up. Plus it was on sale and I got a free pack of the facial cleansing cloths. As to the Eye Roller - I really do like it. I normally have been using this am and still using Hope in a Tube by Philosophy at night. I think this has made a bigger difference for me than the Dark Shadows by Philosophy that I had been using days. I normally don't wear foundation on a daily basis, and, find that I can use the Eye Roller mid afternoon for a pick me up. And I really do love how this feels going on! As to puffiness, I would say this has worked quite well, as to dark circles - maybe mine aren't that dark, it is heredity - my sister's are far worse, but I am majorily paranoid about mine getting worse - and I would rate this high on the dark circle issue. I know if I use nothing I have more prominent dark circles. This works as well as anything at reducing the appearance of them.
this was a VERY educational and informative post... well done. I myselfhave found that a little sheabutter balm (i have some organic stuff i got atthe healthfood store) has been SO good at helping me w/my sleep deprivation(baby wakes up usually once a night & i'm back in a band rehearsing once a week so i'm up later than usual). it seems to calm the puffy & helpsto moisturize... i also prefer caffeine inside my body not so much on the outside ;)
I read an ad on this product and was very curious about what people were saying about it. Because the cause of dark under eye circles is multi-faceted, this product may or may not help you. If your dark circles are caused by shadowing due to puffiness, I bet this product would work well. If you have pigmented dark circles, probably not. Caffeine definitely will decrease puffiness and this sounds like a great drug store deal, many, many thanks!!! A little self promotion (sorry), but I wrote up a post recently about the cause and solutions for tired, puffy eyes: http://www.mythbusterbeauty.com/2008/10/28/solutions-for-eyes-puffiness-.... This post backs up my feelings on the subject. Here's to beautiful eyes!
This felt slightly refreshing and cooling. But it didn't make a huge difference. I also don't have a dramatic under eye problem. At this point it is a somewhat minor issue that bothers during times of stress and lack of sleep. Not worth the money in my opinion.
If there was a rating for less then 1 this product would get it. It did absolutly NOTHING for me!! I spent about $14 for NOTHING!! I tried to give it the benefit of the doubt, using it AM & PM until the whole container was empty. All it did was leave my eye area feeling sticky after application. It never seemed to absorb in. The only good thing about this is the applicator, which does massage and cool. But the serum itself to me is worthless.

This was such a neat looking container. I saw a lot of hype about this product, and its sad that the results didn't do you justice.
It does have immediate effects but no long-term ones.
I tried this and I really wasn't impressed. It felt really great whenever I put it on, but I don't think I had any benefits from using it other than the fact that it felt good. I didn't see a reduction in puffiness, dark circles, lines or anything. I was pretty disappointed by this.
I actually kinda hate all garnier products. They just don't work at all for me. :(I'm interested in trying that concealer you mentioned though! :P
I had pretty much the same experience you did. My horrible allergies make my eyes so puffy, no matter what I do, and no matter how much sleep I get, I always have dark circles. I know they're hereditary, but I should be able to minimize them somewhat. So I bought this, after hearing such great things about it everywhere, and after storing it in the fridge, I started using it several times a day. It feels really good and cooling, but the results have been pretty non-existent. I still like Garnier hair products, but so far their skincare line has not lived up to it's hype.
I agree. It feels good to roll on but doesnt really do anything. I agree with makeupper garnier products never really work, I dont even know why I got this
nothing works for my undereye circles.. they are pretty darn dark! this sounds like a good concept with nice ingredients, but i think that things like this from the drugstore generally aren't going to be that great :(
I had thought about trying this product at one time, so I was glad to read this post which reinforced my decision not to. Also, after reading the list of ingredients used, it really made me second-guess using it on the under eye area as this is some of the most sensitive skin on the body.
I bought ita nd I didnt like it it makes me itch =s not cool

I tried this and didn't like it. It didn't irritate my eyes at all, but it also didn't seem to do much of anything.

i 'v bought and i tried but i never seen something different !!!
Diamond are Girl Best Friend !!!
I tried it and it did not work at all. I did not see any difference at all.
I hated this product. I did nothing but make my eyes water and the skin around it even more puffy. The opposite of what i wanted it to do ! I would nevr recommend this to anyone.. Looked so good on the commercial but a fail in real life
I think that the idea of the roller on this product is great, but it didn't really do anything for me. I wish they would remake this and have it be more effective.
I just bought this for my mum. she's 50yrs old and has heavy dark circles and bags. She's been using it pretty it everyday (once in the morning). and surprisingly the product worked for one of her eye!Her left eye, i could tell that the bag has reduced significantly! her right eye, however, didn't really progress. she still like it though

i really want to try this product. i've seen commercials of it all the time. it's inexpensive so i might just give it a try. my eyes aren't really super puffy but as i am getting older, it would not hurt to give this a try.
I still love this in the morning. The other day at CVS I got the face awakening roller for fun and love that too. There is just so much great stuff out there these days.
I am so glad you reviewed this, I keep wanting to try this and was going to look on here and see if anyone reviewed it. I will keep looking for the best product to help with under eye puffiness and dark circles.
I love the concept of this, but I don't really need it. I suffer from dark circles more than puffiness, so I'll just use some Vitamin E Oil under my eyes and then use concealer.
I have been on the hunt for an eye treatment because I want to start a good skin regime early. The commercials for this product intrigued me, but after discovering makeup review sites I rarely try something new without checking up on it first. The reviews for this product are quite negative, so I'm glad I skipped it! I hope to save lots of money in the future without wasting it on duds now that I have great places like megsmakeup.com to check up on them!
I haven't noticed any difference in my dark circles since I've been using this. It does feel nice and cooling when I apply it, but that's about all the benefit I got from it.

I own this product and it works really well. However, anatomical's no old bags alllowed works just as fine and it's much cheaper. I can't see a difference in results on either and that little metal ball isn't sooooo cold after all.... that's just my opinion, anyway
Hmmm. Thanks for the review! I've seen this, and was a little curious, but I tend to gravitate towards eye creams with SPF. At night, I just put a little retinol or Kinerase cream under my eyes and in the crow territory. Now I know that I was't missing anything with this product.
Thanks for the great review. I have not tried, but may look for something else now for my black circles.
Hi Gigi!!I don't really know this Garnier's product , but my best frien had it!
I always had problems of dark circles tired glances, that is why this product me interhook!!
Your opinion is tempting:) The system of ball is funny, and seems effective!
I shall like really having the smooth and floodlit glance from time to time...Nevertheless, I sleep well, but it is a problem of depigmentation, and it is genetic!
Damage for me!But thank you for this opinion, I think of buying it soon
Amy , Big kisses from Paris!
Ive had this for a long time, And it does help on a day to day Basis, But thats all, It shows Results almost straight away, But not as good as what i Exspected, I wish i could find a Products Wich more suited me and would make them Completely Disapear. I Wish!... Maybe Santa will Hear me Ey.. :)

since i first saw its commercial on tv, i was curious, but skeptical about this product. thanks for the article. now i know not to waste my time & money on it.
I gave in! I just feel more comfortable having an eyecream on.. and this one looked so.. good (:I realized now that it was a waste of money...):
I remember when these came out. I personally wasn't attracted to the roller concept so I was somewhat relieved when people started saying bad things about the product.
I have been thinking about getting this, but now I don't think I will. Thank you for the honest review!
I haven't tried this myself, but one of my good girlfriends swears by it.
Lily - Mineral makeup Junkie!!!
It looks neat but i haven't tried it.
great review! i have heard mixed feelings on this product with some loving it and others hating it. might have to give it a try myself!
This looked pretty cool from the commercials- as a nice light massage to stimulate bloodflow to the face is never a bad thing. I thought it was smart they found a way to do this for the eyes. I was going to try this product but am not going to waste my time now. I will stick to using old teabags I keep cool in my fridge. Thank you so, so much for the honesty!
Thank you for the review. I've picked this up a couple of times at the drugstore, putting it back before getting to the checkout. It sounds like I'm not missing much! :-)
They just came out with a new one in a red roller that has a couple more vitamins in it. I think the therapeutic effects of a roller ball outweigh the actual product inside because it is rather sticky and causes some sensitivity when applied too close to the eyes.
Garnier isn't a great product for me, it never works :/
Thanks for the review. I think I'll stick with Oil of Olay's eye serum.
I was never tempted by this at all, but now they have a tinted version which is meant to act as an under-eye concealer I'm curious about that one.
I don't like this product. It's a waste of time and money.
Tried it and I love it. It works. What also works very well is St. Ives Eye and Face Stress Gel. It is made of cucumber and elastin. It really takes any kind of puffiness away. I also discovered English cucumbers. You know they're usually in the health food stores. Much larger cucumbers than the rest. They are amazing. Put them on your eyes and boom 10 minutes later puffiness down!! Plus they are amazing on whole wheat bread with non mayo mayonnaise (non fat) and with a tad of hot sauce. Great finger sandwhiches. Amazing. Great for the face and also great for the body because non fattening!! Yeah!!! : ))) Oh make sure they are freezing cold when you put them on your eyes. Plus the Chamomile Tea bags cold, on your eyes as well. All natural and fantastic. You don't have to spend $85 on the department store brands. Just go to the fridge!! Love it!!

love the honest review! I will pass on trying this since most of the gals are disappointed with the lack of results.
what age should you start using these kinds of products?
