LIKE TO BUY THE WORLD A COKE! TO SCRUB YOUR TILES WITH!
Meghere! I found this article and hey, if I'm going to take the heat for having had alcohol or ciggs then I'm going to turn the tables!
Some interesting facts that I would like to share :
WATER
1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. (Likely applies to half the world population)
2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is mistaken for hunger.
3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%.
4. One glass of water shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study.
5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.
6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.
7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.
8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%., and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.
Are you drinking the amount of water you should drink every day?
COKE
1. In many states the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from the highway after a car accident.
2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke and it will be gone in two days.
3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and let the "real thing" sit for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china.
4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.
5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion.
6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Apply a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes.
7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake. Thirty minutes before ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.
8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of Coke into the load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your windshield.
So, are you going to have a glass of Coke instead of a glass of water? Think about it again. Any thoughts?!

...am printing this out for husband to read! I hate carbonated sodas, always have, they makemy tummy twirl! It's truly amazing when we stop to think about some of the chit we put into our bodies out of habit rather than out of need...Cool article!
This was a fabulous topic! I completely adored the retro Coca-cola image! Loved it! Diet Coke was my drink of choice for a long time, but times have changed and I do try SOOOOOOOOO HARD to drink 8 glasses of water a day but it’s difficult as I’m just not that thirsty! Everything you read about being healthy advocates drinking 8 glasses of water a day! The best hint I found to help achieve that goal is to fill a pitcher with 8 glasses of water and then every time you need a drink take it from the pitcher and the goal of the game is to drink it all by the end of the day! Sometimes I actually succeed! My real inspiration for water drinking is my Harley man...he can drink a bottle of water in one minute flat and does! He says he got this skills from the old beer drinking days when he was young! He carries water with him everyplace he goes no matter what! If he was an old time outlaw in the west, he’d have water bottles in both slots of a hip holster as well as lined up on an ammunition belt slung across his chest! He’s THAT into water! Anyway...the best testimonial for him is that the dentist constantly tells him what great condition his teeth and gums are in and they both attribute it to all the water he drinks! So...just another reason to keep sucking down the clear liquid that comes in bottles, out of the tap, out of backyard hose, in filtering units...water is our friend!

BTW...I grew up in a small mountain town in No Cal called Weed. Don't laugh...I've heardALL the jokes. But we had the BEST water ever. Crystal clear, cold, and fresh out of Mt. Shasta. You'll never taste anything like it. Crystal Geiser is bottled thereand though I don't like to contribute to plastic bottle waste...when I DO need waterto go for camping and such its ALWAYS CG I turn to. It's not crappy "purified" Dasanior other faux water. It's TRUE natural spring water right out of the mountain. If youhave the choice at your store, look on the side label for Mt. Shasta, the bottled in Weed, CA address and support my home town. I promise you its the best bottled wateraround. You taste nothing...but actual water! Who'd of thunk it!!! Go Weed High Cougars!!!!!!
Love, hugs and shoes...Angie
Oh, and sweetassgal - I'll be on the look-out Crystal Geiser for my camping tricks... just as soon as I finish off the 15 gallons I have in my garage right now ;) Thanks for the tip! I'm always looking for good water if I'm out and about w/o my Brita!! I HATE chemical-tasting water - yuck!
Meg, this was verrrry interesting but I'm afraid it was a "gotcha." Check out the following site that researches urban legends: http://www.snopes.com/cokelore/acid.aspI love your site and always forward to all the reviews. You go, Girl!
Love, love, love water! I get on kicks where I'm all about it, then my hubby brings a 2-liter of Sprite home & I'm like, "Brita who?" But once I'm back on the water, I really do feel a difference. It's much better for your bones & especially YOUR TEETH!! Nevermind the different views on whether the chemicals break down your teeth or not, they still leave a coating of sugar on them & that is warfare for your enamel! I've been a smoker for almost 20 years now (I KNOW, I KNOW - working on it!) & friends always ask how my teeth can be so white - I believe it's b/c I don't drink all the soda & coffee like they do. You definitely have to get yourself in the habit of drinking to be healthy & hydrated, not to satisfy your sweet tooth. Now that it's getting so cold out, water is more important than ever. Save the soda for special events (like when you're at a friend's house and they give you water from the tap - ewww! It actually feels like a treat when you've gone a while w/o a soda) Even if you don't drink the 8 glasses, at least drink a few and try to build yourself up. Plus, I've had friends that have lost weight simply by cutting out soda!! I'd much rather EAT my calories than DRINK them (unless we're talking cocktails, then it's all out the window). Save your calories for what really matters - ALCOHOL & DESSERT!! ;) Priorities, ladies - priorities :)
Okay, so I need to proofread! I LOOK forward to all the reviews!
I wish I could be one of those ladies who just HATES soda pop but I'm not. I love thetingly way the bubbles burn my nose and bubble down my throat. Sometimes there is justnothing better than a Mickey D's Coke (don't know why theirs is better) or a fountainpop 7Up. However, I also LOVE water and drink a TON of it. To me the key is balanceand moderation. My H2O intake definitely dwarfs my soda consumption but every once ina while I have to have one. One thing for sure...our country drinks WAY too many sodas, power drinks, flavored waters, and fake healthy stuff. I cringe every time I see a teenage kid downing a mega sized Monster energy drink. Because yeah...that's what everyteen needs...MORE energy! Anyway, though I admit I have to have a pop now and then,if it came down to one choice I'd pick the natural spring stuff any day!!!

That was scary as hell,Im a reformed diet coke addict ,havent touched the stuff in 8 yrs it was making my teeth hurt ,jez, just as well I gave it up,Im as guilty as anyone with not drinking enough water,am thinking of trying the willow water challenge, where you drink it for 6 weeks and they give you your money back if you dont see a huge difference in your skin.

I stay away from Coke. I used to drink it but now I avoid it. If you read the label you'll see an ingredient called phosphoric acid. It is a strong acid, that's why you can clean rust with Coke!
Ew, I hate coke even more after reading this!! :PAnd I need to start drinking more water...
EUGH im so glad i prefer water anyways.. i watcher supersize me once and that changed everything, i used to love going for a big mac meal every now and again... oh welll.. plenty of other more healthy things taste well better

I was emailed this info about a year ago. My dad has always said this about coke. He would always tell us people cleaned the Coke trucks with the actual Coke. Although, I have been guilty of having a glass or two or three. :-/However, I have stopped drinking coke and my favorite Mt. Dew. I am a water-holic now. I am doing weight watchers to lose the baby weight...much like Jenny McCarthy did. I still can't really drink plain water unless I am super thirsty. So, I mix crystal light to go packs in my water. This helps me reach my recommended intake.

Water is my beverage of choice. Unless I'm having a cup of tea or a cocktail, the only thing I drink is water. Not sure why, I've never been a fan of dark sodas (except Dr Pepper, which I was addicted to for a long time), Coke and Pepsi always gross me out. It might have something to do with the fact that I was never allowed to drink it growing up.. soda was a rare 'treat', and even then it was only the clear stuff-- 7UP or Sprite, or Ginger Ale if I had an upset tummy.
I used to drink coke, hmmm i have a problem i hate water.
I have always had a serious coke & root beer addiction. I had several sodas a day...think of all the wasted calories and sugar.I finally gave up soda and now drink at least 8 glasses of good old fashioned h20 everyday.I like the soda uses you listed...very eye opening.

i'm an addict to coke the real coke not the diet .... i know its not good for healthy ... but the taste is sooo good !!!
Water is beneficial for a million reasons, and I try to drink at least 8-10 glasses a day, and I can really feel it on the days I drink less! But, I have to admit, I love diet coke and can not go one day without a can! Interesting fact: Coca-cola contains less citric acid than orange juice! and the gastric acids in your stomach are much stronger than any of the acids in Cola-cola so it will do no harm in that aspect!
Yes but the acids in Coke are still not good for your teeth. You know whats funny? I was drinking coke today and afterwords I had the worst aftertaste in my mouth and so I wanted some food to get ride of the aftertaste. Maybe thats why it affects your diet.
The funny thing is, everyone says that diet coke is horrible for your diet because it makes you crave more sweets. But it is completely opposite for me, if I'm craving any type of junk food, I can drink coffee or a diet coke and poof! craving is gone :) But soda is bad for your teeth (as well as coffee) and unfortunately I love both!
whoa water "can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%".... that number totally shocked me. and reading those things about coke makes me happy that i have pretty much stopped drinking it. i think my teeth enamel suffered from my over-drinking of soda when i was younger. i'm going to grab a cup of water now!

I wish I didn't like soda......But I love it! It tastes delicious, gives me energy, and makes me feel good inside. I do try and drink a ton of water too. And I don't drink soda everyday. My favorite is Dr. Pepper, and nothing tastes better then a ice cold Dr. Pepper on a hot summer day. Some of the things listed above are very scary. I'm not sure if all of those are true or not either. But even if every one of those statements are correct it won't change anything for me. I have an addiction a horrible horrible addiction to DP. If you tried to take me off of DP, I would literally go into DT's. And until the day that a soda rehab center is available, it will be unfathomable for me to stop drinking soda. Water is great though! I try and drink about 80 oz a day. I have read a lot of places that some people need more then the standard 8-10 cups a day, and it is all based on body weight. Apparently the more we weigh the more water we need. And that makes a lot of sense to me. And then for every 30 minutes that you are sweating a lot, like if you are working out or tanning you will need an additional glass of water. To figure out how much water you need you are suppoed to take your weight and divide it by two. The resulting number is the amount ,in ounces, of water you need each day. And remember to add an extra 8oz glass of water for every 30 minute period during the day where you are sweating a lot. So let's say that you weigh 140 pounds. 140/2=70. So that means you would need 70oz of water a day. And then let's say you work out for an hour that day. That would be an extra 16oz of water you would need. So in that day you would need to down about 86oz of water that day. Which would equal to almost 11, 8oz glasses of water.
haha, ive heard so many nasty things to do with coke. a tooth would dissolve if left in coke long enough! why do we drink this stuff.... :P ah well, at least brush your teeth after you drink.
Water is mostly what I drink. I love coke but it's scary that you can use it in abrasive cleaning.

I don't feel thirsty often, so have to drink water even if I don't feel like it. Now that I live in such a hot humid climate I am very worried about getting dehydrated so I am constantly drinking water. I know all the bad stuff about pop, but I don't care! I will still have one every once and a while. Since pop is so expensive down here it is much easier to cut back and treat myself to a Ting (caribbean grapefruit pop, so good!) every now and then. And I believe Mythbusters tested out some of the Coke myths, and none of the cleaning ones are actually true. The coke didn't really do anything.
I've read that article before, freaky huh? I hate coke, it just seems evil to me, lol.

I would drink water. :)
I drink a couple of pints of water a day, but need to get in the habit of drinking more. Having said that, an occaisional coke is alright :)
Apparantly the aritificial sweeteners in diet drinks can lead to cancer :/
i love this
