A VERY SPOOKY FRAGRANT FRIDAY!
Vexy here! HAPPY HALLOWEEN! your Friday Fragrance fiend, bringing you something a little different this Friday: some spooky scents and scary smells! Okay, so they're not /that/ scary, but in honor of Halloween, I figured I'd bring you some fall-oriented scented goodies!
Lush The Great Pumpkin Soap- Okay, this one doesn't smell exactly like pumpkin, but I love it anyway! It's got sort of a pumpkin-cinnamon-citrusy scent that reminds me, oddly enough, of Lucy from Charlie Brown. To quote Lush: "You'll want a whole brick but be warned, it's even heavier than real pumpkin. Probably best to get yourself a manageable slice or two. This new, limited edition soap is a creamy, pumpkin-colored affair with a scent borrowed from our gorgeous Almond Buttercream: sweet orange, mandarin, lime and cinnamon leaf." It just seems like the kind of scent she'd use- sweet with a little kick, just like her! Whenever I use it, I remember watching The Great Pumpkin as a kid with my mom and dad.
Demeter Fragrance Library Sweet Delights Caramel- This delightful little cologne is something I came across entirely by accident. And by "accident", I mean I'm not responsible for this find at all. Blame it on a good friend and choir-mate of mine who ran up to me last week, raving about this little bottle and demanding that I review it. I figured, what better time than Halloween, the night of sweet treats? But on to the scent. Demeter fragrances are a little different in that most of them don't have descernable top notes and base notes (at least to me!) but this one does smell /exactly/ like chewy caramels! I have to be wary about wearing this around the boyfriend- it always makes him hungry and I wind up cooking instead of cuddling!
Philosophy's The Haunted House- It's a gift set for all-hallows eve, and it's FULL of delicious. I think the boy is getting irritated with me because I don't have a bathtub in my dorm room- woe- and I am over his house every other night to take a bath with one of these. My favorite of the three is the caramel apple. It reminds me of childhood halloween parties! My momma got me this as a late housewarming gift, since I have the biggest sweet tooth on the planet (plus, I got her a Philosophy set last Christmas and proceeded to use half of the things myself). One thing I will say about Philosophy is their scents are always dead-on. I'm always wary of licorice smells because often they smell... well... gross and fake. This one, however, is a scream! Pun intended. The caramel one is a great compliment to the Caramel Cologne I mentioned above, though none of the scents linger that much after your bath (unless you use them as a shampoo- then they cling like crazy!). Still, great for bath time!
Aquolina Blue Sugar- This first came to my attention as a potential female scent by one of the ladies at Meg's- the wonderful papoose! It's retained it's signature sweetness I fell for in Pink Sugar, but it has this undercurrent of tartness (from the bergamot and tangerine leaves) and almost a swirl of spicy darkness (from the licorice, the ginger, and the coriander, I reckon) that makes it far less girly than Pink Sugar. While I can't imagine the manly, manly men going for this, it's a great cycle-breaker for us gals! Says Aquolina: "Aquolina's first foray into men's fragrance opens with a delightful harmony of caramelized sugar and vanilla blended with heady notes of cedar and tonka bean. The heart of the fragrance is rich with energetic notes of licorice, patchouli, lavender, and coriander, freshened with crisp bergamot and mandarin, and finished with soothing notes of anise. Blue Sugar is a fragrance of contrasts - fun and effervescent, yet supremely masculine." Supremely masculine- maybe not, but definitely something to try!
And, to finish up this exciting holiday post, some exciting news! Vexy's gone and gotten herself a job! Not just any job- a job at LUSH! I'm hanging around with some of the most beauty-savvy gals in my city (at least I think) so I'm excited to broaden my fragrance horizons with what they can show me!
Happy haunting and safe spooking, ladies! Remember, be FRIGHTFULLY fabulous, and share with me some of your most tricksy-treats!

My name is Calico Von Spunk and I am a Philosophy addict. My favorite is the Pumpkin out of the whole selection. It reminds me of an Indian spice shop I visited once--sweet, musky and not overpowering. I could sniff this stuff all day!Love reading your reviews, Vexy! You are very descriptive and I appreciate it, it is always a fun adventure. :DOn the side, I haven't tried Lush, but I've heard a few good things about the company, might try it. Any recomendations?
I saw this recently and was totatlly intrigued. Yes, its all the scents of fall wrapped intoone and I LOVED it. I'm still using up my Philosphy coconut from summer but I think theCaramel Apple will have to be my fall scent. Thanks Vexy!
Love, hugs and shoes...Angie
While soaking in my witches brew at the local haunted castle this magnificent Halloween day, I came across today’s review about spooky scents. I realized in reading that I desperately some more potion to ramp up the fragrance of my bat dung slime that I have been using to soften my skin when showering. I am a fan of Philosophy shower gels for the most part - I like them for showering but not so much for using as a shampoo which they indicate you CAN do. My bone dry witches’ mane needs a lot more special attention than what the Philosophy ingredients can address in their shower gel. When you put the contents of their elixir on your shrunken head and use it to soap up, every time you’ll be transfixed by the potency of their brands smells! I haven’t tried the scent palettes that the always intoxicating Vexy talks about today but my personal favorite is Senorita Margarita! Without question, it smells like a REALLY good Margarita and for some reason it floats my boat to smell that in my shower! Maybe just the smell brings me to such a relaxed level I don’t notice that I’m surrounded with ghouls and that the ceiling is dripping blood. But then, that’s just at my house on Hallows Eve! Speaking of Philosophy...I soared over their counter on my broom this week and saw that they have a NEW fragrance called “Snow Shower”! The description says... “Create a winter wonderland in your shower. Philosophy's Snow Shower exfoliating shower gel smells so crisp and clean and has a hint of shimmer, like the first snowfall. The formula contains exfoliating grains that gently polish and smooth the skin along with natural extracts to help improve skin’s softness, suppleness, and elasticity. Let it snow!” Oh man...that sounds SO good to me! I bet opening a bottle of snow shower would completely rid my aura of the demons and mummified remains that cling to me on this day. Sort of like the scene in that long ago Indiana Jones movie - I’d open the bottle and the swirling scent would completely wipe out any negativity surrounding my graveyard shower set up! Then actually using the product on my barnacle covered skin could probably work some magic there too! I bet the dead flesh would slough right off using those exfoliating grains! I love reading Vexy’s reviews - she completely takes you inside the product and you can practically SMELL her descriptions and feel her delight in so many of them! She definitely worked her spell on me with this review! I agree with her - Philosophy’s scents ARE always DEAD on! Happy Halloween to all you Vivacious Vexy Vixens from Jeanasina - just sitting here all ghouled up and no-place to go!
Jeanasina!
LOVE the Philosophy gels!!! Am excited to go and find the "Snow Showers" one as well as it's still in the 80's here...I agree that Vexy's reviews are amazing as well!Am thilled to hear you got a gig at "LUSH"...there is supposed to be one opening at a Macy's 60 miles away and I will be haunting them asap! I adore Lush, going in to shop when possible, and the employees!!!
Mmmmmm I love Philosophy. I have the hot cocoa 3-in-1 and it's fantastic. I even use the recipie on the bottle and it tastes heavenly
I absolutely adore Philosophy's bath products. They smell so so good!
I LOVE philosophy 3-in-1's. The body wash is so moisturizing without leaving a film behind...they have so many great scents to choose from, too.I also have a thing for Aquolina Pink Sugar...it makes me smell like cotton candy, but for me that's a good thing! My boyfriend doesn't much care for it, though..
The 3-in-1's are awesome! They all smell so good! I love multi-tasking products.
adorable

I am addicted to almost all things Philosophy. Love most 3 in 1's, although my favorites are the non sweet, not too foodie ones. Alas, they discontinued Empowermint. I worry about what I will do when I run out of my stash.I do love the Gingerbreadman. And the good thing is my daughter likes all the ones I don't.Blue Sugar. What can I say. This is something I got for DH, but, stole for myself. It is to me the perfect sugar. So not supremely masculine.
I love products that smell like food. I like to smell delicious! My favorites are apple and cinnamon scents and any baked goods. Philosophy generally does a good job with their scents. I hate when food scents are cloyingly sweet.
I love Philosophy's Red Licorice body wash. Yummy! It smells absolutely scrumptious. I want to eat it. :)
I want some of this so bad. I always smell Philiosophy's body washes when I stop in at sephora. Ginger bread man smells heavenly! I also like the Grace fragrances they have. I have never owned any, but would love to. I can smell them now!BTW, I can't wait for Halloween this year!
A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.

you can't go wrong with philosophy! the scents are amazing and smells exactly how it should. i have coconut and it smells so good that you just want to eat it.
I have ALWAYS wanted to try Philosophy! I always read stories online about their shower washes and lotions, and the scents they come up with sound divine!! I really need to pick myself up one of them...
Okay you have convinced me ! i am going to have to try these:-)
These scents look fantastic. Gosh now I'm going to have to head over to Sephora.. here we go!!! I just love trying new ones, but I always go back to the ones that work. I wholeheartedly do understand the complete wearing way, way too much parfume, perfume, eu du toilette, you name it, whatever they are called. I have been around those women and literally wanted to stick a bandaide up my nose. I'm thinking if they were ever the type to be those outdoorsy kinda of women who like to hike where there may be bears around, (bionic noses), they surely are looking to get attacked. Not for the lovely scents but for angering the creature! I'm for the one dab on the back of the ears and maybe a tiny on the wrists.. believe me the rest is too much. Remember a little goes a long way.
