WHAT POINT DO YOU MODIFY? MONDAYS WITH MEG!
Meg here, I know other people's dirty laundry shouldn't be so fun to air, when it's Madonna and Guy Ritchie's divorce though, It's pretty darn fun.
"We never had sex, She sleeps slathered in $1,000 jars of cream and sleeps in a plastic body bag to prevent aging! Her pesonal trainer lives with us and she trains 2 hours a day 6 days a week!"
"He said that I looked like a granny next to my back-up dancers!"
I'm not condoning Guy for calling her a granny or anything but Jeez. Plastic body bag? Slathered Every night in $1,000 creams. Yikes, I use my night ritual as faithfully as I can but when has it gone too far?
At what point do you just say "I'm fifty, I'm a huge icon. I have a boatload of money. I'm going to take a flippin' night off and eat this Chunky Monkey icecream. Next, I'll have some doritos and not wash my face and fall asleep." Then, if you're husband is being an ass and calls you a granny you flip him off and put on Conan.
I've had this argument before, a friend of mine told me after 30yrs. old a women shouldn't wear short skirts. I'm 32, my legs have hung in there. I'm wearing my short skirts when I feel like it. On the other side of the coin, you should see some of the 45 yr. old women in Beverly Hills. It's like they never got the memo that wearing a pink mid-riff shirt and tight, hot pink sweatpants with the words "Juicy" written in rhinestones on their ass isn't a good look to be sporting out at lunch.
I'm all for Mommy and Me. I think that's a class you take with your kids. I don't think it's an answer to the question "Do you have a bib top?"
It's just like they're hanging on to inappropriate fashion as a desperate measure to hang onto youth. In Madonna's last "Sticky and Sweet" tour she does look a little ridiculous all veiny and buff and rolling around in a leather corset. Pass the torch. Enjoy your success. Relax lady.
Madonna is the Queen of Pop. As my gay friends say "There's nothing sadder then an Old Queen that can't let it go."
Alright, let me have it. What do you ladies think? Am I being too harsh on the young at heart set?

One thing for sure is that Madonna is a good entertainer, no doubt about that.. But as you said it's time she passes the torch to someone younger more full of life, for a good time everyone thought it was going to be Britney, hopefully Britney has overcome all thos obstacles that were tormenting her in the last couple of years and can have a very well deserved come back and maybe just maybe the torch will be handed down to her..
Ooooh.....tough one for sure! At "my age" (54 and holding...) it really is dis-heartening to see so many beautiful young women who "dummy down" in terms of their clothing, their manners, and their lives in order to gain the acceptance of both shallow men and insecure women. To me,confidence is what make someone a standout at ANY age...I see no problem with rocking a great pair of jeans, heels or boots, and a little black top,it's my "uniform" most days and gets me my lion's share of attention...when you resort to wearing things or acting in ways that wouldn't be "hot" no matter what they are or who is doing it,it simply becomes cheap and tawdry.I am weary of slutty being acceptable and I mean that in every sense of the word and in every nuance of life.I do not believe in "fading away gracefully" at ALL but I DO firmly believe in growing up and accepting that you have achieved what you've wanted (or not) in your life and letting your future define you henceforth, not your past (thank God,LOL!).Re-define all you want but please take into consideration that what and who YOU are might simply not be the same as before and that can be a very good thing!Kuddos to Madonna for her hard work, determination, and ability to morph but honestly, she is starting to become a parody of herself at this point and will be relegated to the ranks of the "juicy on their ass" crowd and that's just not cool anymore. There's a lot to be siad for keeping one's dignity intact and she's starting to lose hers IMO...
well, i think she should do whatever the hell she wants to do and shouldn't downplay or temper herself at all. i mean, years from now people will be saying, "oh that madonna, she was over the top and fabulous" (i.e. cleopatra, marchesa casati, bette davis, marilyn monroe, etc). as far as dressing for your age, screw that. i say wear what makes you happy and makes you feel sexy. look at betsey johnson, vivienne westwood and anita pallenberg-they look great. if madonna's contemplating the choice between $1,000 creams and her husband, then something was off anyway, something that had nothing to do with creams. she needs to either find someone who will accept her for who she is-even if she's a preening, vainglorious workaholic-or simply remain alone. that's what i'd do. personally i think she's never gotten over sean penn, but that's another story...
I agree that maybe the leotards sort of do end up making her look older. There are plenty of older (40's, 50's, 60's) celebrities that dress their age and just look way younger than they actually are. I'm not saying that 40's and 50's are even necessarily old, but 40 and 50 year olds wearing Juicy sweatsuits with the rhinestones look OLDER so you need to know enough is enough. And personally, I just could never stay away from a good Cheeseburger once in a while to keep ME in the gym 12 hours per week.

Madonna needs to recognize that her STAR had dimmed. Sit down and let someone else SHINE. She looks well but needs to let go of her youth because it has certainly let go of her.
Oh Meg, just go with the wonderful nastiness of it. to enhance the experience, go on line and read the British Daily Mail, a delightfulgossip experience if there ever was one. They have a fixation on the Beckhams, and Liz Hurley and Madge as they call her. Open the bubbley, unwrap the chocolates and gorge on the wonderful awfulness of it all. I am not usually a gossip girl but secretely, we have all b4een waiting for this to happen. As my mamma used to say, you hang out your dirty laundry, you gotta expect comments. My darling Meg, as another Angeleno, albeit a chubby old broad, I am amazed at the desparate ages you see in Belly shirts on the street here. Kind of a low class uniform of the noveau-riche belly shirts/and low-low rise jeans. I don't mind if there is more shirt than there is belly. We were at the dentist and i saw a handful of young ladies, dressedjust so but with stunning blone hair and amazingly over the top makeup. I swear it looked like a hooker convention at 1pm in the afternooon. I then realized that the headquarters for Hustler was on the other corner. Question answered. Love LA doncha??tortiequeen
dotti, old but not dead yet, polymath still in training, makeup junkie and general overspender.
I think as women age and how we age should dictate on how we dress. If you got killer legs (Tina Turner for example) show them off, but I think Sophia Loren, Diane Keeten, Princess Grace, and even the prez of Frances wife (old Stones groupie) and tons of musical and movie stars know how to work with what they got. I think someone who is 50 in bustier and tights on stage unless she is in a burlesque show or doing a spoof should maybe take a look at what kind of legacy she is leaving. We need to change with our age. We change our makeup, our hair, our views why not update your clothes? For how much is too much for makeup. Slathering on so much that your spouse doesn't want to sleep with you should have been a siqnal to cut back. More isn't always better is it?

BAHAHAHAH! This is FREAKING Hilarious.
Indeed! Youth is a state of mind. Apparently, after 30 years of being a dominant force in music, pop culture and fashion, Madonna's state of mind and perspective are a bit whacked out. This is not a unique situation. There are very few super mega stars that manage to age gracefully. In fact, Madonna seems almost sane compared to Tom Cruise (apparently mid life crisis' happen to you no matter what closet you are hiding in) or Michael Jackson (crazy space alien). I guess it's all relative right? Just like aging itself... its all in your head.
This is a toughie...I mean, no one looks at Tony Bennet and tells him he's too old to performbut then again he doesn't roll around in a corset. I definitely thing we are pushing theage thing WAY beyond what it used to be. We were told years ago to hang it up after 30 andwe've still got another 50 years to go! So I don't like to encourage women to just give itup because they are maturing but I definitely think taste has to come into play. I knowtaste is subjective but as I get older I look at the clothes I'm wearing and the way I presentmyself and I always ask "Would Audrey, Grace, and Jackie O approve?". If the answer is yesthen I'm good. I think beauty changes with each age. Being confident in your age and holdingyourself with grace go much farther than just an overly tight body and dependence on plasticsurgury. Look at Helen Mirren...she's in her sixties and still hotter than hell. But shedoesn't come across as trying to be anything other than a sixty year old. I adore Madonnaand I applaud her efforts at self preservation but I think she can take a page from her Vogueera and rock the pants and classic 40's look which would compliment her and not make herlook like a lady who's stayed too long at the party. That is, after all...the mark of a true lady. Our childrens generation lack the existence of a true lady figure to look up to.Heck...I had to steal mine from my grandmothers generation. I just wish more people knewhow to age beautifully, gracefully and with class. Give my daughter someone who is STRONG, feminine, empowered, independent...and still manages to bring it across with ultimate class.Oh Carolyn Bessette Kennedy...we still mourn you. What you would have done for a generationof sagging pants and mid-drift tops.
Love, hugs and shoes...Angie
the thing is, time cannot be beaten. If you know this, whatever you do cannot bring you back your youth. The sooner you accept it,the better.
I couldn't agree more, Meg!! I sometimes think that women, in an effort to look younger, make themselves look older when they try to dress 20-30 years younger than they are. I will never be twenty again, but I want to age gracefully and look the best I can for my age. I love one of the women's magazines--Harper's Bazaar, maybe?--that takes a style and shows how it can be worn for all age groups. There is nothing sillier than seeing an aging woman trying to look like her teenage daughter. It just isn't going to work no matter how much exercise or plastic surgery you have (or $1,000 creams!). We age, get over it!! As for Madonna, yes, she should realize that she's no longer 20 and the antics that worked then don't work now. You can only do the schtick for so long. But I do give Madonna credit for being able to reinvent herself so many times that she has kept her career alive this long. The problem is that there is no adult equivalent for what Madonna does. But then, again, if the Stones can do it into their 60's, why not her? Although, I do think it is time for the Stones to hang it up, as well!! Pattykate
Here's the thing: Madonna looks great. But if she really does all that stuff, plus plastic surgery, she should look way better. I mean, look at Christie Brinkley and Jaclyn Smith, who probably do a lot to stay ageless and gorgeous, but probably not nearly as much as Madonna is purported to do, and they could each hold their own beside Madonna's back up singers. And they are both older than Madonna, by several years. I always thought that she looked her best in the 80's, not so ripped, ridiculously smoky eyes, roots showing, she just looked hot, like the perfect edgy pop princess.
I think you stated, perfectly, what most of us are thinking. I remember when I heard those comments Guy made. I thought...are you serious?!!!I do think she is trying to hold onto some of her youth and fame. I think she will be in the "spotlight" for years to come. She is not the type to just settle into obscurity for the remainder of her life.she couldn't even pass the torch to Britney Spears. She had to be in her video and kiss her on stage. It's like she needed the current spotlight on her again.
A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.

I think it's awful when wrinkles come before your marriage. I understand that she is a star and has to keep up appearances but that's just wrong. Madonna needs to get her priorities sorted out.
I think that if you got it flaunt it whatever your age as long as it's in somewhere appropriate. That being said .. I do that that part of looking beautiful and young is not necessarily trying to dress younger look younger... but to age wonderfully and gracefully... work with what you have so your look beautiful even as the years go by. We all want to "cheat" aging at some point.. whether with makeup, creams, or botox but i think it's all good as long as it doesn't get in the way of the rest of your life.
You are definitely not too harsh, I totally agree. In my opinion she kinda looks like a freak, and where does she find the time to spend with her children (didn't she just adopt another one?). She should relax, drink some wine and enjoy life.
I totally agree, I honestly think that Madonna makes herself look older because she trying so hard to look young!
i think there is definitely a limit to what people should wear when they turn a certain age. i think what madonna wears is a too crazy.. we know how old she is and thats not going to change, so why cant she just dress nicely...?
heee's horrible.
Your post was sure funny. Yup, I saw one of these type of ladys just the other night. The image is burned in my memory. And for a bonus, her husband was just as bad. They made quite the couple. But I guess they seemed happy and that is all that really matters.
Yes, I agree. You don't need to look young. Leave the looking young to the young folks. I think the best way to beautiful is simple - ACT YOUR AGE. I don't think being old means being ugly, it means being wise. Cheesy, right? It's oh so true. The women that embraces her age with grace we always be beautiful. Your speckles of grey hair are a sign of growing old, but they don't mean ugly. Age with grace.
