Meg here! So my girlfriend Lauren is a genius screenwriter and a fantastic friend to yours truly. She has a whole theory, the smartest girls are the dumbest daters? Why? Well, you see we seem to not think the "rules" apply to us. When in fact, there's just no getting around that the "rules" unfortunately pretty much always apply to everyone.
If I am a smart girl and am interested in someone then I will just tell them or actually be available and if they are busy maybe work around the schedule or whatever. This is the kiss of death. Apparently. The smart girl that is used to thinking and analyzing situations will also apply her grey matter to the subject of her interest. Never do this! I'm new at this and used to be quite good at it. Now I am older and wiser and DUMBER!!
I'm making mistakes left and right, the mistakes are usually made after mulling it around in my head. Atleast I now I'm not alone. Hey, don't fault me. I didn't come up with "Misery loves company." This company is no small mom and pop business but a huge conglomerate of a corporation filled with women scratching their heads in confusion.

How genius is Lauren? I am lucky to have such dumb girls as friends.

Okay, I have been a long time lurker on your blog (LOVE it), and although I have come close to posting before, this pushed me over the edge, so to speak. Reading that described my current situation perfectly. What is the definition for someone who knows they are being dumb, despite themselves, but they continue to listen to their heart and not their head?
You will be unattached for exactly 5 minutes if any men catch a glimpse of that photo!!!!Enjoy being single. Take it from me, married to a great guy, and looking at 21st anniversary this Friday.
LMAO! I can especially relate to the "rationalizing the late night booty call" and "making excuses" for him thing. That is hilarious! Why are us "dumb girls" so smart in everyday life when it comes to everything else, but then when it comes to guys, that gets thrown out the window?? Sometimes I don't know if we just are truly overanalyzing a creature so simple that it need not be analyzed at all (a man), or if in assuming a man's simplicity, we end up underestimating him?
Just to add another pearl of wisdom: I believe that any woman can have almost any man and have him worship her and give her everything she wants...if she knows how to play the games right. But you know a man is the right one when you do not have to play any games (and can for the love of God, tell him how much you like him without fear of him running away in fear) and he wants to be with you and gives you everything you want anyways. But if you haven't found that man, and you want your man to act up and shape up, its pretty basic and all men follow the same formula.
I think we sometimes forget that our hearts lead without consulting our brains. Its just a disconnect between the two. I've hada great deal of experience with this in my twenties and being a very smart girl myself I just couldn't get it straight. My problem stems from the fact that I just don't have a filter. I don't hold back and I don't play games and this got me in trouble. I never learned how to withhold and how to be mysterious. Fortunately I finally found a man who liked my open honesty and he eventually became my husband. Looks like those other guys we were dumb about just weren't the right one's after all.

The other problem with us so called intelligent/beautiful etc women is that we often have a lot of self confidence (which is awesome whoo ya go us). This self confidence often sometimes leads us to think "of course he is actually into me and he had to go out of town suddenly and that's why he didn't call for two weeks...I am awesome. He is totally the exception to the rules because how could he not be into me". Its a problematic attitude and we have to learn that just because we are undeniably awesome, some people just aren't that into some people.
This is me for sure... I never thought it would happen to me, I thought I was different and smart, and I wound up getting hurt worse than I could ever imagine. Dumb me!
