It is SO that time of year. The time of year that we call, in my hometown Dallas, Hell. It's been over 100 degrees here every day for at least three weeks. So it always seems like a REALLY big tease when the GAP starts to put light sweaters and jeans in their display windows. I won't be wearing a JACKET until about October 27, at LEAST. I may still even wear shorts on Thanksgiving. So "fall trends" can be a laaaaaarge placebo to swallow sometimes. Over the years, you have to learn to pick out those fall trends that you can make work (and not melt off your face or make you want to join a nudist colony). Sephora's new Fall Fashion animation is all Gray Eyes and and Dark Lips....but I just dont think you can get away with maroon lips at all anywhere unless you're a vampire or its below 50 degrees outside.
I have decided to embrace the fiery and bright orange-ish reds that have appeared in several lines' fall collections. They're a great way to segue into wearing reds if you're rhodo-phobic. They're seriously wearble. They aren't as scary as bloody-mess-all-over-your-face red. I think you all should give them a try!
Bare Escentuals Buxom Babes Full Color Gloss in Roxanne. The Buxom Babes glosses got great reviews on Megsmakeup.com For the fall they've introduced Full Color versions of the gloss - the same tingly and plumping texture of the gloss only FULL color! And the other colors are metallic and glossy and gorgeous!
NARS Lipstick in Beautiful Liar. I think they must have named it this because you can totally picture Shakira wearing this type of color. It's somewhat sheer but if you find a lip liner that's close to the color you could really fill it out. And hey, if you're going to tell a lie you might as well have beautiful lips while you do it!
Dior Rouge in Action Red. I love these creamy, luxuriously packaged lipsticks. Now just a good reason to add it to your already ridiculous lip product collection. Because I said so!
Fresh Sugar Lip Gloss in Sugar-Pin Up. These are like really nice colored lip treatments! They come in 12 shades of great reds and pinks otherwise.
Anyone else ready for fall reds? Am I the only one melting?

I'm loving the Buxom shade pictured! With my newly reddish/auburn hair I think thiswould be a GREAT fall compliment. We've had a pretty mellow summer here in the valleybut I can empathize with all the ladies dealing with the heat. I'm all about the coolfall evenings and I'm really looking forward to them!

Ooohhhh my favorite topic, "lipgloss"! I LOVE Buxom lipgloss I've got two in mt makeup bag, I have in color Amber and Bianca and love them both. Next time I'm in Sephora I will need to try the color Roxanne. And last time I was at Sephora I got myself the Fresh Lipgloss in SAatine and it has become my favorite lipgloss at the moment ;-) Most of my lipgloss are very light coolor but thei Satine one is like a redish plum??? But is once on the lips it's not too red or too dark just perfect touch of color. Thanks Kate!
Oh, dark lips. I cannot pull thee off. Mostly because it almost never goes below 50 where I live, but also because I'm a total klutz with lipstick. I'm a member of the lipgloss generation! Still, I swatched a few of the darker colors on my hand when I went into Sephora today and I'm absolutely in LOVE with the Urban Decay lipsticks that just came out, especially the one in Apocalypse. It goes on a LOT sheerer than the color in the tube and I think it'd be a nice Florida alternative to the dark lip trend. I'm definitely picking it up when I get the cash. I do love the Buxom Babes lip gloss, too! I didn't swatch the full color because the BE shelves were, as per usual, swamped. I also love the new Smashbox Wicked Lovely collection- the color duo with the pale pinks is so pretty, and that dark blackberry gloss I think would look fantastic on some of you northern gals in the winter. I think that's Vanessa pictured. Roxanne is a fiery orange-red but theres a couple other shades on the red specturm, so you should go into a store to check them out - I guess that's the best way to get a handle on what color they REALLY are, if you can.

I have been wanting to find a wearable deep red and the color of this gloss looks gorgeous! Is that the Roxanne pictured? Headed over there to check out these shades this weekend! Thanks! And, Kate, I feel your pain! I'm in southern Louisiana and the heat with the humidity here makes it unbearable! We don't have 4 seasons here. There's just hot and hotter! I rarely have to break out a coat at all through the winter! Which is a shame, for I do love the big and swanky trenchcoats, peacoats,...oh heck, ANY coats for that matter!
I hear you on the relentless heat (South Texas here!) BUT,to my way of thinking as a transplanted Yankee,these darker colors have a way of allowing me to get into my fav season of Autumn without the ragweed ofthe Northeast,LOL! So I am fully embracing the new shades of maroons and oragny- reds most recently in the fabulous offerings MAC intheir "Lustre" lipcolors which by the way were sold out at the Nordy's down here and I had to order online!I adore Dior lipcolor and will check out your shade and I NEED one of those "Buxom" lipcolors as well! Not all of us are "clear gloss" kinda' gals and I really appreciate your review...I'm all about those blood-redlips for Fall and look forward to smooching my man while wearing these vamp-y shades! :)
You crack me up Kate! I am glad I am not the only one that is thinking vampire when I see the deep maroon matte lips. Some are going to look fabulous and the rest will look hideous while wearing it. I remember this shade from the mid 90's, and my cousin wore it at her wedding, yikes! Yes, we are melting here, but not like Dallas humid August heat! The trends for fall this year are interesting, and yes, I love the reds. Thanks Kate, the Sugar Glosses sound super.
I love Buxom. I have several of the darker shades, but, what I am loving now, is Brandi. Just the perfect color for me.
I love Be Buxom Lips as well. I had originally used Dolly. But I decided to go a little darker and ordered Gabby. I can't wait to get it.
