PANTINA! DRUGSTORE DEAL THURSDAYS!
Champ3377 here We’re all familiar with the old adage that “It’s a man’s world,” but I beg to differ. Think about it: Men have it tough. When they prepare to go out, they shave, shower, and perhaps use shaving balm and/or cologne. I know very few men who actually adhere to a good skin care routine or spend much time with their hair. On goes the clothing, and they’re out the door. I would make a terrible man.
But we ladies get to play, no matter how old we are. I love color and paint pictures when I’m able. Preparation for an event is half of the fun, as I lay out cosmetics and then keep rearranging my choices (twisted, yes, and so why did I just admit that?). How much do I love color? I was one of the many Americans who watched Monica Lewinsky’s most candid, live interview with Barbara Walters in 1996. Most of what she said was ignored by me--her lipstick was a stunning, gentle rose and I sat with a lap full of tubes, trying to see if I had any to match hers. For shame!
I used to be addicted to all Dior and Chanel items, but I simply had to bid Christian and Coco adieu as I could no longer afford my habit (Chanel No. 5 stays, however). As any good Drugstore Deal reviewer would, I browsed the aisles looking for the cutting-edge products new to our city and ran across Pantina’s “Mineral Face Palette.” Interesting. There are three palettes--“Heavenly Bliss” (earth tones), “Center Stage” (lavenders) and “Earth Angel”--(pinks and greys). Each palette offers three complementary eyeshadows, a powder eyeliner, blush, and bronzer. My experience with inexpensive colors has very often been that the powders are coarse and resist application and blending. The hues were intriguing—everything from deep ivy and rich plum to a subtly shimmering gold and a sultry indigo, reminiscent of a shade Philosophy used to produce. The price? $10.00 for all. Well, losing $10.00 would not kill me, and so I bought . .
.
On the inside of the compact lid, Pantina offers suggestions for use and a diagram as well. I followed the instructions meticulously—and I was radiant. I only deviated by using a shadow base. I like L’Oreal’s “De-Crease” and Ultima II’s “Fade Not, Crease Not” (available online). These powders are surprisingly lush, silky, and ever-so-blendable. The colors merge beautifully. I wouldn’t toss the petite applicator which comes with each kit. It’s unique; half is a sponge and the other a fine hair tool useful in working with the “Crystal Black” eyeliner the palettes contain.
Their philosophy is simple: “Create luxury innovative cosmetics at an affordable price.” They’re doing it! This item is sheer joy, sheer beauty, and sheer genius!
(Oh, by the way, Monica Lewinsky’s makeup artist used a lip liner pencil from “Club Monaco” to both define and fill in her entire pout, followed by lipstick in “Bare.” I need a psychiatrist.)

Very excited about this one Gigi. I'll post a better review later on. But let me just say that I, too, was one of the ones who went crazy over Monica's lip color. I had heard it was a color called "Glaze" by Club Monaco, which I bought, but never looked like the one she wore (guess that's because I had the wrong color! :) but it was pretty in its own right. Not that this is related at all, but I also became obsessed with the lipstick worn by Marion Cotillard at the Oscars this year...had to wait a few months for it to come out, but now its mine and its an Aqualumiere lipstick called Samoa and its a gorgeous rose with gold.
Not sure about the whole Monica debate (I don't really remember the whole Clinton affair ordeal, just that it happened), but I do know that this looks like a FABULOUS buy. I will have to track it down! I'm trying to expand my eyeshadow collection, since I have very few quality eyeshadows. And, since college is not getting any cheaper, cheap beauty alternatives are always wonderful! I have to say, DD Thursdays always give me new stuff to put on my list when I head to the supermarket or the drugstore- thanks, Gigi, for enlightening us all with your deal-ified knowledge.
I'm intrigued by this product and may have to drop a Hamilton to check it out. My sisjust bought smokey/rocker eye kits from Sephora and I'm dying to try a three color combo that's dramatic but not exactly over the top like the others. I'm on it and I'lllet you know how it goes. I've also been on the hunt for YEARS for the perfect red. They say everyone can wear it but so far it just makes my thin upper lip look even thinner. I also LOVED Marion's lips at the Oscars and I'm a huge Edith Piaf fan soher performance just topped off the great lips and FAB dress. I'd give anything tobe a fair skinned, raven haired French beauty! Alas...tis not meant to be. Thanksfor the post Gigi.
Love, hugs and shoes...Angie
oh, Gigi! i didn't mean to call you out! the glaze that i have is NOT the color miss monica was wearing. i think someone duped us all into believing it. i think my coloring is quite similar to hers, and this lipstick comes off purple on me. maybe it needs to be mixed with the pencil? another makeup mystery goes unsolved.
I heard about this brand a couple of years ago because apparently Reese Witherspoon was a fan of one of their palettes. I never saw them in any of the drugstores near me, though, so I forgot about them until a couple of weeks ago when drugstore.com had their bronzing powder on clearance. I figured I'd give it a shot. Now I am as pale as Darth Vader without the helmut, so for a bronzing powder to look good on me, it would take a small miracle, but miraculously, this stuff works for me. It's not the sturdiest powder, the product was pretty much shattered in the compact when it arrived, but it still went on fine. It didn't make me look even the teensiest bit muddy like most bronzers and had a nice, subtle shimmer. Now if only their products were more easily available...
how FUNNY... it was a color called glaze... and it was an AWESOMEpurpleish roseish sheer hue... made my teeh look white & my lips look lush... i was totally aggravated that it became so popular after everyone wanted that lipstick of hers!! hahahathe line has been discontinued... altho i think i have a few leftovers (i horded when i found out they were being discontinued)! and i must say... i love the look of this compact & would totallygive this a try!
You can buy pantina products at your local rite aide... So far that is the only drug store i have seen that sells this line. I bought a few of their palettes and i love them all.....its super cheap for the quality and the amount of make up you get! Pantina is one the best make up lines at drug stores by far!
I was so upset this weekend to find that this was not sold at my local CVS. I looked everywhere for it! I didn't leave empty handed, though...that would have been a travesty!!! I guess I'll have to keep looking :-)
Damn girl...you really DO dig deep to find those treasures in the drugstore! Not sure where to look for thisbut will give Walgreens a try this week,I love that you mention the brush actually might be worth keeping!I also like that it has just a couple of colors in the kit,I make mud-pies when supplied with the 5 Dior and others present,LOL! Great review, per usual! Monica...can't remember much about her looks anymore,LOL! It must have been an impressive lipstick however! I also obsessabout the colors I see on the screen but usually have trouble with duping them.Would kill to know what Angelina uses most of the time. I have found Julie Hewitt and Besame reds to be spectacular as a whole :)
i tried this line for cream eyeshadows and they were great - need to go out and find more now!

You are so right about cheap shadows not being blendable and coarse. However, this Pantina stuff rocks. It's like a pallette you would get at sephora or something. :-)
A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.

Sounds nice and affordable too, but I don't think I have any rite aids near by... I hope it works for the rest of you though... I've been wanting to try loreal decrease but have super oily creases so I kind of doubt that it'll work. :(
That's just too funny!! I, as well, watch news and things to see the makeup and clothes on famous people. (or not so famous!!) I love finding ideas for new ways to wear my makeup. I have nearly every shade in the book so I like to switch it up. I would like to find these palettes but I don't think I have a place near me that sells them. I've never seen them anyway. Oh, yet another cosmetic to keep an eye out for!!

That picture is so pretty!!!!!10 dollars? That's it? Wowie!!!!!!!!! I also study celebrity's makeup, don't worry about it! I also notice people's everyday makeup, looking at what I can copy and what I will never, ever wear. :)
I love palettes that come with instructions, they're just so sweet! That one looks like a lovely set, i really like pink eyeshadows.
this looks awesome! i'm adding it to my list!
This is awesome!
Love the colours on the palette and does reminds me a bit of the Stila palettes!
