STILA AND MARCHESA-SATURDAYS AT SEPHORA!
Hello there, ladies! Katie here, your resident Sephora expert!
I want to share a life ambition of mine with you all: One day, I want to have unlimited amounts of money and wear couture clothing every day, shop at Neiman Marcus and never look at price tags, and pretty much just be the it-woman international. Yes, I prefer Dior over Chanel. Prada over Gucci. Gap over Victoria’s Secret. Wait, no...
Nevertheless, I’ve got a plan! and no I am not going to share THAT with you all lest you try to beat me at my own game. However, I can tell you this: I’ve already got the couture makeup looks down pat! This fall Stila Cosmetics was responsible for the fabulous, and very fresh look on the Marchesa runways (pronounced (mar-case-uh)). Think perfect complexion (is that not ALWAYS in style?), matte but brightened eyes, loads of lashes and stained cheeks. Here’s the step by step (all products mentioned are Stila!)
Firstly, EVERYONE needs the Front Row Look palette available at Sephora (3 shadows and a liner for $40). Perfect complexion with a dab of Natural Finish foundation and the Perfecting Concealer. Then,
Step #1: Apply the lightest shade (bouquet) to entire lid. You want to create an even looking base on the lids—think coloring in layers not sweeping on color.
Step # 2: Apply a mix of bouquet and kamet to the lash line on both top and bottom. Lit it softly melt into a beautiful shade of pinks and grays. Blend well.
Step #3: Apply moonlight with a small brush to highlight inner corner, center of eyelid and under the brow.
Step #4: Take the kajal pencil in smoky quartz and apply 3 dots to lower lash line to crease a soft touch of intensity. Apply brown major lash mascara to the roots of top-lashes only and the ends and lower lashes with LOTS of Black MAJOR MAJOR lash mascara.
Step #5: Finish with stained lips and cheeks with two or three layers of cheeks and lips.
I wore this around for a couple of days this week and it’s amazing that matte shadows can give you such a bright-eyed look—especially when you skip the eyeliner but still abusively pile on black mascara. The great thing is the shadows in this palette work really well on the fairest redheads- to darker complexioned women.

Step 4: Another way to do it is use a soft thin brush and brush some of the eye liner so you get a subtle smudge on the outside third of your lower lashline. You want it to be a whisper. You can also take the Topaz Kajal eyeliner (or your Julie Hewett Conceal pencil) and line the middle third of your upper lashline. Then use a soft brush and smudge the liner up onto the lid. This makes a great contrast for the mascara. Hope that's clearer!

Thanks Kate. That really made it more clear for me.

Loved your review. I am always looking for new ways to light up my eyes. I feel the eyes are the most sexy part of our body. We can say so much without opening our mouth and inserting foot. The right look can get just about any response one wants. Can you explain in a little more detail step 4? I have never put three dots under the lower lashes. Where do you put them and do you smudge them?We finally got a very small Sephora in this town. It is in JCPenney of all places. Now I can finally check out what every raves about.

I've been eyeing this Stila Eye palette, and Katie, this is a beautiful review of it. A perfect complexion is ALWAYS in style, this couture look is fab. Gotta try this!
This is off the subject of the Stila eye palette, but has anyone looked at Versace's fall runway show on which is on her site? A lot of the dresses are cut on the bias and are of a jersey knit I(probably silk or rayon). The models are soooooo skinny to make the dresses look good. A normal person would not look good in those dresses. I thought the Couture houses were going to start having the models have BMI of at least 18. I don't think one who modeled Donatella's collection would have met that requirement. Meg, didn't you say you did some modeling? Were the models as scrawny as they look on some of these runways of the Couture houses? What is the rest of you addicts opinion on these models? Do you miss the Cindy Crawford, Christy Brinkley and Tyra Banks size?

Katie - you really hit it with this review. I tried to resist buying this palette, but in the end... while buying one for daughter, I broke down and bought one for me too. And I adore it! I followed your steps, and it's a great look for me too. So fresh, not overly done. Just perfect! Thanks so much for continuing to educate us!

After reading all of the reviews, I just HAD to buy this for my upcoming wedding on Oct. 4. I think it will be a subtle yet beautiful way to light up my best feature. Thanks for the tips on the application!
Thank you for this review. I can't wait to get to Sephora to see it for myself. Beautiful colors. I am also curious about what stain brand/colors people recommend. I have tried a few, but they seem to dry out my lips. Any suggestions - thanks :)
Thanks Katie for the great post. I'm so boring when it comes to eye makeup. These colors look very nice and I love your application tips. Sephora owes me a birthday gift, so I might have to check this out on my next trip.
I love the packaging... the rose is adorable
I just bought the Runway Look and love it (not a fan of the Stila Kajals--too smudgy for me), but the eyeshadow palette is gorgeous. And now I want to collect them all--you just talked me into this one too! I love the little rose, but am too chicken to wear it.

I haven't yet tried any Stila eyeshadow palettes but I do have several lipsticks and I love them. My fave color is a nude pinkish color. I can't think of the name but it goes on really smooth and lasts quite awhile.

i love the mix between the make up and the couture ...
I bought this kit off of a discount site. I'm not crazy about their kajal liners--they smudge everywhere and I end up looking like a raccoon! The eyeshadow palette is nice and basic. Nothing too flashy. A good product overall.
