OSCAR BLANDI PRONTO! HUMP DAY HAIR DAY!

Tue, 07/01/2008 - 9:43pm
  • Hair

Welcome for her first Hump Day Hair Day!

Katehrm777 here, to hopefully share some of my hair wisdom that a lifetime of varying hair disasters has provided.

Children can be extremely cruel sometimes. As a wee young lass, I had ringlet curls that with age turned increasingly into an enormous puff ball that could not be tamed. Hairdressers swore they had never seen such texture before and had no idea how to work with it. My mother could not even figure out how to get it into a ponytail. My friends often commented that I looked like a lion. But nothing compared to the trauma that would ensure on the last day of school of sixth grade.

I had ordered a brand spanking new blue vinyl skirt and vest set from the American Girl catalogue (why? That is not relevant to this story and thus I do not have to answer for my horrifying sixth grade fashion sense). I wanted to wear it on the last day of school and I waited anxiously for it to arrive. It finally arrived and I went to school full of pride and happiness in my "cute" new outfit. Then on the bus ride home my brother's friend announced to the entire bus that I looked like an enormous blue condom with pubic hair coming out of the top. My hair was never to be worn curly again (nor was the blue vinyl outfit). That summer I found my first flat iron, got my hair chemically relaxed and my hair has not been seen au natural in public since.

However getting my hair straight involves a several hour long process of protein and condition treatments, blow drying and flat ironing so I try to wash my hair as little as possible. However I also love the look of freshly washed, clean hair. What's a girl to do? Enter Oscar Blandi Pronto dry shampoo!

Here's what Oscar Blandi has to say about Pronto:
"This hair reviver is a busy girl's best friend: it refreshes your hair and scalp in between washings, so you can touch up your tresses without the use of water."

I simply apply a little bit of Pronto to my roots by parting my hair in several locations and then shake it through the rest of my hair and my hair looks just washed! As an added bonus, for those of us who are not exactly natural blondes, Pronto helps to minimize appearance of dark roots in between colors. And despite the white color of the powder, it works on the darkest of brunettes as well.

So ladies tell me..Has Pronto let anyone else go 2, 4, (gasp) 7 days between washes? Was anyone else permanently traumatized as a child into the beauty choices they make today?

I sure hope you got BACK at that guy??? What a beast...I bought this a few weeks ago out of pure desperation and really like it once a week or so! My hair startsto fade as I strut out the the salon after a fresh-touchup so with as many hours as I try to put in at the gym(and you'd think I'd be a true Goddess by now...NOT! HA!)combined with the fact that I SWEAT when I am theremakes for a hair-emergency some days when I need to make a stop after class and simply can't bear to plunkon a ball-cap another day.It does fluff and freshen my hair and the smell is quite nice although strong...itcan be a bit challenging to put on,usually I just turn my sweaty-head upside down and sprinkle it on then tosswith my hands and voila,I can "get by" for a few more hours between those hair-washes! It's the only dry-shampooI have tried but it is effective and I think worth having on hand, thansk for the stellar review!

I've seen this in the Sephora catalog and I've been dying to try. I have extremely dry coarse hair (my sister saysit has the consistency of straw...lovely). Its so dry I can't wash it everyday and can't emotionally go through theblow drying so I need something like this. Up until I was in 8th grade, I had long (down to my butt) blonde verystraight hair which my mother forbade me to cut...until 8th grade. When 8th grade came (along with my entrance into highschool...small town, 8th grade was in the highschool, anyways...) my mom took me, along with my BFF Greenie to herlong time hairdresser. Said hairdresser said I could use a little cut and proceded to flip my head over so noone couldreally tell what she was doing. When I flipped back up, I had extremely layered, frizzy shoulder lenght hair. It was so horrifying ugly we all proceded to cry (well my mother was crying and swearing at her now ex-hairdresser). Myhair almost instantly turned brown and I swear has never ever been the same since that day. It turned color, texture, everything about it completely changed. It was untamely for a good 3 years. By senior year it looked OK for the early90's, but uugh, what a horrifying hair experience!

I've used it, and I think it works great. We flew from Philly to Melbourne, Australia in March, and, as a clean freak who can't stand to go more than 24 hours without a shower, this was a lifesaver. It did take a bit of effort to brush the stuff out of my dark brown hair, but it was worth it to feel clean. The only down side was that it seemed to run out fairly quickly.

oh this is good stuff! it does carry you over until you have time to wash your hair. it adds body even if your hair isn't a little oily. and it helps with that root grow out. oh did i mention it smells really good. i have the dry powder and the dry hairspray-both are really great products! carol b

Is anyone noticing their hair falling out from using this product? My sister turned me on to Pronto several months ago and loved it and have used it every week. I can't help to wonder if there is an ingredient that causes the follical to die I hate to give it up if it isn't causing the hair loss.

As an FYI to the dark haired ladies who find their hair looks ashy after pronto, my black haired friend who swears by it uses a blow drier after placing it in her hair for a minute or two and she says it distributes it evenly and gets rid of any ashy or chalkyness. Also I know bumble and bumble makes a dry shampoo in colors specifically for brunettes. Hope this helps!

No shame in the American Girl catalog. But boy, Kate, you really did grow up in the O.C. because I'm pretty sure I didn't know what a condom was until about the 7th or 8th grade. And I probably never actually saw a real one till well into high school...haha. But anyhow, the Oscar Blandi dry shampoo is great in a pinch. I can't deal with washing my thick, sometimes coarse hair every day because it gets way too dried out. Plus I'm sort of lazy about it so I will often go 3 or 4 days between washes. This is great for just soaking up a little grease in the roots to make it through at least one more day wash-free!

okay i don't have problems with my hair quite like that. thankfullly its been fairly okay with my current hair regime which has pumped up the volume of my poor straight hair. But my current hair regime is not easy, i don't use ready made shampoo but instead make my own little natural concoction. This is usually very time consuming, but the look of freshly washed and blown out hair without my hair actually being blown out is so perfect. Anyways, yes I for one have gone *gasp* 4 days without washing my hair. I did do a little water wash on the third day so maybe thats cheating. I've been looking for my perfect dry shampoo but i have black hair not blond and this may not be the one. I willl have to try this.

Congrats on your first review! I can relate to cruel, cruel school bus boys (then again...who can't) and I hope hegrew up a fat, useless, barc-o-lounging, beer guzzling creaton! I have (currently...could change any time) dark brown and naturally curly hair that demands I NOT wash it much. Excessive washing causes my frizzies. If I reallyneed to go an extra day I'll warm water rinse it but I don't have oily hair (actually the opposite...I drench my hairin overnight conditioning treatments and wake up the next morning having found my hair soaked up EVERYTHING!). ButI do occasionally want a little fresher feeling at my roots. Maybe I'll try this the next time I head back to the blonde spectrum. Congrats again and GOD BLESS you for sharing such a horrific story. We're ALL here with you!

Love, hugs and shoes...Angie

this is the only dry shampoo i've ever tried, so i can't compare it to anything, but i think it works great. i also have dark hair, but i've found if i just brush and brush and brush (and brush and brush...) it distributes well and it doesn't look ashy. that said, as someone who religiously washed her hair every day for her whole life, i still feel self conscious about skipping a day so i usually wear my hair in a ponytail anyways on my in-between days. great first post kate! sorry to hear about the bus trauma, we've all been there! if anyone wants to read about a beauty disaster related to this product, check out my profile (not the fault of the product in any way, purely my own stupidity).

What great timing! I usually don't have much to offer because I haven't used or many times even heard of things reviewed here, but I just bought this last weekend! I have dry, wavy hair that I straighten and I like to go at least every other day without washing. But, seeing as I work in a hospital it seems nasty to not do anything to my hair after a day at work. I bought the spray version of this and so far I love it! It is definitely not equivalent to a wash and blow dry but it definitely lets me skip that washing in between two 12-hour shifts. It leaves my hair fresh, lovely smelling and even adds back a little body that is lost when you're running around a hospital all day. I have fairly light blonde hair so I don't notice any "ashy" look. Maybe the spray version would work out better for dark haired girls?

Oh the American Girl catalogue... all those clothes seemed so cool at the time-- I remember!! But anyway, I have never tried this product, as I've always just used baby powder on my hair to soak up excess oil. The best way I've found of keeping the ashy look from happening is to apply powder before bedtime. It settles in your hair more and soaks up oil your scalp produces during the night so in the morning you wake up with not so greasy hair. Still, I've never used this tactic for more than one extra day of not washing my hair.

I wish this stuff worked for me, but it just doesn't do much for my oily hair. I have really dark brown hair and it gives me an ashy look. After awhile, it will blend totally in, but not great for using and then leaving the house immediately. I wanted it to be my miracle product so I could skip a day washing or even freshen up the locks at the end of the day, but it just didn't provide me with the great results I was looking for. So in my experience, if you have really dark hair or very oily hair, this might not be the miracle product for you. I can see how it could work wonders on other people and I so wish I was one of those people. It does smell divine...like yummy fresh picked lemons!

I have super curly hair that I usually straighten. To keep from this pain on daily basis, I only wash my hair every other day. On that every other day, when the humidity is kicking my hair starts looking a little neglected. I've tried baby powder but the smell is a little distracting to me and the damn powder gets all over my bathroom. I was really looking forward to trying out this product after reading everyone's reviews. I ordered a small bottle from Sephora and tested it out on day-old hair. The spray-powder-like consistency is a little ashy, even on my blond hair but it did blend well with some work. I made the mistake of only spraying it on my visible roots and left a lot of the stuff in the middle untouched. That only made my do lay flat, but the visible portions looked brand new. Taking what I learned I went to test it out for day two and the can wouldn't spray! I'm pretty frustrated... I don't think the can is clogged it's just broken. (Can that happen?) Either way, the product seemed really promising but a word to the dark-haired gals out there, it might be too ashy for you.

Hello Gorgeous Gals!I have to chime in with txtipster here and say that for us dark haired beauties, the Oscar Blandi Dry Shampoo is not the "Grand Solution" that I was hoping (praying) for. It does turn out kind of ashy on my hair and although I could get out of the house with it, I still didn't think my hair looked any better than it did without it. Blondes have the advantage with this product, I do believe. I would only recommend this to a blonde friend.

i am so behind on this, but i LOVE this stuff and actually just recently ran out and i'm all twitchy.  i wash my hair every day, but by the end of the day my hair has absorbed all kinds of smells and is lifeless and flat.  i rub a little of this between my hands, run through my hair and it is an instant pick me up in ever way.  and it does smell yummy, like fresh lemons.  five stars from moi.
