I'M A LURKER! YOU'RE A LURKER! COME ON OUT GLADYS KRAVITZ!!

Wed, 06/18/2008 - 1:59am
  • Miscellaneous

Meg here, real quick. Gladys Kravitz why wont you join our discussion? We get so many individual women that come here a day and they "Lurk."

I'm Meg, it's my site and I'm a lurker. I read your profiles and comments and reviews and find them fascinating. I'm just wondering why we have so many devoted and loyal and fabulous women who visit but you don't comment. You don't throw in your story and I hate that!!!

Why pay for a shrink when you have the smartest, kindest and best support system around with ladies that enjoy not only makeup but laughing with each other? We're not a dating site (but if you know someone~email me) we're a women's site. I've made some of my best girlfriends through megsmakeup.com and just want to you to have the same experience!

I've just been "Lurking" around on the new writer's comments and my heart is full, they're all encouraging and full of praise and Real! No BS! No looking for a raise, or a connection or a favor! (Maybe I've been in LA too long).

So Lurkers, stick yourself out there! Are you really afraid of meeting cool, new women that share a base interest of fantastic beauty products but can still hash about guys, life and goals?

Think of us as a favorite hobby or sports team! Lurkers please introduce yourselves~Life is too short !

Well, you got me! I definitely a lurker, mostly because I can't contribute all that much. I am a 49 yr old nurse who has taken off the last 2 and 1/2 years to watch my grandson while my daughter was stationed in Iraq. She is home now so I should get back to work. I LOVE reading your reviews and comments. I find all of you very funny, eloquent and knowledgable in all areas beautiful and I must say, you have all cost me quite alot of mula because I have to try EVERYTHING! Thanks for all your tips and such. Suzi

Pammy that was beautiful! You're so right, no amount of concealer can help if you're ugly on the inside! I'm so happy that we have some new voices chiming in. Life can be hard enough, it's so uplifting to get an encouraging word~That's usually enough to turn the day around and up! Thanks to the newbies! I'm proud you ladies felt like this was a cozy enough environment to chime in on. I can't wait being let into your lives and hearing more about you! Big hugs and kisses!!! Meg

Thanks Shelley. I actually use Mineral Veil and Love it. But I am somewhat embarrassed to say that I never once thought about dipping a concealer brush in it and targeting a specific spot of acne. What a great idea! I will give it a whirl.

Well, I used to not be such a lurker. But the last few months I've fallen into the bad habit. But Meg, your post inspired me to come back out of my shell and stop lurking! Go look- I even posted on the Nundies review before I wrote this! Yay! It's good to be back. :)

I just realized that I too will bypass cleaning and moving dust here to there for some good Gladys Kravitz binoculars! Oh, to be a fly on the wall of life. I like reading the many different backgrounds and gleaning pearls of wisdom while I peruse the site..It’s fun and stimulating to relate to people you have never even seen in person and most likely will not have the pleasure of making an acquaintance. But, I think writing is so powerful and can do such wonders..Words can lift you out of the dregs of life.. bring a smile to your face and make you feel truly good about yourself-especially when you are making someone else feel whole inside. ..I am forever impressed with so many that visit this site for reasons that go beyond the so called shallow surface of makeup. I am beyond grateful for all the incredible beauty products available to us and use them constantly.. But I really don’t want to ever forget who I am inside. I want to really be beautiful on the inside too. i think it's far more valuable than just looking good on the outside. Trust me on this, you are beautiful and it shows in your writing. I love the talent I see in the younger gals too.. and the constant desire to be more aware of what’s going on around them. Keep the pens moving! Remember, words can breathe life into a weary soul and then again they can be so cunning and destructive that some are never the same again.. I hope that all will enjoy being a blessing to others instead of not.. I encourage everyone to be that switch- to make a difference in life.

Thanks Meg! This post was made for me. I am in general a total lurker. I love this site and the ladies on here but I often feel like an outsider or that I have nothing valuable to contribute. It must be post traumatic stress from high school. But let me introduce myself. I am 31 and this year will be married for 10 years. I have no children yet. I live near Cleveland, Ohio. I just graduated with my BA in History and Sociology. I am now working on my MA to teach History. I love politics. My husband and I have been working on the Obama campaign. We recently got to meet him. Yeah! I also love books, movies, music, and of course beauty! I can't always buy expensive beauty products. Unfortunately many of the products on the site are too expensive for me. So that is another reason why I feel as if I can't comment on them. I also sometimes wish that there was a message board format here. I would love to be able to ask more questions of the incredibly knowledgeable women here. For example: I am desperate to find the best concealer for acne. or What is the best way to control my oily skin? All this being said, I love..love this site! It is fun and informative. Based on reviews here I have took the plunge and bought some very worthwhile and expensive products. I hope that one day I can hang out with the cool kids. But until then I will keep lurking the halls and speak up when I work up the courage!

I’ve just developed an earworm of Billie Burke singing “Come out. Come out where ever you are...” And just look at all of you de-lurkified women!! It’s good to see you. And VERY good to see Pamelairene’s pearls of truthiness. BTW - Let’s just say I’ve gone beyond dust-bunnies and right into things the size of a small pig. It at a point where I feel compelled to clean my house BEFORE I hire someone to clean. So I’m procrastinating by surfing Megs :)

Great post, Meg - nice way to make everyone feel welcome! I was a lurker for years until I found this website. First night on here (well within the first week) I felt comfortable for the first time ever on a site speaking up, and I would say it's mostly b/c of the way you make yourself so "human" to us. You're funny and witty and that can be intimidating - but you're also quick to point out your flaws and that relates to all of us - so thanks =^)) By the way, 12 years ago I was in not one but two accidents (one a car, the other a motorcycle) separated from eachother by only 1 month, and was not wearing underwear in either of them! The first thing I said when I came to during the 2nd one (on the ground opened my eyes to about 5 firemen surrounding me - 2 of which were there the month before!) was "omg, I'm not wearing underwear...again!"

And in those few short days I'm met so many lovely gals who are truly nice and genuine people...AND they love beauty stuff! In person, I can be pretty quiet and to be honest, I've lurked on many a blog/message board/whatevs. This is the first time I crawled out of my shell and I am SO glad I did. And I assure everyone, I am not, nor will I ever be, one of the cool kids. If nothing else, come sit at the Mathlete table with me (yes, I was actually a mathlete in high school...and only because it got me out of field hockey practice).

Talk about a wide range of emotions! I am beyond flattered. More like taken aback; but in a good way, I might add. Thank you for each sweet and overly kind sentiment that was laced with goodwill. Can I just say, I have never in all my life (and I am older than most of you whippersnappers) had a flurry of wonderful compliments tossed my way. I see I have somehow struck a charming chord or note with some of my newfound friends. Whether we like it or not, we are some how a close-knit bunch, linked to each other more than we might recognize. Ms. Gigi has become a fricken soul sister over night.. How did that happen? I call it, providence.. It is remarkable, because some are located on opposite ends of this great county. We all need a big dose of these real human touch connections in our life. I dare say that this is a universal platform for everyone that wants to jumps on for the ride! I will always do my best to put into words the things that really matter in life, coupled with a bit of Irish and Italian sarcasm to make it easy to take in. I know, I can be a bit serious or ridiculous at times, but I will strive to be aware of the various needs of the moment, especially when it comes to the more serious matters of the heart and soul. If I am able to drill anything home to you, it is that YOU are all precious, very precious. I know that this life can be hard and unfair in many ways, but when you realize that you as a person really do matter a great deal and have great worth, that you are all unique individuals blessed with talents and gifts of your very own, I’ll be glad that I spent the time writing and feel quite content! Thinking on such truths is an important exercise and when you let it sink in to your head (being), It sure helps matters for the better! Don’t you agree, that there is something that happens within, especially when you may feel awful too, that is so fulfilling because you’ve reached out beyond yourself to help someone else in need. - Yes, it is a delicate balance of just what to say, but worth it when done with loads love and care. So, here is to a new fresh beginning for some and a bright future too. Let it be a beautiful one, for all of you. I’m glad that you are so receptive and remain open to my words of edification! xoxoxox Pamelairene

Hey Meg. I guess I'm kind of a lurker, too. I'm not sure where to comment other than on a review if I see fit. I've left a few comments on reviews before and I've had a couple comments on my profile page, but I'm not sure how you get a repore (sp?) going....maybe a message board is more appropriate? Anyway, your writers get lots of great feedback, but how do your readers hearts get all "warm and fuzzy?" You know, a way for the writer to respond to a comment? Just putting it out there.Kelle76....the best concealer for acne is hands down Bare Minerals Mineral Veil. It covers everything! Just dip the brush in and dot it on your blemish. It is magic!

Wow! You girls are my cup of tea! I too am a "lurker"! In fact, my crew, (husband, 5yr. old, and 3yr. old) just left to go to the BMX track and I stayed behind to get some serious house cleaning done! But then, alas, on the way to get the vacuum, I heard my Meg's make-up mavens beckoning me. And here I am. House work, Schmouse work! I can live with a little dirt! What I can't live without is this site and all you experts! What a melting pot of beauty! I am the quintessential wall-flower. On the surface I may look like I have it together, but underneath, I'm still that anxious elementary kid who never really looked like everyone else, therefore never really fit in. (I'm asian-american, Dad's white and mom's Korean.) I still have issues! You know, like when you spot someone you know at the store and you purposefully head the other way just so you can avoid having to have a conversation?! Not because you're busy or stuck-up, but because you cringe at the thought of having to come up with anything intelligent to say! I'm always thinking, " Do I sound like a blubbering idiot?!". I am however trying to work on this among other things. Some other downfalls: I'm a horrible phone friend! Very bad at returning calls, and the fact that I don't really like talking on the phone doesn't help. I'd rather meet in person to chat, or just chat with all my girlfriends here at Meg's make-up! I don't text, and I have been known to be "brutally honest." On the upside of that, you can pretty much be sure that I'll tell you the truth, even if it hurts, (ouch),and I am a very good listener and loyal friend. I've been married to my highschool sweetheart for 11 years, but we've been together for 16 years. (Yikes! I feel old!) But thanks to Meg's Make-up I don't look it! Whoo -hoo! I'm constantly scrutinizing my face, mostly my acne(yuk!) And, yes I am a picker! If I see something, zit, whitehead, or blackhead, I will watch it like a hawk, and then at the right moment, (not prematurely of course!) I will pounce and attack! At 32, I'm still breaking out! It's insane! I love to go camping, in no less than our travel trailer, and I just got a dirt bike so I am working on being a better rider! Remember, I'm still that awkward little girl who still does not have an ounce of coordination! So, it will take some time, but one day I will enter my first race and kick butt! We do enduro racing which is in the woods and my friend finished her first race and we were so psyched that she got second, totally oblivious of the fact that there were only two people in her class! Heehee. It's all good. Ahh, well alas, now my vacuum cleaner is beckoning me. Until next time, stay primping!

Come out, come out, wherever you are! Lurkers are some of the most wonderful folks on the internet, I've found. For example: I was once on a message board when a girl messaged me, saying she was a "lurker" on my thread. I got to talking with her, and soon we became fast friends. Oh, the ideas that girl had in her head! They were fascinating, marvelous, wonderful ideas, things I could have never thought of. I've found that lurkers tend to "listen" (or read) more closely than those of us that are rushing to reply- but that's what makes it so frustrating! They're so good at listening and they come up with such wonderful ideas, it's a shame that we don't get to hear them! Come on now, gals- there's nothing like a fresh set of eyes and a new brain to show someone a different perspective. Speak up! I want to hear what you have to say! WE want to hear what you have to say, I'm sure!

I wanted to take a minute to thank Pammy for her beautifully eloquent post about the power of writing. I completely agree and adore the fact that other women like myself can see the effects that words (good and bad) can have on uplifting women. It's sites like this, and people like you, who encourage the inner and outer beauty of women around you. I truly believe that we will never fully grow into our potential as females until we stop judging and tearing each other down. Women are not our competition...they are our allies!!!! I love you all....GLAM ON!!!

Oh Meg! I am absolutely DYING over this post. I was thinking this EXACT same thing the other day. In an effortto gain exposure for the website I've been hitting up EVERYONE I know (and their contacts as well) to let them knowabout this fabulous forum and to hopefully read my first Green Chi Tuesday's column when I get it out. I feel it'smy duty to spread the word since you are giving me such a great opportunity to be heard. Anyway, I am constantlysurprised by the number of people who log on, check it out, love it and then DON'T sign up or join in on the fun. Ithink they are missing out on a truly wonderful, devoted, and supportive sisterhood. So it is basically my missionin life to keep promoting the site and to write Green Chi posts that are funny, informative, and entertaining in thehopes that we'll get more megs converts! Just a thought...maybe we could start a way to be able to search members easier. Some of the people I've managed to sign up have a hard time finding me (and those like me) to add as friends. They had to find a comment or review to be able to click on me and add from there. If there's an easy way to searchfor members I think that would help connect people. I know NOTHING about making websites work but its a thought. Anyway, JOIN IN THE FUN all of you lurkers...we're really a great group of gals and worth gettting to know! GLAM ON megsmakeup gals!!!!

I could kick myself for not giving credit at first to the main reason why I came out of my shell on this site - but now I am. Brand new newbies probably don't know her b/c she's had alot going on lately and hasn't been around the site too much, but there is an extraordinarily beautiful woman- inside and out - that first welcomed me here, and her name is TASHAGOGO!! Tasha would peruse the newest members link, go on each and every new member's profile page and send a beautiful and personalized welcome to the family message to that person! Such an amazing lady - and lord knows how many member's coming out of their shell are directly attributed to Tasha! So, a huge THANK YOU to Tasha and an even bigger I MISS YOU!!
