BEST OF SEPHORA 2008! SATURDAYS AT SEPHORA!
Every Saturday, Kate brings you the best of Sephora as only an insider can!
We'll its all over and I'm finally done. I took my last final about four hours ago. I had brunch with my best friend and our favorite professor. I finished college! It's a little sad. But I am on to bigger and better things. I'm going to take over the world, one lip gloss lover at a time! So I'm very sorry about my absenteeism the last couple weeks. I just had to get all my ducks in a row. Finish and defend my thesis. Take my exams. Pack up my stuff. (Where does it all COME FROM?) So I've barely even had time to surf the internet (that's a lie...). But they have some super fun new stuff for summer at Sephora. AND voting has also begun for the 2008 Best of Sephora awards!
I am really pleased to see that they have really changed up the nominees this year instead of the same old products. I have a feeling maybe we'll have some surprise winners this year...I guess we'll have to wait until a little later in the year to find out. But here's some of the interesting ones!
Best Concealers: Makeup Forever Full Cover, The Balm TimeBalm, Bare Escentuals Bisque, Benefit Boi-ing, and Amazing Concealer. The TimeBalm is my personal favorite, but I've never tried that Makeup Forever one. I hear its good. Im not fans of B.E. or Amazing anyhow. Go Time Balm!
Also in the Foundation category I was surprised to see the Dior AirFlash aerosol spray among Bare Escentuals (duh), Makeup Forever Mat Velvet, Philosophy the Supernatural and Smashbox High Definition. I have a can of the DiorFlash. I use it sparingly because its $60. But it gives the most amazing, airbrush finish. You skin looks so flawless!
I've also had a change of heart in Primers in the past year. I was of course a devotee of the oldie-but-goodie Smashbox Photofinish, but then I fell in love with Laura Mercier (not a nominee). But late in the year Laura Gellar Spackle has come to be my favorite. It just makes your makeup STAY! Its awesome! I can leave out the yucky fake-raspberry scent of Benefit's "That Gal" And the "oil slick" feel of Perfekt. I vote for Laura Gellar!
The Tress Tamer category is interesting as well because they have three prodcuts (Fekkai Glossing Cream, Phytodefristant, and Ojon Elastic Spray) against appliances -- the GHD iron and the T3 hairdryer. I don't really understand why the lumped them all together. I'm loyal to my Fekkai Glossing Cream but the Phytodefrisant is a relatively recent acquisition. It's a natural product and it has really made my hair sleeker!
Ladies, go forth, explore the categories, and let's have a not-so-secret ballot box here!

You're right IFW. Terrymill, not all the stores carry the Laura Gellar line. (They should, thought!). Order it online and if you don't like it you can return in by mail or in your local sephora store and exchange it. Thought that won't be necessary because that spackle rocks!

I need to go shopping, I have a $100 gift card to Sephora, I'll try everything and report back later!
ok i have to get in on this one. i love fekkai glossing cream. i always buy the travel size because i think it stinks after awhile. it almost seems to go bad. but until then its awesome. i love his hairspray it has a great scent. i am a be addict. love benefit's lemondade, timebalm and amazing concealer.sugar and nars for bronzer. i have tried all those primers. i think i will give laura gellar a try. it seems like my face just sucks up makeup and it disappears. i should just sign over my paycheck to sephora every month! carol b
Congratulations!! What a relief it must be to have your undergrad stuff behind you. Thanks for your posts (we really miss them when you're busy studying). Interesting choices in the Best of Sephora. I am mostly a BE'er but based on your recommendations, I do occasionally stray over to The Balm and the Laura's. And I've not been disappointed!

I'm not a fan of The Balm, mostly because their shades are always too orange for my skin tone. I like the Mat Velvet foundation by Make Up For Ever; and I loooove the Urban Decay eyeliners and the Diorshow mascara.
Katerock, congratulations! You must feel great and it sounds like (with all the stresses) that you've had a nice fewweeks. On to amazing things for you! I think there are a lot of interesting choices above and I have to say I haven'ttried a lot of them. I am a BE devotee, but I'm not 100% loyal so I'm always open to trying new things. The Wash andWear sounds very intriguing. One thing I agree with for sure is Benefits That Gal isn't so great. It actuallymade me feel really greasy. Unfortunately, it was returned after one use.
There is something about a product that sounds like it should be applied with a putty knife and a toolbelt accessorizing your outfit. TerryMill - I do feel your pain. I'm always sad when I FINALLY reach a town big enough to HAVE a Sephora to realize they don't stock the line I'm coveting. But hey! I think you can order on line & if Spackle doesn't get you all plastered with joy, you should be able to take it to the local store. Is that right, KateRock??
I went to my Sephora and they didn't carry the Laura Geller line. I am disappointed. I wanted to try their spackle.
Congrats Kate on finishing up your undergrad work. I remember that feeling of relief and sense of accomplishment when I finished up my last exam. I am a BE devotee for foundation, but I am going to try out the TimeBalm the next time I am at Sephora. I've also been wanting to try the Fekkai glossing cream - thanks for the tip on the smaller size. I voted for Nars in the lipstick, gloss, and blush categories (how's that for brand consistency?). Also, my "cult fav" was the UD eyeshadow primer and Juice Beauty Green Apple Moisturizer SPF 15 in the Natural category. Also, last time I was in Sephora, I tested out the new vera wang fragrance. I think it might become my new "summer scent". I am pretty sure that I saw a purse size bottle, since I rarely stay loyal to a particular scent.
Congrats on the graduation!! I'm sure Ol' Miss will never be the same! xxoo
Congrats Kate and so good to have you back at Megs! I am a big fan of The Balm's concealer, but have found myself reaching for Becca's Compact Concealer more and more, it gives wonderful, flawless coverage! My favorite primer is still that dreadfully expensive Perricone Ceramic Skin, but I do very much like Laura M and G's. IFW: yes, I second your recommendation for Laura Geller's Blush and Brighten! Before I close, let me dedicate this comment to my favorite of all time foundation/tinted moisturizer...tarte's smooth operator! I just ordered more recently and fell in love with it all over again!
Congratulations Kate! You must be under the gun, because you didn’t mention any of the Caudalie that was on the list. I, too, voted for the TimeBalm concealer... it even makes the bruises that have set up retirement under my eyes look like they’re ready for something other than a nap. It was a toss-up between the Tarte Cheek Stain or Laura Geller Blush & Brighten... Call me Sophie, because I may be haunted by my decision (LG) for the rest of my life. Finally, I have to give loud golf claps to the Bliss Lemon-Sage Soapy Sap... It is a Farmer Tom tested and highly-approved product. Besides, it makes snuggling up to him a bit sweeter and spicer.
Congratulations Miss Katerock! You’re posts sounds so awesome and bittersweet - what a nice moment in life to be experiencing! I’m sure you will accomplish world domination via lip-glosses very soon. I’m throwing another vote in for The Balms Time Balm concealer as well as their Balm Shelter tinted moisturizer for Best of 08. I voted for a lot of Nars and Smashbox items in the Make up sections - and I saw a very interesting item under Hair - Frederic Fekkai Summer Hair Wash & Wear - Anyone try this? I love almost every FF hair product and I’m tempted to buy it.
I always buy the travel size too - it does take like a decade to use a bigger tube!

Ok, I've never tried the Wash and Wear either. I use the Fekkai Beach Waves all the time...it smells so good too! I had a really hard time deciding between Urban Decay and Makeup Forever in the eyeliner category but I think I ended up settling for Makeup Forever. I don't know why. Sort of an eeny-meeny miny mo thing. I really amd perfectly on the fence. But definitely Nars in the eyeshadow category. And I O-Gloss for the lipgloss category.

ruthie-- oh no! I bought Fekkai glossing cream a few months ago in the larger size... I shouldn't have, b/c a little goes a long way. And if it goes bad... :-/ wonder if I can exchange it to Ulta? w/o a receipt??.... :-/I cannot stand Photofinish--breaks out my oily acne prone skin. :( Will definitely have to try the Spackle... does it have silcones in it? (Dimethicone?)I don't care for mineral makeup either, esp not Bare Escentuals (made my face itch) but am really excited for the other concealers! I need a good one that won't crease.
♥ Lipgloss and Spandex: a blog for gals who look good and run fast
i loveee Philosophy lines its amazing
DIORFLASH IS AMAZING!!! I also use it sparingly because of its price tag. It came in super handy when i was in a wedding it makes my skin flawless.
Gragh, we used to have Sephora here in England but it left us and now won't even ship to me :(
I love Sephora! They're rather pricey but offer the best of the best makeup! I'm glad to know they now offer Sephora at JC Penny's!
