MONDAYS WITH MEG! AQUIS MICROFIBER HAIR TOWEL!

Sun, 05/04/2008 - 10:53pm
  • Hair

Meg here to ask a simple question. How many of us do the hair in the turban out of the shower and keep it on while we apply our make-up? I do this every morning an apparently, this is bad. The weight of the towel causes lots of breakage around the roots and causes all those super short hairs you get around your hairline.

I'm not going to sit here and try to tell you that I've stopped my turban wearing ways. I like the turban to hel dry out the hair but the real reason is I like to be able to put my face on (my morning makeup) with a clean canvass. No stray hairs getting in the way while trying to even out the foundation.

Since I'm not ready to retire my turban wearing ways, I have found a towel that will do a lot less damage to my hair. It helps dry it so quickly it counts down on the time it's sitting on my scalp.

Also, I have really, really thin hair. The weird thing is AND MANY hairdressers have comented to me that..."It takes forever to dry your hair! My Aquis Microfiber hair towel really saves me time getting ready. I have total ADD with my hair~ there are few things as boring to me as spending tons of time drying it. I find this towel really works and wanted to recommend it to any women looking to get out of her house faster or any women with thick hair!
Ollibee are you reading this!?

Any how I really love my pink Aquis towel and am never going back to terry! Here's what Aquis says "Gentleness is of the essence when caring for your hair. And because your time is invaluable, an innovation that minimizes the day's demands is an indulgence. Made with fibers finer than silk, the Aquis® Essentials Hair Towel is remarkably light, soft to the touch, and pampering of hair and body. It absorbs moisture more quickly and thoroughly than ordinary cotton towels, dramatically reducing the time to blow dry your hair. The hair towel also wraps easily into a turban and is comfortably light. Effective, pampering, advanced."

Any other Aquis towel lovers out there? How do you cut your drying time in half?

I totally agree with you, Meg. I've used the Aquis towel for years and love it. I have very curly hair and learned a few years ago that I was not helping matters with my previous method of roughly scrambling my hair and then wrapping a terry towel turban. Frizz Alert!!!But this towel gets the sopping wet mess under control super quick without damaging my hair. But I've never seen it in pink before -- I want one!

How did I ever get through life before discovering this magical, little marvel??? I have about 2 acres of heavily highlighted, waist length hair, which is as porous as can be, and sops up water like a sponge. It used to take me an hour to blow dry all of it , but when I use the Aquis towel, it literally cuts that time in half. Aquis also makes a fantastic microfiber turban with a genius button closure that I love. My hair drying method is to pat and squeeze the entire length of my hair with the large towel for about 3 minutes, then I wrap it in the turban while I lotion my body, and apply makeup. The reason I do this, is because my hairis too heavy to stay wrapped up in the towel without coming undone. Once my makeup's complete, it takes me 20 or 30 minutes, tops, to get my hair bone dry and styled. Aquis also makes some other products that I just can't live without. Their exfoliating face and body mitt works better than any scrub I've ever used, andI keep one by the sink for my face, and have one by the shower for the rest of me. They also have a microfiber headband that I love...I use it for when I removemakeup and wash my face at night, or for when I'm applying makeup and don't have my hair in the turban. The best news of all? Right now, drugstore.com is having a30% off sale on all their Aquis products! So if you're looking to purchase one fo these awesome towels (including the pink one that Meg reviewed), now is a great time! :)

I want one of these badly from these excellent reviews! One question I can't find the answer to on the website: how do you wash the towel, ie, can it be bleached? I freak out if I can't bleach my towels and sheets! Thanks, girls...

I have also had mine for years...so many that I'm embarrassed to say because it's sooo old. I will say that this towel has held up fantastically well. It's not quite as white as it used to be, but it still works great. I even take mine with me when I travel. I really hate to be without it. Now that I know they have one in pink, I might just have to treat myself to a new one.

I've had this towel for a while and I adore the tiny little piece of water sucking perfection! I have just past theshoulders curly hair and had a terrible time with frizz. Did some research and learned about the benefits of a micro-fiber towel. I get out of the shower with sopping wet hair. I very gently squeeze out what would be running down myface but still leave it quite wet. I immediately create a concoction in my palm of leave in conditioner, curl enhancerand some kind of smoothing treatment (like Biosilk, DHC, or Rusk) to help my dry hair appear smooth and frizz free.I flip my head over and scrunch that into my hair (being careful not to disrupt the natural curl formation) and then immediately wrap my head in the towel with the product in it. This helps my hair really take to the product and itdries as its absorbing the conditioning. About 15 minutes later I take off the towel, hand arrange my curls in placeand scrunch a little more. I DO NOT touch the curls at this point until it is completely dry then I lightly separate with a wide tooth comb in areas that I need it. This keeps my curls in control, frizz free and conditioned. Thetowel is key in this as I've found nothing else works the same. I am ashamed to admit I have 4 of them because I washthem all the time. Since I put it on with product in my hair I am compelled to wash it each time! But seriously,if you are trying to tame dry, curly hair...this is the way to do it!

Love, hugs and shoes...Angie

I LOVE this towel! Been using it for about a month now and it is awesome. It's the perfect size to wrap around the hair and hold it in without weighing down and sliding off. My hair does dry faster when I take the towel off (usually after makeup application and dressing are done). Hair also seems less frizzy, but I don't know if that's from the towel or just my products? I completely forgot to try sweetassgal's conditioning techniques though, until I reread all the above comments - which is why I love when people bring up these old posts - there is so much to digest on this site, that you simply forgot all the good tips if you don't write it all down. I also have been bleaching the towel (along with the rest of my white hotel-stolen towels), and no problems that I'm aware of. This towel does say not to bleach it, but it still works fine and is beautiful baby pink, as far as I can tell. I HIGHLY recommend this little wonder!

I flipping LOVE this towel!! I asked for one for x-mas because the hair they use for extensions is so chemically treated causing it to be really porous and it holds onto water like a camel on a 5 month trek across the desert! I don't even leave it on while putting on my make-up, just while I moisturize and by the time I'm ready to blow dry, my hair is already halfway there! It's brazilliant!!

oh my gosh, I think I need this product! Was considering getting a sham-wow for my hair, even though I cut it, b/c there's just so much water in my thick mop of hair.kind of a weird question--can you use this on your face? my terry towel is very scratchy on my skin (due to my being on accutane, never had problems before accutane). I like my face totally dry before putting on makeup, but don't like rubbing/blotting w/a terry towel. Thanks!

I have a similar item, I think its called the turbi twist? It's also microfiber, and I love to wrap my hair up in it when I need a shower but don't want to wash my hair. It keeps my hair dry and having my hair twisted in the microfiber doesn't cause any bends or dents from the steam (like a clip or ponytail would)!

I use the Rusk speed freak dryer that dries really quickly.  When I had long hair I would dry my hair upside down, that seemed to really cut the time down a lot.  But recently I cut my hair to shoulder length, to straighten it now is a big pain in the butt!  It actually takes longer cause I have to do it section by section and dry it with a round brush.  Or it comes out all wavy!

This sounds like a product that i've been reading about on a curly hair forum to help "plop" the hair.  When you get your styling products in you wrap it around your head and a lot of the ladies then go to sleep and when they wake up their hair is mostly dry and curly.....does this sound correct?i've been hoping to find something that will help me get my curl formation going....could this work????

OMG, I used to have one of these, and totally LOVED it!! I got one years ago when I first started blowing my hair straight, and because my hair is so thick, coarse and porous, it took forever. When I wrapped it in one of these and let it on for a half hour or so, it cut the drying time in half. Then I went through a curly hair phase, and kind of forgot about it, and it must have gotten lost or something. Now that I've been reminded, I'm going to get another one. Thanks for the timely reminder!!

This is a great idea, it'll cut back on mechanically damaging your hair by drying it. Also I'd like to add a hair tip in here to anyone reading: never put heat on your hair without using a heat protectant product. The drier, curling iron, and flat iron all cause damage to your hair! This towel seems wonderful! I never heard of normal towels causeing breakage, though it does make sense. I've heard of cotton pillow cases (which are mostly all pillow cases) cause breakage so they recommend using satin/silk pillow cases. There's another tip. = )
