SKINCEUTICALS EYE GEL! FAB FRIDAYS!
It's Fabulous Friday! Where Desertdoll brings you dream items worth the splurge. Here's one that won't quite break the budget...
I’m a bit obsessed with eye products. Every since I heard my British husband whisper to check out someone’s “Dodgy Mince Pies”. That’s rhyming slang and I just don’t have enough space here to begin to explain how it works (but if you’ve ever seen a Guy Ritchie movie you might know what I’m talking about) Just know that that’s a saying you’d never want anyone to say about you, as it means “wrinkley old eyes”. Can you imagine?!
Enter SkinCeuticals. This is a line I had always seen at Spas and high-end boutiques but had always assumed I couldn’t afford it. Well, you know what they say about assumption-cause the amazing product I got to test is only $30! Who would have thought you could get a product with pharmaceutical grade active ingredients for a price like that?
The SkinCeuticals approach is scientifically backed, but very simple: prevention, protection, and correction. Their line is designed to prevent future damage, protect healthy skin and correct previous damage. All their products fall into one of those three categories, with many of them multitasking. Plus, I must give a huge amount of praise to their website. The clean and easy to navigate site has a section where you can see their entire line at once and put together an AM and PM regimen depending on your type and needs.
One of megsmakeup’s newest writers, Fiche got the pleasure of trying their daytime treatment, the Eye Gel AOX. I’m going to let you get a first hand review from her. But until then, here’s what they say: “Formulated for the delicate skin around the eye area, Eye Gel neutralizes free radicals, defends against environmental damage, and helps prevent premature signs of aging. Now formulated with AOX+ advanced antioxidant technology, this gentle and fast-absorbing serum combines ferulic acid with 5% pure vitamin C to enhance antioxidant performance.” Even this product is very reasonable priced at $50.
It was a hard choice, but I chose the Eye Renewal Gel. On top of loving nighttime specific products, this grabbed me as it said it gently exfoliated around the delicate eye area. Here’s what they say: “Mixed hydroxy acids work synergistically in this nighttime line-minimizing gel to smooth fine lines and reduce the appearance of crow’s feet. Cool and moisturizing, Eye Renewal Gel helps create a more radiant appearance around the delicate eye area by gently exfoliating the skin. Aloe, algae, and chamomile are added to help heal, moisturize, and soothe the sensitive eye area as a 5% hydroxy acid blend sloughs off dead skin cells.”
Here’s what I say: where has this been all my life?! I’m an exfolia-holic and eyes never get to join in on the fun. Every product I own says “not for use around eyes” or “avoid eye area”. So an eye specific exfoliator is right up my alley. The gentle hydroxy acids did their job very well, as within 2 weeks of use, this has softened the appearance of my wrinkles. Best of all for me is that it’s oil free so there’s no chance of a breakout.
So Ladies, have any of you tried SkinCeuticals? What other products should I be looking into? Cause so far, I’m very impressed!

Ok, I'm going to ruin the recommendation percentage, but I gave Eye Gel AOX+ a fair shot. First of all, texture. This is a "gel", right? Then maybe every Jello mold, bottle of L.A. Looks, and translucent toothpaste has steered me wrong, because this is liquid. And I'm not arguing semantics, but liquid makes for a very messy application. A gel would stay put under your eye. This stuff drips down like you were watching the ending of Love Story. Being a liquid, not a gel like the bottle says, it doesn't make for a very smooth or creamy application, so if you are like me and need a little under-eye concealer to look bright-eyed, this ain't for you. It highlighted every crease and crinkle. I tried it plain, under eye cream, under moisturizer. It just doesn't blend with any foundation, concealer, powder, cream or liquid. Now, to be fair it says "prevent" which would mean I wouldn't see improvement to my current skin. It would just prevent further damage. And to that end, maybe I'm too damaged already. Maybe this is meant for a 19 year old Eskimo princess (no sun exposure), not a 33 year old Los Angeles denizen. But I know when I was 19 and still had time to "prevent" I didn't have $55 to blow on something that was designed to NOT show change in my appearance.
ok girls this has my attention. i always thought skin ceuticals would be 100 bucks or more. so 30 bucks is worth an eye experiment with a product from such a good company. i to am obcessed with the eye area. i am using good products now but always searching for more, more, more! the eye area is so sensitive but needs exfoliation. i had a friend who used retin-a on her undereyes! she said you just have to build up. well there is no way my peepers would suvive. this sounds like at 5% it is low enough not to irritate but maybe strong enough to do some good. so i will definitely be trying this one. thanks for the post. carol b
I became a fan of SkinCeuticals this past summer and used their C + Ferulic Acid Serum. Great for protecting and preventing skin damage! Also very $$$, so I am with Ruthie, a SkinCeuticals product in the $30 dollar range makes me happy! That Clay Clarifying Mask also sounds really good. Thanks for all your recommendations!
I have been using the SkinCeuticals line for years. I will admit that I usually buy it in the mini sizes on ebay, so I've never paid full price. My tried-and-true faves are the C/AOX Serums (all are good - pick one - you'll love it), the Face Cream (for "aging" skin, though I like the Skin Firming as well), the Retinols (0.5 or 1.0), Intense Line Defense (a 12% AHA that is VERY gentle and feels good on your skin), and the Clay Clarifying Mask (a clay mask that also has AHAs in it, so it sucks your blackheads AND exfoliates - just used it this morning!).These are my can't-live-without products, though I've tried others from the line and they are all good. These are just my desert island ones! There are other lines out there that are sexier or might make greater claims, but I like the simplicity of the line and the fact that it is backed by data. I have a couple of skincare rules: 1) don't spend the big bucks on cleansing/toning and 2) products for maintenance/repair/damage control need to be carried by a dermatologist - not a department store cosmetics counter.ps - regarding this particular product, if your eye area is sensitive (mine is - exfoliating is good, but nowhere near by eyes) - skip this one and splurge on another! Other than that, Big Thumbs Up for my favorite skin care line ever!
I have been using skinceuticals for a month or so now. I have slightly sensitised skin so I purchased the eye renwal gel, gentle cleanser and emollience moisturiser. Even though skinceuticals claims to be a cosmeceutical, it's not as grand as everyone thinks. They have great stable vitamin c products and spf products but their cleansers, moisturisers, and a few other products are very disturbing. THe gentle cleanser does not remove any makeup, and it has to be massaged in properly before anything comes of. It contains irritants. The eye renwal gel is supposed to be suitable for sensitive skin. It has lemon extract. That is a ridiculous ingrediant for a sensitive product. Emollience actually has essential oils, and as we all know most if not 98% are crap for our skin. I became red and slightly patchy. Apparently thats normal according to a rep of skinceuticals because its a grade up from your standard product. I spoke to a pharmacist and a dermatologist. The information I was given is incorrect. Nothing should make your skin react in any way at any stage and be safe. I was advised to stop using it. I asked the lady that I PURCHASED all the prods from for a refund. They wouldn't issue it. I had to write a complaint to head of in skinceuticals. They then forwarded on the email and somone called me. THey wanted me to come in to be tested to see what is going on. They advised me that since they are a cosmeceutical they need to see what is going on to help me. I live over an hour away.I work full time, study full time, had exam block during that week not to mention other events. There was just no way I could make it out of my way so I could be their test dummy. They were really insisting on me going in. They were doing every thing to do dodge a refund. I kept firm because I barely have time to use the toilet let alone go in so they can analyse me. The rude rep came on and said I was rude and stubborn. I was shocked at her lack of interpersonal and communication skills. I didn't have anything against the brand until I got the ridiculous service. I am now going through getting the refund. But due to the service, and their inability to solve issues, I would never go to them again.
Haven't used the eye gel yet , but bought the entire line and LOVE it. Just started using it about 2 weeks ago along with the Clarisonic Brush and my skin has NEVER been softer or clearer. I was just looking at the areas by my nose where I have always had blackheads...totally gone....NADA!!! I am using in the am...with my Clarisonic Brush, Gentle Cleanser, Toner, Eye balm (love it), C+AHA, B Hydrating Gel, Day Moisturizer and Sun Block 20....wow sounds like alot! But just a tiny bit of each one.it's really making a difference. At nite, basically the same regimen, except using Intense Line Defense and Night Renewal. My Dermatologist sells this line, but I did not buy it from him, I found better prices online. I did run into the rep at his office the other day who told me it will not be available online any longer..so buy it up while you can!!
i am a big fan of this!

Interesting product, I haven't tried it but I've never heard of an eye exfoliator so it would be really cool to try this out!
