EPILADY EPIC! HUMP DAY HAIR DAY
Meg here, so I guess it was a couple of months ago that I wrote some post about being 12 or 13 years old and snagging my mothers Epilady. I used it once, it pulled out a buch of pubic hairs and I nearly fainted from the pain. I quickly placed the Epilady back in my mother's bathroom and never touched the damn thing again. I learned my lesson, I stuck to borrowing lipsticks and shadows from there on out.
Well, Amir from Epilady somehow read that post and prompty emailed me that this is not my mothers Epilady. Its been almost twenty years since that incident and they've made great strides in lady hair removal. If I were game he'd send me their newest product The Epilady Epic. I agreed that I hadn't really given the company a fair shake since a lot of things have improved in twenty years so to send it along and I'll revisit Epilady.
A really cool metal can came about a week later, inside was the Epilady, a charger and a great travel pouch. It looked great but I was a little scared. I mean it was modern and round and looked improved but was I setting myself up for torture?
I let the round device charge for a day and didn't shave anywhere for about 3 days before I used it. I first was afraid and lightly ran it up my legs and while it was not really painful it still was uncomfortable. I mean it's ripping the hairs out from the root so its not like you think you're getting a massage or anything. I had to have a serious pep talk with myself to be able to really press down and delve in and give an honest review. Here is my honest review..You need to drink wine before you do this. You need to drink atleast 2 glasses. You need to be committed as this takes longer then shaving. If you have 20 minutes and get buzzed while using this you will LOVE the results. I had smooth skin for weeks. Really, ridiculously smooth. I even did the pubes and whats weird about that is, it was less uncomfortable then doing the legs. Go figure. Also, its impossible to cut yourself so Epilady Under The Influence is my ringing endorsement.
I still shave, I'm not 100% converted but here's when I will be..Bathingsuit Season and weekends away. So if you want to be hair-free for weeks at a time I endorse this product! Take it from me, partner it with a nice Pinot.
Here's what Epilady Epic says "New from Epilady® — the original and best-known name in epilation — is our exclusive rechargeable Epic™ model. OMG, but I HATE shaving. Give me an alternative any day. Once upon a time I had an original Epilady, and I must admit that I didn’t think it was THAT bad. Not fun, but not that bad. Except for the time I was leaning over and got my then middle-of-my-back-long-ass hair caught in that spinning spring of terror. No, it did not jerk the hair out of my temples, but the Epilady passed into the next life when we dismantled it in a different kind of removal effort. Learn my lesson? Can’t really say, because I’m off to buy one of the next-gen models and a case of Picpoul (my favorite summertime wine). Thanks Meg!
I hate shaving. I hate unwanted body hair. I shake my fist at it.I am so very happy for those of you who have had good experiences with this product! But for those of you who are wondering whether or not to try out this product, a word of caution--hot dayum this hurts!!An epilator has a series of tweazer-like pincers that pluck out hair as you move the mini machine. My experience with this was that I had to go over an area multiple times, and even when I only had to go over an area once, my skin turned red and my pores cloged! And this, like most epilators are very loud. To this day I still wince when I use my electric noisy electric toothbrush, for it sounds just like an epilator. Now then, I've had friends who will use nothing but an epilator--but they had to get there skin used to it for up to two months in order for a successful result. So ladies, if you have sensitive or thin skin, I would advise you to not use this.
i am thinking about getting this because the thought of hair free legs for weeks is appealing! laser hair removal is so expensive and it hurts like hell too. this would be a cheaper alternative.carol b
ok i went and bought this puppy at sharper image. i am finding if i go really fast all over my leg it helps the pain. i am only doing small increments at a time. i think i will take an 800 ml ibuprobpen sp? and try it again. carol b
That is so funny! I love the advice about having at least 2 glasses of wine first! I'm a shaver, but I've had both my legs and my bikini areas waxed before and I agree! The legs hurt way more! Have you seen the SNL video of Woomba? It's hysterical. Check it out on YouTube.
I don't remember the old one... well, I wasn't born yet. ^_^ I don't really have a pain tolerance either, but I do have a bad problem with shaving--my hair tends to grow back almost a couple of hours after I shave. I think, in all my shaving years, I've had silky baby smooth skin twice. So, I think I'm going to invest in this baby =D Thanks for posting such a useful product!!
Half-way through summer and still no razor in sight. Weeks without hair? Not hardly. Your hair grows back at different rates, so I wound up using this every couple of weeks to keep everything in check. If you’re going for hope-to-get-lucky-smooth, you’ll probably want to augment with a shave. For general out-and-about - FANTASTICO. Every use is easier and less stinging. Farmer Tom says my bikini line has never looked so good - and he knew me when I was in my 20’s. Bellisima. Brava. Buy one.
I too used one of the old school ones, not the best experience. Pulled more hairs than it actually took out, not too good. I purchased one back last summer my cousin talked me into it, see I am a brunette, and any brunette knows when you shave especially your underarms, you can still show stubble from the dark hair root. I loved the clean shave and it lasts for days, weeks if you let your hair grow out a little (Gross I know) but then you don't have hairs growing in at different times. I have a very high pain tolerance, actually I like the feeling just like getting a tattoo. my husband calls me a sadist. anyhow I like the results but when I did my legs I had a problem with ingrown hairs coming back. Any recommendations on this would be helpful, I tried azula oil and plenty of ex foliating as my cousin recommended, but for the under arms is great.
My recommendation is laser. Next best thing for pubic area is shavers specificlly designed for that purpose.Cleancut is a good one. As far as legs goes, I would just as soon shave then deal with the EpiladyJMOLisa
I bought an epilator about a year ago and while I could only bring myself to use it about 3 times (the claims about new "pain free" technology are dirty, dirty lies), the results were pretty amazing. I was hair free for weeks, and to this day I don't have nearly as much hair as I did (the lady who waxes my face told me whenever you remove hair by the root, it only grows back 50-75% of what it was, which if true is pretty awesome) and I can go probably 3 or 4 days without shaving and still wear a skirt as opposed to like one day before. Meg you have motivated me to find that thing and use it again, however, I dont care how drunk I am nothing could get me to bring that torture device near my bikini line. All in all, highly recommended product for those with high pain tolerance
It still stings. I’d put it on the same level as waxing for my legs. In fact, my legs really didn’t bother me at all, but first pass on my bikini line and there was a blue cloud of expletives floating around me. I’ve sometimes wondered if aestheticians secretly receive black leather outfits after passing “Bikini Wax 101”. I may think twice (or three times) before hitting the pubes, but I doubt my legs will see a razor for a long, long time.
OH, so lucky you. I have been oh so tempted to try this out again. I had a horrendous experience when they first came out and way to scared to try it again. I have a friend that swears by it. I don't know, I think I might like laser hair removal more, at least it is permanent.
I am very tempted by this product, based simply on how much I loathe shaving. I think I'd even be brave enough to try it out (with a glass of wine on hand, as Meg suggests). But I'm so torn between whether it's worth the investment... the price is... well, it would get me some great lip glosses too or the Dior eyeshadow palette I've been wanting or a weekend out drinking with all my friends. I can't make a decision like this by myself. Would someone weigh in on this and tell me what they think? Is it worth taking a large chunk out of my college girl budget for silky smooth legs?
Ok, did everyone have the same experience with their mother's epilady? I vividly remember being in 7th grade and goinginto my mother's bathroom and using her epilady for a split second. To remember it so well, it really must have beenpainful! I'm actually really excited about this. I HATE shaving - I never ever do it. I let my leg and bikini hairgrow long (gross, I know) and wax it and I did laser on my underarm. The issue I have with laser is that its expensive, takes so many appointments (I was told I'd have to go for touch ups every year 3x a year) and a esthetician friend toldme laser doesn't work 100%. All that said, I do see a major difference and I'm happy I did it. This epilady really excites me.
I really, really want an epilady. I HATE shaving and seem to be allergic to a lot of different waxes. Hair removal creams are good but don't last. So really my only option is an epilady! I hope I can handle the pain, pretty sure I'd take some painkillers 20 minutes beforehand and hope it helps. :P
Never tried this method before but would rather not due to the "pain" that's involved in using this, I am happy with using the traditional shaving or just waxing. If hair only never grew back on areas that we don't want.
Looks cool, Very nice.
