PASTELS WITH A POP! SATURDAYS AT SEPHORA!
Every Saturday Kate2004rock brings you the best of Sephora as only an insider can!
I attended the same prep school for grades 5-12. We wore uniforms. Green plaid skirts, knee socks, loafers--the whole nine yards. I actually really liked wearing uniforms. It made life so easy. And it was always so easy to guilt my mother into buying me new clothes if I had some particular event to go to. "Mom...I have nothing to wear!" Because, well, I didn't. Even so, to this day, I cannot STAND white socks. I spent so many days of my life wearing them... I think I was in about the 8th grade we had to wear dress-up clothes for some reason or another one day. Awards ceremony or a field trip to somewhere special. But I remember wearing a white blouse and a floral pencil skirt. And I had these really cute (and stylish at the time) white wedge platforms from Nine West. Come to think of it, they're actually sort of back in style now. Anyhow, a couple rather bitchy girls in my English class kept making fun of me for wearing white shoes before Memorial Day. I was told them: "What are you talking about? It's EASTER to LABOR DAY that you can wear white shoes. What does Memorial Day have to do with it?!?" I lost the argument. I was outnumbered 3-to-1. Be back me up here ladies...you can wear white shoes ANYTIME after Easter. And I know for a FACT that It was after Easter after that day! I never will forget that! That springtime story is actually totally unrelated to the Pastels that Pop all over sephora this spring! There are just some beautiful sort-of pastels all over the place and I love it! Check out these sure-to-be hits!
Take note of the Bare Escentuals Face Fasion set ($34). What really drew me into this set was the eye look on the box. Its this beautiful sort green-blue metallic smoke. But It's totally wearable and really not too gaudy. I mean, many of you have heard my opinions on Bare Escentuals but one of the things I really do have to give them credit for is making this sort of high-fashion look accessible to all women. And I think that's really cool. Besides the three eye colors you get a blush, and a mini Buxom lips in this five-piece set. $34 for all that is a bargain I think.
Next, the Stila Shadow Duos: Some of the color combinations that they came up with are fabulous! Plus the duo's are still the same size as the regular shadow pans so they will definitely fit into your compacts. Borealis is a light periwinkle/dark blue combination. More periwinkle less blue would be great for day and you could dab in more blue for a dramatic night time look. I also love Terra Cotta which is a reddish orange/brownish orange duo sort of like NARS' Bohemian Gold Shadow Duo (one of my favorites!)
Laura Mercier has these limited edition Shadow Quads in Violet shades. There's a warm set and a cool set and they are beautiful and irridescent. The great thing about violets is that they really bring out all eye colors, too. Try them with their new Liquid Eyeliners that come in a little nail polish like bottle and you just dip in your brush (to keep out yucky germs!). Its very pretty and subtle.
The best pastel with a pop cheeks, in my book, hands down are Tarte Cheek Stains. I just got the new one, "Full Blossom" which is actually "Natural Beauty" swirld with a complex of five different fruits packed with antioxdiants so its actually makeup thats GOOD for your skin! How can you argue with that?
If you want a one-stop shop for your entire face check out the Fresh Island Reverie palette ($55) which has thee shadows (a sheer champagne, a shell pink, and a rich coffee) with a blush and bronzer. The shades are so pretty and will translate easily from spring to summer and even into fall.

I played with the set a little bit in the store. I haven't gotten my Sephora.com box yet so I don't have the set in my own bathroom to really play with but this is what I can tell you about it before hand: Keep the two lighter shadows ON the lid, you don't want too much of it in the crease or you'll look like a racoon. I use the Tarte Smudger brush. Its the best $15 I've ever spent. http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P38608&shouldPaginate=tru...

Love It! I have pastels on my list for summer fun!
I bought the BE Face Fashion set a few weeks ago for the same reason Kate - that eye on the box is so beautiful! With a lip gloss and blush? What a deal! Now, here's the thing. I've been practicing, and, can I get my eye lookinglike that? Hell no. It just looks like I have darkish eyeshadow on. I absolutely cannot use the eyeliner powderto save my life (and I did buy an eyeliner brush). The trouble I'm having with this is that I'm not entirely sure how to use the eye shadows (do I have the right brushes? do I "swirl, tap, and buff"? am I putting them in the rightplaces? there are simple instructions, but I learn by doing). A new BE store store just opened in my mall and I'm planning on going in and asking them to please, please, please help me use this correctly - I was to look like the woman on the box!!!!
Let me mark my calendar-March 22nd, Kate gets spring fever and reccomends something from BE! It does look very pretty, I can understand. And I can attest, on our South Coast Plaza extravaganza most of the girls got the Island Reverie palette and it's freakin' gorgeous. Oh, I heart spring!
Of course you can wear your white shoes on Easter! What did they expect you to wear? Black boots to the spring concert?! That would have been tacky. They were simply jealous of your great look! My 14 yo daughter is so there right now, she was convinced that she had to own a neon-striped hoodie with one polka dotted sleeve. It was soooooo hideous, but everyone has this jacket at her middle school. Anyway, she ended up finding another hoodie that was a reversible bright turquoise and had a very subtle pastel plaid hoodie, which she loved as well. Smart girl, striving to be original! I am dying to try Tarte's new cheek stain, and I am even giving one away this month at Mythbuster Beauty and 4 of their new lip glosses.
I want that Island Reverie Palette pretty badly.

I wondered about the Bare Escentuals eye makeup. I may have to try that set the colors look lovely!!!Are they messy to put on? or do they go on pretty easily? Those Stila Combos!!! Wow the Borealis looks so pretty!! And so does the Promenade.... Looks like a web buying night =)Happy EASTER everyone!!
I just saw the Bare Escentuals kit at Target, of all places! What the heck is it doing there - makes me think it either fell of a truck or didn't meet the Sephora specs for some reason. It was next to some Kiehls products, too-which blew me away even more. Those Stila duos are awesome, but beware if you buy them soon. Bring your palette b/c they may NOT fit - mine doesn't. Apparently, the first set that was made was overpressed in the machine and stretched a little too far to fit in the palettes. They do fit in the separate holder for them, though. I guess rather than recalling and losing millions of dollars, they decided to just sell them. The next batch will fit, but who knows when that will be. Finally, re: wearing white - I have always heard Memorial Day to Labor Day...but I have also always worn white whenever the heck I want and with my head held high and a smile on my face. As a junior high teacher, my secret favorite kids (of course I have no actual favorites!), are the kids that don't conform and join the bitchy cliques - and have their own style and personality. Such a hard thing to do at that age...
i have been in love with pastels - i know this is a late post to comment on but it's still useful milani also has a pastel pallete

I used to be a Bare Minerals user, but the thing I found with their eyeshadows was the colors weren't so pigmented or I had to put a ton on to get the colors they show. Yes, I use a primer but still had trouble with them. I will say one of my all time fave lipglosses are their buxom lips! I love the colors and I love the tingle when you put them on. This set looks pretty, but I would probably pass. For my pastel shadows I have been using Everyday Minerals Leaps & Bounds, Butter Fly Kisses and Car Pool. I also use MAC Mineralize Duo Shadow in Fresh Green Mix.
Those colours look so pretty! I always love the collections Bare Minerals puts together. They look so tempting, but are still quite expensive. I have resisted this company because I know there are less expensive alternatives out there.Although, I am a lipgloss junkie so one of these days I may cave in and try them!
* In love with pastel colors ! * Deff for me <3

I attended catholic highschool, and i must admit that i LOVED wearing a uniform everyday! it made getting ready in the morning so easy, and i thought that our navy and hunter green skirts were pretty cute!
I just attended a normal public school, both primary and high school, and had to wear school uniform. Uniform code in high school was strict but not too strict, just the average school really but no things like short skirts, open blouses. Won't want to promote perverts, I must say back then, I didn't understand why we had rules like this but with cases like teachers perverting trust and possible paedophiles, I'm glad I wore suitable uniform and somwehat abided by the rules. Also agree that uniform is great, does save a great deal of time in the morning. With work now, it's casual but won't mind wearing smart wear but hard to walk to work with heels on, even if it's kitten heels!Haven't tried Bare Minerals but would love to try out more mineral make up, love loose powder make up, fun to mix colours! Thanks for the post!
That's really neat!
I usually like really really bright colours, but these popping pastels look gorgeous!
I love bright colors, so this really adds to that! I really want them now, great xD
