JERGENS NATURAL GLOW EXPRESS BODY MOISTURIZER! DRUGSTORE DEAL THURSDAYS!
Every Thursday Rachael Robbins brings you the best of her DD's!
Hi! It's me, non controversial Rachael! Writing to you this time from sunny Miami where I am taking in a little much needed RNR after my strenuous shoot for the last 2.5 weeks! So I get down here, and I'm SOOOOOOOOO happy because South Beach is one of my most favorite places in the world (it's where I first met Meg!!) and I unpacked my bags, put on a bathing suit with a little juicy tube dress over it and hit the pool at the Delano. I saddle up to a seat at the pool bar, order a frosty cocktail and feel the relaxation seeping thru my bod! Yup, I'm feeling pretty good about myself right now! Macking in my shades, drink in hand soaking up the shade (I can't go in the sun because I have super fair skin and lots of freckles). So, the manager from the pool comes over, introduces himself and checks on my to see if there's anything I need. WOW! I getting the treatment here!! Then before he walk away he says in his suave European accent "You really need some sun, I've never seen legs so white. Your arms are fine, but your legs!!"
Color me mortified. So I finish y cocktail and head to CVS to see if there's anything that can help my hideously white legs. The first thing I see is a display for a new product from Jergens called Natural Glow Express Body Moisturizer it comes in fair/medium and medium/tan. In my desperation I go fir the medium/tan. The concept of this stuff is that in three applications you get what it might take a week for the other gradual moisturizers to kick in. Let me tell you something: I was not blinding people with my whiteness at the pool the next day, and by the third day I was not only looking tropical, I had achieved a gorgeous tan without subjecting my skin to the dangerous rays of the sun!
Here's what Jergens has to say about this kick-ass product: "Only Jergens is formulated with our exclusive Glow Perfecting Complex. This proprietary blend of skin tone specific color enhancers and anti-oxidents is designed to give you natural looking color in less time" >

I haven't tried the express but I have used the Jergen's Natural Glow for face and have had ok results with it. I'm pretty bad about remembering to swap it for my regular moisturizer everyday so it takes longer to see results. One thing to warn, in the winter I get pretty fair skin so the first time I got the fair formula--it did absolutely nothing for me, so I switched to the medium and saw results. Unless you are very very fair and see results with self-taners I would go with the darker shade, at least of the normal formula, I don't know about the express. Random, but I have a problem when using self-tanners on my face that my blackheads darken and show up more (I know the chemicals darken everything), anybody else? I hate to exfoliate more because that just washes away the tan. Any suggestions? I am applying wrong?
i actually work at a cvs/pharmacy so i'm all the time lookin for new stuff to tan up my pasty legs. well this stuff worked awesome! and i'm glas i tried it, i didn't care too much for the original jergens natural glow lotions. but this stuff is definitely my fave! plus it works in time for the weekend out =)
I just bought the express version and love it. Who wants to wait a week to get a tan when you can do it in only 3 days? I'm naturally pretty tan, so I got the dark shade. The color is perfect...not orange at all and no streaks. I could really tell a difference after only one day. My tan looked real and not from a bottle. The only thing I hate about self tanners is the smell. After a few hours I can totally smell the tanner and I really dislike it. I haven't used a self tanner that doesn't have this smell. Not sure if it's my body chemistry reacting to it or just that I have an extra sensitive nose. But hey...who isn't willing to sacrifice for beauty?
i always buy the darkest shade too even though i am casper white. and as far as making cellulite look better i think it does! my friend says brown jello looks better than white jello! how is that for a profound statement! carol b
This was I believe the firs gradual self tanning lotion, I got it as a birthday gift about 3-4 yrs. ago, it was and is the only self tanner that I could use for the firs time without ending up looking like I had orange streaks all over me. And I'm sure they have only perfected on it over the last few years. I've tried the Banana Boat one as well its good too, and it actually gives you a light instant gratification in about an hour, but not like the old ones, it looks real, and it is not as intense as the old ones. Here's my secret to applying any self tanner for the perfect application, after your all buffed down with a loaf from the shower, apply your regular moisturizer, everywhere you are going to apply the self tanner, putting extra in you dry areas (knees, elbows, tops of feet and ankles) wait 5 min and than apply the self tanner, I guarantee you will get a better result, no streaks or patching where your shin maybe dryer in areas and soak up too much self tanner, God I just hate when that happens, you look like a tanned patch work quilt! (if you make any mistakes, toner will remove it nicely).
I am so fair that I have dapples... especially when I’m just a bit chilly. For me, that means 80+ degrees to be considered shorts-type weather. I think I should be awarded stock in Jergens for the $$ I’ve spent on their self-tanning lotion. I’ve used the fair and was pretty happy - then again, I was just trying to camouflage the bluish tint to my legs and not to really look tanned. Tip: lightly moisturize your dry spots first, because they absorb more product - and turn darker. I didn’t realize my knees were dry-ish until then - darkened knees are NOT a good look for me to be sporting.
Oh that is too funny! Like IFW, I am a big fan of Jergen's self tanners as well. It gives your legs a nautral glow, but doesn't scream FAKE BAKE, and oops! I missed a spot. It doesn't have a strong stain smell some other self tanners can have. Great review Rachael and wish I could join you as well.
I absolutely LOVE this product! This is my third "warm" season to use it daily on my legs, and believe me, it has saved me during shorts and skirts season! I am always happily pale, and don't really have a strong desire to go into the sun, but even when I do, no matter how long I baked, my legs never tan. Ever. Enter Jergens. I started with it three weeks ago, and today I was complimented on my "Spring Break" tan when I wore capris (I spent the break in a place where it rained and snowed the whole time). I consider this an essential portion of my repetoire in the spring/summer. I haven't tried the express yet, but it will be my next choice. I am totally with Rachael, though, buy the darker shade - I am fair, but I get the maximum color and see AMAZING benefits, and much more quickly. Also, a nice part of this product is that everyone: Walmart, Target, CVS, etc, all make a generic version that is equally good. DEFINITELY recommended!
I didn't know that there was an "express" version of this product until I read this post, so I ran right out and bought a bottle. Being very fair & freckle-y, I use self-tanners and Mystic tanning exclusively, and I really like the Jergens gradual tanning lotion - but I sometimes have had the need to tan more quickly, and I'll let you all know that slathering on an entire bottle to "speed up" the tan doesn't work too well..Anywhoo I tried this "express" version and it awesome! It is in a smaller bottle than the regular Jergens, but it have me a nice natural looking glow within a day, and within 2 days, I was right where I wanted to be. This is a great product, and for the price, you can't beat it. Make sure to exfoliate before you start, you'll get much more even results.
I haven't tried this product yet, however on the recommendation of the lady at the cosmetics counter at Walgreens, my girlfriend bought some to try before heading into swimsuit territory. She loved it and told me it is a must. Now my friend is in her 50's and she said it made her skin feel and look very nice and was good at hiding the cellulite. I have heard that a tan is the best way to hide cellulite. True?

I haven't tried the express yet, but am a fan of the regular jergens natural glow. But I agree w/ xanthurus -- this is not for faces if you have blackheads at all! It really makes them stand out! Also for body I like the Neutrogena Summer Glow Daily Moisturizer SPF 20. Save a step! Also, it doesn't smell as strange as some other gradual tanners.
I am heading to CVS this afternoon! I need a fast tan, and am soooo sick of winter! Thanks Rach! And you made me want to go to South Beach so bad!!!!
I have tried this product and I can honestly say that it does work. However, you do need a base tan for it to look natural and blend in well with your skin. It does leave slight darker markings on your ankles, your palms, and knees if you are not careful. The trick is to do it and blend in circular motion, and let dry completely before you put on clothes. It smells good and perfect for the in between tanning sessions!
Well, I'm a bit late with my comments, but here I am finally! I just came across this review (I miss you Rachel!!) and ran out and bought the Express. It's great, really great. My legs are always horribly pasty white. Whiter than white. Casper white. I love to wear skirts and dresses, but don't have the nerve in the warm weather. NO MORE!! I'm sitting here admiring my legs right this minute. I need to buy more skirts!

This is a great product and not pricey. I have both the facial and body one. This gives me a nice tan color just like the Dove one, it works. Which reminds me I should use some today after my shower. :) This is a Yes for me.
This stuff is great. I love the smell. It's so nice. It feels good going on. And it looks good. I am so pale and pasty. This stuff really works and looks natural. I totally recommend it no matter what your skin tone is. Go for it!
A great way to avoid dark patches on knees, elbows etc. is to lightly go over these areas with a baby wipe after you apply self tanning cream. I prefer L'oreal's Sublime Bronze Properfect Airbrush Self Tanning Mist. This is a convenient no-rub, quick dry formula which sprays even when held upside-down. It's not oily at all, dries in much less that 5 minutes and has never stained clothing. This is so much easier than rubbing lotion into you whole body and it provides an extremely even-looking tan. You don't even have to wash your hands for fear of staining. Also you only have to use it once a week to maintain a great tan. It's not only very natual but very convenient.

Ive used the dove one and the johnsons holiday skin, which are both really good, thank god for gradual self tanners,I had a few disasters with regular tanning products which left me looking like a piebald pony(paint horse),these are my staple,I first thought I might be looking a little pale when local boy started humming the theme tune to the addams family as I walked by(to be fair I had the blond stripes at the front of my hair) so it was the full on morticia look.Well never being one to miss a chance to emasculiate a jerk in front of his friends,I rounded on him and said "carl "girly by name girly by nature (as he was somewhat feminine looking),that shut him up pretty fast.Only a couple of years later did I find out he came out of the closet "oops",I wondered why he looked so shocked.I think he thought I knew something nobody else knew.

I'm a Jergens Express fan. I like to go to bed pasty and wake up sun loved! I have self tanners spilling out of my cabinet and this is the one that gets picked most every time.
I feel that for a quick simple tan this is fine especially if it is for a photoshoot or pics, but if it is for a date or going to the beack or ppl...i would sat it is a no go. When i am around my friends os my sginificant other, i dont like the scent i give off after using this product. the self tanner has an ingerdient that smells kind of iffy to me and it is very hard to cover up. To me, it smells like sour milk, and the look may be sexy but the scent is definately not. I am not trying to toot my own horn but i really found that when I am not actually tanning (in a bed, with my "bombshell" tingling tanner) I really love what the Costa Rica self tanner does. It is produced by Mark and comes in three different tones, not only doe sit smell WONDERFUL, it gives more of a golden glow and shimmer that is completely streak free...and it lasts through the shower!!! I LVOE THIS PRODUCT!!! i get compliments on what fragrance i am wearing and if i have been tanning :)

I've tried Jergens in the original and express, and LOVE them! The express version is more prone to streaking, but it's nothing a 2nd coat of the original Jergens natural glow won't fix :) I'm not SUPER pale, but it definitely gets me looking healthy-tan without damaging my skin!

I have used the original version of the Jergens and it leave my skin a natural, deep bronze color. The two things that I do not like about this product is that it does not leave my skin feeling soft and moisturized and that the smell, although not strong, is not appealing.
This product was just OK for me. It gave me OK color - a tad streaky for my fair skin after taking much care to apply it evenly. Also, just could not get past the smell of it. The smell totally turned me off -- stinky, stinky like sour milk (thanks jaccijo12, I was trying to think of what it smelled like). I am looking for a new self-tanner... any suggestions?
Great review! I don't know why, but Jergens is the only drugstore bronzing product I fully trust. I love getting free samples from them too! I have gotten samples of the express and the face bronzing lotions. Sadly, it slowly fades, and the old version smelled weird.
i havent tried this nut the regular natural glow is very nice.

I may be giving the Express a try. I didn't care for the scent of the original, and didn't see that great a results.
I'm so fair that I find the gradual tanner works best for me. But I do like the express, I have it for the face, the only problem is that I exfoliate my face so much that I end up removing it before I even do my makeup.
I wanted to like this. I really did, because I never remember to moisturize EVERY DAY. So.. gradual tanners don't do much for me.While the Express product gave me a lot of color the very first application.. it was just orange on me. I used the Med/Dark kind. Thought about using the Light version but can't find it ANYWHERE! Do they make it in a Light version?
I really like the Express version. It gives you color the very first application. I used the Med/Dark kind. If you apply to often, however, it has sort of an orangey look. Just be light handed and it will work great.
A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.

I love Jergens gradual self-tanning lotion, I use it every day and it is super natural looking. When I need a color boost, I use express version and viola! Perfect and at a really great price!
I have never tried self-tanning products, purely due to the fact that I prefer the sun more, more relaxing and natural but I must say, great for not getting cancer if this method is used. Thanks for promoting health and safety!
i used this on my face. the most STUPIDEST thing ever. i broke out in literally like 4 places the next day. i decided to just try it on my legs, stomach, arms and chest. it worked pretty well all-and-all, but my face is so pale (thank you, spf products ;) that it kinda looked unnatural. i got mine for $2.50 CDN. haha (:
I know how you feel, but try to get over the trauma and buy the Jergens tanning moisturizer that is intended just for the face. It is light and absorbant and is actually one of my fav moisturizers bar none. a lot of instant gratification as it immediately makes your skin feel really smooth.
I liked the idea of this, but the smell wasn't great and it made me slightly too orange.
Non controversial for sure. Who doesn't love this stuff!? Wish I could wear the medium-tan, too bad I am such a casper...

My aunt was just talking about this today. She says she wants to start using it. So we took a quick trip to Target to get it =)
I've been using this on my legs and love the results. I use it every day until I get it to the color I like and then use it every other day or every 3 days. I like that it doesn't make me look orange. I also haven't had any problems with it streaking-- just make sure to work in a thin layer of the product evenly (use less of the product around the knees and ankles). Unfortunately, it's not the best smelling product; however, it's not the worst either. For what it does, I don't mind it one bit.
i love jergens! awesome drugstore brand, gives you a nice moisturized finished
I think I'll have to try this. My legs rarely get tanned.
haven't personally tried this product yet but did try the natural glow one and got got decent results with it. so i might have to check into this product and see what it all about
