KORRES LIP BUTTER AND DEEP COLOR MASCARA! GREEN CHI TUESDAYS!

Tue, 03/11/2008 - 11:33am
  • Eyes
  • Lips

Every week Chichi brings you the latest and greatest eco-friendly beauty products on Green Chi Tuesday! Today, we can thank the ever lovely Nancy of Korres Natural products for sending us two all natural make-up items for the megsmakeup gang to test! You may remember my post when I discovered the Mint Tea Shower Gel during a visit to desertdoll and her well-stocked guest bathroom. Later, we were so happy to receive the Party Survival Kit for a crash course in the best that Korres has to offer in bath and body. Now, we’re checking out Korres Color - their line of soft and beautiful make-up for face, eyes and lips. Our lucky testers will be reviewing the Quince Lip Butter and the Deep Color Mascara in grey-green.

When I pulled out these two products for testing, the first thing that came to mind is that I am so happy spring is on its way! The days are getting longer, the temperature is rising and here in Los Angeles, the grass is getting green and the trees are in bloom. I know, my friends in some parts of the country have a few more weeks of cold in store for them, so let some fresh, spring make-up add a little joy to your day! As much as I love strong and dramatic make-up, especially for evenings, my favorite look is the “no make up” makeup style. I couldn’t wait to sweep the grey-green mascara over my lashes, dab a bit of the softly tinted Quince Lip Butter on my lips and sail out the door looking as fresh and glowing as a starlet on a CW show!

All right, so no one is going to mistake me for Alexis Bledel or Kerri Russell, but these two products sure help when you are looking for an easy and pretty daytime look. For you people that actually watch television shows about adults, Alexis and Kerri starred in the teen dramas “Gilmore Girls” and “Felicity.” If there is one thing I know about, it’s teen dramas and these two are the epitome of that fresh faced, hint of color, all-natural beauty that I pine for when watching my shows. I know, those shows are a bit dated, but the 25 year olds playing high school students on TV today, could use a lesson in the natural look - less is more, sweeties!

That couldn’t be any truer than with the Lip Butter in Quince - this subtly pink tinted balm melts on your lips and leaves a shiny, rosy hue behind. The balm is sweetly scented and tastes of berries and like all Korres products is full of all natural, fresh ingredients. This lip balm relies on shea butter and rice wax to nourish and moisturize lips and is free of mineral oils, silicone, propylene Glycol and ethanolamine. I adore the sheer color and long lasting consistency.

I was also very pleased with the Deep Color Mascara in grey-green. This mascara added such glossy definition to my lashes and eyes and the softer than black color seems less harsh during daytime. This mascara is ”rich in provitamin B5 and Rice bran “ to strengthen and condition lashes while still being free of synthetic fillers like mineral oil and propylene. As a contact lens wearer, I normally need to wear waterproof mascaras, but had no issues with Korres. It stayed in place and was relatively smudge-free and I had no problem with stinging or itchy eyes. The best part about this mascara is its consistency. No clumps at all! In fact, the consistency is so smooth, you can layer as much as you like without worrying about globs of product sticking in your lashes.

Truthfully, I need a few more products to complete my “no make-up face”, but the Lip Butter and Deep Color Mascara are two must-have, anchor products. I usually dab some cover-up over any blemishes and my under eye circles. If I’m feeling shiny, maybe a sweep of translucent powder. Add just a hint of bright blush to the apples of my checks and voila - a quick, polished daytime look! This 30 something lady may not pass for a student at Sunnydale high, but on a good day, possibly a coed at California University?

Ladies, let us know if Korres Deep Color Mascara and Quince Lip Butter perked up your spring face with all natural beauty. Or share your tips for creating a fresh “no make up” made up face!

Yes! one more thing for my lips. Thanks to y'all, I think I now have every conceivable type of lip balm, gloss, and now butter! After reading this review, I knew I had to get over to my local Sephora and get me some. Well, my Sephora didn't have Quince (which sounded perfect to me) but they did have Pomegranate. It looked wildly orange to me - not in a good way - but trusting in the reviews, I tried it and I bought it. It's GORGEOUS, and who knew? a perfect color for me. As for the mascara, it sounded like a good look for me. But once again... my Sephora didn't have that grey-green color (rolling eyes at insufficient floor space) but being the Meg's devotee that I am, I tried the blue black. So far, I think I love it. In a couple hours, I'll know for sure! Thanks for the good advice!!

These are two big yes's for me! I love Korres!! Such a great line. Green and fresh and well made! I love this lip butter! It's such a nice hint of color and really moisturizes your lips. It has a subtle taste like Chi Chi said of berries and stays on really well. I've been using it every day and my lips are looking nice and healthy! I've never tried another lip product quite like this. It's not waxy or greasy at all, it's amazing!! It really feels buttery and sinks right into your lips leaving them quenched! And it's only 9 dollars at Sephora!! & Believe me ladies this little jar will last you a long time!! The mascara is a great dark green, it goes on so rich and smooth! and it's completely non-irritating. And again as Chi Chi said layer after layer...no clumps! And both products are full of vitamin benefits for your lips and lashes. You can't go wrong!! And One last thing!! Chi Chi you could pass for a Sunnydale high girl anyday!! =)

I have used several products in the Korres line and was thrilled to see that Sephora started carrying this line a few years ago as I got almost addicted to it on vacations to Greece. Korres bath and body is superb--they have a guava butter that makes winter skin silky. Like their lip butters. Looking forward to trying the mascara as I, too, have sensitive eyes.

Yeah, I finally get to talk about a couple of my new favorite items made by Korres. It sure isn’t Greek to me! Just green! I can totally use these next two beauties forever! I love the site too.. it’s very clean and fresh looking. Just like everything that they package. I’m beginning to lean more towards the simple and clear advertising verses the wild and flamboyant.. It’s classic and never goes out of style in my opinion! I think their lip Butter is wonderful. It feels just like the creamiest butter known to man, it finds its way into every nook and cranny making lips look shiny and pink. I have the shade Quince.. it’s light pink to me.. It's one of those items you want to have with you..dont' leave it in you car.. it will melt! It comes in Wild Rose, Guava and Pomegranate too. I would love to check them all out.. I’m heading over to Sephora..glad to hear they carry this line. The lip butter is made with shea butter.. now you know how it could be so soft.. You know me and shea butter... Yep, I love it with every fiber of my being. It also has rice wax. Well, I am not sure I know what that is, but I sure like this very much. Rice wax is said to provide amazing hydration making lips luscious and soft! I happen to have chapped lips as I type this and put some on to soothe them.. Nice.. I also like the taste too..it smells very pleasant! Oh, next.. The Provitamin B5 and Rice Bran Mascara! There’s that rice again, this time It’s rice bran. I try to get enough bran in my diet, but now I must add it to my lashes! I have the Grey Green shade.. It’s very cool.. I know I sound nerdy, but it’s way cool jewel! It’s rich and creamy too. No flaking or smearing either. I’m one of those people that rubs my eyes when I’m tired.. I noticed that the lashes are actually stronger too! You can curl your lashes first, and apply this with light strokes and build up to whatever level of volume and color you desire. You can make your lashed look so long. I love the idea that this is good for my lashes. Great color plus never ending pretty eyelashes to bat at your lover!

I've used several Korres products and have enjoyed all of them, but the Korres lip butter is, in my opinion, nothing special. I have the Pomegranate shade, which is the barest hint of coral. I like a little more tint, so maybe Wild Rose may not be as disappointing, but at $9 a pop, I'm not going to bother. There's no discernable fragrance or flavor (I'm a sucker for scents and flavors, it makes it seem more decadent somehow). It feels a little too thick for my tastes. I like my lip balms to be moisturizing and this fits the bill well enough, but I just didn't find it to be that special. As for the hubby test (which everything gets), I got a scrunched up face and a muttered "Meh" (I'm sure the face he makes is him trying to figure out how much of his hard-earned money I've squandered on the purchase being judged...or maybe constipation...I'm not sure). At least if it's not a complete waste of money, he'll give me the well-rehearsed "It's nice" or even more rare, the "Heyyyyy" and then tackling and hijinx ensue, but this is a family show, so I won't get more descriptive. Anyhoo, this lip balm only rated a "Meh." I hear Korres' tinted moisturizer is nice, anybody try it?

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Korres lip butter in Pomegranate. It gives me the perfect berryish tint to my lips and it's very moisturizing. It's actually perfect for my no-makeup look. This with some BE mineral veil and some LashBlast mascara gets me out the door in less than 5 min!

So I got both the mascara and lip butter and I wasn't liking either of them.I can't believe that DDoll loves a lip product that I don't enjoy. Having DDoll endorse your lip product is like Oprah endorcing your book. The butter alone I may enjoy if it was a freebie, but I wouldn't pay for it. I didn't like the color, the taste/smell or the silly little pot that like Blus Lee Lee said you almost have to dig out. I'm not a fan of any product you need fingers touching your mouth for. Germs Germs Germs! Face it ladies, not everyone washes hands and if you are sitting at your desk or dabbing this on in a store you could very well be passing germs right into your mouth. The mascara just didn't do a thing for me, I didn't like the texture, the color or the overall look of my lashes afterward. I was very excited to get them but I sadly didn't enjoy them. The mascara went to my eldest sister who will hopefully get great joy from it. The butter is sitting in a drawer because I feel bad throwing it away.

That's one of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me Bunny! I'll be sure to get you an invite to "My favorite lipglosses" taping. I'm not surprised you didn't like this, the girl is bacteria obssesed. I thought her head was going to explode when me and Chi shopped with her. We're big touchers, and Bunny followed us around with purell like a mad woman! We got off an escalator and she looked faint, all that hand rail holding. But I stick by my review, this lip butter is creamy and delightful and I'm going to go scoop my germy finger in it right now.

That's one link filled post Chi Chi! If you could have thrown in a hockey link too you could have had all your favorites covered : ) Speaking of favorites, I LOVE the quince lip butter! Butter is a perfect term, it's very creamy and not at all sticky. It smells great too. Plus, even though it's more balm than gloss-it's an amazing color. A bright, deep pink that is so utterly spring. The mascara was just ok for me. I didn't dislike it, but mascara just isn't something I get my panties in a bunch for. I do prefer black though or a bright color that you notice. This was kind of neither here nor there. Good consistency though. But the butter-I'm in love with!

I have the lip butter on my desk at work and use it when my lips start feeling a little dry and I don’t have my lipstick or gloss handy. I like that Korres products are full of “good for my lips” kind of things. Like DD said, it’s very creamy and it did last on my lips for a good amount of time. I didn’t like the container it comes in. The lip butter is not flush with the top of it so you have to sort of scoop it out. Now that I’ve cut my nails it’s not a problem, but when they were longer it was always getting stuck under my nails. I like the mascara and the fact that it didn’t clump. It also stayed on my lower lashes and didn’t end up under my eyes by the end of the day.

I love the idea of Korres being natural :) I just bought their silicone free primer (silicone-based products make my break-out prone skin freak out with tiny zits EVERYWHERE that I put it [ex. Smashbox Photo Finish Primer]). Haven't tried it yet, but can't wait :) The saleslady at Sephora really likes it--I know, I know, the salesladies say that about everything.I also bought the Plum lip butter. The color is a little dark compared to the other ones, but the texture is nice and it's nicely moisturizing. Can't wait to try the Quince one--the color is just so lovely! If you're looking for a lip butter, natural or not, get a Korres one. For a high end brand, a pricetag of $9 isn't that bad. And the product is WAY better than any of The Body Shop's lip butters (which have a more butter-like consistency, but do not moisturize at ALL and smell too strong).I also can't wait to try the Cherryful lip glosses. :) Hope the pigmentation is decent.

I bought the Korres mascara today in black. I just tried it on, and so far I like it more than my beloved Too Faced Lash Injection.  The Korres made my eyelashes look long and natural, whereas the Lash Injection made them look fake.  However, I'll find out shortly if it holds up throughout the day as well as the Lash Injection does.

All I've tried is their hair stuff, which didn't impress me that much. I think the polyquats built up on my hair, and the fragrance of the almond proteins spray conditioner was so bad I threw it out halfway through. The shea butter deep conditioner might be good for someone with dry, coarse hair, though.I've been looking at their makeup and drooling over it, though.
