TINTED MOISTURIZERS! BEST OF THE BEST! SATURDAYS AT SEPHORA!
Every Saturday Kate2004rock brings you the best of Sephora as only an insider can!
Spring is definitely in the air. The Japanese Cherry Blossom trees are blooming. College Baseball season has started. I'm going to be pinged as a crystal meth producer if I have to buy any more Sudefed or Benadryl because my sinuses are tortured by the pollen. In order to lighten my load I've been experimenting with different tinted moisturizers and I have come up with some fabulous results.
My favorite used to be the Stila Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer. I loved how glowy it made me look and that it had SPF 15 in it. I guess my skin chemistry changed a little bit and the Stila started to get slick and slimy on my skin causing the ever-unwelcomed breakouts. The Tarte Smooth Operator foundation is something I love to sell to my Sephora clients because it really does double duty. ( I know I've posted about it before - but it bears repeating right?) The SPF 20 formula can be applied in one thin layer and it acts like a tinted moisturizer. If you need a little more "something" for a night out or whatever, add one more thin layer and its an absolutely gorgeous Medium-coverage satin finish Foundation. Some people cringe at the $35 price point. But, the bottle is 1.7 ounces. Most foundations are only 1 ounce so I think that $35 is a lot of bang for your buck!
If you really love a matte look, which is something that is not necessarily associated with tinted moisturizers all the time, I suggest you give the DuWop Revolotion a whirl. The consistancy is a little bit thicker and its a mattifying liquid powder sort of finish. Last but not least, my overall favorite (lately...for now) has got to be Cosmedicine HonestFace. I don't know why I had never tried it before. Its amazing. It gives a great, even coverage; which, by the way, I think that's the problem I have with MOST tinted moisturizers is that they don't COVER at all. I love that it doesn't have that rubbery texture that pulls across your skin and it lasts all day!

I haven't worn foundation for years. I think I stopped right around the time I started investing a bit more in skin care (and figured out what products my skin really needed). I love TheBalm Balm Shelter, Model Co 3 in 1 (that has the most amazing concealor in the cap) and a lovely lady sent me Becca Luminous Skin color recently and I'm really liking that too. For a drugstore option, I think Neutrogena Healthy Skin Enhancer is fabulous. It's got spf, it's a retinol treatment and has a really gorgeous sheer, glowy tint.
I am a fan of the Stila Illuminating but sometimes find it a bit thick and time-consuming to apply. My favorite for days when I don't want makeup is Philosophy the Supernatural Poreless Flawless Tinted SPF 15. It really does fill everything in!
i think that benefits "you rebel" tinted moisturizer is one of the best out there. alot of people are put off by it because there are only two shades, the normal one and the light one but i dont know how benefit do it but the two shades fit almost any skin shade, i have the light one because i have lightly tanned skin and my friend has ivory skin and it fits her just fine. although i would recommend that you wear a loose powder on top because on your bad skin days it can make your skin look shiny and a tiny bit oily. but basically a good all rounder.
Hi Shelley - welcome! I wore Bienfait Bisque, too for a long time! It was my winter shade and Tawny was my summer - or maybe the other way around? I got tired of wearing it - felt kinda greasy on me and didn't seem to cover much, but that was a loooong time ago - probably didn't need it then, or maybe the formula's better now - actually still have some in the scary abyss under my sink - i should pull it out and see about it now. Instead of tinted moisturizers, I am having really good luck with Vincent Longo's water canvas creme to powder foundation (in #2) - that has been discussed on here on the appropriate foundation thread...but just had to give a shout out to this stuff since it is so light and wet feeling (in a good way), covers amazingly well, and I don't ever even feel it throughout the day.
I've been using a sample of Benefit You Rebel Lite this week, really good! I tried the regular version before and it was waaaaaay to heavy. The new formula is great. And you know Kate, I've kind of turned of the Stila too. I love the glow, but it is kind of greasy. Sorry Stila-you know I love you!
Personally, I probably wouldnt go anywhere near the Sephora Brand tinted moisturizers. Stick with the Stila.

Katie, another great post! I usually wear Bare Escentuals (stop! I know you don't care for it) which usually works pretty well for my skin. But sometimes I just don't wanna do the whole process - twirling, tapping, buffing - especially if I'm not planning to dazzle anyone. Except the hub, but if he isn't dazzled yet, we're in trouble. ANYWAY, I had just started thinking about trying a tinted moisturizer for my sorta natural days. And damned if you didn't give me some good ideas! I just got some of the Cosmedicine Honest Face. It is super! The nice Sephora lady gave me some of Juice's tinted foundation to try also. I love sephora...

my favorite is bobbi brown's tinted moisturizer!!! it actually matches my super fair skin (it tried nearly every tm out there) and it has spf 25, blocks uva and uvb rays.
I'm way into tinted moisturizers these days. I hardly wear foundation anymore. I love The Balm's Balmshelter tinted moisturizer. I sometimes mix just a little bit of the Stila Illuminating with it to give me an extra little glow, but most days I wear it by itself along with Laura Geller's Balance and Brighten powder. I would also love to try the Tarte tinted moisturizer because I've heard such good things about it too.
Well, I only have one tinted moisturizer but I love it! Makes me look like me but better and it's full of healthy skincare ingredients. It's Suki's active tinted moisturizer. Sometimes it gets too oily/shiny looking, but then again my skin is already oily...but i am a big fan of tinted moisturizers! I wanna try the modelco...been checking it out as well but now Katie makes me want to check out the cosmedicine first! Great post Katie!
Ah, tinted moisturizers! The best form of foundation on the planet. I am right there with you and Desert Doll with Model Co 3 in 1, and Tarte's Smooth Operator. Just enough coverage and not overly moisturizing; they just feel great on your skin. Laura Mercier's TM has become another recent favorite as well, it really illuminates and makes my skin glow. I am anxiously awaiting the opportunity to try Cosmedicine's TM, and Alison Rafaelle's new formulation of her tinted moisturizer. Mel, the Vincent Longo foundation sounds very nice. Awesome post Kate!
Oh Model Co 3 in 1... how I love thee!!!! Pricey, yes... but it don’ take much, ladies! On the rec’s of DD, I was planning on trying out BalmShelter... but I think I’ll wait until spring really brings out some colour to change up, because 5+ months into 3-in-1 and I’m STILL not at the bottom of the tube! Txtipster - I’m with you on the LG Balance and Brighten... Wow!!!! Even in the harshest light of a classroom or in the mirror of a tractor cab, it really just adds that touch of glow that I’ve been looking for - for decades. Question for y’all... I’m heading for a spring and summer of serious outdoor time.. in lots of dust and dirt with lots of heat and sweat... any suggestions??? Because there’s nothing quite so disgusting as a greasy mud-pit where my face is supposed to be.
I went to Sephora just to get Stila's tinted moisturizer and the woman helping me said the Sephora brand tinted moisturizer was basically the same, just a bit less so I tried the Sephora brand and didn't like it. It felt waytoo heavy on my skin. Kate, are they similar or should I go back for the Stila (or another brand)?
My absolute favorite tinted moisturizer is Lancome Bienfait MultiVital SPF 30!!!!! My shade is Bisque. I love this stuff...it has fresh scent and it its lightweight, but has very good coverage. Sometimes I will add an extra layer if I need it. Its a bit pricey at $44.00, but it lasts me a long time and its worth it. I never use foundation any more. Thanks for those other suggestions; I may have to try the Tarte stuff!
I am currently hooked on Laura Mercier's Tinted Moisturizer. It gives just the right amount of coverage without being to chalky or cakey. Also, it has SPF 20, which is a big plus. It's a tad pricey, but a little bit goes a long way.
I am not a foundation person at all. So I am trying to move into the tinted moisturizer with spf direction. I recently purchased the new Aveeno tinted moisturizer with an spf of 30. The jury is still out for me. But so far it's pretty good. It does not seem to add to the oiliness of my skin. It has a nice tint and luminosity. I got the light version. I like the smell. Most days when I use it my face looks nice. But if I am at all flaky it doesn't look so great. But this is certainly true with any product like this. I recommend it but I am still deciding on whether or not it is one of those can't live without items. It is fairly cheap at around $14. Give it a shot.
I really like Kiele's tinted moisturizer with SPF. For someone who does not wish to wear foundation in the summer, I find this moisturizer to work just as well. Although it is somewhat pricey for a very small plastic bottle, I feel that it is worth it.
I have the Stila Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer and feel that it's just okay. I'm going to give it another go, but only because it came as part of a set. However, I'm not in love with it.

My favorite is Philosophy's. After that You Rebel Light (and when I had a tube of the regular which was a bit dark, I put a small amount of my fav foundation, which lightened it and it worked out (Estee Lauder's Double Wear). I have a large sample of MD Skincare's and really like that as well.
tinted moisturizers are great for when you need something really fast
this is my favorite product
So, here's a long-delayed response to this posting! I just bought Laura Mercier's tinted moisturizer (SPF, oil-free) today. Since I'm doing a lot of traveling lately, I decided I needed to minimize the number of products I carry with me. I like double-duty things so I thought that a tinted moisturizer would be good. So off to Sephora! I was thinking Tarte, Stila, Cosmedicine... from the comments above. But the Sephora Lady steered me to Laura. And she made up my face with it, and it was awesome! I even had a glow, like you young people get! OK, so now I have 3 different foundations ... and I'm going to be mostly using this tinted moisturizer instead? It's not cheap ($42) but if I can make myself look as good as the Sephora Lady did, it will be worth every penny. I recommend it highly.

I love studio gear's tinted moisturizer. It has a good amount of coverage, spf and vitamin E. I still use a regular moisturizer underneath this, but I do feel that it does a good job on its own. I use this on work days because I feel like it's quicker and easier to apply than my mineral foundation.http://www.studiogearcosmetics.com/productGroup.php?id=20
I actually have a drugstore find that is my go-to product when I want less than full foundation. It's almay self-adjustable tint, I love it! It goes on white, and turns to the color you should have on your face, and does it right every time. It's Almay, so it never breaks me out, and it's a drugstore deal, so it's easy on the wallet.
I've been using Laura Mercier, too, and I like it a lot when I want more of a foundation-y thing. But what I'd really love is to find something that just evens out my skin tone and minimizes pores that I can put on in like five seconds. LM is a bit too much like makeup for me, and it does break me out if I wear it several days in a row. Sephora girl recommended Too Faced Primed and Poreless, and it looked lovely, but felt SOOO greasy...What about Per-fekt? Anyone used it? Is it worth the price?
My favorite is a tinted moisturizer from Jane Iresdale.
