Welcome back to our South Coast Plaza Week at megsmakeup.com! It’s me, Chichi, here with the latest Green Chi Tuesday! If you have been reading our posts this week, you’ll have gathered that the ladies and I had a fabulous day at the South Coast Plaza. A day of shopping and V.I.P treatment in a half dozen of the best beauty stores in America? What’s not to Love?! My day at the South Coast Plaza was like my birthday, Christmas and girls night out all rolled into one! Thanks again to our wonderful Pammie for making it all possible! So, one of the most exciting things for me about the SCP visit, was that it gives me a chance to talk about one of the gold standard companies of green beauty, Aveda! I’m not sure how I've managed to write so many Green Chi columns without gushing over Aveda and their amazing line of products. Well, now I have a chance to fix that glaring omission with our relaxing and educational trip to the Aveda store at the South Coast Plaza.

Our appointment at Aveda was scheduled towards the end of our big day. By that time, our feet were tired, our brains were filled with fabulous beauty finds and all of us ladies were dragging a little bit. As we walked into Aveda, we were welcomed by that incredibly soothing and yummy sweet-herbal smell that (to me) defines Aveda. We were quickly greeted by the very enthusiastic, super sweet and genuine Christina, the Team Leader of Aveda at SCP.

Christina offered us all a cup of Aveda Comforting Tea, which is a 100% certified organic herbal tea filled with licorice root and peppermint. The tea is caffeine and sugar free and can be served iced or hot. This miracle tea has been a mainstay of mine for years and does wonders for an upset stomach, especially during “that time of the month”. With the tea fortifying our minds and bodies, we gathered around a table (see bottom pic, left to right, Blusleelee, Chichi, Meg and Pamelairene) and listened to Christina talk about the Aveda Company and their new Smooth Infusion Hair Line.

Oh, did I mention that as we talked, Christina and the staff treated us to a five minute “reflexive massage”? I’m not sure how I managed to leave my seat after it was completed; I was so super relaxed and happy. Christina let us know that Aveda looks to make a genuine connection with each and every one of their customers. The massage is one of five types that are offered gratis to any one who walks into an Aveda. Plus, once completed, I promise you will not be given a “hard sale” by the Aveda staff. They let the products speak for themselves and while answering any and all questions; they will not push to make a purchase.

In addition to the massages, Aveda also has five different consultations (hair, makeup, skin, aromatherapy and sensory) that help to zero in on each customers personal wants and needs. Again, these consultations are free of charge and will not result in a sales person forcing a bagful of product on you.

All right, back to the lesson learned by the ladies of megsmakeup. You know how you have a regular beauty routine that is comprised of a mish-mash of your favorite products. Well, Christina and Aveda wanted to stress the importance of using a system of products designed to work together. As Christina stated “systems work.” If your looking for a particular result (in this case gorgeous smooth hair) you will really benefit from using a shampoo, conditioner and hair treatment that are designed to be used with one another. This past week I have been using my Aveda system faithfully. I found that using all of the products together from the Smooth Infusion Line left me with hair that is as smooth as silk hair without frizzies and flyayays!

Our time at Aveda flew by way too fast! Soon after we came out of our massage comas (witness Desertdoll and the lovely Christina mid-massage in the middle pic) and sipped the last of our tea, it was time to move on. As we gathered our things, we were presented with gift bags full of samples from their Smooth Infusion Line. The other lucky ladies from megs and I will be here shortly to give our reviews of this bagful of goodies, but you should know that all of Aveda’s products are 100% plant and flower based and are 95% paraben free (soon to be 100%, they are just phasing that last pesky 5% out). All of their packaging and bottles contains at least 75% post-recycled content. This company is dedicated to the green movement and pay attention to every detail “from the soil to the bottle.” To this end, Aveda is now a 100% Wind Powered Company! Eco-minded ladies, you can take comfort that any purchase you make at Aveda is not only good for you it’s even better for the earth!

Our bag of goodies consisted of:

Smooth Infusion Shampoo This plant-based shampoo creates a smooth new surface and softens hair up to 60% while protecting hair from the environment and reducing frizz.

Smooth Infusion Conditioner Work that system! This conditioner is made to work with the matching shampoo and promises all of the same results (smoother, softer hair) as its partner.

Damage Remedy Intensive Restructuring Treatment A once a week deep treatment for hair that helps strengthen hair weakened by chemical processes, heat styling and environmental exposure; phellodendron and barley seal in moisture while castor, jojoba and meadowfoam seed oils smooth hair's surface.

Smooth Infusion Style-Prep Smoother Just a small amount of this treatment to towel-dried, damp hair helps create a smooth surface on hair while defending against humidity for up to 12 hours!

Light Elements Smoothing Fluid Another faithful member in my beauty arsenal! A small dab worked into dry hair gives lasting, weightless shine and texture to all hair types. I have exceptionally fine hair and this never gives my hair a greasy look and doesn’t weigh it down.

As an added bonus we also received sample of Aveda’s personal aroma Pure-fume spirit in the Shampure scent. This lovely little bottle makes me feel as if I am always relaxed, calm and happy in my own Aveda scented world!

If you’re interested in the new Smooth Infusion line, Aveda has a great deal (both on-line and in stores) that is running thought February 14, 2008. The http://www.aveda.com/templates/products/sp.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CATEGORY1478... "> Smooth Infusion Kit contains full sizes of the Shampoo, Conditioner, Style-Prep Smoother and Smoothing Fluid. As a bonus, the kit contains a genius styling brush, (looks like your flat iron and wide-tooth comb mated) which you use while blow-drying your hair. It will help you get that smooth, flat look without the damage from a heated flat iron!

I know I’m not the only Aveda lover out there! I would love to hear about your favorite products from this fabulously green company!

Oh, how I love Aveda! They were my first introduction to high-end hair care. Up until entering their tiny Beverly Center location I was using....drugstore hair care-Gasp! All it took was one use of their Cherry Bark condtioner and I was sold. Well, the SCP location is about 6 times the size of any others I've ever been too. But they all smell the same, the gorgeous Aveda smell, just like their products have. I bounce around with hair care but I always end back with them, tried and true...and fantastic! The Smooth Infusion line we got to try is great. I really liked the shampoo, it's super creamy and made my hair feel silky even when it was wet. The condtioner was not quite enough for my color treated (i.e. absued) hair. My hair just kind of sucked it up immediately and wanted more. But that's where the Damage Remedy came in. Wow-talk about luxury. My hair (and me) loved this! But I think my favorite product was the Style Prep Smoother. This is a silky creme you use before you start styling and drying your hair. It has tapioca in it and that's exactly what it feels like-pudding! It made my hair so smooth-zero frizzies, without weighing it down at all. PLUS, their makeup is really great too. I use their Uruku eye accent in Acacia almost every day. It's a shimmering neutral creme eye shadow that's super easy to apply and is the perfect base. Go Aveda!

Hey Mel9 Yep you are right! =) the Brilliant Damage Remedy is totally the one I was talking about too and it isthe best detangler ever! I have tried the Damage Remedy deep conditioner and it is pretty amazing for bleached hair!!! Followed by the Brilliant Damage Remedy and your bleached hair is as good as gold =)And I have tried both Brilliant and the Smooth Infusion as shampoo and conditioner and although nothing compares to the Brilliant smell (Its amazing) The smooth infusion is still a really fresh smell, and it is incredile in the smoothing department. It's well worth trying especially in the fancy kit with that comb!! You can always swap out the conditioner for your Brilliant just to get that smell! =) I have to look into a "scent journey" at my fav. Aveda shop!!

Ahhhh... I remember Aveda. Back in a time when I had my hair coloured.... It was a more innocent time, before I learned to fear scissor-wielding women. In those good old days of yore, I had an EXCELLENT cut and wonderful, deep colour. All maintained by regular trips to one of the local Aveda stores.... Where I would wax and polish and spa away the evening hours. In the language of Kryssanthe: *Sigh. Tilting head and slumping in chair.*

This sounds like the best weekend ever. I am so jealous. Why do I not live in California??? You ladies all lookbeautiful in the pictures. I went to an Aveda salon the day before my wedding, not on purpose, just because it wasthere. I wanted a "wedding smell" and I remember them actually mixing a lotion for me. They had body lotion thatthey put different oils in to create a scent for me. I loved it! It was such a great experience.

If you could have seen a front shot of my face in the group picture you would have witnessed a face of complete contentment. Like ChiChi said our trip to Aveda was near the end of our day and I was a starting to run out of steam. Being able to sit, have a cup of Aveda’s wonderful tea and listen to the soothing voice of Christina explain the philosophy of the line was so enjoyable. One of the things she told us has stuck in my mind and I hear it almost daily. It’s the importance of use a system whose products work together. I am so guilty of not doing this. I’ll use one thing from this line and another from another line and so on. It was like a light bulb went off, bing. The first time I tried something from Aveda it was the Rosemary Mint Shampoo it made my scalp feel so tingly. The next product was their shampoo for colored hair, I found it really helped prolong my highlights. Their lipsticks are soooo wonderful, very moisturizing and my lips always feel so good whenever I would apply it. I washed my hair this morning with the system we received and the first thing I noticed was the scent, it was like having an aromatherapy treatment while washing my hair, loved it! My hair is so soft and super shinny. Thank you again for your kindness, your soothing voice, your knowledge and your healing touch.

Hi Shelly, It is hard not to call that part of South Coast Plaza, Crystal Court! People still call it that without thinking. Several years ago, Ownership wanted to make a change by simply calling it South Coast Plaza. The purpose was to make the two centers one.. Some refer to it as Bear Street. Some say South Coast Plaza West.. Nevertheless, we all call it, South Coast Plaza now. I love how it's so easy to cross over the bridge too!By the way, next time you here, you have to check out Aveda Richard Michael Salon over at (Crystal Court). It’s awesome!

For years, I have been a loyal Aveda consumer/customer. I can safely say that I use practically everything that they sell! I have had years to obtain them.. Well, put it this way, I have a lot of their awesome line.. I have my personal favorites though, and they are always right where they belong.. waiting for me in my shower.. along with many other things.. (I’ve been asked if it’s hard to turn around in there without knocking something over). Yeah, that borders on pathetic I know. I just have to have my AVEDA.. I just find myself drawn into their store.. I love the comfort Tea too.. I have many a favorites from there, so this might seem like a blanket statement.. I don’t want you to think I’m just saying this without any conviction.. I really love so many things: Recently I tried the Smooth Infusion Shampoo and Smooth Infusion Conditioner as a system. This plant-based shampoo makes your hair fell ulta smooth. It will soften your mop and everyone will notice the dramatic difference. It will help a lot with getting rid of some of that wild frizz too. The same can be said regarding the conditioner, so try it together. I have been using the Damage Remedy Intensive Restructuring Treatment and I really like this line too. It smells wonderful and it works miracles every time you use it. I try to use it at least once a week since I color my hair.. I can tell it helps to strengthen my hair when it’s stressed out! I read that this has some great ingredients too, such as phellodendron and barley. This is to help seal in moisture while castor, jojoba and meadowfoam seed oils smooth hair’s surface.Another one I love and have used often is the Smooth Infusion Style-Prep Smoother you litterally just a couple drops of this in your damp hair. Come it in and blow dry -or let it dry naturally - your will notice the hair is so much smoother and they boast that it will last up to 12 hours! One more item that was focused on that I also love is the Light Elements Smoothing Fluid this is yet another part of the magic if you can bring your self to using the whole system.. this seems to make my hair just glisten in the light - it shows just shine and makes your hair feel wonderful. Be sure to only use a small dab and definitely work it into you palms then into your dry hair. Spread the love into your hair- you will love how it looks! What a real treat it was for us ladies to spend that time there with Christina. I was impressed with her knowledge and her enthusiasm regarding her company.. I admire that in her- or in anybody.. it showed how much she believed in and cared about taking that extra time with us to share her joy in Aveda.. I loved the Pure-fume spirit in the Shampure scent. This is my third bottle of the scent.. I have one at the office home and car... call me an Aveda lover, go ahead!

Oh Aveda! I was hoping we'd get to it soon-there just aren't better haircair products out there. Been using mostly the Brilliant line exclusively for many years. It's my number 1 pick on my profile, too-oh, and I need to change that-my stylist just corrected me and said it's not made specifically for color treated hair, but that ALL Aveda products are safe for colored hair-so that's good news. My regimen is Brilliant shampoo, conditioner, then Damage Remedy (Lilykane is right-DR is the absolute BEST detangler!). I used to use hang straight before blow drying, but didn't like the way it seems to weigh my hair down (I have found Kiehls Heat Protective Silk Straightening Cream to be the best all around product for that-although I'll be trying this new one mentioned above, too!). Used Light Elements for years too, in after drying and before flat ironing - with that also though I found the more I used it, the less affect it had on styling well. So, I'm now having good luck again with Kiehls Silk Groom Serum. Sounds like alot of product for hair if you're low maintenance, which I wish I could be, but it's absolutely necessary to get salon perfect hair if your really thick and frizzy like me. Plus, Aveda is all natural (as Kiehl's is too, I think?), and my stylist has also noted that when I don't use it exclusively I come in with gunky buildup on my hair-when I do use it, no matter how much product-no gunk! I almost tried this new line when it came out and I may now from the great review, I just don't like the smell quite as much as Brilliant - but that comb sounds awesome!! Anyone have any feedback on that?

I LOVE Aveda!!! I swear by the Damage Remedy line! As a bleacher this has kept my long hair alive and looking and feeling healthy! As with all Aveda products it smells amazing and leaves your hair and scalp so clean and happy! The Rosemary Mint Shampoo is a great shampoo to wake you up!! Such a fresh tingle on your scalp to get your brain ready for the day! And I recently tried the Smooth Infusion shampoo and conditioner, and let me tell you...all it claims to do, it does and it does well!! This set left my straight sometimes stringy hair so smooth and full! I agree w/ DD if you use/abuse your hair you may want a stronger conditioner, and Damage Remedy is the way to go!!! Then follow that with the Light Elements Smoothing Fluid! WOW is all I can say. I could go on... the Brilliant line, smells so good I could eat it! And Brilliant Damage Control is the best detangler this side of Texas! Aveda knows what they are doing, and if you want your hair to feel like you love it, Aveda is the perfect Valentine for your hair !

Hey girls! Glad to see so much Aveda love! Greenie, go check out all of the shampoos and conditioners Aveda carries. Like Ddoll said, many years ago, this was our first foray into high-end hair care - many, many bottles later (from almost every brand out there) Aveda is still at the top of my list! If you color your hair, especially if you go Red or Darker Browns/Black, you have to try the Color Maintenance formulas. These shampoos and conditioners deposit color in your hair and keep your color fresher longer. They were an absolute must for me when I would dye my hair auburn/red colors. Fatcat, I have fine, thin hair too and the Smooth Infusion shampoo and conditioner worked really well for me. Or you could go in and get a five minute hair consultation and tell us all what they recommend! Mel9, the scent (of Smooth Infusion items) is new for Aveda. I think it’s their basic smell with cirrus overtones. I was unsure at first, but now I really love it. Oh, I almost forgot about the Tourmaline Charged Eye Crème, one of the best eye creams ever. This miracle worker lightens my dark circles and I swear you can almost feel and see it brightening and tightening the skin around my eyes. I may stray and try other eye creams, but I always go back to this my Tourmaline. If you love the Aveda smell, try the candles. My fave is the Eurphoric Aroma Candle, so perfect!

Oh my gosh, I am so so jealous. I LOVE AVEDA. I could not live with out my clove conditioner to help my dye job last a little longer. Even when the color that my stylist creates is not quiet what I had in mind, I use the conditioner every 2nd or 3rd shampoo and leave it on. It tones down all the brassy yucky looks and helps to cover the God forsaken grey hairs. I could not live without this one. All of their products smell so "clean" too.

When w first walked into Aveda I was blown away by Christina, if she ever tires of beauty she could easily become ahypnotist. She has the most calming, sweet voice and handed us all some of the best Aveda Tea ever before she startedher presentation. I need to go back and buy some of that tea. I only had 4 cups while I was there! YUM! Also I lovedhow she spoke about how they never do a hard sell, you can go in and get a hand or back message (yup, got those also)and close your eyes and just breathe in all of the relaxing vibe at Aveda! The customer service was absolutely unbelievable. The smooth infusion line was great for my thin, stringy hair! I have dry ends and an oily ish scal and my hair reallytook to the shampoo and conditioner. The style prep smoother is another win but if you are a thin haired lady a dimesize is more then plenty. The perfume in spirit has made its way to my cosmetic bag for when I'm on the go and can use a little uplifting pick me up. It was such a tranquil, informative relaxing experience chock full of stellar products. I wish I had a time machine and could be sipping my tea and getting a nice rub! All with fabulous hair of course! Two thumbs up!

ONe more thing-the Damage Remedy that Lilykane and I mentioned is not the same as the one mentioned above - that one sounds like a deep conditioner. The one we're talking about is a spray detangler called Brilliant Damage Control-although if you comb your hair gently in the shower to pull through condtioner, it's not as needed - but i'm too taxed with other shower duties to have enough hot water for all that usually! Also forgot to say that at an Aveda store, they do a cool thing where they take you on a "scent journey" or something like that - where you can sniff all these different scents and tell them what you like and then they'll create you your perfect oil-fun fun fun! Just make sure your feeling "you" that day- I was having a "sweet" day once and ended up walking out of there with basically a rose smelling concoction with is not me on any other day. Oh and I also forgot to give my last post a BIG STAR!!

When I dyed my hair dark brown my stylist suggested the Black Malva shampoo in order to stop fading.  My hair does hold color at all *except for red for some reason*  I was skeptical because I didn't think anything could stop my color from fading.I was wrong!  This shampoo is amazing! My color held for longer then it ever had before.  The shampoo is actually black but foams up to look a little more normal. I definitely recommend it!
