VALENTINE'S LUST! SATURDAYS AT SEPHORA!
Kate2004rock our resident Sephora insider gives you tips this Saturday to make you glow like you've been hit with Cupid's arrow.
Boyfriends are bullsh*t. At least that's what I quip to all of my friends who HAVE a boyfriend when they a) complain about something their boyfriend did or did not do or b) when they blow me off or turn me down to go hang out with their boyfriend who they spend 24/7 with and never spend ANY quality time with me anymore. I'm really not bitter, I promise. I've had boyfriends before - clearly none worth keeping. And I would LIKE to have one, but not so badly that I'll just take anyone. It also just so happens that I've never had one near Valentine's Day so I have never gotten red roses, or jewelry, or stuffed animals (which is OK cause I really don't like stuffed animals very much, anyhow). I really don't see what all the fuss is. I DO understand that it is important to show people that you love them and/or appreciate them. And while, yes you should definitely do that all year long, one special day is great too! Plus, Valentine's Day is RED and that's my favorite color! So Valentine's day is not BS-- only boyfriends are...for now, while I don't have one! At any rate, they is some super-fun Lustworthy things to be had from Sephora this year - every gir's best friend!
First off, I am obsessed with this Sweetheart look from Stila! It is so pretty and fresh, and I definitely think it could continue as a fabulous springtime look as well! The Eyes are done with the Marrakesh Eye Shadow Quad, with the gold shade all over then the inside corners with a frosty pink shadow, then lined the upper and lower lash lines with the burgundy shade and also a gentle contour with the burgundy. Lastly dot the warm pink shade on the lids of the eyes to highlight. Lots of black (or dark brown) mascara--they used Stila Major lash but I think it flakes so I wouldn't use it. To each her own. Lips are stained with the new Cherry Crush Lip and Cheek Stain (The Balm Stainiac would be a good substitute). Then the cheeks are colored with Peony Converitble color on the apples with a dash of Cherry Crush on top. I just think its BEAUTIFUL! That is SO up my alley! I REALLY need that Marrakesh quad.
If you aren't going to get 2 dozen red roses...or at least if you prefer to skip the pollen, go for a sweet rose-influence new perfume! Stella McCartney and Stella Rose Absolue are two great choses. For a more classic take on it, Bulgari's Rose Essentiel is nice. If you're trendy, Valentino has Rock & Rose with a lovely, luxe looking bottle. If you aren't so much into rose but you want a fresh new Floral, Springtime smell check out Wild from Ralph Lauren. I got it for my mom for Christmas and it will make you very excited for summer with the notes of Watermelon, Strawberry, and Cherry Blossom, balanced out with Sandalwood and Musk. And a HOT red bottle.
And if you aren't going to do anything red for Valentine's day other than RED lipstick here are some classic choices to make that pout: NARS Velvet Matte Pencils feel, well, like Velvet and don't bleed. Cruella for a Scarlet Red or Forbidden Red for a more brick red. Both are really elegant. Vicent Longo in Select, or Americana. For those who fear the commitment of a red lipstick have their choice of glosses and tinted lip balms! Tarte's 24.7 Lip Sheer in Friday (SPF 15!) or Urban Decay Ultra Glide in Gash. Stila Lip Glaze in Cranberry or Make-up forever Super Lip Gloss in True Red.

The after shot is pretty and very pink! I,like a lot of the ladies mention, stear clear of pinky eyeshadows until of late. My pack from the 50% off sale at Stila came in and I've worn the Re-orient bamboo shadows all this week. I also picked up a few other things...Kitten eyeshadow, while so pretty, has so much shimmer so I was glad the the bamboo palette works for everyday office. It has a biscuit color (not too much shimmer)that I use all over the lid, a deep brown with sortof reddish tones (kinda worried about the red but it's stunning on)..I use this on the outside & crease and it has a pinky color....really worried about this one but I tried it on the center part of my lid to blend the brown and it's really pretty...makes my eyes pop. I'm gonna have to try Wild by Ralph Lauren. Thank you Kate!
Oh, BTW - Sephora.com has free shipping on orders $25 or more now through the end of the SuperBowl on Sunday. Use Delivery25 at Checkout!

I love those lips on her! What boy could resist those?

Aww, Katie, don't be in a rush! Enjoy the single life. The grass is always greener so enjoy the time to be ableto be young and crazy and silly. The girls that dump their girlfriends for boyfriends are so ridiculous. I meanyour girlfriends are your girlfriends usually much longer then 6 months! Great post as usual!
You know what I love about her look? She still resembles her before picture! I love the natural golden pink shimmer on her eyelids, and the sheer cherry red on the apples of her cheeks and her lips. Just so pretty. Thanks Kate, as always, you dangle something wonderful in front of me like the Marrakesh quad, and I need a sheer red gloss! I never had a boyfriend around Valentine's either, how did I ever end up getting married anyhow? Eventually someone worth your while will stick around, and they will be lucky to have you!
I looooove the cheeks and the lips in this look- the eyes, not so much. They're gorgeous on the woman in the photo, but I have a feeling that with my skintone the pink shadow will make me look like I have, er, pinkeye. And not in the good sense.Eeep! So much to choose from at Sephora. Stick or gloss, stick or gloss... hm...
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Stella by Stella McCartney. Its one of my favorite scents of all time. Even better is that Sephora offers it in a roll-on vial form for only $15, and this baby will last you a very long time! For those red lips I actually love Laura Mercier lip stain in Mulberry. Not too harsh and very flattering.
I guess pink is not for everyone, BUT...Smashbox has a shadow trio in Snapshot, I bought it for a cruise a few yearsago & I loved how I looked in it in my pictures, it really brought the blue out in my eyes. It's pink (not bubble gum-esque), white (brow bone), & a greyish-brown (countour). I went to Sephora last week & couldn't find it & freaked out.Bare Escentauls make Buxom Babes lip glosses with a plumper- it doesn't sting as much as Lip Fusion but I get greatcompliments when I wear these (they should have them at Sephora near the B.E. foundation). They have great sheer reds.I love NARS Dolce Vita. If you're looking for a great whore-red lipstick- Clinique "Angel" is a must try. I thoughtit would be fun to wear to a wedding I went to. Great post Katie.
I agree with you Vexy: Dig the lips and cheeks - the eyes not so much. I’m not a big shimmer person (just a personal preference). And I have this underlying fear of most things pink and ruffle-y, probably stemming from some childhood clothing trauma. Like 38/29, I’m looking for a sheer red gloss - thanks to MMU I’ve gone from 0 to 12 glosses in 4 months flat.
I, not once, had a boyfriend on Valentines Day until I met my husband and still nocelebration! Oh well. Kate, I love all things stain and I've been eyeing that CherryCrush. Funny you mention, though, I just found my The Balm Stainiac and forgot justhow much I love it. I've been using it like crazy the past few days and now I don'tfeel as compelled to purchase the Cherry Crush. Thanks, you saved me some buckaroos!
See now, after I raved about that look I remembered that you could definitely find a post of mine somewhere on this website where I trash pink Eyeshadow. Call me a hypocrite, but this look is just warm and gorgeous. I think the first biggest point of difference is that these pink shades are very warm - cool blue-based pinks really wash me out. Secondly, two of the shades are NOT pink - there's a gold and a burgandy which, I think, are very wearable colors. And meangirl - I have that Mulberry stain too - gorgeous!
Katie
I think that would be such a perfect look for a bride! She looks so fresh and glowing! Not sure I could do all that pink but damn,it's sure pretty and I'd try the quad for sure! Also Frederic Malle "Lipstick Rose" is a gorgeous rose and Julie Hewett lipsticks in all shades of red currently OWN my heart! Love "Pout" red plumping gloss in "Mulberry" as well...It's such a feminine "Helliday" so we should all buy ourselves something girl and red or pink, right???
I also went and got the Cherry Crush lip stain last week and I love it. I've used it almost everyday. Great for cheeks and lips. Love the texture...just as Ddoll describes it. Very pretty color on. I first went hunting for it at Ulta because I didn't realize it was a Sephora exclusive. When they didn't have it, I decided to get a Best of Stila set they were offering. It includes a 1.7 Oz. Stila Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15, Stila Convertible Eye Color (Onyx), Stila Major Lash Mascara, Stila Lip Glaze (Brown Sugar), Stila Eye Shadow Kitten, and Stila Convertible Color Dual Lip and Cheek Cream (Peony). All for only $40. These were full size products too! Of course, I still needed to see the Cherry Crush, so I headed to Sephora and picked that up too. I guess you could say I'm now a true Stila fan. I eyed the Marrakesh quad. It is sooo pretty. I've been lusting for it since that day, so I have a feeling it will be my next Sephora purchase. Thanks Kate for great recommendations.
I hear you Vexy. Pink on my eyes is usually a bad thing too. It's really working on this girl though. I have a pink from Fresh called Plumeria that works. I love Smashbox Deadline too, which is a pinky sort of shade too. But those are the only two that I've met that don't make me look sick. I love red lips!! Cruella is gorgeous, and if you don't own a Nars velvet pencil-fix that situation. They're amazing. Chubby liner/lipstick hybrids, like Katie said-total velvet. For you girls in need of red gloss I have 2 additional reccomendations: Fresh Sugar Shag is bright sheer red with red shimmer. But if it's your first go at reds I'm loving Napoleon Perdis Gloss Patrol in San Paulo. It's a sheer red/pink mix, no shimmer, that smells JUST like strawberry lip gloss from back in the day. Like the kind of lip gloss that came in a big chunky tube and you put on before 7th period math where you saw Chris Jones, oh my god he's so totally cute!!!! Are my lips shiny enough?
Ok, so I just got the Stila Cherry Crush thanks to a bday sephora gift card (love you pamelairene!) and I think it's great. Ok, I'm totally biased cause I love all things Stila but it's really good, honest. It's kind of a cross of a stain and gloss. Not as watery as other stains, it has a creamy consistency. I think because of this it's not as drying as some other stains I have. It doesn't wear as long, but it also doesn't make your lips feel like the desert. And love the smell-like Cherry pie! And a lovely rosy pink. Love it!
You look gorgeous :) I just bought the Marrakesh palette but it just looks so so on me.
